Oh, Fries Glow

Hi guys 😀 How’s your Monday treating ya? Hope it’s been bueno <3

Thanks SO much for all of the moving tips!

Here’s a round-up of what most of you said:

DONATE and trash stuff that you don’t use anymore (check)

-Hit up liquor stores for boxes – genius idea; we’ve also hit up Wal-Mart at 11pm because it’s when they re-stock and leave boxes in the aisles for whomever wants them

Label everything!

Whatever can go in a box, put into a box

-Put the things you’ll need right away in an accessible and well-labeled place

We haven’t officially started packing yet –still organizing- but I know these tips will definitely come in handy 🙂

Since bfast was super filling today, I wanted something light and fresh for lunch.

Enter THESE beauties:

raw wraps

Savory lettuce wraps!

Chopped organic mushrooms, carrots and onion, dressed with Nama shoyu, olive oil, nutritional yeast, savory, and garlic gold; Served on some romaine leaves that had been topped with sauerkraut

This is what some raw restaurants would call “a burger.” And I would laugh.

I’d still eat it, though, because the flavors were amazing 😉

burger

As face-rocking as the lettuce wraps were, the star of the show was THESE:

fries (2)

Angela’s Nut Butter Crusted Parsnip fries.

Why am I so late to get on the nut butter fry boat?! Why, why, whyyyyy??

I could have spent this entire time drowning in nut butter fry delight 🙂

If you haven’t made these yet, I highly recommend it…..

fries

So. Insanely. Good.

I spent most of this morning getting my clothes to sell pile together and hit up the consignment store, which was closed, went to Targizzle and trained clients. After a 45 minute treadmill sesh, I’m about to take a shower, drink this smoothie:

smoothie

(1 C almond milk, 1 C blueberries, 1 t spirulina, 1 scoop chocolate Vega, 1 banana, ice + a lil water)

and head back to work.

See ya in the morning with a bfast cookie dough cereal how-to  😀

xoxo,

Gina

Something to talk about: Have you tried a blog food phenomenon recently? What else am I missing out on? Haha 🙂 Have you experimented with a fun new-to-you ingredient lately?

I haven’t tried the nutbutter fries, but early on I got hooked on kale chips (love! a veggie I love!) and also nutritional yeast. Other than that, I usually don’t like blog phenom food!

  2. Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) on August 30, 2010 at 4:11 pm

it took me forever to try green monsters- and they are AWESOME!

Kale chips, however… I’m not quite sold on 😉

  3. Heather (Heather's Dish) on August 30, 2010 at 4:12 pm

i tried those fries and didn’t really love them! they sound amazing still though 🙂

i recently jumped on the overnight oat bandwagon…so good!

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 4:13 pm

i should have mentioned that i used sunflower seed butter instead of peanut– the flavors worked really well

  4. Kristina @ spabettie on August 30, 2010 at 4:20 pm

I wanted these the other day… could not find parsnips or any other good root veg to make them – boo. 🙂 The produce section was like the apocalypse – nothing there – it was kinda spooky.

I will try again. Yours look SO good. 🙂

  5. Mandy A on August 30, 2010 at 4:20 pm

I made Jenna’s (Eat,Live,Run) peach pie this past weekend for a friend. My first pie ever from scratch! I was pretty proud 🙂 I know it’s not a huge phenom – but should be! 🙂

Two of my fav phenom’s – Kath’s oatmeal pancakes and of course, the awesome cherry bomb smoothie 🙂

  6. Lauren @ Eat, Drink, and Be Hopeful on August 30, 2010 at 4:21 pm

I just started eating overnight chia oats and whipped banana oats. Seriously amazing stuff! I love parsnip fries so I’m sure I would love this recipe. good luck moving!

  7. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on August 30, 2010 at 4:24 pm

I haven’t tried Ange’s nut butter fries yet but they sound good! I just downed a biiiig plate of kale chips, which I burned slightly but they were still great!! And I do love the occasional bowl of overnight oats… although lately I’ve been forgetting to make them at night which is very disappointing when I realize it in the morning! 🙁

  8. Ashley on August 30, 2010 at 4:24 pm

You’re moving too? We’re moving this weekend…1 hour north to Ft. Collins, CO. I feel like the whole blog world has moved in the past 2 months! Good luck with everything 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 4:34 pm

seriously! so many people have moved or are moving!
good luck to you, too <3

  9. Heather on August 30, 2010 at 4:27 pm

    Coconut milk-based ice cream 🙂
Sooo fun to experiment with different flavas.
Also happy herbivore’s black bean brownies 🙂

the best advice I can give you is to take care of the TV remote contrlos! Put them in your purse! you’ll want to watch TV before you are done unpacking EVERYTHING and for some reason they tend to get lost.
Another GREAT tip, is for packing all your clothes….what I do with everything that is on a hanger is I lay them out nicely over a sheet (with their hanger and all) and then kind of wrap them up. That way when you get to your new home, you just open up the sheet and hang everything again,…no ironing, no re hanging required.

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 4:33 pm

WOW. those are both amazing tips! thank you!

      • Carrie on August 30, 2010 at 4:49 pm

I use towels and washcloths for packing fragile things like wine glasses. Doubles up on space in the box. 🙂 And make sure the trashcan is one of the first available items when you unload the truck! You’re going to want to throw random things away ya know?

  11. Sana on August 30, 2010 at 4:30 pm

I have heard amazing things abt nut butter fries! I need to join in on the yumminess!

  12. oohhllyyhhoo on August 30, 2010 at 4:42 pm

I’m wondering, how does the Vega protein smoothie infusion compare to the Sun Warrior taste wise, amount of protein, etc?

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 4:44 pm

sun warrior tastes better, vega has more nutrients, sun warrior is raw, vega has less protein, vega is less expensive
sun warrior wins, but vega is a close second 🙂 i’ve been depleting my vega stash since i ran out of sun warrior a few days ago

  13. Mo on August 30, 2010 at 4:47 pm

More tips – if you need to take anything apart, keep the hardware in a plastic bag and tape it well to the piece you removed it from. If you have movers, pack your boxes HEAVY . . . they have the right equipment and you’ll have less boxes to unpack. Finally, clean under the bed – that way, when they remove it, you won’t be embarrassed. The dog hair under mine was terrible – I felt awful. But the movers assured me they’d seen worse! Take care my friend.

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 7:17 pm

i did not think about under the bed… i’m scared, hahaha
      thank you!

  14. elyssa on August 30, 2010 at 4:48 pm

yes! PUMPKIN! angela (oh she glows) has been putting it in her oats…chili…everything lately, so i decided to give it a go! my favorite breakfast ‘souffle’ usually includes: 1 tbs almond butter (or pb in a pinch), 1 tbs flax, and 1 egg. mixed together and microwave for 1 min 30 secs. ive experimented with throwing half a banana into the mix (which makes it more cake-like) but ohh add a couple spoonfuls of pumpkin into the ‘batter’ and youve got pumpkin pie for breakfast! with a bit of cinnamon and maple syrup on top of course!

  15. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on August 30, 2010 at 5:05 pm

Those fries look amazing!!! Could you really taste the nut butter? Or is it more just for texture?

Blog food phenomenon? I’m still loving HEAB’s protein ice cream. What more could I possibly need??? 🙂 Oh and your Bfast cookies — I eat one every Sat morning 🙂

  16. Anna on August 30, 2010 at 5:25 pm

    Hi Gina,
Any track workouts in your noggin to mix things up? I’m sick of the old textbook track workouts.

My best advice for moving is to treat it like a workout so that packing/moving up and down flights of stairs isn’t so bad and just make a really, really good playlist to maintain sanity.
    THanks!!

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 7:16 pm

there are some track workouts in this year’s summer shape up- under the “workout” tab 🙂

  17. CathyK on August 30, 2010 at 5:30 pm

sooo many ideas i want to try but have not gotten around to! it seems like every day i see at least five GREAT ideas and they keep piling up!
congrats on your packing achievements! feels good as the rooms get emptier and the box piles get higher, eh!

  18. AngelaOSG on August 30, 2010 at 5:34 pm

    Those are great tips!

So glad you like the fries. That Ricki from Diet Dessert n Dogs is a genius. Thanks for reminding me about them again…they completely fell off my radar!

  19. QueenofFitness on August 30, 2010 at 5:39 pm

made those nut butter fries in june while my dad was home visiting. he thought they were out of this world! i love PB and every other kind of nut butter so i couldn’t keep my hands off of them. i decided i couldn’t make them again unless we had company since i can annihilate them in one sitting. tried overnight oats a few times, but frankly i am a “hot” oatmeal person. have also tried your breakfast cookie, your sweet potato chili (*which was the bomb*)the protein cakes/muffins in a mug, green monsters and some of your smoothies (your chocolate covered strawberry protein smoothies is one of my faves). everything has been fantastico! you and many other bloggers have expanded my range of eating. i don’t subscribe to any one eating plan except to abstain from red meat, limit soy, and eat a minimal amount of processed food. i will try anything and everything.

  20. Caitlin (EatFeats) on August 30, 2010 at 5:43 pm

Wow Walmart keeps it classy eh.

I think the blog food I’ve tried are sweet potatoes. Why didn’t I know about these for the first 21 years of my life?!

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 7:15 pm

      walmart IS klassy 🙂 haha

      • ari on August 30, 2010 at 10:14 pm

you should watch the documentary called “walmart: the high price of low cost”. sorry to be a downer, but walmart really is one of the worst companies out there.
it’s on netflix if you have it.

        • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 10:28 pm

hahah i was waiting for someone to say something about walmart 😉
i don’t shop there very often and prefer to buy elsewhere. i do, however, like their free boxes for moving stuff

          • Caitlin (EatFeats) on August 30, 2010 at 10:52 pm

Totally understand going there for boxes!

I would be really interesting to watch that documentary (looove stuff like that). I’ve never shopped at Walmart, but I have read and heard some pretty upsetting things about the company.

  21. Kate @ Ordinary Girl, Extraordinary Journey on August 30, 2010 at 6:06 pm

Life has been crazy the past few weeks so the only healthy living blog I’ve really been reading is yours (even though I follow a ton in my reader!)….so I haven’t even heard of the nut butter fries. This sounds fabulous though! I need to make them!

Oooh I thought of another tip since we just moved. We packed our smaller flat screen between two new (still in plastic) pillows. Put one on the front and one on the back, use packing tape to hold it all in place. (Put the tape on the plastic cover of course so it won’t damage your pillow.) Our tv made is 3,000 in the back of a box trailer safe and sound!

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 7:15 pm

well that makes me feel special 🙂 thank you!!
      awesome tip about the tv!

  22. stacey on August 30, 2010 at 6:09 pm

So glad I looked at your blog today! I’ve been looking for a lettuce wrap recipe 🙂 Yours sound great 😀 Thanks for sharing! PS. good luck packing, ugh..I hate packing!

  23. Roselyn on August 30, 2010 at 6:14 pm

Just wondering…is the military moving you? Even though moving SUCKS, I know having the military move us has been SO helpful. They pack up, pick up, and drop off. We JUST got done with a move (like LAST WEEK) and I will say: put all your remotes and cable cords in a shoe box and LABEL it…remotes & cords always get lost. Same goes for bed screws and slats…make sure they’re put together and labled. I also agree with purge, purge, purge! 🙂 Good luck!

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 7:14 pm

no because we’re not pcs-ing yet :/ i’m going to orlando and the pilot is going… somewhere else

  24. Little Bookworm on August 30, 2010 at 6:22 pm

Nut Butter Parsnip Fries sound interesting – can you really taste the nut butter? Blog food phenomenon – banana soft serve, overnight oats…breakfast cookies? 😀

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 7:14 pm

no, it’s more of a texture thing and it gives it a mild nutty taste 🙂

  25. christina cadden on August 30, 2010 at 6:41 pm

    That food looks so good!

  26. The Linz @ Destination 26.2 on August 30, 2010 at 6:45 pm

This post reminds me that I have been saving a jar of pb for overnight oats! I have been wanting to try it for months! And yes – those parsnip fries are to die for! 🙂 And I love the “raw burger” that made me lol!

  27. Karyn on August 30, 2010 at 6:46 pm

another person/blogger who’s moving? i wish i had seen these tips 2 weeks ago before my move. good luck! i hated moving with a passion so i hope yours goes smoother than mine haha 🙂

  28. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on August 30, 2010 at 6:48 pm

I don’t envy your move! Moving always drains me… and yet, we seem to do it every year! Ah, the hassle of apartment living!!

I usually don’t jump on many blog food phenomenons… but I do love Kristen’s Cherry Chocolate Bomb smoothie! And I’ve been making green smoothies and banana soft serve for years, so I guess that counts, too– even if I didn’t learn about them from blogs!

Nut butter fries sound kinda scary to me, but after hearing how much you like them, perhaps I should give them a try!

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 7:13 pm

      omg… that smoothie… i can’t get enough 🙂

  29. Lily @ Lily's Health Pad on August 30, 2010 at 6:48 pm

I give nut butter fries two thumbs up!

Do you have an Ingles (it’s a grocery store) nearby? They almost always have milk boxes that they give out for free. The great thing is they have built in handles.

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 7:13 pm

no, i’ve never heard of ingles! i’ll ask a grocery store to see if they can hook me up 🙂

  30. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on August 30, 2010 at 6:48 pm

Good luck with the rest of the moving prep! Can’t wait for the cookie dough cereal how to tomorrow 😉

  31. Lindsey @ Sound Eats on August 30, 2010 at 6:54 pm

Ok, so not a food blog phenomenon BUT you are missing out on healthylivingblogs.com!! Seriously AMAZING resource for health living blogs — just hit over 1,000 bloggers listed today, and that’s just int he first 2.5 weeks! Let me know if you want to be listed, love. 🙂

Packing tips: make a “cleaning box” – all those cleaning supplies you’ll need to clean everything up one last time before you go and to have on hand for any quick clean ups when you move into your new place. 🙂 Been very helpful the past 3 summers when we’ve moved every summer….

Other tip is just to hold on for dear life and remember moving doesn’t last forever and it’ll be over soon. 😉 (haha also why I am now saying we have to wait at least 5 yrs before moving agian!)

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 7:12 pm

i do want to be listed! i just haven’t had the chance to catch up on emails yet or email you :/

  32. melissa on August 30, 2010 at 6:56 pm

i roast all my veggies in coconut oil. love that oil! i’ve been on a hemp protein powder kick as well, great source of protein and nutty flavor. best of luck moving!

  33. Lauren on August 30, 2010 at 7:01 pm

The nut butter fries changed my life for sure! I can’t stop making them now. 🙂

  34. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on August 30, 2010 at 7:05 pm

I tried those nut butter fries a while ago and love em! Can’t wait for winter when I’ll be really craving them.

I picked up some wheat berries and millet today to experiment with 🙂

  35. The Healthy Hostess on August 30, 2010 at 7:05 pm

Nut butter fries are a new fave at my house too! Go Angela! Your lettuce wraps look great too!
Cookie Dough cereal may be my next big thing. 🙂

  36. Krystina on August 30, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Aren’t they great? I haven’t made those in a while, but now I have a craving!

I went to a raw place once where they charged $14 for ONE romaine lettuce leaf “taco”. Ridiculous.

  37. Kristen @ That Hoosier Girl on August 30, 2010 at 7:38 pm

I have done more military moves than I really ever care to recount.

My #1 advice is to make sure you stash your most memorable stuff away before the movers come in (the Navy paid for movers so I’m assuming the AF is the same way?)

They pack the most random stuff together and you end up hiding away a box labeled “junk drawer” only to find out many moves later it had ohhhh a wedding album in it 🙂

  38. Alycia [Fit n Fresh] on August 30, 2010 at 7:41 pm

YUM! Those lettuce wraps look good!! And I love that you’re already organizing – your preparedness puts me to shame

  39. Dana in KC on August 30, 2010 at 7:43 pm

I have been hooked on your protein pancakes made with a flax egg instead of the egg white and a 1/2 teaspoon of oil. I bought a Joyce Chen spiralizer after one of your posts but I put it together backwards and now I have not been able to get it apart. 🙁

  40. Sara Stainbrook on August 30, 2010 at 8:16 pm

As ridiculous as it sounds I just started adding nut butter to my oats in the morning!!! So amazingly good.. add in a sprinkle of cocao nibs and it’s like a reese’s peanut butter cup just waiting to be devoured 🙂 Oh and those lettuce wraps look AMAZING !

  41. April @ Crazy Fabulous Life on August 30, 2010 at 8:18 pm

Hmmm..those parsnip fries look interesting. I’ll have to try that sometime!

  42. Laura on August 30, 2010 at 8:36 pm

Make sure you pack up some toilet paper in the stuff you put in storage for the move you make when the pilot returns. I moved back to my hometown while my husband was deployed and just moved back to Fayetteville this week. It was great to have TP handy and not have to rush right out to buy it.

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 9:12 pm

      good tip!
      how do you like fay?!

      • Laura on August 31, 2010 at 3:37 pm

Fay is ok, not my favorite place but it could be worse. I’m surprised how much it’s grown and how many more people are here just since I left last year.

        • Fitnessista on August 31, 2010 at 3:46 pm

yeah, i actually really loved fay. compared to valdosta, it was like new york haha. the fitness classes at pope (when it was open) were amazing. do you take any of the classes? if so, see if bonnie is still teaching there!

          • Laura on August 31, 2010 at 4:16 pm

I haven’t had a chance to get to the base gyms yet since I just got back down here and have been preparing for hubby to come home tomorrow, yay! I’m really hoping to find a good Zumba class though since I had to leave my awesome Zumba instructor in Pittsburgh.

          • Fitnessista on August 31, 2010 at 5:01 pm

  43. Tina on August 30, 2010 at 8:42 pm

I love Angela’s nutbutter fries. They really are sooo good. I’m actually trying kale chips for the first time tomorrow night.

  44. Chelsea on August 30, 2010 at 9:15 pm

I have been wanting to try the nut butter fries, but haven’t yet. With so many good reviews, I’m obviously missing out!

  45. fittingbackin on August 30, 2010 at 9:17 pm

I’d like to try those fries – smart! I’m a fun of butternut squash fries and sweet potato fries – both somewhat old blog phenoms. 🙂

My only packing tip from our last move (and forgive me if this is a repeat OR if it’s not relevant) is two separate labels for boxes if it’s a 2-story house. Our label was written in red and smaller – told which room it went in. The movers label simply said UP or DOWN in large black writing. I didn’t mind sliding boxes to the correct rooms, but didn’t want to have to go up and down. We saved a lot of time/money just having them leave stacks of boxes downstairs and on the landing upstairs! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 10:29 pm

      awesome tip- thank you!

  46. Emily @ Emilyeatsclean on August 30, 2010 at 9:50 pm

I really need to try nut butter fries!! I thought that the packing was the worse part, but now that we have lived in our new place 3 months and still have boxes full of crap…..I think unpacking is the worse part. Good luck!! 🙂

  47. Ellen@FirednFabulous on August 30, 2010 at 9:50 pm

A burger? Wow. Confirmation that I could NEVER go raw. Those parsnip fries look Yum-my!

  48. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on August 30, 2010 at 10:36 pm

“This is what some raw restaurants would call “a burger.” And I would laugh.”–I would too but they would also charge at least $15 for it. At least. And the portion size would be appetizer size. This is why as a high raw vegan I never got out..I’d go broke. Or laugh too much to finish my meal 🙂

I have a recipe for nut butter encrusted mini carrots. It’s a great way to use up the mini carrots or if you dont want to actually chop a potato up into wedges, it’s easy to use mini carrots. I added other things besides nut butter to my marinade/mixture too to jazz it up (I wont link drop on ya) 🙂

Oh and I believe Angela adapted that recipe from Ricki of Diet and Dessert Dogs. Ricki came up with it but isn’t the one truly being known for it. Ricki’s such a sweet woman, too!

Good luck packing girl. It sucks. Press on, you will be done soon, I hope!

    🙂

  49. Jaclyn on August 30, 2010 at 10:39 pm

Just an idea *Have you considered selling some of your clothes on the blog? I totally don’t think it would be looked down upon, especially because most of your readers are women, and we all know you gots style 🙂 (and nice taste 😀 ) You know, you’d maybe make 15% at a consignment shop and I’m sure you could make more like 60-75 if you sold/auctioned your stuff on the blog… just throwing it out there!

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2010 at 10:44 pm

that’s a really good idea! maybe i could donate the $ to charity??

  50. Allison on August 30, 2010 at 11:13 pm

organized packing will make your life SO much more simple.
