Random thanks

Hi friends, hope you’re enjoying the weekend so far. Ours has been pretty glorious. We went out for Mexican last night (enchiladas, rice and beans, oh myyyy) and then watched Pitch Perfect.

If you haven’t seen it: HILarious.

even though I kept waiting for Rebel Wilson to talk about a Mexican drinking worm tattoo 😉

Since I knew this post was going to be a little random, I thought I’d do 5 random things I’m thankful for right now. I’m saying random, because of course I’m thankful for my family, my baby, health, all the good stuff that makes my world go round, but these: just random little extras.

– Mariachis. I’ve always loved mariachi music and needless to say, the apple doesn’t fall far from the Latin-dancing tree. Little Liv was being so patient waiting for dinner at G Grill, and would instantly start clapping and bopping in her high chair every time the mariachis started playing. So, I took her out of her high chair to go see them and I held her hand while she danced (jumped, really) to the entire song. It was amazing.

– Awesome gym childcare. Liv seems to like going, so I was able to get in a daytime workout this week instead of going at night. 45 minutes, and when I went to get her, she was happily playing with baby dolls with the woman who runs the child care and her daughter.

– Home warranties. Our garbage disposal broke and we have a leak upstairs. Yikes.

– Sleeping in on a Saturday. The Pilot woke up with Liv this morning, and I was going to sleep for 10 more minutes… which turned into an hour and a half 😉 It.was.freaking.glorious.

-Beautiful causes. I learned of a cause where an Etsy vendor is generously donated her time and materials to make necklaces and keychains for the teachers at Sandy Hook elementary school. If you purchase a necklace, all proceeds go to the United Way fund for Sandy Hook, and you are sponsoring one necklace (or keychain for the men) to be made and sent to a particular teacher. I love the mission and thought I’d share, as I know many of us were deeply affected by the tragedy. The link is here if you’d like to check it out.

For now, I’m spending my Saturday like I would any Sunday- in my jammies and relaxing with the fam- and am hoping to get in at least one Saturday activity that I usually miss while I’m working (like yoga or one of the farmers markets).

Bfast 1 of 1 5

(2 eggs, chicken and kale with lemon juice, garlic and dijon, brown rice tortilla, coffee)

What are you up to today? What’s on the fitness plan? Any 5 random thanks?

A not-so-random thanks to all of you for your heartfelt and wonderful comments on my last family post. It was a challenging post to write, but I’m glad I did it. Thank you for being so amazing <3

Have a happy Saturday!

xoxo

Gina

Today is a day to be thankful. Three years ago was the Haiti earthquake. Lives changed in 35 seconds for so many. I’m going to be thankful all day for the things I have. What an appropriate post!

Thanks for posting the link to the necklaces for Sandy Hook. It’s so nice of that vendor to do that! I live in the town next to Newtown and there is a 5k happening here in March to benefit the same fund (united way of western ct fund for Sandy Hook.) Just wanted to mention it in case any local readers are interested in running. This is the link: http://www.hartfordmarathon.com/Events/Sandy_Hook_Run_for_the_Families.htm

    thanks! 🙂

I love the idea of coming up with random things to be thankful for. On my fitness plan for the day: going to the gym (which I have already done as of a few hours ago)! I did the elliptical and some free weights.

  18. Kelsey Y. on January 12, 2013 at 5:25 pm

I was hoping to get a run in at my mom’s place in Virginia Beach, but the fog rolled in & the temps dropped! Plus, it just turned dusk on us. Tonight is a night filled with packing and bonding with my mom before flying home to Duluth, MN. I guess sometimes a night off with family is better than trying to cram in that one last workout!

  19. Kim on January 12, 2013 at 5:32 pm

    1. Mindless TV on the DVR
    2. Warm, cuddly blankets
    3. An afternoon to relax and enjoy the first 2!!!

Great reminder to be thankful for the little things!!!

  20. Abby on January 12, 2013 at 6:41 pm

I’m also so grateful for awesome gym child care! I took my daughter to the one at our rec center for the first time the other day and was certain she would cry or at least get upset since she’s never been to any type of day care before, but she loved it! I even snuck back to peek in on her in the middle of my workout and there she was having a blast with the other toddlers.
The gym we had been going to before offered chid care but it was always super crowded, so I was always too hesitant to use it. Needless to say I bought a membership before we left and can’t wait to go back!

  21. Kristen on January 12, 2013 at 7:15 pm

I’m sure the band and others loved watching Liv enjoying the music:)

Hmm. 5 random things I’m thankful for:
    1. Dry shampoo
    2. Candles
    3. When the radio dj reads my mind and plays exactly what I want to hear!
    4. Concealer
    5. When I open the dishwasher and find that my hubby already unloaded it!!!

  22. Adriana on January 12, 2013 at 8:54 pm

Thanks for the etsy link; it’s a super cute necklace!

You should check out Sevenly, if you haven’t already heard of it. It’s a for profit company that sells shirts/hoodies. They have a different design each week which only sells that week. They choose a different charity each week, and $7 from each purchase goes to the charity. They showcase some great charities and the shirts are cute! Here’s the link: https://www.sevenly.org/

  23. Michelle on January 12, 2013 at 9:28 pm

We also went to an amazing Mexican place last night with a 10-person mariachi band. It was my first real mariachi experience, complete with this incredible costume-clad dancing couple. One of the best parts of living in L.A. is all the authentic Mexican food! I hope you had some when you were here 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 12, 2013 at 11:52 pm

LOVE that! tucson has some amazing mexican too 🙂

I’m thankful for the crazy warm January weather that allowed me to go for an hour long bike ride outside in just a sweater yesterday! It felt amazing to get outside for a workout again.
