Raw Arrabiata sauce and an evil deed

Hey everyone! How’s your day goin? Mine has been bueno 😀

I started it off with the best kind of sludge… because it was PINK!

001

1 banana, 1 saturn peach, 1/3 bag frozen organic strawberries, 1 carton of O.N.E coconut water, 1 scoop Vega smoothie infusion (I’m obsessed), a date, 1/2 avocado, sea salt, vanilla, Stevia and cinnamon.

Since Megan has been so sweet to make smoothies for me lately, I left her a cup of the sludge in the fridge for her to try 😀

I walked the puppers for about 40 minutes, and then came back for my favorite Larabar:

002

I went to the gym to make phone calls and for a training appointment (my smoking client has cut back her cig intake to HALF already! *cheers* I’m so proud of her) and then came back to the casa for lunch.

A delicious baby salad beast with spinach, bell pepper, tomato, cucumber, flax oil, raw apple cider vinegar, sea salt, pepper and nutritional yeast

005

I LOVE nutritional yeast. The slightly salty, cheezy flavor does me in 😀

And spiralized zucchini pasta with a raw arrabiata sauce:

003

This was DELICIOUS!! Basically I threw some random stuff in the Vitamix yesterday and left it in the fridge for a day so the flavors could meld a little.

Here’s the recipe:

Raw Arrabiata Sauce

-1 beefsteak tomato

-6 soaked sundried tomatoes

-1 soaked chipotle chili (if you’re not a spicy fanatic like yours truly, opt for half or a third because this stuff was SPICY!)

-1/3 small sweet onion

-handful fresh basil

-lemon juice

-a sprinkle each of chili powder, sea salt, oregano and pepper

It was soooooo good, but my mouth was on FIRE… just the way I like it 😀
After my feast, I set out to do something I haven’t done in way too long:

MAKE MACAROONS!!!

Blonde:

007

I got two full trays worth:

008

Chocolate:

010

And chocolate almond butter stuffed macaroons >:)

011

Raw. Vegan. 100% evil.

012

Foodgasm, right there 😀

That is one happy dehydrator:

013

After his super insane work week, a certain someone got to come home early!

015

Tonight is date night and I think we might do something that we’ve never done in the (almost) four years we’ve known each other: make dinner together!

Usually the pilot does the dishes and cleans the kitchen and I cook, but I was thinking it would be fun if we made a meal together. We shall see. Who does the cooking in your casa? Do you cook and your sig other does the dishes like over here, or the other way around, or do you switch off?? Or go out to eat instead? 😀

Well I’m off to clean a little, hit up the gym for weights with Jeni, train a client and the back to chill with the pilot and puppies. I’ll see you after dinner!

xoxo,

Gina

Sadly we eat out a bit too often. We tend to take turns though with cooking and cleaning.

My husband and I have actually started a new tradition, instead of going out on Friday nights, which we do way too often anyway, we've started eating in and cooking together and trying new dishes and new wines. It's so much more fun than going out. And last week I actually got him to have a candle light "picnic" dinner with me in the living room! So fun!

I seriously want to buy a dehydrator JUST for macaroons! Gahh! My boy is my "sous chef" and head dishwasher, and I'm the exec chef and dryer/putter-upper, haha. So we cook together (sorta…) almost everynight! It's fun, and usually extremely entertaining in a teensy college apartment.

  5. fittingbackin on July 23, 2009 at 3:49 pm

your salad looks yum!! Thanks for the sauce recipe!!

I typically cook and he cleans/helps me prep/etc. OR he just does it all before I get home. 🙂 Love when that happens!

  6. VeggieGirl on July 23, 2009 at 3:55 pm

You did NOT stuff those macaroons… oh my goodness, you're evil, haha – I want some, please!! 😀

    Aww, enjoy date night!!

  7. Stephanie on July 23, 2009 at 3:57 pm

Those macaroons look ah-mazing! Wish I was eating one right now. I do most of the cooking. My husband will help me, but he's been out of town a lot lately so when we are home we've been eating out more so we can spend more time together. We definitely need to get back in the kitchen together, because he does enjoy it.

I am in love with your macaroons. I need one right now! 😀

  9. The Rest is Still Unwritten on July 23, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Um, I do both…Husband works too much I feel bad for making him cook or clean. Although, I refuse to do anything outside the house or take out the trash. Or fix things. Or pay bills. I'd say we're even!

    That zuccini pasta looks delish!

  10. Dori on July 23, 2009 at 4:03 pm

My boy and I usually order in or go out to eat. Sometimes I cook breakfast, but that is about it. He doesn't cook at ALL.

I'll need to start getting better at cooking because I want to make real, delicious, healthy meals for my future kids!

  11. Anonymous on July 23, 2009 at 4:07 pm

looks delish..was wondering what dehydrator and spiralizer you use

  12. Mandy on July 23, 2009 at 4:12 pm

Honestly, neither of us have cooked in MONTHS… we have got to get back into a routine!

But the hubby and I usually make a good team cooking together! We enjoy it! He's a better cook than I am, though 🙂

  13. Erica on July 23, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Awww congrats to your client! That is super awesome that she has cut back so much already!!! Tell her we're all cheering her on (if she knows about the blog ;)). That arrabiata sounds so good! I love tomatoes so any recipe that calls for two different kinds is a winner for me 🙂 Have fun tonight with the pilot

  14. Menden @ Skinny Menny on July 23, 2009 at 4:38 pm

My man and I both love to cook, but we don't usually cook together because we get into each other's way in the kitchen, haha! And we both clean up.

    p.s. those macaroons?! omg.

  15. Jeri on July 23, 2009 at 4:54 pm

my favorite nights with the boy are when we cook together. usually a tif will ensue because my kitchen is SMALL but it's still fun. 🙂

    Hi Gina!

    Just a question…

How long and at what temp do you dehydrate your macaroons?

I can't seem to get the ideal texture for mine!

    Thanks so much!

  18. eatingbirdfood on July 23, 2009 at 5:31 pm

All of your raw eats look delicious!

Isaac and I are funny. We buy separate groceries. If I cook dinner but he cooks for himself a lot as well. We cook together sometimes as well. It's fun!

One nice thing is that he is good about doing the dishes because we don't have a dishwasher!!

MACAROONS!! I made some recently and have them in the freezer. Everyone who's tried them has LOVED them! Might just have to get one out tonight.

  19. Sarah (LovIN My Tummy) on July 23, 2009 at 5:57 pm

    Scrumpsh. Everything. Shlurp.

My Pilot NEVER cooks anything. While I've been sick, its been all PB&J all the time. My poor babies, mama's back.

    Have fun tonight!

  20. justine on July 23, 2009 at 6:02 pm

haha. I do everything!! Well Id say I do about 98% of the time. Your pasta looks great and I am diggin the pick sludge. Quick question, are you following the food combining rules at all?

I tend to do the cooking (or uncooking) and my bf does the clean up. I am such a messy cook and hate the clean up afterwards so it works out well. He makes a good pizza though and claims he CAN cook. I just never let him in MY kitchen hehe.

    😀

  22. shelby on July 23, 2009 at 6:49 pm

I love nooch too! Its so cheesy, nutty, and just yum!

So I need those macaroons…send them to me ASAP! 😉

  23. traveleatlove on July 23, 2009 at 7:30 pm

I do the cooking most of the time and the hub does the cleaning. Cooking together when we have more time is fun though!

  24. Ada on July 23, 2009 at 7:43 pm

Arriabata sauce and chocolate almond butter stuffed macaroons??? Holy yum!!!

  25. calquist on July 23, 2009 at 8:35 pm

Off topic, but I just signed up for the Disney Princess Half Marathon! I saw your post about it and thought it would be fun for my first half! Are you planning on doing it again?

  26. MandyKat on July 23, 2009 at 11:12 pm

I usually cook the meals, and my husband cleans in theory. Every Wednesday he cooks. I place a recipe and basic ingredients on the counter for him. It's the only way I could encourage him to get involved. This routine has avoided conflict since we both work F/T.
Also, I will not cook separate dishes for him, even on the vegetarian/vegan meal nights. He'll just drink a huge protein shake or make himself a meat dish. When I was vegetarian, I would not handle his meats at all, and I made him use separate cookware. Do you also follow similar rules? Your husband is fortunate to have such a good cook for a spouse! I'm fortunate that my husband will eat ANYTHING smothered with ketchup.

  27. roseyrebecca on July 23, 2009 at 11:21 pm

I'm a complete control freak in the kitchen so I usually cook and my boyfriend does the dishes. Sometimes he helps cook too! (if I let him!)

  28. Jessica on July 24, 2009 at 2:33 am

My boyfriend can't even prepare packaged/frozen foods so I sometimes cook for him but we don't really eat on the same schedule so usually he has to fend for himself. We also don't eat remotely the same things (he's all meat, no veggies) and I don't have time to cook two meals – I wish I could do it the way you do. I've actually been contemplating getting a slow cooker so I can make his meals the way you do for the Pilot.

I also do most of the cleaning, but I figure it's only fair since I'm usually the one making a mess and using every pot and pan in the house. I suppose I should make him clean the microwave, though 😉

  29. Leah @ Simply Fabulous on July 24, 2009 at 3:01 am

    Loving all the raw eats!!

In our house we both cook, but once in a while i'll take it upon myself to do the deed. We enjoy cooking together because it gives us a chance to catch up after our day.

Then later in the evening, hubby-to-be will usually do the washing up while I make his lunch for the next day. We've got a good balance 🙂

  30. Krista on July 24, 2009 at 9:10 am

The "rule" in our house is that one of us cooks, the other does dishes. Usually I do the cooking, cuz I hate dishes!!! 🙂

  31. Kara on July 24, 2009 at 10:13 am

My husband NEVER cooks! After I cook, I give him the choice of doing the dishes or taking the dog out (and picking up her poo!). Depending on how many pots and pans I used, he almost always picks the dishes! It works out since dog poo grosses him out and I hate doing dishes!

When my husband cooks for me (when I'm sick or something), it involves a pizza delivery guy 🙂

  32. Diana on July 24, 2009 at 10:54 am

COMPLETELY EVIL! You are not kidding! I cannot even begin to imagine the foodgasm those AB stuffed macaroons would cause!

    Have a fab weekend!

  33. ElleMigliore on July 24, 2009 at 5:53 pm

I keep seeing the macaroons in your posts and wondering if you posted a recipe for them??? I so want to give them a shot!

  34. Jocelyn on July 28, 2009 at 7:02 am

when I am with my boyfriend..he usually cooks the meat if there is meat involved (and I usualy don't eat it lol) and I'll cook everything else and do the baking 😉 He also cleans up for me! love it! lol

by the way those almond butter stuffed macs look…TO DIE FOR
