Juicy winner + highlights and dinner

Hey everyone! HAPPY FRIDAY!! Got anything fun going on this weekend?? Our Ugly Christmas sweater party is tomorrow and guess which slackers still haven’t figured out final outfits? I have a hankering we’ll be making stuff an hour before the party- we work best under pressure 😉

Before I get into the highlights from yesterday, let’s see who the winner of the Juice Beauty giveaway is…..

Congrats Jordan!! Please send me your info so I may forward it to the Juice Beauty fairy 😀

Some of the highlights from yesterday:

went to the eye doc (who said my eyes are perfectly healthy and is trying to convince me to get Lasik. I’m horrified and especially scared of the “claw” they put into your eye to keep it open

-had a glorious raw sandwich for lunch

IMG00110-20091210-1307

(Two slices of dehydrated bloomin’ onion bread, raw goat cheddar, spinach, tamaters and olives. Please to excuse the mediocre Crackberry pic – I had left my camera in the car!)

-picked up Bella from the groomer

bell

Little fluff ball!

I LOVE the red bow and holiday kerchief they put on her 😀
bella

So precious!!

A pic of Viesa, too:

viesser

Gorgeous girl 😀

-Took a shot (of heated Ginger gizer!!! mmmm)

ginger

-Ran 5 miles

goofer

Goober!!! Haha.

But check out these splits!!

-Mile 1: 10 minutes (warm up)

-Mile 2: 8:30

-Mile 3: 8:30

-Mile 4: 8:10 (yeahhhhhh)

-Mile 5: 10 minutes (cool down)

I feel like I got my mojo back.. and it feels goooooooood 😀

Next, I broke out some new pizza dough to try

crust

Put it into the mixer:

crust mix

And made two awesome pizzas for people with two very different pizza tastebuds…

The pilot’s:

pilots pizza

(Organic pasta sauce, sausage, a ridiculous amount of cheddar and colby jack cheese, green bell pepper)

Mein:

my pizza

(Organic pasta sauce, zucchini, squash, wilted spinach, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, oregano, basil, rosemary and sea salt)

I had two extra large pieces:

slices

And we both had spinach salad with Goddess dressing:

salad

Amazing 😀

Sometimes a quick and easy meal tastes just as wonderful as one that took a couple of hours 😉 This girl wanted pizza! I was also pleasantly surprised by the crust. It was doughy, thin and crunchy at the edges- just how I like it. I have to say I like wheat, spelt or brown rice crust more (this one was mostly made from tapioca flour)—darker, grainy bread products always taste better to me. 🙂 I do have some tapioca flour I’m excited to experiment with on the baking front, though 😉

After our feast, we went to a host of stores looking for ugly Christmas sweaters. The mall, Targizzle, Wizzle, Kohl’s… The only thing we came home with was a carton of organic milk for the pilot. I though these sweaters would be so much easier to find! We’re still on the prowl….

Well I’m off to do some yoga before meeting Jeni for weights 😀

Have a fabulous Friday <3

Much love,

G$

Something to do: RAWK the vote!! (I couldn’t help myself with that one, haha) Head on over to Best of Raw to vote for some of my favorites in the raw food world! The lovely and knowledgable Gena, a fabulous raw educator and good friend of mine, Kristen, a lady whom I learn so much from and greatly admire, Matthew Kenney, my teacher and favorite raw cheffer, my raw twinnie friends who make some awesome treats and goodies, the gorgeous Sarma, Ani Phyo (I met her!!!!!) whose simple and delicious raw recipes take the intimidation out of this lifestyle, 105degrees (my alma mater and first job working in a raw foods kitchen!) and One Lucky Duck are all nominated. Check it out!!! 😀

Those pizzas look so good! I have never had tapioca flour. I also prefer grainer breads, I think they have so much more flavor.

  2. hemp jogger on December 11, 2009 at 9:24 am

yay for healthy eyes! first, let me say i have the same starbeez mug from the last post…love its extra-largeness, and how ‘green’ it is. i’m lame.
second, i dont know how much they told you about lasik, but dont be afraid of the eye cup! in the clinic i worked at, you get relaxation drugs (demerol and valium), and its literally less than a minute of lasering. all you do is look at a light. the oddest thing i think is the smell, but provided you get some good nurses and doc, they’re very calming and reassuring. just in case youre seriously considering it…

Woohoo! I really wanted to win that one, too! =] Thanks, Ginaaaaa.

  4. Brittany on December 11, 2009 at 9:25 am

I love Bella’s hair cut. Growing up we had a toy poodle named Inky and when she got groomed they would put the bows in her hair and paint her toe nails. So cute, but she hated the bows. Does Bella like them?

    Yum- your pizza looks fabulous!!

    Happy Friday lady.

  5. Katie on December 11, 2009 at 9:34 am

Oooh the pizza looks delish! We had pizza last night too….pepperoni for my hubby and lots of veggies for me!

Good luck finding an ugly sweater!! I hope the search turns up something truly hideous!

  6. Pam on December 11, 2009 at 9:35 am

    I luv Namaste products…so good!

    Enjoy!

  7. *Andrea* on December 11, 2009 at 9:35 am

seriously i love everything you eat!!! i love everything about your blog 🙂

  8. Stasa on December 11, 2009 at 9:40 am

I spotted some ugly Christmas sweaters yesterday and thought of you. Do you have Tuesday Morning stores in your area? I went there to get Christmas cards for work and they had quite a few ugly sweaters.

    Have a good weekend!

  9. chipped nails and all on December 11, 2009 at 9:42 am

girl, you gotta hit up goodwill for that ugly sweater! good luck!

  10. holly on December 11, 2009 at 9:42 am

have you tried salvation army, goodwill, or other charity donation stores? i get all my best duds there. otherwise, if you have an obnoxious christmas decoration, you can be like my sister and sew it on to a sweater or optimal obnoxiousness!

  11. AmyJoGo on December 11, 2009 at 9:43 am

Could you make your own tacky sweater/sweatshirt?? Just go to the dollar store and buy the cheeziest holiday ornaments and decorations, then hot glue them onto an old sweater or sweatshirt. Sounds like making it would be a lot less stressful than finding one to buy.

  12. Jenna on December 11, 2009 at 9:44 am

    pizza looks fabbbb!
    jenna

  13. Leah on December 11, 2009 at 9:46 am

ugly sweaters x 1 million at the thrift stores…my friends and i found about 20 last time we were at goodwill, and they were like 50 cents each!

  14. Lisa on December 11, 2009 at 9:46 am

Hey, I had pizza last night too. But I added goodies to a frozen one; added sundried tomatoes and artichokes. Yep we have TuesdayMorning. Also, try Bealls and Dollar Stores(that sell clothes).(Ask me about the lasik next time I see you. I had it done five years ago and love it.)

  15. BethT on December 11, 2009 at 10:17 am

Oh man,the only place to find ugly sweaters is goodwill or salvation army! They need to be, like, from the early 80s.

  16. VeggieGirl on December 11, 2009 at 10:25 am

Bella & Viesa!! Too cute 🙂

  17. Lily @ Lily's Health Pad on December 11, 2009 at 10:26 am

I want to get Lasik so badly! However, I, too, am horrified at the thought of having a metal contraption pry my eyes open. My co-worker who got it has assured me that once they give me copious amounts of anti-anxiety meds, I will be so loopy that I wont even care. I surely hope so. :-/

  18. Krysta on December 11, 2009 at 10:29 am

I’m not sure how much time you have to get the ugly sweaters, but when I hosted one of these parties a few years ago I found sweaters for me, my boyfriend, and my dog (she was NOT happy to wear it) all on ebay.

  19. Andrea (Off Her Cork) on December 11, 2009 at 10:40 am

Kohl’s should have plenty of ugly sweaters especially if you hit the “older ladies” section. Lots of sequins going on there! (sorry seasoned ladies!). 😀

    • Fitnessista on December 11, 2009 at 11:57 am

i did check at kohls and to my dismay, they had NOTHING!

  20. Paige on December 11, 2009 at 10:43 am

This isn’t exactly food related – but if you are looking for something for your tacky Christmas party – you might hit up the Wal-Mart pajama section. My boyfriend and I picked up some adult holiday footie pajamas for Christmas (we were children on Christmas morning…haha) and I am re-running them for the tacky Christmas party we’re hosting tonight. They are HILARIOUS. And warm!

  21. Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen on December 11, 2009 at 10:45 am

Oh, ugly sweater parties are by far the best! You gotta hit up Salvation Army, Goodwill, or Savers for the best ones (just make sure you wash it first!) Cute puppers 🙂

  22. Amanda Jewell on December 11, 2009 at 10:46 am

    Gina,
Try Marshalls or Loehmann’s (If you have either of those in town) for the ugly sweaters!!

  23. Katie on December 11, 2009 at 10:48 am

Awwwww your doggies are too cute!!! Hope you figure out something to wear for tomorrow, I know you will!! What a fun party that will be!!!! Cant wait to see pics!!! Have a great weekend!!!!!

  24. Katie on December 11, 2009 at 10:48 am

I was also going to say you gotta check out Goodwill or another second-hand store, but looks like lots of ladies beat me too it! I’m hunting for one tomorrow for a party on Sunday, I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

the pictures of all those yummy food are making me so hungry right now. LOL. Maybe you want to seek out a second opinion on the Lasik prescription?

  26. Marla on December 11, 2009 at 11:06 am

Hi – sorry for such a silly question, but Goddess dressing…is that something you buy or do you make it yourself? I always read it on your blog and wanted to try it! Thanks!!!

    • Fitnessista on December 11, 2009 at 11:56 am

      hey marla,
i buy it, but think it would be fairly easy to make. it’s annie’s brand and they have it in most health food stores

  27. Natalie on December 11, 2009 at 11:30 am

Hey! Got a couple questions for ya. Where did u get the pizza dough? And how do you keep motivated when ur motivation starts lagging? I had a baby this summer and still carrying 30 lbs of pregnancy weight. I have been watching what I eat and working out 6 days a week and haven’t lost any weight or inches, now I’m losing motivation since I’m seeing no progress. I lost 30 lbs 2 years ago On my own, but for reason it’s not happening for me now! Help!

  28. SN on December 11, 2009 at 11:37 am

    1. Your veggie pizza looks sooo good! As does the pilot’s version. Yum!
    2. I went to a tacky Christmas sweater party the other night and everyone was saying how hard it was to find a good (bad?) sweater! 2 of my friends ended up going to 6 different stores without success. They finally found some at KMart and they also said they saw a few at thrift/vintage stores. Good luck!

  29. Jaimie on December 11, 2009 at 11:47 am

I had Lasik done in March and it was the best decision I ever made. The surgery is so quick you won’t even remember the claw in your eye. It’s completely pain free and recovery involves a nap. I was able to drive that night! I’d recommend the surgery to anyone!

  30. Yvette on December 11, 2009 at 11:50 am

Good morning! Nice office! How’s the rent? I received an email today that made me think of you and your chef school days. Here’s a link.

  31. Lori on December 11, 2009 at 12:17 pm

I would love to get LASIK. My husband had it done a year and a half ago and is thrilled with the results. I watched the procedure and it was absolutely amazing. And over so quick. Unfortunately, I am not a candidate. 🙁

  32. Suzanne on December 11, 2009 at 12:19 pm

    Hey Gina,

in lieu of a sweater, might I suggest another tacky christmas garmet? last year my friend donned an ankle-legngth DENIM JUMPER with (we’re pretty sure homeade) snowman iron press-ons! it was so hilarious; she looked JUST look a kindergarter teacher!! Also, jingle bell necklacs and light up necklaces, etc. can make or break the whole ensemble, so even if you don’t find the right schweater, you can go to the dollar store or wherever and get some cheap nasty (awesome) jewelery.

  33. Jessica @ Dairy Free Betty on December 11, 2009 at 12:20 pm

We found our tacky sweaters at the thrift store too!! I got 2 for $3!! They were the best of the bunch too!! 🙂

Get Lasik.. my DBF and best friend both had it done and love it!!

  34. Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) on December 11, 2009 at 12:20 pm

That pizza looks delish!! I love how the dogs are constantly in pics of you. They love you! So cute!

I think pizza is one of my favorite foods for sure. Yours looks really good! I much prefer the wheatier, granier stuff too. Good luck on the sweater search. I’d definitely check out the thrift stores. It’s amazing what you can find there. 🙂

  36. Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) on December 11, 2009 at 12:35 pm

    Yum, both pizzas look amazing!

Have a great time at yoga and a fab day!

P.S. I have a Plan a Meal bundle Giveaway on my blog, if you or any of your readers are interested! Thanks!

  38. Jennie {in Wonderland} on December 11, 2009 at 12:54 pm

Hi Gina, not to scare you about LASIK but my brother had it and has had a lot of trouble ever since. He only got it to go out to Afghanistan because the desert air was too dry and grainy for his contacts. But now his eyes are constantly itchy and he can’t see properly. I think he regrets getting it. I thought about it, but then realized that I’d actually never met an eye doctor who had gotten it themselves. So…

Anyway. Hope that wasn’t ‘scary’ but I just thought I should tell you 🙂

    That onion bread looks amazing.

  39. Melissa S. on December 11, 2009 at 1:02 pm

    that pizza looks great!

and great job on the run! nice split for that 8.10 mile!

I had the same problem trying to find ugly sweaters last year. The hubs and I ended up making them. I got a green sweater for me and a red one for him, went to michael’s and picked up a bunch of xmas decor and super glued stuff to it. They were a great hit!!

  41. M on December 11, 2009 at 2:25 pm

When is the party?? I bet it’s too late but I would totally send you mine from last year, it was SO ugly. I found mine at JC Penny- do you have one of those near by? Hope you find something. My sister bought a be-dazzler and made her own out of plain sweatshirts she bought at Target.
I noticed you are trying more new gluten free products like the pizza crust. Are you rolling with eating gluten free or just mixing it up? How’s the tummy bloat been? Take care! xo

    • M on December 11, 2009 at 2:26 pm

Ok just read it again and the party is tomorrow, too late to send mine, dang!!

  42. Stefania on December 11, 2009 at 3:00 pm

Your pizza looks delish and the pilot’s is very bright as well. Yum! I just picked up a couple of products from the Namaste company. I hope they’re as good as your pizza crust. Always on the lookout for healthy versions of foods we love.

  43. Rose on December 11, 2009 at 3:42 pm

Hi Gina! Send me an email so we can swap cookies 🙂 For some reason I can’t find your email address – and I thought for sure that I had it!

  44. Julia on December 11, 2009 at 3:44 pm

I wear contacts everyday because I would be blind without them.
I would consider LASIK but I’m too scurred!!

  45. lizzy on December 11, 2009 at 3:50 pm

ohhh i LOVE the bow the groomer put on Bella!!! she looks beautiful, i bet she is strutting all around the house! my dogs love to show-off after they get groomed! Happy Friday chica!!

  46. Karla on December 11, 2009 at 4:24 pm

    Bella is just too cute!!

I bought an ugly sweater today. I went to the Salvation Army. They have a plethora of ugly holiday sweaters perfect for all occasions (or maybe just ugly sweater parties!)

    Check it out!

  47. Jo on December 11, 2009 at 4:36 pm

How are the dogs getting along these days? Both are so cute.

  48. Shelby on December 11, 2009 at 4:36 pm

I LOOOOOVE Pizza! I keep seeing that crust at the store too, I will be sure to pick some up next time!

  49. Ashley on December 11, 2009 at 4:42 pm

I had PRK surgery (more intensive surgery than LASIK but still vision correction) in September and I am so angry I didn’t get it sooner. I could not be happier. I can see everything!!!!! If you have any questions just email me. I say you do it!!!!

  50. Laura J. on December 11, 2009 at 4:58 pm

Mmmm both those pizzas look so good! I think this post just helped me decided what to make for dinner tonight:) ha Thanks!

I would love to get Lasik but like you I’m totally freaked out by the whole procedure. Blehh.
