Neglecting the snooze button

Good morning! Hope your day is off to a great start <3 Do quite a few of ya have the day off work today? The Pilot does, and I love having him around for an extra day.

I’ve been having a rough time getting in morning workouts lately –which is when I have the most energy- and today, I dragged my booty to the gym instead of hitting the snooze button. It felt so good to workout early, instead of trying to schedule in an afternoon workout, and I was glad to get in an early am sweat.

Here’s what I did:

Legs Day!

-20 minutes elliptical [based on the music- sprinted during the chorus of fast songs, hill climbs on the slower songs]

-Step ups: 3 sets of 15 on each side

-Cable deadlift: 3 sets of 12

-Weighted plie squats w/ pulses: 3 sets of 15, 3 sets of 15 pulses in between

-*This* playground ball squat move: 3 sets of 15, 3 sets of 15 ball squeezes

-Single-leg calf raises: 3 sets of 15 on each side

-Lateral lunges: 3 sets of 12 on each side

-Cool down [10 minutes of walking on the revolving apparatus of death]. Stretch.

Post-workout snack –I munched a Larabar before the gym- was a chai latte with almond milk, cinnamon and honey:

chai

Eggs and toast:

bfast

It was weird to make breakfast and not have any fruit or greens to add to the mix. Definitely overdue for a grocery shop, so I planned out our meals and can pick up some supplies while I’m out and about today.

Off to seize the day! See ya later with a Fashion post update- it’s been a while 😉

xoxo

I love that you plan your meals for the week- I need to do that to know exactly what groceries to buy instead of relying on impulse (and thus wasting a lot of stuff). And Columbus day has sales? wow, have I been living on mars? Thanks for the World Market heads up- I love their stuff (particularly the ethnic food section!)

hmmm, i have a few questions. i know sometimes you take dinner leftovers for lunch. does the pilot do that too? i’ve just found that i really like semi-planning out my week’s meals, but i also really want to make different things almost everyday and since i’m only cooking for myself, it gets a little ridiculous.. but i also don’t want to continue eating the same food for lunch and dinner for multiple days. so i’ve been trying to do 2-3 unique meals a (work)week and only eating leftovers once or twice, but i still feel like this is sort of a waste. i’ve been thinking about freezing half of some of the recipes, but i feel like i wouldn’t go back to it as readily as i’d hope/think. any tips??
on the same note, do you guys really drink enough milk to finish chocolate, almond, and regular all before they go bad?? that’s another thing i’m struggling with now.. finishing milk before i have to throw out the sour end of it.

    • Fitnessista on October 10, 2011 at 12:55 pm

the good news is that the pilot usually eats enough for 2-3 people, so we have very few leftovers. either he’ll take them to work for lunch -like if we grill chicken, he’ll make a chicken sandwich- or i’ll repurpose them the next day for my lunch (usually turn it into an omelet or egg scramble)
as far as freezing goes, i think that’s a great idea. or make meals that you can change the leftovers. a lot of things work well in egg scrambles, as sandwiches, tacos, burritos, find a new way to eat it and it won’t feel as redundant.
and yes, we drink a lot of milk over here. i go through a big thing of almond milk each week, the pilot snacks on cereal and milk, and he takes the individual packs of chocolate milk with his lunch, which don’t go bad for a long time.

I think it’s awesome that you plan your meals for the week – I might start trying that myself…maybe save some money on groceries? 🙂 Love getting in an early mornign sweat session too – it’s definitely when I have the most energy, too, rather than evenings. In the evenings I like to hang out at home with my boyfriend, make dinner, have fun together…your legs session looked wicked! Have a lovely day! <3 xyx

I am for sure in love with a.m workouts. I feel like it so perfectly sets the tone for the rest of the day. And you are right, it is awesome not to have to try to plan it into your day, especially if you tend to have days that do not always go as planned! It is also awesome because then your evenings are free for whatever comes up!

SO excited for the fashion post!! Can’t wait to work out at the gym tonight! I haven’t busted my booty in the gym in a while!

  22. Amanda on October 10, 2011 at 4:51 pm

I feel you on the morning workout thing, I always do it on weekdays so it’s become a habit. But the initial wake up call certainly doesn’t get easier – I felt like DEATH this morning. But what gets me up and putting on my shoes is how GREAT it feels afterwards, and I love feeling that delicious ‘afterburn’ all day!

  23. Jacqueline on October 10, 2011 at 8:30 pm

How do you make your Chai lattes?

  24. Elizabeth @ reads recipes runs on October 10, 2011 at 9:11 pm

I used to be SO good about not snoozing because I had a crappy alarm that would only snooze 2 times and then stop. Found that one out the hard way haha. My husband is SUCH a snoozer! He is a bad influence on me haha.
