Shake it like a…

Hi! Happy Monday!

YOU GUYS.

I finally did it.

Shakeology 1 of 1

I went ahead and ordered Shakeology… and P90X3 to go along with it.

After trying Shakeology a couple of weeks ago, I couldn’t stop thinking about the Vegan Chocolate. While I prefer to get my nutrients from whole foods for the most part, I’m pretty passionate about protein powder. I love to discover options with awesome taste + even better ingredients. Here are a few that I’ve rotated between:

1) Sun Warrior. This is a smooth vegan version (brown rice protein) with simple ingredients.

2) Vega. A vegan option (plant-based protein mix) with even better ingredients, but kind of tastes like biting into a tree, so I used it more rarely. (If you mix it with other ingredients, the taste is much better)

3) Raw Fit. A less expensive variation of Sun Warrior. It’s a little chalkier, but the taste’s great when you mix it into cookie dough cereal or a smoothie.

And now, Shakeology aka the only protein powder I want to drink with almond milk alone. It tastes like a luscious chocolatey shake and has a nutrient boost from a variety of superfoods.

I had it for a couple of days, thanks to some samples my friend Elizabeth sent to me, and noticed an increase in my energy and satiety levels. The snack monster didn’t barge in the door at 3pm per the usual, and I was shocked by the awesome taste. (For the record, I also tried the tropical Strawberry Vegan flavor and was not a fan. It tasted like tropical death.) The only thing holding me back from purchasing the chocolate vegan was the price (it’s $$ and I can get Raw Fit at the BX for $20).

Since falling in love with the Beachbody workouts, (I’ve done Insanity and TurboFire) I’ve received hundreds of emails and messages from Beachbody friends asking me to become a coach. I decided to go for it, but it’s not my intent to sell Beachbody products on this site at this time, which is why there’s no link. If you have questions about any of the Beachbody products, talk to my friend Elizabeth; she’s the pro 🙂

Now that we got that out of the way, P90X3!!!! AHHHHH! I can’t wait!

Tony 1 of 1

(Tony Horton: BEAST with some cheesyamazing one-liners. I’m excited to take his classes at IDEA this week!)

The Pilot has been wanting to try it, so I picked it up as something we could do together since we had a blast with the Insanity workouts. For now I’m cleared to resume normal workouts/life, modifying as needed, but have an appointment with a hand surgeon. If I partially cut a nerve, it will eventually repair on its own, but if it’s fully severed, I’ll need to have it repaired.

Have you tried any of the Beachbody workouts?

What about Shakeology? Fave protein powder (or protein-dense food)??

xoxo

Gina

I have never heard of the Beach Body programs. That’s a new one for me. My go-to protein powder is Sunwarrior Classic.

Oooh, PiYo looks awesome! I would love to hear more reviews to see if it’s worth the money!

    • Carolyn on August 11, 2014 at 9:01 pm

PiYo is amazing, I’m a certified live format instructor and do the home program. It’s incredible how much my flexibility and strength has improved since I started doing it daily.

I did the P90X classic program one summer and loved it! I was in the best shape ever, and there was enough variety in the workouts for me to keep from getting bored throughout all thirteen weeks, which is impressive! I’ve heard P90X3 is really good – have fun 🙂

Awesome news! I think you’d be an excellent beach body coach! I really like the beach body programs and how much testing goes into them. it makes you feel confident in what you are signing up for. Are you going to follow the nutrition plan as well? What schedule will you do? I am just finishing p90x3, classic schedule, elite block. Overall I think it’s an excellent program. My only complaint is the repetitiveness of some of the workouts by block 3 I was very bored of some and wished other workouts repeated more, like the warrior. Block 1 was my favorite by far. I’m thinking about trying Focus T25, though I don’t want to loose my muscle gains from X3 as I heard weights are not introduced until the Beta Phase so I was thinking about mixing in your summer shape up with t25, just not sure the best days for that?

Hoping your appointment proves to be good news!

so excited you got p90x3! i did the p90x program and loved it and am curious to see how you like the p90x3 tapes as i just ordered them as well!

I just got the PIYO dvd’s. I haven’t started yet, but plan to soon. I have done the Turbo Jam and Turbo Fire workouts and I loved them.

I’m really interested in the Beachbody workouts and am thinking of picking up a couple for when it starts to get cold around here – seems like pretty legit in terms of workouts that you can do at home. I’m really interested in hearing your take on the new ones.

I have to say that I’ve had to stop following/reading every blog or facebook friend that has become a Beachbody coach though. All their posts are SOOOO spammy and sort of weird and cult-ish. They have these weird methods of inspiring people that I actually find really negative and weird, though I’m not sure if that’s Beachbody or individual coaches doing that. Anyway, I just hope you’ve done your research and that this blog won’t have much Beachbody-sponsored content on it. It’s one of the things that has actually prevented me from buying the workouts so far, I just don’t want to deal with the “coaches” at all.

    • Fitnessista on August 12, 2014 at 10:35 am

i totally agree, and that’s what turned me off about it in the first place. at this time, you guys won’t see me selling the beach body products on this site. i just wanted to let you guys know i am a coach now, so that you all know that when i review the DVD, which i bought with my own money. (and i have to say, the first workout didn’t impress me)

      • jean on August 14, 2014 at 12:24 pm

I’ve heard lots of good things about T25 – maybe that would be a better choice. Once I finish the 21 Day Fix I’m going to jump into PiYo.

  10. Fran on August 12, 2014 at 11:02 am

I LOVE Chalene Johnson’s Beach Body workouts! Started with Turbo Jam and just received PiYo a few days ago. Motivating without being too “perky”, just like a certain blogger I read…. 🙂

Had a significant tummy issue with Shakeology, although I will agree that is is tasty and the ingredients are pretty stellar. I was sort of disappointed I couldn’t continue taking it since my schedule this fall is going to be crazy and it would be very convenient.

I’m glad to read about the suggestions for protein powders since I will be concocting my own shakes to head out the door with!

    Thanks!

I love sun warrior too. 🙂 Raw life is okay. Vega..I do like the choco smoothie and the vanilla. The vanilla chai is okay, but must not be my fav bc I have had it a long time and usually want to go with vanilla or chocolate and add my own flavors, mix-ins.

I also just got Healthy Skoop and I love it. Super tasty! Also recently tried About Time vegan and that is okay.

And now I realize that I have a protein powder problem. Who the heck tries this many? ha

  12. Jackie on August 12, 2014 at 4:23 pm

So, is it worth the extra $$? Do you use it only as an occasional meal replacement or are you finding yourself having a “chocolate shake” every day……I guess I worry that it will be too good and I will loose my focus on more “real” food.

    • Fitnessista on August 12, 2014 at 8:08 pm

i’ve been having it every day, but mostly as a snack or part of a meal. i don’t think it could be a total meal replacement… i like food too much, even though the shake is delicious 🙂

    • Heather D. on August 13, 2014 at 1:52 am

Jackie! It is FOR SURE worth the money. I was VERY skeptical, but am now a huge believer. It’s very chocolatey and you can use just half a scoop if need be. That’s what I do. I also add in ice, almond milk, 1/2 a banana and a tbsp or PB2. It’s become an addiction. I usually drink it for lunch and then have a small snack a couple hours later. My energy level, attitude, and skin have all changed for the better. Here’s my link if you want to check it out. We have a 7 day challenge starting soon for only $40 for a 1 week supply. We’d love to have you!

I really want to try Shakeology, but $40 for 1 week? So…nearly $6 per shake?!?!? And that doesn’t include the cost of the almond milk I would add to it.

        • sally mae on August 13, 2014 at 4:40 pm

I totally agree! I would LOVE to try Shakeology, but definitely not for $40 for 1 week. Is there any other sample packs?

  13. Tracey on August 13, 2014 at 9:53 am

Gina, where can I get a sample to try?

    • Fitnessista on August 13, 2014 at 11:46 pm

i’m not sure! (<-- things i should know) maybe ask elizabeth (via the link)?

      • Tracey on August 14, 2014 at 8:00 am

        Ok, I emailed them..thanks!

Good luck with your new health adventures!

I know a couple people who have enjoyed the Beach Body workouts. I do love the lean cardio benefits of Insanity.

Because of their no compromising policy concerning ingredients, I use Isagenix products and love them. I have never seen results before and after my workouts than I have had with this. (Plus safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. So amazing not to give up my health during those times!)

  15. Robin on August 15, 2014 at 12:10 pm

    Hi Fitnessista,
I love your blog, I have been following it for awhile. I am a beachbody coach like your friend Elizabeth, and I love P90X3…I also did it with my husband, he loved it too. Shakeology is amazing, I love it for the same reasons you do, it curbs cravings! We are currently doing Chalene Johnson’s PiYo, and it is wonderful as well. I believe that Chalene was supposed to be filling in for Tony at IDEA, for the workout. Enjoy!

  16. Sarah Anne on August 20, 2014 at 8:42 pm

I have been doing Beachbody workouts for…almoat a decade. I started w/ p90x, then TurboFire and Body Beast. I recently did the 21 Day Fix (loved it) and have just bought PiYo. I haven’t started it yet though! I didn’t do Shakeology until a few months ago, I didn’t want to believe the hype buuuuutttt – I love it! I drink the regular chocolate most often, with PB and banana!!

    Glad you love it!

  17. Vivian on August 24, 2014 at 1:17 am

I love the new blog look! I’m considering changing up my protein powder (I’ve always just used what the hubs uses), and I looked for Raw Fit at the BX (we’re at D-M). Holy cow! Unless it was totally mislabeled and I didn’t notice, all I could find was a 10-serving container that was almost $50. Are there different kinds of Raw Fit? They had some other products from the same parent company, but only one option for the protein.

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2014 at 11:07 pm

it was the regular sized tub- i got it at the bx on DM in the supplement section for $20. it was quite a few months ago, though, so i wonder if they marked it up
