NEW 5-minute Ab Workout

Lots of the usual suspects….

Standard breakfast:

Bfast

Work clothes ready to go,

and getting things together for the morning.

Snacks

I leave tomorrow for my race -plus a special short trip that’s been included on top of that, more details to come- and I haven’t done anything to get ready. In standard Gina fashion, I’ll be throwing clothes into a suitcase at 10pm tonight hoping that somehow I’ll be able to make outfits out of them. The good news is that I’m only taking one “real” outfit- everything else is workout clothes. Matching is optional 😉

Since it’s almost the weekend, here’s an ab burner! (Like how I made it sound like a gift? Haha)

Ab burner

We all have 5 minutes to spare. Add in this little blitz before bed, as a break from work, or in addition to today’s workout-  feel free to repeat for extra credit 😉

(I provided some modifications along the way, but as always, check with a doc before making any fitness changes. Honor your body and your injuries)

If you try it, please leave a comment to let me know how it goes! <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: Are you good at packing for trips? It’s funny because sometimes I’m super organized, and other times I’m a last-minute slacker. Usually if I make it for the flight on time, I consider it a win, and the funny thing is that one of my most well-planned trips was the flight I did alone with Liv. I’m still not quite sure how that happened. Anyone else have upcoming trips planned? I’m dying to take Liv to Disneyland, but am trying to wait until she’ll enjoy it more.

Something to think:

Good luck with packing and making it to your plane on time! I typically “mentally pack” before I “physically pack” That way when I actually pack it doesn’t take that long and my clothes usually match. 🙂

I also have a go-to list of stuff I will always nee – toothbrush, contact case, etc. so I never forget something like that.

    Safe travels!

I’m leaving for Australia in a couple of months and I am so unsure how the packing will go. Probably 2 pants and 2 tops, 1 pair of shoes. Gonna be a cool experience to just work with the basics, I guess.

YAY! that was perfect! added it to my cardio and I feel great!

  4. Stellina @ M Yogurt Addiction on September 20, 2012 at 11:55 am

I usually pack pretty light. I always tell myself if I forget something I can probably buy it where ever I am!

Love the quote (and I love that you often include them in your posts)! I just repined it. Thanks!

  6. Sarabell on September 20, 2012 at 12:52 pm

I typically make my packing list about a month in advance so I can add to it and take away from it the whole time, then I pack the day before I leave.

We LOVE Disneyworld and have been many times, but I would strongly suggest you try to wait until Olivia is at least 5. It’s a very expensive trip. At that age hopefully she will be old enough to remember some of it (7 or 8 would be even more optimum), she will be old enough to know who the princesses are & will get a kick out of meeting them & the other characters, & hopefully she will be old enough that you won’t need a stroller (the crowds are pretty brutal, not to mention having to drag a stroller onto the buses), & it will be a lot more convenient if you’re not trying to fit in an afternoon nap anymore. Just some things to think about… I know sometimes it’s hard to wait, but I think you’ll have a lot more enjoyable experience (& it will be more worth the $$) if you do.

I am a TERRIBLE packer– I always pack too much and at the last minute. This week I had to pack for a 2 month stay in California. Of course I didn’t start packing until the day before and then my luggage was too heavy to fit airline rules. Some day I will learn how to pack less and in an more organized fashion… but just not now

  9. mary on September 20, 2012 at 1:05 pm

We’ll be at Disneyland in 3 weeks!! As you know, it’s an easy drive and surrounded by cheap hotels, so it’s a cheap vacation from AZ. I wouldn’t hesitate to take Liv at age 2 or whenever you feel like it. We go almost annually. My daughter has such fond memories of it all, since we probably started her at age 3 or 4. I also couldn’t wait to take her when she was a baby.

I’m surprised you don’t make a list the day before of what you want to pack and be all super organized like you are with meals and workouts!

    • Jennifer on September 20, 2012 at 3:06 pm

I agree. I have taken my kids every year starting at about 9 months. You can take them on just about every ride. They are free to get into the park until like 3. My oldest who is almost 5 remembers every trip (except the 9 month one, but we had fun) and can tell you, in detail, about anything.

      • Fitnessista on September 20, 2012 at 4:51 pm

that makes me very excited… i really, really want to go!

    • Fitnessista on September 20, 2012 at 4:55 pm

you’re right, it’s an inexpensive trip, especially with military tickets for tom and myself. we might have to do it 🙂
sometimes i’m like that, other times when things are crazy (like right now w tom’s sprained ankle), i’m the opposite

  10. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on September 20, 2012 at 1:18 pm

Love that quote! Have a safe trip! 🙂

  11. Katie on September 20, 2012 at 1:23 pm

I am a HORRIBLE packer! I start with a nice organized list with outfits in mind and then without fail I freak and bring 90% of my closet because I’m afraid of not have options; but without fail I will forget an essential, like say underware!

    Have fun on your trip!

    • Fitnessista on September 20, 2012 at 4:53 pm

haha that’s usually what i do, too 😉

  12. Leslie W on September 20, 2012 at 1:26 pm

I am about to ride on a plane next spring to Disney. My first plane trip ever at 35 years old! I’m already a little freaked out. Father-in-law wants to take our kids to Disney so, just as a default, I get to go with the hubster. 😉 I don’t even know how plane rides work with luggage and packing for myself and two kids! AH!

I’ve only been doing 100 bicycle crunches a day because that’s all I know how to do so I’m going to try some of your ab burner to spice it up. And, can I add… even though I’m totally married and totally straight, I’m very jealous of your tooshy! Losing 80lb didn’t make my flat tooshy go away for sure. :/ Need to work on that! I hope that’s not too creepy. lol

    • Fitnessista on September 20, 2012 at 4:53 pm

don’t worry about it- you’ll be fine! have so much fun!
hahah thank you for the compliment 😉

packing is one of my traits I am most proud of. Let me preface this with, I don’t have children, and the process is a lot easier for a single gal…

About a week before I leave, I lay out everything (clothes, shoes, accessories) I might possibly want to bring on the guest bed and have a list of must haves (phone charger, ipad w.charger, extra socks, undies, bra) to put in at the last minute. Over the week, I subtract or add things, and then the night before (since I usually fly at 7am) I put everything in. I also pack lightly, bringing jeans since they can be paired with anything, and 1-2 plain cardis with lots of bright printed shirts. I also have a separate travel bag with toiletries that is always packed, I just have to check if anything needs re-filling.

Lay magazines, books, e-reader, snacks and chargers on top of your packed suitcase, and it`s all easy to pop into your purse in the morning. I always have socks and a big scarf in purse too, planes are cold.

I`m flying to Calgary to visit my sister in a month and want to pack already, I`m so excited.

  15. Angie on September 20, 2012 at 2:06 pm

Ah that something to think about is the story of my life right now!

  16. Heather on September 20, 2012 at 2:13 pm

We are headed to Disney World with our little girl, she’ll be 9 months when we are there…actually almost 10. Sigh. At the end October and we can’t wait! It’ll be all about the pictures and memories for us but I think she’ll love looking back on it one day 🙂

  17. Averie @ Averie Cooks on September 20, 2012 at 2:19 pm

I have trips coming up but can pack in my sleep for them so it will be pretty last minute.

Of all the nut butters Ive bought in my life, I don’t know why Ive never bought that TJs one. Headed there shortly and I think I’ll grab it!

  18. Socal Rachel on September 20, 2012 at 2:20 pm

Just did the Ab burner, it was a burner! I try to get in a little movement while working at sitting at my desk all day. Thanks for posting it.

      great job!

  21. Amanda on September 20, 2012 at 3:30 pm

How is that coconut water? I know you said its the only one you like, but I’ve heard they aren’t the tastiest treat.

I hate packing for trips too! Even if I plan everything out really well, I’m still over packed or forgot something (or both!)

    • Fitnessista on September 20, 2012 at 3:42 pm

i love most coconut waters (it’s an acquired taste for sure), but the chocolate tastes like cocoa puffs to me 🙂

  22. Azka on September 20, 2012 at 4:19 pm

Thanks for this, Gina! It really did target all of my core like you’d promised 🙂 Especially liked the circular crunches.
I always over pack too, but I am pretty organized. I make a list of everything I need a couple days ahead of time. I have traveled a lot with my ten month old baby and now have a permanent list of things for the baby that I always need to pack so I can just skip the list making and start collecting all the items. It’s always easy to get by if you’re missing an item for yourself but for a baby any small item that’s missing (like a favorite paci in our case) can spell disaster 🙂 Of course, I learned this the hard way – bringing the monitor but not the camera for the baby monitor, missing favorite binkies, and forgetting to bring smell-proof diaper disposal bags while being a houseguest. Oops!

    • Fitnessista on September 20, 2012 at 4:49 pm

i love the circular crunches too- so happy you liked it!
that’s a great idea- i’ll make a master packing list for the next time i travel with liv

  23. Rebecca on September 20, 2012 at 4:34 pm

The ab burner looks painful in the best way possible! I meant to do it with you, but realized that lying in bed with my Ben & Jerry’s was too blissful to disrupt so I watched the video and called it good. Same as actually doing it, right 😉

    • Fitnessista on September 20, 2012 at 4:48 pm

      osmosis. it works. haha

  24. Lacey @ FamilyFitnessandFoodery on September 20, 2012 at 4:35 pm

Love this Ab Burner! I just posted one the other day and I think I will be adding a couple of these moves in with it after my run today! You always give me great ideas to change up or add to my workouts. Thanks!

hi Gina 🙂 I have followed your blog for a couple years now and have been interested in actually starting up my own blog, but lack certain knowledge in how to get started. I figured you would be the person to ask in terms of advice for new bloggers. I am 24 years old and have lost a significant amount of weight over the years and would love to inspire and share my knowledge with the blog world, but not exactly sure how to get started. I would greatly appreciate any advice you have. 🙂 Thanks for being an inspiration to many.

I’m leaving tomorrow night for a trip and haven’t even thought about packing! I’m still catching up on laundry from the week 🙂 But sometimes I’m super organized and plan ahead my outfits and make a list! Maybe you’ve inspired me to do that tonight? 🙂 Also this ab burner looks awesome! I love how it focuses a lot on the lower abs, my least favorite spot!

  28. Maggie on September 20, 2012 at 6:35 pm

I LOVED that ab burner! Definitely felt it 🙂 Good luck this weekend! Remember the key to a good race is to make sure you are having fun!

  29. CourtStar @ StarSystemz on September 20, 2012 at 6:50 pm

No trips planned but crossing my fingers for New York in December. I am an awesome packer! My trick is to save the mini hotel bottles from previous trips and use them for my beauty supplies. Then I visit Sephora and get samples of all my makeup. All of my beauty products fit into one little case. When I travel I LOVE to shop so I bank on that most of the time but of course bring some clothes. Have fun on your special trip 🙂 Love and Shine CourtStar

  30. Simone on September 20, 2012 at 6:51 pm

I am a list lover so I love packing, I make a list every time I go anywhere (even just for 1 night), the feeling of checking off the list is so satisfying 🙂
    have a good trip!

I think this is the first time I’ve ever commented I’m terrible I know I’m a lurker but I love your blog! you inspire me to get healthy and start thinking smarter about food. I’m starting to exercise, slowly but surely hoping to do more. But I’ve done much better at eating whole foods thanks to you!
Anyway I had two totally random questions that I’ve wondered for a long time.
What kind of tortillas do you use because they look amazing! every time I see them I want to eat my screen.
Also what kind of salsa is on your eggs? I haven’t ever found store salsa that I’ve enjoyed and I’m too scared to try making my own haha so I was wondering what you use and also what you recommend
Thanks so much! Your doing a great job with everything!

    • Fitnessista on September 21, 2012 at 10:44 pm

      thank you so much regina!
the tortillas are brown rice from trader joes and so is the salsa: salsa especial (by the hummus)

Your ab burner was rockin’! I did it at the end of my cardio workout, so the sweat just kept flowing (haha, eww). I need to pick it up again with my core training because at the end, when you said, Feel free to repeat 2 or 3 more times, I was like… Ummm, no! No more!! Thanks for the great workout, Gina!
