On a boat

Hi guys! How’s your day going so far?? We’ve had a pretty glorious morning. The weather was beautiful, the Pilot had a day off work, so we rented a boat to explore Mission Bay.

We knew Liv was going to be a fan, but she LOVED it. She even helped the Pilot out with some of the steering. 😉

I felt a wave of nostalgia remembering the summers we spent on my parents’ boat. Since Kyle and I were Liv’s age, we spent a lot of time out on the lake with our family, and they’re some of my favorite memories from when I was little.

Liv was on a mission to find mermaids. Unfortunately, we didn’t spot any, but these seals were a close second. 😉

PS. The Bob Marley station on Pandora is so.good.

Beach baby 1 of 1 3

I’m starting to wonder if the beach ever loses its novelty, because it doesn’t seem to be the case. Every time we’re playing on the sand, jumping over waves, or out on the water, it’s just as exciting as the time before. Friends who have lived by the water for a long period of time: do you ever get “used to” it?

After our boating adventure, we had a delicious dinner at Draft in Belmont Park. It’s a newish brewery with burgers, salads and sandwiches. The ahi tuna salad was pretttyyyyy good, but not quite as good as breakfast.

(a fave combo: brown rice toast, two eggs, avocado, feta and smoked paprika)

Hope you have a lovely evening! See ya in the morning with an all-new HIIT/Barre workout.

xoxo

Congrats to Ariel! It is my goal to eventually live by the ocean and I do not believe it would ever get old. 🙂

I grew up on a small town on the Central Coast and I still don’t think I am used to the ocean. Probably because it was always SO cold ha. Love that breakfast combo – fried eggs for life.

  3. Heather @ Housewife Glamour on November 5, 2014 at 3:06 pm

The ocean NEVER gets old. I never lived closer than 45 minutes to it, but I used to go every single weekend in high school. I miss the sand so very much!

  4. Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on November 5, 2014 at 3:08 pm

What a lovely day! I grew up going boating back in Florida and love the fresh sea breeze. And yes, your breakfast looks quite yummy!

What an awesome way to spend your day as a fam!

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, spent most of my weekends in Half Moon Bay since I was a baby (small coastal town just south of the city). My godfather lives in a small house on a beach there, and 30 years later visiting NEVER GETS OLD. My husband always points out the somber mood I fall into on our drive home because it tears me apart when we drive away at the end of a weekend visit (we now live 2.5hrs away).

Welcome to California coastal living. Life will never be the same 🙂

I’ve never actually been out on a boat! But I don’t want to! I would never go on a cruise! Too scary, haha!

  7. Britt@MyOwnBalance on November 5, 2014 at 3:38 pm

I love that photo of Olivia driving the boat! She looks so serious like “I got this.” Haha.

The water is so breathtakingly beautiful, I don’t think you can get used to it!

  8. Ariel on November 5, 2014 at 3:53 pm

SO excited to win this amazing giveaway!! Love this blog so much!!

I grew up 15 minutes away from the beach, and I just moved to a place where the beach is about an hour away!! I already miss the water, but at least I have some fun weekend trips to look forward to!

Hope you all had a wonderful day on the water! Thanks again for the giveaway, I can’t wait to receive my goodies!!! 🙂

The ocean never gets old. We’ve been living by it for almost 9 years now. I can’t imagine NOT being by it!

  11. April on November 5, 2014 at 5:02 pm

I am probably gonna get some haters, but yes, growing up in So Cal, it did get old, or maybe i should say i didn’t appreciate it like i should have – moved to Boston and now i wish i would have savored it more. But, when visiting i take it ALL in and appreciate every ounce!!! The little things:)

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2014 at 9:56 pm

i think you don’t fully appreciate them until you’re away. that’s how i felt about tucson. i couldn’t wait to leave, and once i moved, i couldn’t wait to get back

  16. Coco on November 5, 2014 at 6:19 pm

I just went on my honeymoon to Maui and my husband and I both wondered the same thing: do these locals get sick of the scenery? It’s so gorgeous with the mountains and the beautiful aqua waters, I can’t imagine living there. Amazing!

  17. Lauren on November 5, 2014 at 6:40 pm

One of my happiest days was getting a boat to explore the ocean. Diving, fishing, swimming, just walking on the beach cheers me up like nothing else can. It is paradise and it never gets old for me. Go sit and watch the sunset while eating fresh catch of the day – Yes please.

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2014 at 9:54 pm

that sounds like the best way to spend an evening.

  18. Jaleh on November 5, 2014 at 6:45 pm

Yes! I L.O.V.E. toast with avocado and eggs for breakfast. Every morning I have an internal debate about avocado/egg/toast or banana oats. Such a toughie!

  19. Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola on November 5, 2014 at 6:54 pm

That is so cute that Liv was looking for mermaids 🙂 Maybe she’ll spot one next time 😉

  20. Jessie on November 5, 2014 at 6:57 pm

Wow, looked like a lovely day! How fun! You have a beautiful family. I used to live in SD for most of my life. I lived just about 15 min from the beach, and it was always so nice to go there and unfortunately, after a while, you can take it for granted. Now I live states away, but hope to return one day:)

Looking forward to your new hiit/barre workout! I love the combo. Have a nice rest of the week!

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2014 at 9:53 pm

so happy you enjoy the combo! hope you like the new video, too 🙂

  23. Joanna on November 5, 2014 at 9:04 pm

As a girl who grew up a next to the beach, it doesn’t get old but having so many foggy days does get old. Lucky for you, Southern Calif. doesn’t seem to have that trouble. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2014 at 9:53 pm

yeah, it’s amazing! it’s a little foggy very early, but not too bad 🙂

My fiancé and I live on the water in Michigan. We just moved to Torino, Italy for a 2 year position (for my fiancé’s job) and even though we’re in ITALY we still miss it. We kept our house and we plan on going back to it when we are done here. We always say there’s no way we could ever NOT live on the water… it’s amazing!

    • Fitnessista on November 6, 2014 at 3:42 pm

(i have to say i’m pretty jelly that you’re in italy) 🙂

I live 2 hours from the beach and that is FAR ENOUGH! I could never live in the middle of the country.

It’s great that you’re making the most of your time in San Diego! Can we please trade houses? At least for the winter?? Haha! I’m sure you’ll grow to love Kansas City’s cold, snowy climate 😉

    • Fitnessista on November 6, 2014 at 3:30 pm

hahah that sounds positively wonderful 🙂 (i think i would die in the snow haha)

avocado toast is the best. i would love to be on a boat right now…

  33. Lucie@FitSwissChick on November 6, 2014 at 2:29 pm

Oh, this looks lovely!! I don’t think I could ever get used to a beach and the ocean. I lived in the Philippines for almost 4 months and it was the most amazing thing for me to fall asleep every night with the sound of the waves.

  34. Megan Infantino on November 6, 2014 at 5:44 pm

The water never gets old. I’ve lived about 10-15 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico ever since I was 6. I still love to live close to the water.

  35. katie on November 6, 2014 at 6:42 pm

Been in San Diego about 16 years. The beach never gets old… And enjoying it with kids makes it brand new all over again! 🙂
