Rocking the Do-Agains

Hi friends 🙂 How’s your day going? Mine has been muy bueno 🙂

I’m rocking the “do-agains” for dinner:

squash

I loathe the word “leftovers”- it sounds so foul. “Do-agains” is much nicer 🙂 In my opinion, leftover food tastes way better the next day anyway 😉

My trough of food I brought to work included greens, stuffed b-nut squash (from last night-I brought Ashley some too), half a bag of organic carrots, organic grape tomatoes, Sabra garlic hummus.

squash (2)

So. Insanely. Good.

Earlier today, I hit up the mall for my last chance to get black boots before Foodbuzz (we have a winner! Thank you, Aldo) and to my utter delight, CHRISTMAS WAS AT THE MALL!

Already!

No snowmen in sight (yet), but I was still very happy 🙂

After shoe mission 2010, I stopped at Petco to get some new food for the puppers. The new food I had gotten them didn’t agree with their stomachs (which is why Bella got so sick) and the brand we used before isn’t made anymore. The people working at Petco spoke really highly of this stuff:

IMG00435-20101101-1258

So hopefully little Bella likes it 🙂 For now she’s still having boiled chicken and rice, but she’s feeling much betterbella

Out-the-door snackage:

yogurt

Plain goat’s milk yogurt with Sun Warrior, cinnamon and blueberries

My lunch break is over, so I’ve gotta peace out. See ya tomorrow with favorite fall recipes 🙂

Have a great night <3

xoxo

Gina

YES. I started listening to Christmas music this morning and can’t wait to find a little tree for my apartment. I totally agree with you- never too early for Christmas decorations!!

  2. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on November 1, 2010 at 6:37 pm

I LOVE the first time I walk into the mall or go into the city and it’s decorated for Christmas! I got excited today just for Nov 1st because it starts the season!

  3. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on November 1, 2010 at 6:42 pm

I’ve been listening to Christmas music for 2 weeks already… !

  4. Jennifer on November 1, 2010 at 6:46 pm

OMG! lol Did you really put your tree up already? I haven’t even taken down my Halloween decorations yet!

    • Fitnessista on November 1, 2010 at 8:40 pm

haha no it’s from last year 🙂

  5. alicia on November 1, 2010 at 6:55 pm

Our family decorates our tree on Thanksgiving evening. I love it! I can’t wait till the all Christmas music station starts!

  6. Laura (On the Threshold of Greatness) on November 1, 2010 at 7:11 pm

The Blue food is great! I hope the pups love it! My mom’s cat is diabetic and he has been doing fabulously on the stuff.

LOVE Christmas! I can’t wait to put my tree up. I leave for a cruise Nov. 19 so I have to decide if I should put it up way early, or just wait until I get back. I’ll be flying into Orlando for the cruise. Too bad I won’t be there long enough to do anything!

  7. Whitney @ Whitinspired on November 1, 2010 at 7:15 pm

I totally agree. The hubs has to talk me out of putting up decorations on Thanksgiving every year 🙂

  8. Allison @ thesundayflog on November 1, 2010 at 7:17 pm

I saw NEVER! nevereverevereverever. I would play Xmas music all year long is my coworkers let me!

  9. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on November 1, 2010 at 7:18 pm

I’m so happy you found your boots! I bet you felt very satisfied after – I always do after a long shopping hunt! I think Christmas decor is appropriate around mid-November… maybe a little early for you guys in the US since you still have Thanksgiving to get past, but we get it out of the way in October up here so after Halloween, it’s Christmas season!!

  10. Samantha on November 1, 2010 at 7:20 pm

You might double check your bags of Blue Buffalo and make sure they weren’t included in the recall. Most likely, Petco would’ve yanked them from their shelves a few weeks ago but never hurts to be safe. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on November 1, 2010 at 8:39 pm

thank you i will check for sure

  11. holly @ couchpotatoathlete on November 1, 2010 at 7:25 pm

I love Christmas — but I try to hold off on decorations until after Thanksgiving. I’m hoping that is a picture of a Christmas tree from years ago — or do you have yours up already? 🙂

    • Fitnessista on November 1, 2010 at 8:38 pm

hahah no it’s from last year!

  12. lindsey on November 1, 2010 at 7:37 pm

I love Christmas…but I totally hate the mall this time of year. I can’t wait until Black Friday — I looooooooooooooooove that day!

  13. fittingbackin on November 1, 2010 at 8:05 pm

I’m SURE she’ll like it! I hope to get my tree up earlier this year so I can enjoy it longer. I want to put it up during T-giving holidays!!

  14. brittany on November 1, 2010 at 8:11 pm

I just did the weights portion of the new bridal boot camp! I sweated a ton and already feel stronger!! How often do you recommend increasing weights? For instance, I can do 10 reps of 5 lb weights pretty easily but 15 reps of the same weight leaves me sore the next day.
Thanks for all the incredible boot camp challenges!!

  15. Chris on November 1, 2010 at 8:13 pm

Its the most wonderful time of the year! We start Christmas music today and I set up my lit winter village on the mantel. The decorations go up the day after Thanksgiving!

  16. Michelle (The Runner's Plate) on November 1, 2010 at 8:24 pm

As much as I love Christmas, the rule in our family growing up was that Christmas decorations waited until after Thanksgiving, so I’ve stuck with my roots.

  17. Kat on November 1, 2010 at 8:30 pm

I hope Bella is feeling better soon and that your pups take to the new food. You probably already know this, but I didn’t, so I’m passing it along! When I changed foods for my Golden, I just switched right over. Uh, not pretty. My vet said I should have started switching over the new food gradually – over the course of a week or so, slowly introducing a bit more of the new food, and cutting back on the old. Hope it helps! Love your blog, btw. Thanks!

  18. Alicia on November 1, 2010 at 8:33 pm

    Gina,
Have you ever considered feeding your babies raw food? I used to feed my bulldog Lola Orijen Regional Red, which has stellar stats, but we transitioned to raw 3 months ago. Stella and Chewy’s and Primal (organic) are quality brands. Lola has never been healthier, and raw food is so easy for dogs to digest.

    Fellow puppy mama,
    Alicia

it is NEVER too early for Christmas decor! i can’t wait to bust mine out.. seriously!

  20. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on November 1, 2010 at 8:43 pm

Here’s my thought: christmas and hanukkah go hand in hand, right? Well, Hanukkah starts December 1 this year. Christmas MUST be in full swing by then!

  21. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on November 1, 2010 at 8:49 pm

I say it’s never too early for Christmas decorations, either!! When we first moved to Los Angeles, we were SO EXCITED to hear Christmas music already playing on the radio– as we drove home from the Halloween parade! Ever since, we’ve started listening to Christmas music on November 1st. 😀

Probably won’t decorate until Thanksgiving weekend, though…

I’m always on the lookout for better food for my pup, too! She seems to be doing well with the “Wellness” line of food so far (gluten-free & corn-free), but I’d love to hear how Bella likes her new food!

  22. Mellissa on November 1, 2010 at 8:50 pm

We use Fromm’s for our dog and it is the best food we have found for his stomach, its all natural and has real ingredients. Although sometimes the best option is to cook for them, you can control the quality of the ingredients and the freshness.

  23. Heather (Heather's Dish) on November 1, 2010 at 9:12 pm

i was staring longingly at my Christmas CD this morning…i always try to hold off til Thanksgiving if i can, but let’s be honest: that never happens 😉

  24. Courtney on November 1, 2010 at 9:14 pm

Blue Buffalo is great! Sign up at there site and they will send you a $5.00 coupon. We only use Blue Buffalo stuff for our dog. It gets pricy but I’d rather not pick up dog throw up. lol

Glad you found your boots. I’m on the hunt for fabulous, casual black flats right now. So far, no dice. It’s frustrating.

I agree. It’s never too early for Christmas decorations!

  28. Sabrina on November 1, 2010 at 9:30 pm

PB and I made plans to put our tree up the Saturday morning after Thanksgiving. PB is going to make french toast while I organize and clean the decorations and then we are going to put them up together yay!!

  29. Kathryn on November 1, 2010 at 9:42 pm

We use blue buffalo and love it!! Hope it agrees with Bella!

  30. Clare @ Fitting It All In on November 1, 2010 at 9:44 pm

I love Christmas decorations and music any time!! Why wait to celebrate? And are people going to get upset when they are out early EVERY SINGLE YEAR? Doesn’t anyone see it coming??

  31. Laura on November 1, 2010 at 9:45 pm

Have to ever thought about making homemade dog food? I started about two years ago, my dog would get sick a lot and sometimes not even eat for days. Ever since I started making homemade dog food he’s been much healthier, it’s a noticeable difference. I read “Pet Food Nation” when I first started and have read several other books since. I promise it isn’t as time consuming as it might sound!

  32. Cara Craves... on November 1, 2010 at 9:52 pm

How is it Christmas in your malls already?
America still has not had its Thanksgiving!
I love Christmas too bits, but I think it’s a bit too early.

  33. Shanna, Like Banana on November 1, 2010 at 9:53 pm

Petco and PetSmart both push that dog food really really hard because they get a kick-back so don’t be too shocked if it doesn’t work out, but I hope it does for the puppers sake =)

    • Fitnessista on November 1, 2010 at 10:33 pm

hahah and they told me not to buy science diet because the vets get a kickback. why does there have to be politics in everything??

  34. Kelly @ Kelly Be Well on November 1, 2010 at 9:59 pm

We tried that brand on our pup but she wouldn’t eat it…if you get stuck again, try Wellness. They make several varieties, and both Petco and Petsmart sell it. It’s a no-corn food, meat based, etc…and our pup loves it. $30/15 lb bag

  35. Erica on November 1, 2010 at 10:22 pm

    Hi 🙂
We feed Muffin, my havanesse poddle that exact same blue buffalo food and she is very healthy….Every now and then she picks the “life source” bits out and spits them on the kitchen rug! Apparently she isn’t all about the healthy food.
Oh and if you go to the blue buffalo website you can get a five dollar off coupon.

  36. natalie @ http://healthybalancingact.blogspot.com/ on November 1, 2010 at 10:33 pm

i work in a supermarket and we had christmas decorations at the start of october…thats alittle early i think but i am one of those people who have already bought my cards and decor becuase the good ones sell out so quick 🙂

  38. Anna S. on November 1, 2010 at 11:00 pm

I had to switch my cats’ food recently.

I think before Thanksgiving is too early for decorations! But obviously stores need them up earlier.

    • Fitnessista on November 2, 2010 at 7:58 am

      ok i will 🙂

  40. Carlee on November 1, 2010 at 11:38 pm

We only feed our dogs Blue Buffalo brand and they love it. If you take a look at the ingredients you can see exactly what your dogs are eating. And there is not much filler – all good stuff. I think so many people take the time to read ingredients lists in their own foods but then buy cheap food for their dogs. No fair. They deserve to eat the same high quality diet that we do. Good choice.

  41. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on November 1, 2010 at 11:55 pm

I was just in Aldo the other day! I want to buy their shoes…so badly. But my feet are too big. Their biggest size is a women’s 11. And I am one size bigger than that. Guess big feet come with the territory b/c I’m 5’10″+ but sigh…I want their shoes! I even tried to squeeze into a couple 11’s, but no go. I felt like Cinderella’s step sisters trying to squeeze into the glass slipper..haha!

Glad you found shoes, and puppy food, and Xmas decorations. I just posted about seeing Xmas stuff in early Oct. I think that’s too early but I guess anytime after Nov 1 is fair game 🙂

  42. Christin L. on November 2, 2010 at 1:02 am

I am one of those folks who prefers for Christmas stuff to wait until after Thanksgiving… but only because Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday EVAR! And I will admit I’m not a huge fan of Christmas music either. *ducks from thrown tomatoes* 🙂

Ok, I am finally “de-lurking” after reading about Bella ( also my 8yr human child’s name, ha!). Last Thanksgiving, our 3 yr old cat Jack, became violently ill, from nothing. He started to show neurological symptoms, then went into full blown liver failure. The vet @ Petsmart ( 1st mistake) couldnt figure out what was wrong with him and wanted to run a ton of test. We were feeding him and our other cat ( a bit more “full figured”) NUTRO brand cat food, as we were told “it’s great”, ummm, not so much. Anyways, remember last year when NUTRO cat/ dog food was recalled? Well, our Petsmart didnt get all the bags off the shelf. So me, being the lucky winner that day, grabbed 2 recalled bags ( 6 months after the recall) and started to feed to both cats.

Long story short, he was not given much of a chance to live. We switched vets, and my husband finally pieced together the food. I checked the UPC labels and guess what, we were giving our cats the recalled cat food. I was hysterical knowing we had been giving our cats tainted food. We had to cancel our Thanksgiving trip to Maui, I had to do IV infusions @ home every 3 hrs for a months and force feed him every 2 hrs for a month! We had the food independ tested and the metals we so off, which is what led to the liver failure. I saw the Blue Buffalo was re-called on my recent trip to Petsmart. We also have 2 dogs ( labs). After all this happened, I researched every type of food. Our favorite for all the pets is HALO, which Whole Foods sells. Clean, pure food. Our kitty, Jack took to the food and with it gained all his weight back. All of their coats are shiny, and they are all healthy. None of them has ever become sick from it. Sorry to go on, but when I read about Bella and the food, alarms went off. Hope she feels better soon. I also gave Jack (cat) milk thistle to help him mend, it worked!

    • Fitnessista on November 2, 2010 at 7:57 am

      hey girl,
thanks so much for saying hi and for letting me know! recalled food scares the bejeezus out of me. so glad you were able to figure out what was going on and save your kitty
i’ll look into the halo brand next time i’m at whole foods

    • Erica on November 3, 2010 at 3:45 am

Recall-The blue buffalo was recalled in early October…It was a voluntary recall because a few types of their dog food was produced with slightly high levels of vitamin D. I looked into this alot and talked to petsmart as well as my vet because I feed my dog Blue buffalo.

In the end the small breed food they produce was never affected and my vet told me I had nothing to worry about.

I hope your dogs are doing well 🙂

I have to take it one holiday at a time and enjoy each holiday! now that halloween’s over, i’m so looking forward to thanksgiving grub and family time, then after that, it’s xmas!!! after thanksgiving is when i like to put up xmas decor. i do get sad when it’s time to take them down, that’s when i wish it was xmas all year long!

  45. erin on November 2, 2010 at 7:40 am

i agree, it’s never too early for christmas decorations! i need to take my halloween stuff down and i kind of want to just replace it with christmas.

don’t forget to switch the dogs’ food gradually. you have to slowly mix it in with what they ate previously or else they’ll get sick.

    • Fitnessista on November 2, 2010 at 7:55 am

definitely learned that one the hard way- thanks!
