Soggy FTW

Heyyyy 😀 How’s your day treating you? Hope it’s been lovely so far <3

Something very surprising happened after breakfast this morning…

cereal

Cereal satisfied for longer than it takes to refill a bowl.. again.. and again.

It was my second time trying these strawberry flakes I picked up the other day:

iron

[This morning was my first time trying Floradix, too and I was pleasantly surprised. The taste was lovely]

I had a small cup of the Glutino cereal before bed last night and had high hopes, since I thought it would be like Special K. It was stale-tasting (awkwardly crunchy), too sweet and pretty nast. I thought I’d have to call it quits, but since the box was $7 –I didn’t know that until the cashier rang it up.. that’s golden cereal right there- I gave it another try. I let it sit in the almond milk for a while (so it was slightly soggy), added berries and banana, and it was so much better. The soggy cereal even kept me full for the entire morning at work- didn’t even need my snacks.

snacks

Things have been pretty standard over here, but while the Pilot was at work yesterday, I discovered another scorpion.

This one was also in the garage, in front of the door, and the scary thing was that I had been going in and out of the garage in BARE FEET (!) to get groceries. He was in front of the door for quite a while and I couldn’t get close enough to tell if he was dead or alive..

so, I made a barricade in front of the door out of the Pilot’s shoes.

Really effective scorpion control, right? 😉

[When I called the Pilot to tell him the situation, he just laughed at me.. and then verified when he got home that the scorpion was, indeed, no longer living]

Today was only a half day at work, so I’ve been trying to upload the Hot Curler video to post on the Fashion page. I’m on my 4th try –each time takes about 3 hours to upload- and right before it’s finished, it will say there’s a failure with the internet connection and stop uploading. Hopefully this time will be a lucky one!

Since it was a chill day of teaching, I’m meeting a friend for a dance class tonight- I can’t wait 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your day and I’ll see ya later! [Hopefully with that video Fashion post]

xoxo

I’ll be shuddering for the better part of the afternoon thinking about that scorpion! Glad it wasn’t able to hurt you.

On a happier note, I love that Oprah quote. =)

Slightly soggy cereal is the best! Everyone thinks I’m crazy when I do that…but it’s seriously delicious. Love the effective scorpion control method of yours. So glad your toesies didn’t get bitten!

scorpions ick! at least it was dead.
normally when i eat cereal i dont like it too soggy, but i suppose theres an exception when its awkwardly crunchy. I would have done the same thing trying it again if i paid $7 for a box of cereal, thats crazy. Gluten free stuff is usually more expensive, its kind of annoying. hopefully your baby girl won’t have any issues 🙂

I am terrified of these black cockroaches (most people call them water bugs). At the time I had a monthly bug spraying service. One of those big black bugs got into my bedroom. I was brave and was able to get on the bed and bend over and put a drinking glass on top of the bug. Thank goodness he was captured. I would never have been able to sleep knowing that guy was still running around loose. The bug man came the next day. I asked him to come into the house to remove the bug who was still running around under the glass. I am not sure what he thought but he covered his mouth and ran outside. Being polite by trying to not let me see he was laughing hysterically. Yes, he took the bug and promised me he would release him in a safe place.

Next time you see a scorpion, maybe you could do the same thing. Put a glass on top of it so Tom can remove it once he gets home.

that’s what he kept telling me to do, but i was too scared to get that close to it

OMG Gina, I found you a great tool. You can be up to 36 inches away. Non toxic and pet safe. Check it out and see if this is any good. (I did not read the whole thing) http://tinyurl.com/3byff7b

AMAZING!!! that way i won’t have to get close to them! i’m just praying we keep finding them OUT of the house instead of inside

I’m glad the scorpion was dead! I hate all the weird bugs we get in Arizona, not to mention the snakes galore! I also like how you used your husband’s shoes! I think mine would have freaked out at me! 🙂

I hope you get that video uploaded! I hate when uploads do that at the last minute! That has happened to me many times with youtube.

Thanks for writing about the cereal. I was actually going to buy that after I saw it on your post because I have a big craving right now for cereal! But $7 a box?! There has to be cheaper gluten free cereal out there, right?

    • Fitnessista on October 26, 2011 at 6:41 pm

yes! brown rice crispies are much less expensive, and i think they taste better too

  7. Ashleyr on October 26, 2011 at 6:21 pm

Yesterday I went out to lunch with a friend and he was bragging about how he bought 3 scorpions and 2 tarantulas in one day! He said I could even have the honor of naming one. Dead Meat sounds like a good name to me!

    • Fitnessista on October 26, 2011 at 6:41 pm

why would you pay money for those? i don’t understand, haha

  8. Gen on October 26, 2011 at 6:26 pm

Eeew scorpions!!!! I probably would have had a heart attack right then and there!

  9. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on October 26, 2011 at 6:39 pm

Glad the scorpion situation is under control…whew. Scary!

And I find most GF products or even some really ‘natural health food’ products to be overly crunchy or something…a little softening can be a beautiful thing. From cereals to chips to granola to crackers, sometimes they have a strange texture. I will use your tip next time for cereals like that 🙂

RE: the video uploading… make sure your screen saver, sleep mode, etc. are all turned off. I once attempted to upload a video about 8 times before I realized my conputer was going to “sleep” a couple hours in and cutting the internet connection. Looking forward to the hot rollers video! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on October 26, 2011 at 7:21 pm

i turned it off last night before my first attempt and it’s still being iffy :/

My boyfriend is afraid of spiders. He points them out to me and I either kill them or put them outside. He really appreciates that I am willing to do this, in order for him to feel comfortable. Ah, it’s the little things!

  12. Lena @Fit on the Rocks on October 26, 2011 at 7:40 pm

It grosses a lot of people out, but I have liked soggy cereal my whole life. I purposely let it sit there for 5 minutes to make it soggy. Similarly, I don’t eat many crunchy foods, like chips, crackers, hard cookies, etc. At least I like crunchy veggies!

  13. Hillary on October 26, 2011 at 8:03 pm

    Scorpions? Oh, HELL NO.

    • Fitnessista on October 26, 2011 at 8:04 pm

Love that Oprah quote! Also SO glad the scorpion was dead! Eek that is too scary!

  17. Emily on October 26, 2011 at 10:02 pm

I’ve never encountered a scorpion and I do not ever plan to! I love soggy cereal–always have. No matter what kind, I have to let it sit for awhile before eating it!

I live in East Tennessee, and in the last two years, my husband and I have found around 30 scorpions in our house. Apparently they are nesting here somewhere, we just can’t find where. We read a few articles stating that some scorpions can live up to a year without a full meal. Scariest.Creatures.Ever.

  19. kaila@ healthy helper blog! on October 26, 2011 at 10:24 pm

NO SHAME…..I totally would have done the same thing if I saw a scorpion.

  20. Lindsey on October 26, 2011 at 10:33 pm

Love the Oprah quote 🙂 Had to share it on Twitter!

Scorpions are so scary! I used to go to sleep away camp in the mountains when I was kid and we would find them in our bathing suits that were hanging outside! Really creepy!

      ahhhhh!!!!!

I love that quote so much – it’s incredibly inspiring and heart warming! <3 And lol to the shoe barricade! 😀 So glad the pilot came home and rescued you…from the dead scorpion! 😉 I would have been afraid too – scary creatures, indeed! Mmm…cereal really hits the spot sometimes…and how cool that it filled you up too! <3 xyx

Is there anything you can use to deter them from your yard/garage/home? Every part of the country has its nuisances, but even the word scorpion is menacing! I feel so bad you have to deal with that!

I just wanted to say that I love your hair tutorials and I think you are absolutely adorable and beautiful. Thanks for making the tutorials so simple and easy! I’ve always wanted to use curlers but thought they were super intimidating. Also, I appreciate your sense of humor, it always gives me a mood boost when I see you have a new post on the google reader!
