Protein fluff

Hey hey hey 😀 Happy Friday!

bell

[Bell says “What up?”]

Anything fun planned this weekend? I work tomorrow, and then have a bridal shower to go to before the football game. Should be a blasty.

After our trip to the madre’s last night, where the Pilot feasted on chicken and waffles, we hung out with the fam, and I was so tired I almost face-planted into my shrimp caesar salad, we came back to the casa and called it a night.

Since I watched everyone else eat waffles last night, I definitely had them on the brain when I woke up.

waffles

Van’s gluten-free waffles topped with protein fluff and a lil maple syrup, munched on the balcony with Bella 🙂

Never made protein fluff before?

Super easy:

1 T almond butter (or any nut butter), half a scoop of protein powder, a little cinnamon, and enough almond milk to thin it out (about 1/8 C or a little more)

fluff

Heat up in the microwave for about 20 seconds, and stir.

fluff (2)

So good on top of waffles, toast, or rolled into a wrap with bananas and berries. Orrrrrr with chocolate chips melted in 🙂

fluff

[That one had sweet potato, too]

Plan for the day:

-Playgroup [a group of friends gets together with their babies to hang out every Friday – my schedule has been conflicting lately, but I can make it today!]

-Weights + cardio <— most likely Schweaty September workout

-Acupuncture (it’s been forever!)

-Finishing the budget + emails + writing a Family post

-Going on a mission for pumpkin

I love that it’s mid-September and pumpkin has already taken over the blogworld. We’re an eager bunch 😉 I’ve been dying for some pumpkin protein oats, so I’m going to see if I can pick up a can of the good stuff at Whole Paycheck after acupuncture.

Are there any foods that you see on blogs that you REALLY don’t like? For me, it’s kale in smoothies. Whenever I see a picture of one, I cringe a little, because kale in smoothies tastes like stinky gym man.

Off to seize the day <3

xoxo

Today’s tip: Take your plank up a notch, by doing the inchworm! Start in a plank position and walk your feet in towards your hands (arms stay straight), so that you body ends up in a V shape. Then walk your hands forward (feet stay put) to bring yourself into a plank position [you’ll be traveling forward if you do more than one]. Lather, rinse, repeat. Make this even more challenging by placing gliding disks or paper plates under your feet. Instead of walking them forward into that V position, slide them forward. Your abbies will love this 😉

Canned pumkin. I’m such a sweat potato girl.

    Kale in smoothies IS stinky.

But for some reason if there is cocoa involved too, it’s really really good!! I got hook on kale + that Vega choc-a-lot last year. Haven’t had it in a while, but can’t do kale without it!

    • Fitnessista on September 16, 2011 at 5:45 pm

hmm good to know! but chocolate makes everything better 🙂

For me, anything with mushrooms in it has me instantly turned off. WHY do people enjoy them? They’re like dirt-flavored sponges <– with a sponge texture. Bleckh.

Also, lately any recipes with meat. Not my bag anymore haha.

      LOL!

Ha! You seriously haven’t had the right kale smoothie. I used to just down the dino kale smoothies, while agreeing with your stinky gym sock taste…but at my farmers marker..they make this kale, blueberry, pineapple, mango smoothie you don’t even taste the kale. I swear. I’m going to re create I think. So good.

I can’t really think of a food that skeeves me to see on blogs. Chicken maybe. Since I was pregnant I got so grossed out by it and I can’t even look at it. When I see a picture of it, see it at the store, and even worse when I have to buy it for Michael I gag.

We must be thinking alike today. My Friday 5 move of the day from this AM is the medicine ball inchworm 😉

Protein fluff….oh I remember this craze from a year or two ago. I’ve made it before. Especially when I was training for my fitness show and was doing more protein powders…it was a good way to make them taste like dessert.

Any foods I don’t like on blogs…Fish with heads on them, bloody meat…not a fan!

  7. Sara K on September 16, 2011 at 4:43 pm

The protein fluff looks pretty good- might have to give it a shot!
For me; I can’t stand cottage cheese or cottage cheese oats/foods/etc…and on that note I’m reallllllly not a fan of oats; I know what a blogger faux pas

  8. Haley @ Fit, Young, and Fabulous on September 16, 2011 at 4:55 pm

I like to spread protein fluff across a whole wheat tortilla and roll it up with apples and more cinnamon! Yummmm (:

I’m not pregnant at the moment, but what exercises should pregnant women stay away from? Ab stuff, I think? What else?

Also, I’m new to this blog…is your gluten free thing just during your pregnancy?

    • Fitnessista on September 16, 2011 at 5:44 pm

after first trimester, any exercises laying on your back or stomach should be avoided. i’m going to do ab exercises until 3rd trimester
nope, i’ve been mostly gluten free for a little over a year 🙂
      welcome to the little blog!

So weights are ok? How about body pump? Thanks!

I gotta say, chia seeds still freak me out a little!

  11. Amanda @ Semi-Health Nut on September 16, 2011 at 6:50 pm

Definitely trying that protein fluff out soonly! Sounds like my kinda breakfast! Also I like the plank idea and will be trying that as well!

Thanks for posting and have a great day! 🙂

Oh the fluff is genious! Im in need of making that (as my mouth waters). Ive been scared of kale in smoothies too. Have fun tomorrow!

  13. Tracy @ Commit To Fit on September 16, 2011 at 7:53 pm

Not a fan on cottage cheese. Not sure why, it just rubs me the wrong way 🙂

  14. Leslie Wingate on September 16, 2011 at 9:13 pm

How freaking genius is this fluff? I always think my almond butter is too stiff and wish it’d be more pour-able without adding more almond butter to it. Almond milk! DUH. I don’t use protein powder so I might have to toss a little cocoa in it. Sad, huh? 😉

  15. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on September 16, 2011 at 9:50 pm

I used to see Vega Vanilla Almondilla shake & go mix everywhere on blogs, but when I tried it I really didn’t like it. It had a weird aftertaste! 😛

I like kale in smoothies though, as long as there is a banana to balance out the bitterness!

  16. Meg on September 16, 2011 at 10:04 pm

Bella is such a cutie xoxo always love the pics of her 🙂

  17. Maria@La_Piattini on September 16, 2011 at 10:29 pm

    Dare I say it….?
I’m not the hugest almond butter fan at all! I know, I know, I’m hanging my head in shame.
I’ve tried it several times, along with sun butter as well, but I still cling to my natural peanut butter! And now that I’ve discovered Peanut Butter & Co and all their different flavors, I don’t see that love going away anytime soon!

  18. Kiah on September 16, 2011 at 11:09 pm

I LOVE kale in my stir fry, and have been meaning to try a kale smoothie with my kefir (yogurt substitute)…but now I’m even a little more afraid 🙂 Do you have another great leafy green you like in smoothies?

    • Fitnessista on September 17, 2011 at 1:22 am

      spinach!

  19. Krystina (Organically Me) on September 17, 2011 at 2:13 am

I tried a protein muffin/cake in a mug and it tasted AWFUL every time. It basically tasted like a flavorless sponge and literally hurt my throat to swallow.

Also, cottage cheese. No matter how many times I eat it, I always abhor it. Whenever I see it in oats, I die a little inside.

  20. Lynn on September 17, 2011 at 9:17 am

I have been wanting to try so many of your recipes with the Sun Warrior protein, but I have never had luck with protein. I buy it and don’t like most of them, so they end up going in the trash. But Sun Warrior on Facebook is giving away free samples, so I just ordered one to be able to try it out!

  21. Lindsey on September 19, 2011 at 5:42 pm

I tried a vegan dessert recipe that was absolutely raved about that had chickpeas in it. I figured it had to be good with so many great reviews. I was so incredibly wrong. It tasted like hummus… the chick pea taste was very strong.

    • Fitnessista on September 19, 2011 at 5:46 pm

that’s why i will never put chickpeas in dessert. they don’t belong there haha

      • Lindsey on September 21, 2011 at 8:28 pm

I totally agree. I have now learned my lesson 🙂

  22. Shelley on September 22, 2011 at 1:57 pm

Love this site! Can Anyone recommend a Good protein drink that tastes pretty good? I have a 16 year old boy that is a major distance runner (XC) and I know he would excel more with a better protein diet. The prob is that he is such a picky eater. Anything with chocolate or peanut butter that tastes half-way good that packs a protein punch?? Appreciate your help!!

What a neat idea for the fluff, I’ve never tried protein powder but I hear Sun Warrior tastes the best.
