Mushroom Man

Heyyyy Smile How are you? Hope you’re having a lovely night! Thanks so much for all of the sight-seeing tips- I can’t wait to check out some San Fran favorites.

It’s BEAUTIFUL here!

I spent Thursday afternoon exploring with Michelle, Kath and Emily– and also met up with Teri and Ashley.

We checked out the Ferry Building, which is home to a unique array of stores and specialty food vendors/restaurants.

Treats and goodies (vegan donuts and gluten-free desserts!)

Fancy mushrooms

This man was happy to pose for a photo whilst mushroom shopping Smile

I was quite impressed to see someone on a regular ol’ Thursday buying fancy mushrooms. This made me very happy Smile

Kath bought some goat gouda, which I happily finished off for her –it was the best I’ve ever tasted- came back to the hotel where I grabbed the Rent the Runway package that was waiting

rtr

(another RTR fail… totally my fault this time, but more on that later. I will look like a grape on Saturday night but I’m gonna roll with it, haha. My dress is PURPLE.. like, really purple)

and then a group of bloggies met up at Milennium for dinner.

It’s always fun dining with food bloggers Smile You definitely don’t feel goofy for whipping out the camera for foodgasmic shots.

We ate incredible vegetarian fare, including olives and veggies:

Chickpea flour-crusted oysters, which tasted remarkably like calamari- crispy, chewy, salty, incredible.

However, you could dredge a shoe in chickpea flour and fry it, and I would eat it Smile

Beets + greens for me:

With a tamale, shared with Kath Smile

The masa was a little bland, but the filling was unbelievable. Kath and I agreed it could have used a little more “oomph”, but everything else was glorious.

I’m off to bed, but in the morning, we’re off to breakfast, manicures, shopping and yoga Smile

Have a happy Friday and I’ll see you soon!!

xoxo,

Gina

Sounds like you’re off to such a fun start in San Fran!! That dinner looks amazing!

I was actually looking into Rent the Runway last night– but now I’m re-considering it! I have a last-minute BIG event to attend here in Los Angeles next week, and I need something cute to wear!! But I don’t want to break the bank, either. Hopefully the “shopping gods” will help me out this weekend!! 😉

Can’t wait to hear more about your trip!

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2010 at 10:15 am

it’s hard because 3 of the 4 dresses i’ve ordered from them look NOTHING in real life like they do on the site :/

      • kate on November 5, 2010 at 11:39 am

Now I am interested in seeing this dress!

I loved San Fran. Looks like a fun trip- enjoy! 🙂

  10. justine on November 5, 2010 at 8:28 am

I was in SF summer of last year. My boyfriend met up with me there and we stayed at the Westin St Francis and had blissful boozy evenings at Scala’s Bistro across the road. Then he had to leave and I went into a rapid decline… 🙁
I saw you found the Ferry Building – excellent move – go to the Farmers’ Market there on Saturday morning; it is total and utter heaven. And then catch the ferry across to Sausalito, scene of my lovelorn post-boyfriend-departure wanderings. Am very jealous you are there!!

    • LisaG on November 5, 2010 at 1:30 pm

My sister lives in Sausalito! Love it.

Your morning sounds like my dream day.

  12. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on November 5, 2010 at 8:29 am

OMG. Words can’t even describe how jealous I am – this looks like SO much fun! I haven’t tried chickpea flour yet but I saw it when I was shopping the other day and I think I’m going to find some recipes for it. Can’t wait to see your dress – even if you look like a grape, it is a food conference after all!!

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2010 at 10:14 am

i figured i’d pair beautifully with the wine, right? haha

  13. Jessica (Fit and Clean) on November 5, 2010 at 8:29 am

San Francisco is so much FUN! Of course, it’s the company that you keep, too 🙂 Don’t forget to visit Ghiradelli! Mmmmm. Chocolate! Can’t wait to see the rest of the pictures! 🙂

  14. Lisa on November 5, 2010 at 8:34 am

Your life looks so fun and so eventful! Jealous!

  15. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on November 5, 2010 at 8:40 am

Too bad about RTR — I can’t wait to see Gina the Grape (and only a week after Halloween, too!) 🙂

I can’t tell what is sprinkled on top of the beets — hazelnuts? Either way it looks delicious!

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2010 at 10:13 am

      yes hazelnuts and balsamic!

  16. Paige @Running Around Normal on November 5, 2010 at 8:40 am

What a fun two days!! Dinner looks amazing – and fancy! Sorry about the RTR fail, but I’m sure you’ll look great regardless!

  17. Leanne @ Simplicitlee on November 5, 2010 at 9:08 am

Manicures, shopping & yoga?? FUN! Have a great time darling! 🙂

  18. Joslyn (missfitbliss) on November 5, 2010 at 9:41 am

I’m with Jessica and Holly – what’s this “looking like a grape” fiasco? I highly doubt it’s possible for you to look bad in a dress lady!

  19. The Pilot's Stache is not long for this world on November 5, 2010 at 10:21 am

It looks amazing, babe. I’m glad you’re having a blastie and it’s good to see old friends and new ones. Enjoy yourself and I’ll talk to you soon. Love you!!!

  20. Lauren on November 5, 2010 at 10:30 am

Hmmm RTR does not seem worth it to me. There are so many beautiful dresses out there that you can own for cheaper or the same price. Plus the whole not getting to try it on thing would stress me out!

I am sure you will look beautiful no matter what though!

  21. Jessica@tastyandtrim on November 5, 2010 at 10:36 am

Breakfast, manicures, shopping and yoga – sounds like you have a fabulous day ahead of you! Have fun!! 🙂

  22. Tab - Just Weighing In on November 5, 2010 at 10:43 am

I thought that food looked familiar – I didn’t realize you were friends with Kath, I’ve been reading KERF for a while now. Have fun in San Francisco! (can’t wait to see your purple dress…)

  23. Christin L. on November 5, 2010 at 10:46 am

    “breakfast, manicures, shopping and yoga”

    I can’t imagine a more perfectly filled day! 😀

  24. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on November 5, 2010 at 10:59 am

Fun stuff! I’m off to SF in a couple weeks to spend Thanksgiving with my parentals – you’re getting me stoked for it!

  25. LizLivingVegan on November 5, 2010 at 11:09 am

That looks like so much fun! You’ve got sunshine, vegan treats, and blogger friends! What more could a girl ask for?? 🙂

  26. Shanna @ Shanna LIke Banana on November 5, 2010 at 11:58 am

What a great day in SF! Love that you checked out the Ferry Bldg!

  27. Allison @ Food For Healing on November 5, 2010 at 12:47 pm

oh how i wish i was there with you all, maybe next year?

  28. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on November 5, 2010 at 1:03 pm

I am bringing 3 dresses…1 really dressy, 1 dressy, and 1 more casual. Seriously, if you’re in a jam and need a dress, you can wear one of mine!

I am getting on my flight in 2 hours. Wish I was there now but had to work.

Ive been to Millennium a few years ago…I had a great time there. Great memories, great food. Sometimes veggie food can need a little more oomph though, I agree!

Ferry Bldg, shopping, sightseeing, glad you’re having a ball! Thanks for the pics….I can see the weather which is helping me decide on some things last minute! 🙂

  29. Felicia (A taste of Health with Balance) on November 5, 2010 at 1:47 pm

as soon as I saw the title i started humming “do you know the mushroom mann…” have fun!!

  30. Caitlin (EatFeats) on November 5, 2010 at 2:07 pm

So glad you got to go to Millennium! The potatoes there are the most fantastic thing I have ever eaten. As is everything else I had while there.

  31. Laura J. on November 5, 2010 at 2:10 pm

breakfast, manicures, shopping and yoga? sounds like the PERFECT way to spend a day with girlfriends 🙂

  32. annie on November 5, 2010 at 2:57 pm

  33. rebecca lustig on November 5, 2010 at 3:16 pm

    i love anything pickled: fact!

    enjoyyy 🙂

  34. Sarah on November 5, 2010 at 5:18 pm

If you really want to go to shopping heaven go to the Westfeild Shopping Center on Market Street! You will not regret it, so many great clothing stores. There is also a small grocery store in there which is kinda random but it is very nice in there with a lot of specialty foods. Now I feel like I need to go to SF for my holiday shopping!

  35. Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) on November 5, 2010 at 7:03 pm

Ha, that must be such a hoot – seeing everyone whip out their cameras to photograph their food! I think it would be so awesome to be at a dinner with other food bloggers so that it wouldn’t be weird at all if you did that!

    Glad you’re having fun!

  36. Lauren @ Fun, Fit and Fabulous! on November 5, 2010 at 7:23 pm

The place you went to dinner looks absolutely amazing! There are not very many vegetarian restaurants here in Texas! I hope you have an amazing time on your trip1

  37. Kristen on November 7, 2010 at 5:32 pm

I like how everyone in the food blogger picture has there camera out.
