Spring in my Step

Heyyyy Open-mouthed smile How are ya? Happy Fashion Friday! Hope you have something fun planned for this weekend.

Pretty much every day this week, I’ve had an egg burrito on a brown rice tortilla.

burrito (1)

When the tortilla is warm, I smear a little organic butter on it before adding the scrambled eggs, just like my madre used to. It reminds me of my childhood, eating an egg burrito in the car on the way to school Smile

This morning, before the egg-rito, I did a workout I haven’t done in FOREVER: Step!!

I used to be a step machine when we lived in NC, and taught step for about a year, but it’s definitely been awhile since I’ve gotten my V-step and triple knee repeater on Winking smile It was a lot of fun.

Packed lonchi:

burrito (3)

Salad beast with arugula, tomatoes, goat cheese, kalamata olives, Garlic Gold, basil, balsamic, chickpeas

+ quinoa to add on top

burrito (2)

Amazing.

So even though it’s FREEZING cold outside, and usually most [normal] people focus on cute bundling clothes this time of year, my mind instantly shifts to spring. The stores start getting their spring shipments around January, and it makes me very excited Smile When it’s cold, I wear many layers (most of which I’m lucky if they match), and don’t get too crazy with trendy stuff. When the weather warms up, my style comes out a little more Winking smile LOVE dresses and skirts so much.

here’s what I’m looking forward to this spring:

What are you most looking forward to about spring? Do you prefer fall/winter clothes or summer/spring clothes?

Well I’m off to do the work thang, but I hope you have an amazing day <3

xoxo

I’m looking forward to brighter colors and lighter fabrics, I feel more adventurous in mixing color during the spring. But I’ll miss boots. 🙂

I can’t wait for spring when I can take the dog and baby out for a walk without layering on 15 layers on the baby (and me!). Also, I just love the warm weather.

That Express tank is super cute!

That first dress is gorgeous!!! And I’m all about the spring clothing. You know how it is in Orlando though, you can kinda get away with tees and skirts even in January 😀 😀 😀

I miss flip flops! I would wear them every where if my toes wouldn’t fall off in the winter… And it was socially acceptable.

  5. Ori on January 7, 2011 at 7:35 pm

I would love workouts that can be done in my living room with no equipment besides hand weights… And I love the videos you make for WMOW….so it would be awesome if you did videos for the shape up!

  6. Mary @ Bites and Bliss on January 7, 2011 at 7:35 pm

I’m kind of already looking forwardto the Spring too although we still have the wrost of winter to go through down here. I plan on wearing many more dresses this year!

Hi Gena, Do you have suggestions for a good weekly workout schedule for someone with low , low energy and adrenal fatigue? I am also underweight. But I need to do cardio and strength. I just don’t know how to put together a good plan for both week to week. I really need rigid plan and structure , so I feel I accomplish things. The trouble is that my muscles are so stiff and ragged. I don’t know if its just from sitting all the time, or what…but. I am truly desperate for some help. Please

i’d try swimming and pilates 🙂
hang in there and make sure you keep a doctor updated with everything <3

      • Ann on January 8, 2011 at 1:56 pm

        I can’t swim…..
As for eggs…I like to have 2 whole eggs + 1/2 avocado + 2 cups of steamed veggies on the side with olive oil.

        • Fitnessista on January 8, 2011 at 2:15 pm

i can’t swim either 🙂 what elliptical or stationary bike?

  8. LisaG on January 7, 2011 at 7:39 pm

I’ll take summer clothes; just bought some nude wedges today. Can’t wait for the workout. I like all of the fashion Friday clothes!

  9. Krista on January 7, 2011 at 7:41 pm

  10. Katherine: Unemployed on January 7, 2011 at 7:44 pm

I love the yellow dress! I just want to wear flip flops again

  11. Leah on January 7, 2011 at 7:53 pm

I love fall clothes. It’s not too cold so I can still get away with flip flops but I also get to wear boots and cardigans, which are my favorite.

Looking forward to the shape up! I would love a mix of yoga, free weights and cardio.

  12. Alycia [Fit n Fresh] on January 7, 2011 at 8:00 pm

Can’t wait for the Shape up!!

  13. Brittany on January 7, 2011 at 8:01 pm

I can’t wait for your Shape Up! I am so ready for spring too. Here in KY it is bitter cold!

  14. Ginna on January 7, 2011 at 8:13 pm

We just moved from hot Texas to VA this past summer and i missed winter days so much so i am npt at all ready for spring, pt until march or april atleast!

Can’t wait for the shape up! I love your mix of cardio and weights….would love to see strength training that includes exercises that target several muscle groups at a time and not just like biceps (I.e. Dead lifts, etc). Thanks in advance!

  15. Melissa on January 7, 2011 at 8:23 pm

I would love to see exercises that don’t require equipment in the new shape up! 🙂

  16. Jes on January 7, 2011 at 8:30 pm

With spring right around the corner, personally, I would like to see some core and back focused moves that really make you “feel the burn” quick!

  17. Jes on January 7, 2011 at 8:32 pm

With spring and summer right around the corner, personally, I would like to see a lot of core and back focused moves to help get summer confident before I have to bust out the bikini! haha

  18. Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table on January 7, 2011 at 8:59 pm

I cannot wait until spring! It kills me that all these cute clothes are popping up in stores, but the low here Monday is 18. And they’re forecasting snow. UGH!

If you have one, I’d love to see a really good ab workout. I can’t make my ab muscles sore anymore! 🙂

  19. Angie on January 7, 2011 at 11:13 pm

I live in FL, so we don’t really get TOO much of a winter here… but I gotta say, I am thoroughly enjoying it b/c it’s always so warm here 🙂 HOWEVER! I am totally looking forward to spring since it’s been so chilly!! I LOVE the bold colors like that yellow dress you posted! 🙂 that would look fab on you! I also love the CLOGS! yum 🙂

  20. Suzanne on January 7, 2011 at 11:21 pm

    Clogs? Platforms? I’m speechless.

Your food, your fashion, your life-isms, what can I say, usually you have a 100% approval rate from this girl, but today I was shocked by your endorsement of such a heinous look. One the one hand, I’m slightly disappointed in you (;)), but on the other hand, I’m relieved to know that you actually aren’t just a figment of my imagination who happens to post online the thoughts that are always inside my own head! haha

I’m so excited to hear more about your business! I believe you said it was fitness-related, but I was also thinking that, with your retail background, I bet you’d make an excellent fitness clothing designer as well as an excellent fitness instructor (and, shoot, we all know you would make an excellent chef, because you already ARE an excellent chef, but I mean professionally).

I would love to see some TRX workouts. Santa brought me one and it is the most fun and versatile piece of equipment.

    Have a great weekend!

  21. Ashley on January 7, 2011 at 11:23 pm

Eeck! I didn’t know you lived in NC! I live in NC 🙂 I think fall clothes are my favorite but I do love summer because I get to wear shorts

  22. CaSaundra on January 8, 2011 at 8:34 am

Love the outfits you picked out for spring–I am looking forward to the warmer temps the most! 🙂

  23. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on January 8, 2011 at 8:48 am

I can’t wait until spring so that I can finally stop being cold all the time! 😛 Plus I love getting to wear cute dresses and tanks!

  24. Brittany on January 8, 2011 at 9:33 am

I wish I was good at Step, but I’m too clumsy and I can’t catch onto the moves fast enough. Once I get the move, the instructor has already switched to something else. 🙂

I’m excited for warm weather so I can sport tanks and shorts.

  25. Raewyn on January 8, 2011 at 9:49 am

That burrito looks killer! 🙂 I may have to try that for breakifast… I love Step – it hurts like heck, but I feel amazing afterward! I’m excited to wear my white/light colored clothes. Winter demands warmer colors for me. Ooh, love to see some ab stuff in Winter Workout! I have a dance coming up that I’d love to get toned for! Thanks for doing it again, Gina!

  26. Christina on January 8, 2011 at 2:06 pm

I do love my springy dresses and bright colors, but my first loves are layering (sweaters and coats!) and tights. I seriously think I would hurt myself in those shoes!

  27. melissa on January 8, 2011 at 2:45 pm

I can’t wait for the winter shape up. Anything back strengthening would be great. I have had 2 fusion’s so I am a bit limited but love a good workout. I am cleared for workout but my mobility is not quite all there.

    Thanks Gina! Love your blog.

  28. Sara (Running with Teaspoons) on January 8, 2011 at 5:41 pm

Hey Gina! I’m training for a 10 mile race and will be taking a once per week boot camp class. I’d love to see things in your winter shape up that included some non-running cardio and some good weight training. I don’t know what to expect from this new class, but I definitely want to work on toning up all over as I try to shred a few pounds 🙂

  29. joanna on January 9, 2011 at 1:06 pm

I always watch the step class at my gym. Once I tried it and was completely lost. It was embarrassing. Any tips for getting started without looking like a loser? It looks like a great, fun work out and I would love to join. the routines are sooo hard

  30. Brenda on January 9, 2011 at 3:14 pm

I LOVE FALL!! That is my fav season, I can tolerate spring as long as my allergies don’t get too bad and summer here in Tx is crazy hot and I hate it!!

  31. Dee on January 9, 2011 at 5:34 pm

I look forward to spring dresses and skirts. I love them! 🙂

  32. nellie on January 9, 2011 at 11:13 pm

    Love the Prada platforms!

I am much more of a winter person…which is funny because I live in the tropics! I have missed bundling up all this winter! It’s so hot where I am every day!

  33. Katie G. on January 11, 2011 at 1:27 pm

I can not wait until spring…i am so done with winter (dreading the snow we are supposed to get here in MD today…). i am looking forward to bright colors, some color in my cheeks, and tank tops (I’m upping my weight lifting this year and hoping to be able to wear some backless shirts and tanks). For now, it’s time to get to work…haha
