OOTD: shades of grey

Here to there dress 1 of 1

I can confidently say I’ve worn sneakers every day this past week. The Skyscapes pretty much haven’t left my feet, and they’ve been the perfect “moving” shoe: super comfy, light and match pretty much everything. I like the fact that I can dress them down (wayyyy down in jean shorts and a too-old-but-I’m-never-letting-go-of-this-one U of A tee) or even pair them with a casual dress.

This dress is the lululemon “Here to There” dress. It has soft, structured fabric and an awesome fit. Bonus: the extra long zipper pull, because it’s a little tricky to get into 😉

What’s your favorite everyday sneaker? I’m a huge fan of Converse and TOMs, too 🙂

xoxo

Gina

*not sponsored: Reebok sent me a pair of pink Skyscapes and I loved them so much, I ordered a pair in grey.

Love the gray too, might have to get a pair for myself
I’ve been debating! I also love my toms however I never know what size to get!

    • Fitnessista on April 5, 2014 at 7:19 pm

toms aren’t very consistent with sizing; i’ve had 3 pairs and they’re all different sizes!

  2. Emily @ The Swallow Flies on April 5, 2014 at 7:26 pm

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Skyscapes — I may just have to get a pair for all the traveling I have on my calendar this summer!

  3. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on April 5, 2014 at 7:55 pm

I love my pink Skyscapes. You look adorable in your grey ones!

  4. Ashley N. on April 5, 2014 at 8:18 pm

I think I need to take the leap and purchase Skyscapes! The grey looks ADORABLE with your dress. Do the shoes run pretty typical in size?

    • Fitnessista on April 5, 2014 at 8:29 pm

thank you! yep, perfectly true to size 🙂 if you’re in between, i’d go up (like i wear a 7.5 or 8, and an 8 is perfect)

      • Ashley N. on April 5, 2014 at 8:33 pm

Thank you! I think I need to go find my wallet now. 🙂

I thought you weren’t purchasing Lululemon anymore? And what happened to your no shopping during Lent? I think this dress just came out.

    • Fitnessista on April 5, 2014 at 8:46 pm

i wasn’t purchasing lululemon while chip wilson worked for them. since he’s no longer involved with the company, i feel more comfortable shopping there, especially since they’re trying to rebrand and change their image.
you can do things you gave up for lent on sundays. i’ve always thought it defeated the purpose, but really needed a little retail therapy.

      • Pam on April 5, 2014 at 9:01 pm

cool. I haven’t been paying attention, so I didn’t know he was out of the picture. Good to know!

        • Fitnessista on April 5, 2014 at 9:18 pm

yeah, i was very happy to see him go 😉

      • sarah on April 6, 2014 at 10:19 am

I definitely don’t get this. It may make sense if you gave up something you are likely to/tempted to do daily, like eat chocolate, but how is it really that much of a sacrifice to switch your shopping day from, say, Thursday to Sunday? Is shopping that much of a daily occurrence that limiting yourself to once a week constitutes some kind of lenten sacrifice? If so, good for you… but otherwise, it just seems kind of empty.

        • Fitnessista on April 6, 2014 at 12:37 pm

i don’t think it’s that big of a deal. i bought a couple of things and it was sunday, it perked me up a little.

  6. Karissa on April 5, 2014 at 9:43 pm

I have looked at those a couple times since you mentioned getting them in the first place – I love them! I’m also a Toms fan, but would like a pair of sneakers to wear with everything. May have to get the gray pair …

  7. Amanda on April 5, 2014 at 10:02 pm

I’m pretty much a converse girl 🙂 I wear the low tops (current fave: grey). About to get a white pair for spring/summer! They’re great with jeans, which are my wardrobe staples, and then in summer they’re super cute with a skirt (and great for biking around town). I’ve yet to try Toms, but I think they’d look great with cuffed jeans and skirts as well. I have wide-ish feet (for a gal) – do you think they’d be comfy for a wider foot?

  8. Whitney @ To Live & Diet in L.A. on April 5, 2014 at 10:27 pm

That dress is super cute! Love the look with sneaks too 🙂

I have a pair of Alexander McQueen for Puma sneakers that I wear when I feel like pretending to be a hipster, but mostly I just bum around in my running shoes when I’m not glamming it up 🙂

  9. Mary Ellen on April 5, 2014 at 10:37 pm

I think a little retail therapy was a very good idea with all that you have had going on lately! Great dress–you look beautiful! 🙂

  10. Helen on April 6, 2014 at 12:23 am

This post inspired me to go order some cute sneakers. I’m 6.5 months pregnant and the support in the flats that I normally wear all Spring are starting to really not cut it. It’s so hard to find cute sneakers, though that are also comfy!

  11. Laura @Fit Mama Love on April 6, 2014 at 12:55 am

I don’t wear sneakers outside the gym ever! I’m definitely more of a flip flops girl. I go for the sanuk shoe/sandal things or now my pair of flat Uggs if I need something more shoe-like. Not a Toms girl either, but I do think they’re cute on little kids.

  12. Josie on April 6, 2014 at 1:54 am

I’m definitely a converse girl. I bought a pair of Vans a while ago and love them so much.

  13. Kim @ FITsique on April 6, 2014 at 7:44 am

I love the outfit! Cute and comfortable!

  14. Livi on April 6, 2014 at 9:16 am

I love grey! Grey with a pop of yellow is my favorite!!

  15. Melissa a on April 6, 2014 at 9:18 am

Hey Gina, thanks for the post. I was actually thinking about buying a pair of the grey too as a casual everyday shoe too. But I have arch issues (over probate & flat arch) so am hesitant. I can sometimes get away with no/low support flats and similar shoes for everyday use but some days my feet aren’t happy with little support. I wouldn’t run in these but wear a “control” shoe, just for a frame of reference. Any thoughts on supportiveness of these shoes? Not sure if you have similar issues.. Thanks!

  16. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on April 6, 2014 at 10:07 am

I love the look of those shoes! I have heard they are super comfortable too. I need to try them out because I am all about anything that is both comfortable and nice looking!

  17. Cassie on April 6, 2014 at 10:52 am

You look super cute in that dress!

  18. Colleen on April 6, 2014 at 10:58 am

I did a double take looking at the first picture — the tree behind you blended with your hair, and for a minute i thought you had a giant waist-length dredlock ponytail!

  19. Cheri @ Overactive Blogger on April 6, 2014 at 12:50 pm

Wait…that dress is from Lulu? I kinda love it, I might buy one because it looks like it could easily be worn for work!

    • Heather J on April 6, 2014 at 3:49 pm

It’s sold out and it cost a crazy $130

      • Fitnessista on April 6, 2014 at 7:21 pm

i had no idea they were sold out. the lulu here has a ton of them! if you’re a fitness instructor you get 15% off 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2014 at 7:22 pm

yep, you can dress it up or down!

  20. Emily on April 6, 2014 at 5:38 pm

I haven’t bought any “lifestyle” clothes from lulu yet, only workout clothes. But all of their to-and-from stuff is so cute, and I know the quality’s there to make it last forever!

I love my Toms. They finally became shredded beyond all reason, and I was so heartbroken to replace them. However my new one are a green space dye, and go with absolutely everything! I also would like some white lace Toms, but they would get so dirty so fast!

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2014 at 7:20 pm

i was really impressed with the quality of the dress. the construction is fantastic and reminds me of the old-school lulu quality i loved so dearly
i had white toms and they were dirty in one day. such a bummer!
hope you had a great weekend <3

You look gorgeous Gena! Good luck with the move and give La Jolla lots of love for me xoxox

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2014 at 7:17 pm

      i will, thank you!

  22. Anna on April 6, 2014 at 9:19 pm

Super cute dress! I am not Catholic, so I am not really sure what the “Sunday” rule. Can you explain?

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2014 at 9:41 pm

technically you can have or do what you gave up for lent on sundays. i’ve never really been on board with that, but i needed a little retail therapy and it happened to be sunday

      • Ali on April 6, 2014 at 10:28 pm

I’m born and raised Catholic and have never heard of this “rule”. I think I would feel like it is defeating the purpose of giving something up for Lent. I don’t know, I always felt like it is a good practice of self discipline to go the full 40 days but to each their own. I gave up sweets this year because I’m going through an intense, major life transition and am a comfort eater. It has been extremely difficult but also rewarding to find other ways of comforting myself.

      • Erin on April 7, 2014 at 8:54 am

I was raised with the Lent “Sunday rule” also. But my husband was not. We argue about it all the time, lol. But I explained I am 32 weeks pregnant and WILL be eating ice cream on Sundays!

Also, Lent is longer than 40 days, which is why a lot of people do the Sunday thing.

  23. Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries on April 6, 2014 at 11:43 pm

So cute! I didn’t realize they were Skyscapes at first! We had a big move this past week as well, and I wore my Skyscapes constantly. They’ve been perfect for all the packing, moving, and errand running. I love the look with a casual dress!

  24. Katie on April 7, 2014 at 3:15 pm

The skyscapes rock! I love the grey too, might have to get those! The pink are so bright and fun, I have those!

And love that lulu dress! I actually got a dress just like that from forever21 the other day!

  25. Kelsey @ Ramblings of Change on April 8, 2014 at 6:50 am

    Love the gray skyscapes! =)

  26. Bethany Sanchez on April 14, 2014 at 2:01 pm

G! Stunning. And loving all of the critical commentary here- geesh, am I back in catholic school? Lent (and all other personal choices vis a vis religion) are soulful experiences that each person tailors to themselves, hopefully remembering that self-love was always the edict. I admire your patience, I need a jog after all this lol 😉
