Smoothie Bacon Lovin’

Heyyyyyy 😀 Happy Sunday! Hope yours has been restful and glorious thus far.

Work last night was a blasty as usual. I love doing desserts and being surrounded with decadent treats all night 😉 As you guys probably know, it’s nearly impossible to take pics while I’m working –usually my hands are covered in dough or chocolate- but I did manage to take this one before setting it out.

Meet the Four Shot, my plating nemesis

001

It really is delicious and I’d probably order it if I were dining at the restaurant (as I love chocolate and coffee flavors) but it’s a beast to put together! Two blobs of ganache –one in the little dish and one under the cannolli- a squirt of coffee into the dish, stuff the cannolli with coffee gelato, grab two biscotti and garnish with coffee, get the tiramisu and garnish with cinnamon, scoop affogato ice cream into the dish and garnish with cacao nibs. Just typing it makes my heart race. It’s a fast and furious process 😀

After work, I wasn’t really starving thanks to my Amy’s burrito, but knew I had to eat so I had two of my favorite things: Tropical Popeye smoothie and some eggplant bacon

002

When I got back to the hotel-casa, to my utter shock and amazement, the internet was working! I was so happy I celebrated by facebooking it up and lurking all my favorite blogs before calling it a night 😀

I slept in –yeahhhhhh!!!- and decided to go to Targizzle before meeting Michelle for bfast at 105degrees.

I grabbed a plain hot green tea

003

and picked up Bella’s Halloween costume:

012

(For Pets Only. Well I would hope so, haha)

She’ll be such a beautiful puppy princess 😀 Anyone else love dressing their dogs up for Halloween? My Orlando familia also gets in on the tradition.. their cute little yorkie has been Elvis and a pirate for past Halloweens 😀

Michelle and I had an amazing bfast per usual and dined on the patio since the weather was absolutely perfect.

After much debating –in all honesty I really wanted a Pina Coloada for bfast but decided against it- I rolled with my staples because I’m boring I love them so much.

Eggplant bacon:

006

Thai Green Smoothie:

010

Young Coconut, Almond Milk, Dates, Mango, Spinach, Lemongrass, Thai Chili

Love those glass straws! I might need to purchase some for at-home use 🙂 For those of you who have asked, you just put them into the dishwasher with the other dishes. Pretty sweet, eh?

After bfast, and chatting with some of our yoga friends who dine there regularly (Hi Suzanne and Ramsey!) we went to the health food store to get some food for the week.

When I got back to the hotel-casa, I was feeling snackalicious so I had some eggplant bacon (just kidding).

An apple with almond butter and cinnamon:

007

And a mug of Ezekiel sprouted grain cereal with almond milk:

008

And then refilled the mug because I have no portion control with cereal it was just so delicious 😉

Time to get ready for the gym (cardio sesh with the new issue of Shape mag) and then work.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

xoxo,

G$

Something to Talk About: What’s your favorite Halloween candy? Mine is candy corn, all the way. I get so excited when I see it popping up on store shelves! 😀

all I can say is you’d better be planning on posting pictures of bella in that costume because it looks absolutely adorable!

and as for candy…anything chocolate. ANYTHING. butterfingers and reeses are probably my top two though.

  9. alex on September 27, 2009 at 3:13 pm

oh my goodness- i JUST went to the store and had to put down the candy corn and walk away… because I know I have NO portion control.
buuuuut there is still plenty of time until halloween, so i could see myself getting into candy corn trouble before then. muaahahaha.

  10. Morgan on September 27, 2009 at 3:38 pm

Aw, cute costume! I found a banana costume at Target for my dog. I think its the funniest thing ever. the hat part looks like a condom. he doesn’t like it too much

  11. kristina on September 27, 2009 at 4:34 pm

hey gina! my doggie sammy will not be dressing up this year ~ oh well ~ he looks EXACTLY like bella! he is a cockapoo. everyone always thinks that he’s a multipoo or just a straight poodle. what kind of dog is bella?
my all time fave halloween candy is the candy corn pumpkins!!

    • Fitnessista on September 27, 2009 at 4:40 pm

  13. Shelby on September 27, 2009 at 4:51 pm

Aw, I’m going to miss Halloween candy this year…but my favorites were Sour Patch Kids and Reeses. Yum.

  14. Liz on September 27, 2009 at 5:17 pm

That costume is just too freakin adorable! Your dog will look so cute! That dessert plate does look really yummy, but from your paragraph of a description, it sounds pretty involved to make.

  15. Brittany on September 27, 2009 at 5:27 pm

You and your love for eggplant bacon. I still need to try it. Do you think it would be good on a mock BLT sandwich?

Bella is going to look so cute in her little princess costume. I was at Pet’s Mart today and thought about buying Olive a pumpkin one. I think I need to dress her up. If we have any trick-or-treaters this year I’m sure that they would get a kick out of it.

PS- “And then refilled the mug because I have no portion control with cereal”- that could seriously be a quote from me!

  16. Kat on September 27, 2009 at 5:57 pm

Hey Gina– I have a fitness question for you. Well, two actually. One, I’ve been doing the Jillian Michaels 30-day shred video on & off, and it doesn’t seem to say specifically, but it seems like you’re supposed to do it everyday. I know that you aren’t supposed to lift weights every day — does this apply also for 5 pound dumbbells? For a workout like that (if you’re familiar with it), what would be a good fitness routine for the in-between days? Also, as for the weights-every-other-day (for different muscle groups) rule, do pushups and squats count? Or is it best to just try to incorporate them with weight lifting? Some of the other workout videos I sometimes do (such as Beach Body with Chalene Johnson) have *cardio* routines which don’t use weights, but there are squats and pushups, so I was wondering if it was *okay* to do these in combination (every other day) with weight routines… Thanks for any input you have!

I love your blog by the way. My fiancee was looking over my shoulder the other day and he totally has a thing for Viesa now 🙂

    • Fitnessista on September 27, 2009 at 10:47 pm

      hey kat,
this is a toughie for me to answer because i’ve never tried shred. the way i think about weight training is if you push your muscles to fatigue (where it’s extremely difficult to do more reps), you’re tearing muscle tissue (which sounds scary but totally isn’t) then you should only do weights every other day. your muscles need 48 hours to rest, recover and grow back stronger. if you’re just doing a few wimbly nimbly squats or push-ups (and they’re easy enough to feel like you could keep going) then doing them every day is no big deal, but you won’t experience as much lean muscle growth which is fine if it’s during a cardio dvd.
      hope that made sense 😀
as far as viesa goes, she is sadly up for adoption so let me know if you guys would be interested

  17. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on September 27, 2009 at 6:05 pm

All of the smoothies you have there look incredible. And they sound even better. I am not a fan or regular Halloween candy now…I’m too much of a chocolate snob. 🙂 But when I was little, I loved the ppl who gave out BIG candy bars!

  18. Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) on September 27, 2009 at 6:21 pm

I love candy corn too, because you can only get it at this time of year! I also love mini Take Five bars =)

  19. Cara (Cara Craves...) on September 27, 2009 at 7:16 pm

I am so the same when it comes to cereal eating…I always want another bowl! It is just so delicious, I get disappointed when the bowl is empty 🙂

  20. fittingbackin on September 27, 2009 at 8:03 pm

Love, love, love the costume! Reuben hasn’t gotten his yet – but he will! 🙂 My favorite halloween candy is chocolate… all day long! (reese’s cups… mini bitesize fabulousness!)

  21. Abby on September 27, 2009 at 8:08 pm

Cutie pie costume.. you must post pics! As for candy, as a little kid I always loved twix and 3 musketeer.. bring on the lovely drug store massive bags of chocolate, its not even October and every store is filled already!

  22. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on September 27, 2009 at 8:20 pm

I’ve read that recipe for e’plant bacon in RFRW and it’s got an ingredient list longer than the bible! I dont really like bacon and the ingredient list has scared my off but I know my hubbs would love that stuff…maybe one day I’ll make it.

Candy corn and halloween costumes? I was just in Target 2 days ago and almost bought some candy corn. I couldnt decide if it was ok to eat HFCS even though it’s GF and vegan and Halloween or if I should just skip it. So I took a pass…but may go back for some 🙂 My little girl was lovin’ lookin’ at all the costumes, she’s not quite 3, so a perfect age to be a kitty or a princess or whatever she decides. And yeah, when I had dogs I used to dress them up too!

Glass straws. I have one. Very cool aren’t they!

  23. Emily on September 27, 2009 at 9:27 pm

Well hopefully you have portion control with candy corn (unlike me). It’s the best part about Halloween! I especially love those candy corn pumpkin type things… and I probably end up eating less because they’re so much bigger and take longer to eat. :]

  24. Stephanie on September 27, 2009 at 9:38 pm

That smoothie sounds uber-deelish! I love the dog costume, so freaking cute 🙂 I am def guilty of dressing my dog up in tshirts and sweaters (ummm totally posted a fashion shoot on the bloggie earlier today in her “pedigree princess” shirt haha random!) but haven’t done the halloween thing yet… wonder if they make costumes for 48 pound black labs? 😉 enjoy your night!

My favorite halloween candy reeses, snickers, 100grand, milk duds.. basically anything chocolate =P

  26. Jenn (eating bender) on September 27, 2009 at 10:30 pm

Hahaha I love the “For Pets Only” addition to that costume packaging. As if the picture didn’t give it away…

I’m a big fan of your eggplant bacon. But wait, let’s talk Halloween candy for a second. I love candy corn! But I think the pumpkin mellowcremes have taken over. Pumpkin mellowcremes: Jenn :: cereal :: Gina. Oh wait, I could say the same thing about me and cereal, too 😉

Love you, Gina!! Thanks for your support this week.

  27. Sarah (LovIN My Tummy) on September 28, 2009 at 12:31 am

You HAVE TO post pictures of Bella in her getup so I can show Gracie. She will squeal with delight. We are currently in costume deliberations at our house. This is SERIOUS business.

Reeses Peanut Butter WHATEVER is my favorite.

    • Fitnessista on September 28, 2009 at 5:58 pm

i’ll definitely post pics of bella. can’t wait to see what your girls decide to be for halloween! 😀

  28. Nicole on September 28, 2009 at 8:45 am

gina – how can you make eggplant bacon without a dehydrator??

  29. Steph on September 28, 2009 at 9:16 am

Candy corn is definitely my favorite! I love the big pumpkin ones too 🙂

  30. K on September 28, 2009 at 10:02 am

I’m late but I hope you don’t mind! I DEFINITELY dress up the brat for Halloween. I’ll have to try to find pictures! Since she’s my fur baby I have to dress her up, right?! 😉

    • Fitnessista on September 28, 2009 at 5:58 pm

of course you do! they’re like our children 😀

Hello. This is kind of an “unconventional” question , but have other visitors asked you how get the menu bar to look like you’ve got it? I also have a blog and am really looking to alter around the theme, however am scared to death to mess with it for fear of the search engines punishing me. I am very new to all of this …so i am just not positive exactly how to try to to it all yet. I’ll just keep working on it one day at a time Thanks for any help you can offer here.
