On the prowl

Hey everyone! Happy Sunday! Hope you’ve had a wonderful and relaxing weekend 😀

I was like a little kid at Christmas when I found out there were two Zumba classes in a row yesterday. So my aunt and I went and had a little Zumbathon 🙂

We split a Larabar in between classes:

keylimelara

The two hours of Zumba rocked my face off…and my booty 😀

After Zumba, we found my cousin who was running in the gym and all went to Whole Foods for some bfast action.

I had my favorite green juice: green apple, lemon, spinach and parsley

and a container of berries:

IMG00093-20091128-1334-2

The pilot and I got ready and we started our hunt for ugly Christmas sweaters.

I kept begging him to look for a thrift store in Winter Park.

The reason:

118

I REALLY wanted something from Cafe 118* 😀

So we got to-go:

togo

I had the Pad Thai:

padthai

He got the Mexican Salad (which was kind of gross- they shafted us on the queso sauce and there were hardly any veggies…mostly spinach) and we shared the raw s’more, which was glorious

rawsmores

I think I’ll be making some of those this week 😉

The first time I had Cafe 118*, I was sick as a dog all night because as a semi-raw newbie, I didn’t know and ordered a bunch of nut-based food. Nuts are no picnic to digest in large quantities, so I’ve learned to order mostly veggie-based food at raw restaurants and one nut-based treat. Haven’t gotten sick since 🙂

We went to quite a few places, on the prowl for an ugly Christmas sweater for the pilot and no luck so far :/ We did find him an awesome pair of hideous brown pants and a leather derby hat, but no sweater.. yet. We have a week and a half to find something for both of us, since I also lost the bid on the dress I was going to wear. eBay won’t let me copy the picture, but it was a beautiful Christmas abomination mini dress 😀

For dinner, the pilot and I decided to make a Sunday night grill feast (on Saturday).

I did the usual veggie packs:

veg

(Squash, zucchini, mushroom, grape tomatoes, onion, rosemary, garlic, sea salt, pepper and extra virgin olive oil)

And marinated some of fresh and beautiful salmon in a little bit of maple syrup, and rubbed them with sea salt and pepper

fresh

In honor of my fellow vino-loving bloggy, my aunt and I shared this wine:

murphy

It was very Goode. 😀

Everyone else had Baileys, which I stole a few sips of 😉

The pilot put everything on the grill and did the salmon on cedar planks:

grill

And they came out beautifully:

mmm

Perfectly cooked, seasoned and topped with some chopped red bell pepper

mmmmm

My plate, with vino and some sweet potato fries

served

Quite the feast, ehhh? 😀

We watched the end of Elf,  and most of Sisterhood of the Traveling pants before I fell asleep on the couch 😀

I did something yesterday that I haven’t done since the weather has gotten colderI ate raw until dinner, which I used to do all the time. It felt SO. GOOD. So I’ve decided that I’m going to try to get back into that and see how it goes, and if anything, I can warm lunch up in the dehydrator so that it’s not totally cold when I eat it. Of course, I’m going to roll with whatever I feel like (and that might be oats in the morning or roasted veggies for lunch), but I’m going to make more of an effort to eat raw like I used to, because I love it (and how it makes me feel) so mucho.

Well it’s time for me to wake the snoozing pilot and see if he still wants to hit up a museum he was talking about, pick up Viesa then get on the road to Valdizzy 😀

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo,

Gina

I loveeeeeeeeeeeee that flavor Larabar. My only one that tops that is the Cocunut Cream Pie. They are both so amazing!

Now I have to go to Orlando. BAH! I need to try that raw place.

I’ve been trying to do the same now, get back to raw. I used to do it all summer and I love how it makes me feel. I’ll be looking forward to meal ideas from you, since I know you make some of the best raw recipes!

    Your dinner looks lovely too!

I’ve still never tried Zumba! Someday, someday…
And those raw s’mores have me contemplating relocating my home just so I can have a taste. They look too good to be true!

P.S. Thank you so much for the sweet reply emil; I’ll write back soon 🙂

Gina….you rawk girl! I feel like you are a kindered spirit of mine, haha I have been reading your blog and I love it! It’s uncanny some days I will read your blog and realize that I made exactly what you did the day before. When your dog Bella was sick…..my cat Daisy was sick and she had that same sad look in her eyes and had to be put on antibiotics! I try to eat raw for breakfast and lunch and love to make a nutritious dinner (meat free of course but I will eat grilled salmon on occasion!) Another thing we have in common is the love of red wine…organic of course and I usaually have a glass while preparing dinner…it’s the best!

    Thank you for your inspiration!

I’ve been trying to get my boyfriend commit to wearing an ugly Xmas sweater for our big Christmas party this year! I think it would be sooo hilarious if we were both wearing the tackiest sweaters ever. I want one that lights up or something – anyway, I’ll keep an eye out and let you know if I find a good store for them! 🙂

Cute outfit! I love Elf… it always gets me in the Christmas spirit. 🙂

  24. Lisa on November 29, 2009 at 6:35 pm

If you didn’t find any sweaters; try Goodwill, or some of the dollar stores around here. I’ve surely seen them @ Walmart too. I luv grilled salmon & veggies; one of my favorites.

  25. Stephanie on November 29, 2009 at 6:40 pm

I was going to suggest WalMart, too, but I saw Lisa above already beat me to it! They definitely have some “unattractive” clothing items for the holidays 😉 Also, as a backup you could always buy plain sweatshirts (for about $5 at WalMart) and then a pack of those iron-on designs and do that and puffy paint. Those sweatshirts were all the rage about 10 years ago, and now it’s a cheap option for an “ugly xmas sweater party”!

  26. Meggilizz on November 29, 2009 at 8:25 pm

Okay–you’ve encouraged me to make raw overnight oats for breakfast tomorrow!! 🙂 I’ve done it once before with yogurt, but I’m fresh out, so we’ll see how milk works.

  27. glidingcalm on November 29, 2009 at 8:54 pm

i had salmon tonight and thought of youuuuuuuuuuu!

    HUGS lovahhhhhhhh!

    Hi there,
I have enjoyed your blog for long time. So great.

  29. Heather McD (Heather Eats Almond Butter) on November 29, 2009 at 11:33 pm

That maple syrup marinated salmon sounds amazing. I love all your grilling action. The Pilot needs to give Christian Dior some lessons!

Now about that raw s’more. I definitely think I need that in my life. 😉

Safe travels back to V-town my friend!

  30. chrysta on November 30, 2009 at 2:35 am

I cannot wait to try Zumba! I wanted to go this week but they had it canceled since it fell on thanksgiving. Darn! Oh well…The Salmon looks fantastic by the way. Id love to know how to make a raw s’more! That sounds incredibly fabulous!
    Have a good night!

So glad that cafe 118 is a hit!! We plan to stop there this coming weekend before we head back to NC. I can’t wait!!

  32. Brigid on November 30, 2009 at 11:01 am

I love eating raw, but I struggle with it in the cold months. I need to find some good recipes. We just had a raw cafe open in my town, and I’m dying to try it.
