Philly Outfit Picks

I’m the worst about packing clothes for a vacation. I go through all the “what if I need this too?” scenarios, end up totally overpacking, and then hating everything I brought with me.

I’ve gotten more savvy over time by packing 3-4 shoes instead of 10, checking the weather, making lists and planning things out. I’ve also started just taking a carryon bag for shorter trips, forcing myself to pack less. [Bonus: not having to wait at baggage claim or having my luggage get lost!]

However, this weekend’s 20-minute packing scramble left me randomly throwing things into my suitcase, planning on the spot, and praying I’d have outfits that actually went together. To my total surprise, I wore everything in my suitcase, didn’t forget anything major (gym sneakers and jammies- I stole a pair of the Pilot’s boxers and slept in those with a lululemon tank), and actually had outfits that matched in there!

Maybe I’ll pack last minute more often 😉

Here are 4 of the outfits from this weekend –I had one more, but didn’t get a photo in it

I wanted to go with baggy on top to camouflage the bump a little and just be comfortable for a day of walking around and events.

So glad you left Philly yesterday and weren’t there to feel the earthquake and the mass of people flooded out onto the streets in the city! It also would have been difficult to get a cab! You packed very well! And looked great!

I looove bringing dresses on vacation (unless it’s freezing). You don’t have to worry about matching the bottoms to the top, and they take up way less room! Win-win.

I love that grey skirt, looks super comf!

    • Fitnessista on August 23, 2011 at 7:02 pm

exactly- dresses are my go-to outfit, because you don’t have to worry about putting pieces together

  3. Megan @ On The Road Again on August 23, 2011 at 6:49 pm

You look adorable and clearly did an awesome job packing! Loving all of the maxi dresses and long skirt. I feel like that would be a good way to go this fall when I head back to work.

And you seem to still be rocking regular clothes from real lady stores, which is great. The maternity stores are pretty much awful, but I’ve already grown out of most of my non-maternity jeans and most shirts.

    • Fitnessista on August 23, 2011 at 6:54 pm

thank you! i have yet to find a maternity piece i actually like.

  4. Kathryn @ Flopoodle on August 23, 2011 at 6:50 pm

LOVE the Express skirt! And the grey BR dress…gorge! You are truly talented if you threw all of these outfits together while simultaneously stressing about missing your flight!

  5. Kimberly on August 23, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Love the dresses-comfy! Your bump is adorb 🙂

  6. Hillary on August 23, 2011 at 7:55 pm

Every single one of those dresses is gorgeous. And I’m envious of your hamsa necklace! I saw a bunch I LOVED in Israel, and I’m kicking myself for not buying any of them. I did get a little hamsa charm bracelet, though!

  7. ashmastandrea on August 23, 2011 at 8:01 pm

Cute! How great was it to wear a sweater?! I’m so over summer…can’t wait to have to throw on a light wrap! 🙂

  8. Chelsa on August 23, 2011 at 8:12 pm

Cute vacation outfits. I especially like the maxi skirt and racer back one because you look comfy and chic. I love the necklace too.

  9. Sana on August 23, 2011 at 8:13 pm

I loved everything you wore in philly, I totally wear outfits like that even without the cute baby bump!

  10. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on August 23, 2011 at 8:13 pm

Hey Girl! I think you always look awesome, but I especially loved the Forever 21 dress! You really rocked that like no ones business. You look like you’re ten feet tall!

  11. Louise on August 23, 2011 at 8:27 pm

You look amazing and I know you’d mentioned previously that you have no idea how to dress yourself anymore, but going by your recent posts I would say you are hitting the nail right on the head! You look very ‘on trend’ and gorgeous 🙂 I especially LOVE the forever21 maxi, the colour is amazing on you and the dress itself is perfect. (Am a wee bit jealous – no Forever21 here in little old NZ 🙁 )

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2011 at 1:21 am

      aww thank you! 🙂

  12. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on August 23, 2011 at 8:49 pm

I love comfy dresses for trips in the summer because they’re easy to pack and don’t require a lot of pieces to look ready to go. You looked great all weekend!

  13. Katie @ Plates and Paste on August 23, 2011 at 8:52 pm

I’m the same way! I always overpack even if it’s just for a weekend trip.

<3 that Forever 21 dress- $17 what a steal! I hate that whenever I see something I like on someone from that store it's almost impossible to find!

  16. Emilia on August 23, 2011 at 9:33 pm

I absolutely adore the third outfit, you can totally pull off the maxi-skirt, gorgeous! I love the idea of wearing a Lululemon tank apart from working out, I would never have guessed that it was exercise gear. 🙂

  17. Heather (Heather's Dish) on August 23, 2011 at 9:59 pm

i do the exact same thing with all of the scenarios and crazy packing stories…i think i’ll start packing last minute too and hope for the best! i am loving the outfit you have on with the maxi skirt…so cute!

  18. Shaya on August 23, 2011 at 10:00 pm

I love love love outfit number 1. I would TOTALLY wear that right now, and I’m not preggers 😉 I totally actually pointed that out to my hubby– it’s probably one of the few outfits you’ve posted that would look right on my body type haha.

The hamsa necklace is also a winner! so cute.

  19. Julie on August 23, 2011 at 10:28 pm

I just bought that bag online yesterday with birthday money from my mom… Glad you love it bc I was kind of worried about spending so much on a bag but all I’ve heard are good things about it! Great minds think alike 🙂

  20. Kate @ Vet in the Saddle on August 23, 2011 at 10:41 pm

love the tank + maxi skirt.

I wish I could pull the maxi skirt/dress look off, I think it emphasizes my hips too much 🙁

  21. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on August 23, 2011 at 11:08 pm

    I love all your looks
but the Outfit 3: Airport and walking around is just sleek, simple, flattering and I bet comfy!

And you are doing great not wasting money on maternity clothes til you absolutely need them. Love stretchy fabrics and skirts and elastic waists as long as humanly possible b/c most maternity stuff is a rip off, and not exactly always the cutest 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2011 at 1:19 am

      thank you friend!
yes, i can’t stand any of the maternity stuff i see

  22. Lissi on August 24, 2011 at 5:14 am

Love all of your outfits. Will you do a post on your must haves or what you are loving for a fall wardrobe?

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2011 at 10:10 am

      for sure!

  23. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on August 24, 2011 at 8:18 am

I’m so impressed with your last minute outfits! If I had packed in 20 minutes I would probably end up wearing a boring old t-shirt and jeans with mismatched shoes. 😛 I love your Forever 21 dress – what a steal!!

  24. Brittany on August 24, 2011 at 10:02 am

I think this post is proof of your natural sense of style: when faced with a 20-minute packing challenge, the truth comes out! Love each of these outfits, Gina!

Question about the BR striped maxi dress: did you need to get it hemmed? I think you and I are about the same height. I love that dress big time and have bought and returned it TWICE due to it being super long and me being too lazy to take it to a tailor. It looks like the perfect length on you in that last photo!

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2011 at 10:06 am

      thank you, lovely <3
i buy petite sizes in banana dresses and the length is perfect! the regular size dresses are usually way too long

      • Brittany on August 25, 2011 at 5:39 pm

Bah, I never saw a petite version…dang! Onto the next.. Haha.

  25. Aleksis on August 24, 2011 at 10:57 am

You can’t even tell you’re preggo! Crazy!

  26. Jennifer on August 24, 2011 at 11:06 am

i have that same express maxi skirt and i love it so much that i went back and bought a black one too! kind of wish they’d make more colors 🙁

nice work on the packing, you look super cute!

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2011 at 11:12 am

i might need to get another one, too. so comfy!! wish they did prints, too

  27. Samantha on August 24, 2011 at 12:00 pm

I remember when you got your MJ bag. I love that bag. I covet that bag. I totally 100% support the purchase of said bag. I think it was maybe your best purchase ever. Am I creeping you out yet? 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2011 at 4:28 pm

haha! it was one of my best purchases ever! i carry it almost every day

  28. Amy on August 24, 2011 at 12:39 pm

I am OBSESSED with that Express skirt in the third outfit. I definitely think I might have to take a trip to the mall to pick it up! You look so great, Gina! 🙂
