Smirnoff Sorbet Light Summer Cocktails

First wine, and then cocktails!

[Head’s up: this post is sponsored by Smirnoff Sorbet Light. I was compensated for my participation, but would have loved to try the new flavors either way, especially since they don’t contain artificial colors or fake/added sweeteners. Of course, all opinions are my own, and I believe that if you choose to imbibe, cocktails and wine can be a part of a healthy lifestyle. Read on if you’d like to see the recipes I tried using their new Sorbet Light flavors.]

When Smirnoff Light offered to send me some of their new fruit-infused drinks to try, I knew it would be perfect timing with Jeni’s visit and a get-together that we’d be hosting. I always love to try new cocktails and ingredients, so figured it would be fun to step out of the box from my usual summer sangria for our little girls’ get-together. While I tend to be more of a wine girl, I also love an awesome fruity cocktail when I’m in the mood for something different, especially during the warmer months. I’ve always enjoyed vodka-mixed cocktails since the flavor is light and they tend to be lower on calories.

They sent some recipes to try out using the new Sorbet Light flavors:

In addition to enjoying the above, I also made a couple of new combos to test out the versatility.

Mango passion fruit + Stevia orange soda (this was FANTASTIC)

Smirnoff 1 of 1 6

Lemon + fresh cucumber, apple and lemon juice

Smirnoff 1 of 1 3

This was one of those good ideas with failed execution.

Pretty color, though.

The verdict? Everyone loved them, but we especially loved the Berry Cosmo.

Trying these new Sorbet Light flavors was a fun addition to our summer party. I’ll be enjoying the rest for upcoming girls’ nights and will definitely be adding the cocktail recipes into our summer drink rotation.

Some of my favorite healthy party habits:

-I alternate cocktails with water. By doing so, I’m able to stay hydrated and feel much better the next day.

-For food, I taste mostly everything, but go back for more of what I really love. My first plate is small bites of everything, and if I find something I really enjoy, I’ll go back for more.

-I bring something healthy to share. Some of my favorites are goat cheese stuffed mushrooms, sweet potato rounds and chopped salads.

-Go for zero or low calorie mixers. Vodka with a splash of cranberry juice + club soda and a lime is an awesome combo, and wine is great because I’ll sip a glass and it lasts longer.

Some more fave cocktails:

Lucky Irish Girl

Apple, pear, ginger saketinis

When you go out with friends, what’s your drink of choice?

Have a very happy Friday!

xoxo

Gina

I am so glad you reviewed these new favors. I was wondering how they tastes, what was in them, and which one to try first. I am definitely getting a bottle soon! Mango sounds delish! Thanks! I’m sure it was a tough job, but Hey! Someone had to do it! Lol

Lately I’ve been drinking gin and Diet Sprite. The Lemon Pomegranate Punch recipe looks pretty good!

these all sound deeeee-lish!!! I was *just* thinking on my walk today (it’s 80 and sunny here!) that I need to get bottle of something “hard” to mix with lemonade or club soda for some cold, summer drinks (when I want something other than my go-to: wine!). I think you just sold me on the smirnoff blends!

Those drinks look fun and yummy! I usually go for vodka drinks as well or wine. I love vodka with soda and a splash of cranberry + lime. Refreshing and light! I also surprisingly like Bud Light Lime and I’m not a huge beer drinker…it tastes like Sprite haha

YUM! This post has me excited for summer time pool parties! Cocktails, cute bikinis + tanning gossip time 🙂 I top off my cocktail with soda water and lime all night long as I am such a light weight and having a drink in hand prevents people trying to give me drinks all night and cuts back on my calories BIG TIME + of course NO hangover the next day 😉 I also enjoy lemons and stevia in my vodka for a lemonade type drink! Hope you enjoy more cocktails this weekend 🙂 Love + Shine CourtStar

This makes me SO excited for summertime. I can’t wait!
I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for these mixers- they sound delicious! And it’s always nice to find a lower calorie alternative when it comes to cocktails and mixed drinks.

Are they as alcoholic as regular Smirnoff?

    • Fitnessista on April 19, 2013 at 11:03 pm

i’m not sure.. my assumption would be less, but i’ll double check.

Looks so refreshing….after pregnancy I will have to try!!

    Pretty pictures!

Do you happen to know what the Smirnoff LIghts are sweetened with? I wish alcohol companies had to list ALL ingredients on their products.

    • Fitnessista on April 20, 2013 at 1:16 am

They didn’t taste sweetened at all- just light and fruity. I asked if they were sweetened and the rep said no, just fruit infused

Vodka, soda, w/splash of OJ is a fave at a bar! But at home, I like it better with vodka, diet sprite, splash of OJ (subbing the club soda for diet sprite) – so refreshing!

  12. Lucie@SwissFitChick on April 20, 2013 at 6:38 am

Oh they look so fresh and delicious!! I love Vodka. I mostly mix it with tonic water, or tonic water and campari. The bitterer the better 🙂

  13. MelissaH on April 20, 2013 at 8:40 am

I think diet alcohols are ridiculous. Vodka doesn’t have that many calories to begin with. It’s a disgusting, patronizing marketing scheme.

    • JennP on April 20, 2013 at 9:16 am

“Disgusting” seems a tad dramatic. I don’t think this is being marketed to somebody who would normally drink plain vodka on the rocks, but rather an alternative to their higher calorie flavored vodkas.

      • MelissaH on April 20, 2013 at 11:11 am

It’s disgusting because it’s directed at women, furthering the belief that everything we eat or drink must be light, fat free, and pink.

    • mary on April 20, 2013 at 9:52 am

It’s kind of aimed at young women who don’t know any better. It’s watered down vodka sold for full price or even a premium. It’s 30% alcohol where the regular is 40%. You accomplish the same ‘lightening and flavoring’ by just mixing your drink weaker yourself. Skinny Girl brand started the trend.

Another tip if you like Smirnoff… they sell Smirnoff vodka repackaged as Wolfschmitt’s brand, to reach the discount market. Same vodka, lower price. Just another creative marketing tactic.

      • Crystal on April 20, 2013 at 3:47 pm

This is why I just drink PBR…I always know what I’m getting with that. Lol.

Hi! I just wanted to say you have an amazing blog! So glad I found it 🙂

  15. JennP on April 20, 2013 at 9:05 am

Most of the time, I stick to a glass of wine, but I’ll have a light beer at a baseball game or an occasional martini out with friends. Those look light and refreshing!

  16. Kim on April 20, 2013 at 10:54 am

Those look like the perfect summer time “happy hour” drinks!! Will definitely have to check them out.

  17. Tracy on April 20, 2013 at 1:54 pm

SOLD! I’ll definitely be on the lookout for these vodkas!

My fav drink is a “margatini”. High quality tequila (I like patron silver), triple sec, fresh lime juice, splash of OJ. Sip it sloooowly.

  18. Donna on June 12, 2013 at 11:37 am

The lemon flavor is excellent with Fresca. Light and refreshing.

  19. Amy Klenec on June 24, 2013 at 3:57 pm

Super Yummy to try…Pour 3 ounces of the mango flavor over ice then add “just 15 Calorie” Lemonade from Minute Maid…DELISH!
