Socca Swooning

Hiiiiii 😀 How are you? Hope your morning is off to a lovely start! Thanks for the feedback on the WSU Week 2 workout– from what I can hear, you’re loving it so far and feel hardcore in the gym- always a bonus 🙂 Keep rocking it out, my friends.

Last night, I experimented with a new-to-me flour:

chickpea

Chickpea flour!

I’ve always stayed far away from chickpea flour because it tastes like death if you try to eat any dough that’s made with it. I decided to be brave, because my twinnie friends use it to make socca, and socca is DELICIOUS. I had about a thousand pieces when Michelle (my Foodbuzz roomie) brought a stash to Foodbuzz festival 🙂

I was determined to make socca

socca

and reigned victorious 😉

It was SO EASY. Socca seems like one of those things that everyone says is easy to make, but like all bread products, is kind of intimidating. It’s ridiculously easy, I promise.

All ya do is mix equal parts chickpea flour and water (I used 1/2 of each)

chickpea (2)

season with sea salt and pepper, or fresh herbs if you like

and cook in a skillet for 1-2 minutes on each side, on medium-high heat (using whatever oil you like. I used coconut oil as the twins use, and it was glorious)

skillet

Ka-pow.

socca (2)

I enjoyed my socca with a bag of steamed organic broccoli, topped with organic butter and tamari

and for dessert, a serving of raw choco-cado pudding, using honey instead of agave. thinned out with a little almond milk

pudding

+ tea

It was perfect 😀

I’m surprisingly enjoying this detox thang so far. Then again, it’s only Day 2, so we shall see 😉

I’m off to run errands, teach, then look at a house that we could potentially buy if we get stationed here!

See ya later today <3

I love the Audrey quote — so true. Why spend time being miserable? Quote like that make me want to really “figure out” what I want to do with my life!

And if Choco-cado pudding is a part of your detox I’d like to sign up too please 🙂

A pizza place by my house makes gluten-free pizza and uses chickpea flour. I think it tastes good, but then again there are a ton of toppings.

  21. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on January 25, 2011 at 11:40 am

You have the most expanded food horizon of anyone I know! You never cease to amaze me with things I have never heard of . . . I appreciate your willingness to take on something new and share your results. Say, have you ever cooked with a Moroccan Tangine before? I would think that is right up your alley! Take care.

  43. Namaste Gurl on January 25, 2011 at 1:37 pm

I just ordered some chickpea flour online, and I’m really excited to cook and bake with it! It’s getting a lot more popular and used, but it’s been around for awhile. You should check out Ashley’s socca and other chickpea flour recipes- she’s got some great ones! I know that’s what I’m heading for when I get my chickpea flour in the mail 🙂

I’ve never heard of socca before–but now I want to try it! I always see garbanzo bean flour, I just had NO idea what to do with it! Now I do. 🙂

  48. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on January 25, 2011 at 2:35 pm

glad you are enjoying the detox! That’s awesome! Sometimes people act so “miserable” when they are doing detoxes at which point im always like..then stop! But your attitude is wonderful (as i knew it would be!) and the fact that you’re doing it *safely* and for the right reasons..so happy for you 🙂

I have been following the Twins’ socca tales on their blog for months and although i have never made it (still need to pick up the chickpea flour), i want to get down with the socca action!

  49. Sima on January 25, 2011 at 2:38 pm

I have some chickpea flour from my local indian store, but haven’t used it. Usually we make a kind of dumpling which you fry. I will try making socca as it it a healthier alternative, no deep frying required. I first read about socca from Michelle and Loris’ blog but never got round to making it. I love their blog to 🙂
