Pizza Party

Hey friends <3 How are ya? Hope your weekend is off to a great start!

After hot bar, Nordstrom Rack, and an impromptu pizza party, mine definitely is 🙂

I had my gestational diabetes test this morning –deets are on the family page- and as soon as I was given the freedom to eat, the Pilot and I shared these roasted chickpea snacks.

chickpeas

OpenSky sent them to me to see if I’d like to add them to my store, and as much as I wanted to like them, we weren’t huge fans. They needed to be crunchier and almost tasted stale, even though they weren’t. It’s a fantastic idea for a snack, though.

After my doc appt, the Pilot went back to work and I met up with a friend at Nordstrom Rack, which just opened yesterday.

rack

[Sorry for the blurry pic- my hands were a little shaky from all the sugar]

The verdict: LOVED it.

They had a Nordstrom Rack in Orlando, but I never found anything and really had to dig when I was there. Since the store here is new, everything was still pretty organized and easy to find- I scored some goodies that I’ll post on the Fashion page this weekend.

It was a day off from the gym since I teach three classes tomorrow, but I’m a firm believer in shopping as active recovery cardio 😉

Tonight, we were supposed to have friends over for taco night, but when I got home, I crashed pretty hard. After a nap I felt worse, and still didn’t have the groceries or energy needed to make a Mexican feast. I really didn’t want to cancel, so I texted our friends to see if it would be ok if we just ordered pizza and hung out instead.

pizza

Pizza FTW

Still feeling a little *off* –I heard this is pretty common after the test- I just munched a couple of wings and a salad, and enjoyed the fabulous company.

wings

I’m gonna take a hint from Bell and call it a night….

See ya in the morning!

Something to talk about: Do you like to “treasure hunt” when you shop, or walk in, find what you want in your size and go? I have to be in the mood to treasure hunt, but when the mood strikes, I’ll hit up TJ Maxx [and now the Rack] and see what I can find.

Today’s workout jam: “Proud Mary” Glee – LOVE this song for sprints and intervals

Wooo I definitely got my shopping cardio in tonight after feasting on Ruby Tuesday’s salad bar with friends!!! I do a little “treasure hunting” and shopping and going! Depends on the day! And depends on how much weight I’m willing for my wallet to lose…(: I’m a HUGE fan of Forever 21. I find the most deals there!!

  2. Sana on October 15, 2011 at 12:39 am

What a great idea to order pizza. It takes a great women to admit that she just needs a break 🙂

  3. Vanessa @ Swift as Shadows on October 15, 2011 at 12:42 am

I’m definitely a treasure hunter when it comes to shopping, but if the store is too messy or crowded, I’m out of there. =)

  4. mallory on October 15, 2011 at 12:52 am

I hate shopping so much. I never have much luck finding things I am comfortable in. Your dog is adorable! but you already know that :]

I love to treasure hunt in op shops. I’ve found some really good pieces of clothing. I think the best was last year, I picked up a designer skirt (that was current season at the time) which retailed for $500, and got it for $3. It was from a Red Cross op shop, and also managed to score some designer jeans for $2 (which were only a year old) and a pair of vegan boots (not even worn) for $5.

I also like treasure hunting when I do my groceries. I go to three different stores and love seeing what is on special (for fruit and veg) and any new products (such as some vegan food item that is popular in the States and has just arrived in NZ) 🙂

I like to treasure hunt for housewares, dishes, candlesticks, things like that. Things that aren’t “urgent”. But when I need a little black dress or something specific, no treasure hunting. I want to walk in, find my size, find the 3 styles that I think I will like, try them on and bam, outta there. No time for kickin’ tires as my grandma would say 🙂

Those chickpeas…yeah, I can imagine it’s hard to get something like that to stay crunchy. Good thought though. I made cinnamon & sugar ones at home in the oven and they’re easy and crunchy like little ‘peanuts’.

    Have a great weekend!

Hope you feel better soon m’dear! And love shopping as cardio.. 😉 the best kind!

Nordstrom Rack? I’m jealous. We really don’t have a lot of the fun stores major cities have. You’d kind of think I lived in the middle of no where, ha. I had a chickpea wrap yesterday and have found that with chickpeas, I either love them or hate them and it all hinges on the seasonings. But I’ve never tried them dried as a snack. Interesting idea though!

  9. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on October 15, 2011 at 8:23 am

That’s too bad the chickpeas weren’t that great. I bet homemade roasted chickpeas would be delicious though!

Shopping is great active recovery… or if I’m on a shopping mission, I definitely consider it a legit workout. 😉

I like to find what I want and go. 😛 I don’t *clothes* shop often, so when I do, I like to get what I want.

  11. Hillary on October 15, 2011 at 8:41 am

Sometimes TJ Maxx gives me panic attacks (I’m obviously exaggerating, but you get the idea!) I like getting in, finding what I want/need, and bolting!

  12. Emily on October 15, 2011 at 9:01 am

you seriously have THE cutest little pup ever. she seems sassy and i love it!

    • Emily on October 15, 2011 at 9:03 am

oh and i love tjmaxx/marshalls, thats my jam right there. digging for clothes makes them more exciting! not to mention the price cuts, 12 dollars for a yoga top? yes please

  13. Michaela on October 15, 2011 at 9:06 am

    hope ur feeling better!!
I absolutely love treasure hunt! I´m so good at that, especially at TJ Maxx 😀

  14. Suzi @ Confessions of a Fitness Instructor on October 15, 2011 at 9:14 am

Here in Canada we have Winners (which is owned by TJ Max so it’s the same thing), I don’t go there often but when I do it’s normally to look at home wares but I’m stocked to go today and see what I can find! 😀

FYI – My peeps LOVED the GLEE version of proud mary in Zumba, it can be a total killer song, I still use it for Zumba Gold and Zumbatomic classes!

  15. Alycia on October 15, 2011 at 9:24 am

I love the “treasure hunt” part of shopping, but only in an organized type of place. TJ Maxx is wonderful, but I just can’t get in to the thrift stores/vintage stores thing. I would just much rather things be organized and easy to find!

Glad to hear you had a good day though, hope you are feeling better!

  16. Food for Todd on October 15, 2011 at 9:37 am

I wish I was a good treasure hunter! I want so badly to like Forever 21, but all those clothes just stress me out – especially now that baggy looks are in it seems like everything fits my 5’1″ frame funny! I usually end up with clothes from Loft, Express & Down East Basics and jewelry from Forever.

  17. Chelsa on October 15, 2011 at 9:51 am

I’ve been to a few Nordstrom Racks, but really like the one in Aventura Fl the most. It was also new when I was there so maybe that’s why it was really nice. Some times I love a treasure hunt and other times I just like a good department (like bloomies my favorite) store or boutique.

    Your nails look cute!

  18. Army Amy* on October 15, 2011 at 10:03 am

My mom is great at digging through sales racks. I just don’t have the patience!*

  19. Amy on October 15, 2011 at 10:16 am

For me I get in, get what I need and get out. Most of the time I already know exactly what I’m buying. I only go into the store to make sure I get the right sized pants. Once I’m back to my normal size I will just go back to ordering online so I can make sure I get the length I need (36 in inseam here) since it’s not really carried standard where I live. I guess tall females just aren’t supposed to live here.

  20. Natasha on October 15, 2011 at 10:22 am

I’m not big on clothes shopping…so when I do I like to find and get out. But I do like to treasure hunt at goodwill, garage sales, and flee markets….just not for clothes.

  21. Ashley @ The Fit Academic on October 15, 2011 at 10:35 am

I was just at Nortdstrom Rack yesterday, too! I wasn’t a fan though! I went at about 4pm and it was so crowded it was just overwhelming…couldn’t even get down the aisles I wanted to look at stuff! I’ll have to try again in a couple weeks (or middle of a weekday) when the “newness” has worn off a little.

  22. Meghan N on October 15, 2011 at 10:43 am

Eeek that diabetes test sounds less than fun. I can certainly imagine feeling off after that. Hopefully you wake up feeling renewed 🙂 Sometimes chill nights with take out are necessary…and wonderful!
    LOVE your nails, so fun!!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2011 at 3:38 pm

      thank you!

  23. Alexi on October 15, 2011 at 10:52 am

I am the exact same way you are. I have to be in the mood to treasure hunt. Although I do enjoy falling upon those “happy accidents” and finding something I wasn’t looking for.

  24. kathleen @ the daily crumb on October 15, 2011 at 12:55 pm

love, love, LOVE nordstrom rack. you definitely have to be in the mood to dig through the mess, but there are some major diamonds in the rough if you get lucky!

  25. Katie on October 15, 2011 at 12:59 pm

I actually don’t really enjoy any type of shopping. 🙂 I like having nice things, but wish I could just find someone else to do the actual shopping part for me. 🙂

Those wings and salad look so yummy!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2011 at 3:38 pm

      i’ll shop for you! haha

  26. Amanda on October 15, 2011 at 2:08 pm

I wish I could get into being a bargain hunter, but the OCD in me can’t handle when things are out of order, not arranged by size, etc. I need my shopping experience to be organized or I just get frazzled and end up leaving. My mom, on the other hand, can spend hours at goodwill and always finds really cute things.

P.S. Love the picture of Bella! Such a personality. 🙂

  27. Mel @ She Runs Brooklyn on October 15, 2011 at 2:13 pm

Those chick pea snacks are SO easy to make at home, they’re not really worth buying. Literally toss in olive oil and some spices and bake. Donezo. Could be a good recipe experiment 🙂

    I hope you feel better!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2011 at 3:37 pm

maybe i’ll play with that this week!

  28. Violet on October 15, 2011 at 2:18 pm

    Cool! You ate wings!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2011 at 3:36 pm

i did! i had high hopes for them, though, and they were kind of chewy and fatty pieces of chicken :/ looks like b2w is in order

  29. Joie on October 15, 2011 at 2:28 pm

Hi, I have a question. Really really need a structured fitness plan. I don’t have a computer at home, so online workouts are not an option. And I definitely have no spare money for dvd’s. I’m stuck. I have no money for a gym or anything. I don’t know how to assemble a weekly exercise program when all I have is me and my own body and nothing else. I walk, but my area is very high traffic and it is bitter cold. I have little motivation or head-space for yoga and stuff. I’m confused. I hate not having a schedule or routine. Like I want something for monday – sunday that is set and makes me feel accomplished each day. But I don’t want to get bulky calves or be beefy. So confused!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2011 at 3:35 pm

have you seen the bodyrock.tv workouts? those might be a perfect option. i’d watch the workout when you have access to a computer, write it down, and when you get home, play some music and bust it out! some workouts require props, but many can be done with your own body weight

      • Joie on October 16, 2011 at 2:04 pm

But how can I assemble something for a weekly thing? I don’t just want to flail and piece things together day in and out. I want to have a weekly set routine to follow so then I feel accomplished at each day end and each end of week. A weekly plan to follow. But I have no idea how to do that with no money, no memberships, no nothing.

  30. allison on October 15, 2011 at 3:56 pm

what’s the story about those nails!? did you do them yourself? they are SO cute!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Thank you! All the deets are on the fashion page 🙂

  31. kara on October 15, 2011 at 4:08 pm

i typically cannot ever stand hunting for good clothes. i like things to just be there and be easy to find my size and fit well and then leave.
also, whenever i make roasted chickpeas, i only really like them REALLY crunchy and immediately after coming out of the oven. i typically can’t eat them later on cause they always seem stale, you’re right. so it’s weird that they would package them up like that.. can’t imagine any would really be that great.

  32. Molly on October 15, 2011 at 4:27 pm

I’m like you and have to be in the mood for a “treasure hunt” because it really is a lot of work and quite tiring!

  33. Brittany on October 15, 2011 at 5:18 pm

Yum that looks good!! I definitely like to go in, find what I want, and get out. I have to really be in the mood to treasure hunt. Usually I get annoyed with the act of shopping, but I love buying new things!

  34. Roselyn @ A Balanced Fit on October 15, 2011 at 11:05 pm

I love me some Nordstrom Rack!! 🙂

  35. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on October 16, 2011 at 1:09 pm

I LOVE treasure hunting! Its like a sport, and one I can spend all day doing! I wish there was a Nordstrom Rack by me, but at the same time I’m kind of glad there’s not. I’d be a very poor girl! ;p
