Not so photogenic

Since you’re all sharing your sweaty #wintershapeup pics with me, here’s one from last night:

In the gym

I was supposed to cover a Zumba class, but word on the street broke out that there was a sub and NO ONE came! It’s funny because when I used to solely take classes, I had my teacher loyalty. When there was a sub, there was no way I was going. Now that I’m a sub, I want to salsa around the gym saying, “Give me a chaaaance!” <– great strategy to get people into class haha.

Since Zumba was empty, I ventured into the main gym to get in some strength and cardio. I had a couple of tweaks to make to the Week 3 workout, and I think they did the trick. It’s fun to test out all of the workouts before posting them! It helps to ensure there’s a nice flow and that the booty-kicking level is on par.

A huge reason why I stopped blogging most of my normal eats: they’re horribly unattractive.

Ex. A: a turkey burger burrito. I cut the turkey burger in half, placed it on a tortilla, added lettuce, ketchup and mustard, then rolled it up. It was DELICIOUS, but not pretty.

Bella always thinks turkey burgers are pretty:

This morning’s b-fast: a little more photogenic.

I’ve recently fallen back in love with chia pudding. It makes a wonderful and hydrating snack; Livi likes it, too.

Last night, I added the following to a mason jar:

-1/3 cup coconut milk (from a can. Used the rest for homemade coffee creamer)

-2 tablespoons chia seeds

-1/4 cup almond milk

Chia 1 of 1

This morning, I added banana slices, strawberries an blueberries, along with a little cinnamon and drizzle of honey. So good!

This is weird but I don’t like mixing savory and sweet breakfasts, so when Livi wakes up I’ll have an egg scramble with her.

Not sure what we’re up to today, but be sure to check out the Fashion page for a new post this afternoon!

Have a lovely day <3

xoxo

Do you prefer sweet or savory breakfasts?

Let’s talk about teacher loyalty! If there’s a sub, do you still go, or no way?

If I had dessert (or cocktails!) the night before, I usually prefer a savory breakfast. If I finished the previous night with a savory dinner, I usually prefer a sweeter breakfast! As for teacher loyalty…I’ve definitely skipped out on subs before. :-/

that’s a good point! usually if i have something sweet at night, i definitely want savory in the morning

I’m in Tucson and would have loved to come to your class! What gym are you at now? I need more zumba in my life. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 28, 2014 at 4:23 pm

send me an email and i’ll send you the info!

I just can’t do chia pudding – the texture really freaks me out! I love chias on top of my yogurt or in my granola though! I don’t do Zumba anymore, but when I did I remember having a sub who was horrible! I loved my instructor so much and she was such a high energy instructor so to get someone super low energy and all low key routines with quiet music was awful!

    • Fitnessista on January 28, 2014 at 4:23 pm

that’s happened to me before, too! no fun

  4. Rhiannon on January 28, 2014 at 3:25 pm

Oh no! I’m sorry no one showed up! I do have some teacher loyalty issues, but I think I would at least give a sub one chance. Who knows, maybe I’d like their style too. I’d hate to miss an opportunity to learn new moves =)

    • Fitnessista on January 28, 2014 at 4:23 pm

same, especially with zumba! but i totally understand it… sometimes zumba instructors are terrible haha

  5. Julie on January 28, 2014 at 3:34 pm

I have such teacher loyalty! I still haven’t found a Zumba teacher I really like after 3 years of being in California. :/

I usually like sweet breakfasts… until I discovered egg burritos then it was all about savory!

    • Fitnessista on January 28, 2014 at 4:22 pm

wahhhh! if you’re close to SD, i’ll probably be teaching there 😉
egg burritos rock my world. i have one almost every day

  6. Jen on January 28, 2014 at 3:37 pm

if i can only have it one way, savory all the way! but i like eating with a friend and making (or buying) two things, one sweet and one savory, so we can both have a little of each. 🙂

i do have a lot of instructor loyalty, but when they need a sub, they usually try hard to get someone good, so i try to trust that, and i’ll usually go anyway. sometimes, the sub is actually better than the regular instructor, and then i feel like a horrible person for thinking such things!

    • Fitnessista on January 28, 2014 at 4:21 pm

      haha! it’s so true, though!

  7. Lulu on January 28, 2014 at 4:09 pm

I prefer sweet, because I have a huge sweet tooth 🙂 so I have a huge platter of fruit and some nuts or avocado, a drizzle of molasses and cinnamon.

    • Fitnessista on January 28, 2014 at 4:21 pm

      that sounds lovely!!

  8. Lindsay on January 28, 2014 at 4:10 pm

OMG! I just finished the first workout and I’m officially dead. Admittedly, I haven’t kept with my workout routine since my wedding (almost eight weeks ago) and that was definitely an eye-opener. Hopefully I’ll be fully back on track by February 23!

    • Fitnessista on January 28, 2014 at 4:21 pm

so awesome! glad you had a great workout 🙂
      congrats on your wedding, too!

I DO have teacher loyalty, but don’t want her to find out I didn’t go because there was a sub. She is the most awesome instructor and I’m sure that instructors hate subbing for her because she DOES have such loyalty from those that take her class. I’ll totally give a sub a chance, I’ve always thought it must be sooo hard to be a sub, especially for zumba.

I would have TOTALLY taken your class last night if I was in Tuscon instead of stuck up here in the frozen tundra! I’m so jeally of your green plants outside that the hummingbirds are on!

    • Kelly on January 28, 2014 at 4:49 pm

Oh and I love sweet breakfasts (because it goes so well with my coffee) but am trying to break that to be able to eat savory as well. This will help me have more options for protein at breakfast. I made your breakfast cookies and they are great. Three more left and I’ll have to make another batch. It was my 1st time cooking with protein powder! Thanks!

I am all about teacher loyalty! Even though we have Les Mills at our gym, the teacher still matters tremendously!! If I know my regular teacher won’t be there I always have to ask who the sub is. If it is someone I have taken class from before, I will use that to make my decision! If it’s a new person I will usually try their class at least once, especially if it is short notice and I planned to workout! 🙂 So sad no one came though!!!!

  11. Leah O on January 28, 2014 at 5:09 pm

I pretty much always have a savory breakfast (eggs on gf toast lol). Its really hard for me to switch up what I eat when I find something I love so if I eat something sweet its usually oatmeal with some maple syrup on it or vanilla yogurt with granola (after my eggs).

  12. Emily on January 28, 2014 at 5:30 pm

I am super guilty of teacher loyalty! I should have more faith in my gym to staff someone just as awesome!

  13. Heidi on January 28, 2014 at 5:38 pm

If I am in Tuscon, I would have come! 😀 If your next move after San Diego is to Colorado Springs, I definitely wouldn’t mind. 😉

  14. Lisa @ runnermamablogger on January 28, 2014 at 5:52 pm

So funny! My sister and I take kickboxing and when we hear there is a sub we don’t like to go or we at least find out who is subbing to make a decision on whether or not we want to go. Love all your recipes, please keep them coming. Your breakfast looked yummy!

  15. Britt on January 28, 2014 at 5:55 pm

I am having a hard time finding a Zumba class that I love now that my gym had turnovers in staff but if my old favorite teacher wasn’t teaching that day, there was NO WAY IN HELL I was going to take a class from a sub! I like knowing the dances that I am going to do and I like the was that the teacher taught. I wasn’t going to take my chances with a different teacher!

  16. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on January 28, 2014 at 5:56 pm

I really should do a better job at prepping breakfast the night before. I ALWAYS forget until it’s too late and i’m too tired! 🙂

  17. Sarahf on January 28, 2014 at 8:08 pm

We had a sub the other day and I felt so bad for him, so many people were complaining that he wasn’t the regular teacher! I decided then and there that I will always give a sub a chance! I’m big on eggs for breakfast, but have oatmeal with honey and apple a few days a week.

  18. Haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine on January 28, 2014 at 8:38 pm

Savory breakfasts! Unless it is freezing outside. The colder it is, the more I want sweet breakfasts. (ahem: donuts!) But I usually have a breakfast burrito or even chicken soup first thing in the morning!

  19. Meg @ A Dash of Meg on January 28, 2014 at 8:54 pm

i was having chia puddings pretty much every morning! i need to start my chia again 🙂

  20. Dory on January 28, 2014 at 9:20 pm

I need to try chia pudding, looks delicious! I do have some yoga teachers that I just love and go to their classes always. But, I think subs are a great chance to try a class with someone new!

  21. Michele on January 28, 2014 at 9:25 pm

Aww, that is sad that no one showed up 🙁 My gym posts a schedule on the web with names of subs. Good for me because I know whether to show up or not 😉

I am a “sweet” breakie kind of girl, I love oats, oat and fruit parfaits, pancakes etc.

You have been looking so amazing lately, Gina! I’m very interested in lifting heavier and have been playing around with New Rules of Lifting for Women now that I’m no longer working with a personal trainer. Between weights three days a week, a brief interval session one or two of those days, walks with my dogs, and standing for 8.5 hours straight at work I burn quite the number of calories. Do you have any advice for people who have trouble eating enough? I know a lot of people have the opposite problem, but I know I should be eating more daily and I think it’s why I can’t lose the fat that I’ve gained since moving back in July. I just don’t have the appetite to be eating more!
Thanks, and good luck with your own move!

    • Fitnessista on January 30, 2014 at 10:13 am

thank you so much! a smoothie is an easy way to get in extra nutrition without having to chew it. make a giant smoothie and sip on it throughout the day. hopefully that helps a little!!
      xo
