March Madness Workout

Hi friends! How’s the day going so far? It’s March Madness time–One of my favorite seasons of the year! I’ve got a March Madness workout for you to help celebrate. 🙂

We’ve been laying low over here as I fight this weird cold thing. I was bummed to get subs for my classes, but I didn’t think they’d want a teacher who sounds like they’re underwater and blowing their nose the entire time. If I’m feeling better tonight, I might do a barre workout, but if not, I’ll be sleeping.

We watched Frozen for the 192837 time, while I read The Book Thief on my Kindle (which is very sad, but I can’t put it down and I have to know what happens),

went through the Better Buzz drive-through (<— lifesaver) before gymnastics,

Better buzz honey latte

and made a quick stop to get supplies for an egg craft I’m putting together. I’ll definitely post the details when it’s finished. I am not crafty at all -I don’t think I’m patient enough to be truly crafty- but I like putting fun little things together.

A little bit of excitement in the day: the best Stitch Fix box I’ve gotten in a long time!

It’s a grey maxi dress, white button-up (which has this super light material), boyfriend jeans, and two printed tanks. Bella approves.

Stitch fix wins

Afternoon snack was a smoothie with almond milk, frozen cherries, hemp seeds, cinnamon, cocoa powder, spinach, and Udo’s oil.

Latest snack obsession:

Paleo bread with avocado, lime juice, sea salt, and sriracha. It’s SO GOOD.

I’m going to make some tea, take a little snooze and try to pack for our trip. Fingers crossed this thing is on the ups by the morning. I’m doing the standard remedies: honey, my favorite (Liv’s least favorite smell haha) apple cider drink (hot water, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, cayenne, and a bit of maple syrup), gargling with salt water, and drinking tons of water and tea. Tonight it’s time to bring out the big guns: roast and eat an entire head of garlic. It’s worth the dragon breath.

March Madness Total Body Workout

Something to do: this March Madness workout! To celebrate one of my favorite times of year, I put together this cardio, strength and core workout. It includes some plyometrics, strength moves, and core work: all critical for a basketball player…. or a rowdy fan who likes to celebrate and jump around. 😉 Please let me know if you give it a try!

This March Madness workout is a mix of strength, cardio and core exercises that are all critical for playing basketball! fitnessista.com

Links to all of the moves:

Bounding burpees

Squat to bicep curl

Lunge and basketball throw

Bent-over row

Push-up

Vertical jumps

Triceps kickback

V-ups

Hope you have a wonderful night <3

Your new snack combo looks delicious! Avocado magically helps to make everything taste better. 🙂
Unrelated to this post, but I was curious what the difference is between Pure Barre and Barre 3. Are they similar? I have taken Barre 3 and really liked it, but was curious if the Pure Barre classes are similar. Thanks for the March Madness workout!

I haven’t heard of roasting and eating an entire head of garlic before. I’ve heard about mixing raw honey with organic cinnamon and downing a bunch of that.

I hope you get better soon. Being sick is NO FUN!

    • masala girl on March 23, 2015 at 8:09 pm

1tbsp good local honey (i prefer raw, but you want to warm the honey, soo…), and fresh grated ginger (squeeze the juice out!! its delish and so good for you.

My go to when I’m sick or trying to avoid catching something is turmeric tea. Raw honey + turmeric + lemon juice (and ginger if I have it). I swear it has magical powers.

        • Fitnessista on March 25, 2015 at 8:47 am

          amazing!

  4. Ashley on March 23, 2015 at 5:28 pm

All your food looks amazing! As do your StichFix outfits–they make me so much more interested in trying out StichFIx.
I hope you feel better and have safe travels tomorrow!

PS- I work at an elementary school and talk about Frozen every day. Every single girl seems to have either Frozen shoes or a Frozen lunchbox. Before working here, I had no idea how obsessed kids were with it! I feel bad for the parents having to watch it so many times! So hands off for your patience!

I love boyfriend jeans but am yet to find any that fit me right. Looks like a bunch of cute clothes though! Avo is the best! Yum!

Hope you feel better. I have some apple cider vinegar and never know what to do with it. I’ll have to try that combo next time I am feeling under the weather.

looks like a great stitch fix!!

  19. Stacy @ Sweating TulipZ on March 24, 2015 at 3:48 am

Aww…hope you feel better Gina! I have had a cold and I can’t remember the last time I had a cold that kicked me in the butt so bad…I was thinking it was a combo of a cold and a bug so I have been resting a lot! Make sure you take some time for yourself and rest up! (I know that is probably practically impossible with a toddler running around!) When I have a cold I feel like all I do is sniffle into the microphone…especially when spinning. When class is over, I am always apologizing like crazy for them having to hear how much snot I have for the past hour! LOL!

I have been on a smoothie kick lately also…I am going to have to try that combo!

I have been hearing a lot about the book thief…definitely on my radar to read!

    Get better soon girl! 🙂

  22. Amanda @ Slimplify Life on March 24, 2015 at 6:03 am

Ugh, UVA totally ruined my bracket. March madness obsessed over here.

My Stitch Fixes lately have been a total bust! Did you send them a note of more specific requests or was this just a great stylist??

    • Fitnessista on March 25, 2015 at 8:47 am

i’ve been way more specific, and have been pinning things i’d like too! my last few fixes were terrible haha but this one was amazing

  23. kristin | W [H] A T C H on March 24, 2015 at 6:15 am

that looks like such a good fix.

  25. Tara | Treble in the Kitchen on March 24, 2015 at 8:01 am

Hope you feel better…at least your stitch fix looks fantastic! And that snack!? Looks wonderful! I love avo with lime and salt, so adding sriracha and that tasty looking bread would only up the flavor combo!

  26. Amy @JustFinishStrong on March 24, 2015 at 9:00 am

I just learned of the avocado/bread/hotsauce snack 2 weeks ago. Its my FAVORITE! I even had it for breakfast the other day.

  27. Jessie R on March 24, 2015 at 10:18 am

Avocado on a slice of sprouted toast, topped with a fried egg with Sriracha on top- YUMM! The Book Thief was amazing, sad yes, but great writing. If you enjoy that you I bet you would like All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, it’s a beautifully written story that takes place before and during World War 2. I highly recommend, it was a GoodReads Choice 2014 winner 🙂

    • Fitnessista on March 25, 2015 at 8:45 am

i almost downloaded it but didn’t! maybe that will be the next one 🙂

  28. Ashleigh on March 24, 2015 at 1:23 pm

Do you use a particular brand of flour for the paleo bread? I have tried several recipes and they have all been flops. Thanks.

    • Fitnessista on March 25, 2015 at 8:43 am

i use the trader joe’s almond meal. it’s dense, but so good

  29. Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona on March 24, 2015 at 1:26 pm

The Book Thief is an amazing book! It’s one of the few books that’s made me cry. So sad but so worth it.

  30. Nikki@will run for pizza on March 24, 2015 at 2:49 pm

Hope your feeling better! I’m doing the same things today – tea with ACV, honey & cinnamon, triple doses of Vit C, zinc tabs, soup, sleep, and diffusing some oils. 🙂 Blech. I made it ALL year without getting sick, and then the week before a race, I.get.sick. This is so dumb.

  31. katelyn on March 24, 2015 at 4:11 pm

Those jeans look reallllly cute! Can you post a link to the brand if possible? Thanks 🙂

    • Fitnessista on March 25, 2015 at 8:38 am

yes, i will post the details!

  32. Ainsley MacDougall on March 26, 2015 at 4:10 pm

    Hi!
I made a smoothie today with the same ingredients, and it tasted….ok. It sure looked different to the one that you pictured. Would it be ok if you told us the amounts of each ingredient, so that I could try it again?

    Thanks soooo much

  33. Bethann on March 30, 2015 at 2:29 pm

That stitch fix box looks like a keeper! I just received one full of maternity goods and was pleasantly surprised that I loved all the items they sent. I tell ya, they are killing it lately!
