Noodles, chicken and snow

I absolutely loved reading all of your excuses and excuse busters, and am so happy you like the new bfast cookie recipe! Let me know if any of you give it a try 🙂

Holy crazy noodle arms.

Workout timing was lovely last night: Liv woke up from her second nap as the Pilot got home from work, we all enjoyed dinner together, and I went to the gym while the Pilot took Livi upstairs for her bath and bedtime rituals.

I busted my “it’s late and cold” excuse, actually pushed myself (you never know what will happen with night workouts) and did Workout 3 + Zuzka cardio (11 min) for HIIT. Wow. My arms are going to be sore, which is hard to do these days since I carry 20+ lbs around so often.

Dinner was pretty legendary:

Chicken 1 of 1 5

When I saw Tina’s recipe for chicken drumsticks, I thought it would be fun to try something similar.

I melted 3 1/2 T of butter, mixed it with two cloves of minced garlic, salt, pepper, 1 T maple syrup, 1 t Dijon, put into a baggie with 6 drumsticks in the fridge.

Chicken 1 of 1 6

I’m all about pre-marinating things, but had a brilliant moment when I remembered about 20 minutes after putting the chicken in the fridge that butter solidifies when it’s cold again. Derp. It still made the prep much easier- all I had to do was put the sweet potatoes and chicken in the oven, steam and sauté some green beans (with garlic-infused olive oil, balsamic, garlic, thyme, salt and pepper). As delicious as it was, I should have made at least double the amount I did… at least I know for next time.

Some more news from the day:

Tucson heard me poking fun at its winter, so it decided to snow yesterday. SNOW.

Weather

Caro spent the afternoon on the couch. The usual.

Caro 1 of 1 2

Bella spent the afternoon letting Liv pet her in between wishing for chicken. Also the usual.

The best moment of the day: watching the Pilot play tea party with Liv, while still wearing his flight suit. I didn’t get any pics, but I have enough in my memory to last a long time.

This morning, we’re off to watch some live music at a coffee shop so Liv can dance to the band, then meeting up with some friends.

xoxo

I’m all about marinades – I just need to get better about planning ahead and finding good ones. Ha on the snow – I’ll take the rest of your forecast though, that’s amazing!!!

I always forget to marinade, so I just throw everything in the bag together and hope for the best haha!

I never think of sauces as marinades! I know the meat would probably taste so much better if I let it kick it with the flavors for a few hours, but I always just slather on the sauce, and stick it in the oven! (or pan :))
    Have fun this morning!

Every time you post about fighting your excuses and getting to the gym at night… I feel even lazier, haha 🙂 Leaves me no excuse not to get my butt to the gym during the day! I’m sure you’ve written one already, but I would love to read a whole post on motivating yourself to get in a workout, against all odds! 🙂

Yum, definitely going to try this chicken drumstick dish. Marinating makes everything better!!

  6. Lucie on February 12, 2013 at 10:31 am

I need to marinate more! I always forget about how tasteful the stuff gets when marinated.
Haha, well we have snow since weeks and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop. Very frustrating. So wintershape up is real and I did HIIT in the park – in the snow!!!

Oh my, I can’t believe it snowed in Tucson! I live in Canada, and we haven’t even gotten any snow this Winter! Kind of sad.
I never would have thought to make a marinade from a sauce, but that’s kind of a brilliant idea!

Oh my goodness- that’s so cute that they played tea party together.

My boyfriend’s sister has 2 kids, and I find them so much fun to be around after the 1 year old stage, as they actually play! I always laugh at how their minds work- especially when playing hide and go seek with the 4 year old, who still believes that if she can’t see you, you can’t see her- and that therefore, a hiding spot under a blanket in the middle of the floor is a great spot!

No way it snowed in tuscon! That’s crazy. The weather has been so random lately. Even here in Boston we’ve had some warmer than usual weather and then got hit with Nemo and 2 feet of snow! What is going on?!

Oh man if you love pre-marinating poultry and seafood let me offer you a suggestion-Annie’s Naturals Organic Shiitake Sesame Dressing. It is AMAZING on everything especially chicken and salmon. I also like Annie’s Balsamic and just marinated some veggies in it and then grilled them. Awesome!

Marinades are a total lifesaver! It turns a regular dish into something scrumptious!

tea party in a flight suit, that is something you see on a hallmark card or something like that. Sounds too adorable.
Sometimes you just gotta enjoy the moment and absorb it, rather than running for the camera.

I always use the “it’s too late” excuse! I hate working out in the dark!

I haven’t tried the Bfast recipe yet but I’m planning to this weekend when I have more time in the mornings. I’m kind of jealous it’s snowing! It never snows in San Francisco. It seems rather obnoxious but it would be fun for a day 🙂

    Hey Girl!
Are you following Zuzka’s calendar of ZCUT workouts or just doing them as fits your schedule? Just curious because I’m still thinking of ordering the DVDs. Thanks!

I have a cookbook by bbq expert Steven Raichlen and he says marinating anything longer than 15 minutes is unnecessary.

Isn’t there a toddler show on Disney Jr. with guys in blue jumpsuits? Imagination Movers or something? Yep, here it is-

That chicken does look good. Today I took the lazy marinade route – just put the turkey and sauce in the crockpot to cook all afternoon.

Caroline is such a cutie! I’m so glad you got to enjoy watching the Pilot play with Livi. That must have been a really special moment. <3

Love your pink keyboard! Hopefully your gym is close to home- I couldn’t go to the gym any later than 8 I reckon!

i made herbed drumsticks on sunday. i’m all about marinating too! but these i just seared in butter, then seasoned (with every herb i had on hand) as they cooked in chicken broth on low. so easy and still came out great without marinating 🙂
