steam + spin

Hi friends! How’s the morning going? Hope you’re having a lovely day. Don’t forget to check in with your workout here for Winter Shape Up! I’m so stoked you guys are loving the full barre video

Check out the STEAM after spin last night! We packed the house and it was an awesome, sweaty session. I was feeling a little blah while I was driving to teach -I think we all have those nights- and as soon as I saw the packed class and started the music, it was everything I needed.

Steamy spin

(We steamed up all of the mirrors and windows!)

This morning, I’m off to the gym for a short run and some leg work. I used to hate the treadmill for solo runs (= more than than the 30 minutes max I do in Orangetheory), but I discovered two valuable things: 1) the POSH podcast and 2) how to read my Kindle while running. This is a skill I’ve been working on for years, and I’m not sure what it works all of a sudden, but I finally figured out how to read and run at the same time. Lifechanger. Now that it’s been written, I’ll probably fall off the treadmill today haha.

Some adventures from lately:

Sunday night’s delicious dinner.

Pizzzaaaa

We got Pizza Nova, which was a very wise decision. I asked them to crack an egg in the middle of my gf margherita pizza, and also enjoyed some TJ’s Meritage with it

Gimme

and a side of Superbowl fighting. I only watched the last 10 minutes of the game, and even though I was not invested in either team, I was shocked. I was like, ‘They’re fighting! Why are they fighting?! Liv, LOOK AWAY!”

PS. Grocery shopping during the Superbowl is the most Zen thing ever. It was EMPTY so I had plenty of time to fully assess all of the new products. For the record, the new crunchy broccoli is really good!

Groceries

Lastly, a picture with my favorite noodle at brunch. Great Maple may be one of the greatest things ever. (<— If you visit San Diego, this is a must. Just make sure to make a reservation online in advance.)

At great maple

(Liv appropriately thinks pictures are lame when that kind of French toast is on the table.)

Hope you have a wonderful morning <3 See ya later today with a quick and amazing dessert recipe.

xoxo

Are you a sweat-er when you work out? Do you like when classes are hot and steamy, or notsomuch? I am a serious sweat-er. It’s kind of ridiculous, and I also think it’s because I drink a ton of water. I also loooooove super sweaty workout classes.

I love the top you’re wearing for brunch and Livi looks like such a big girl in the picture!! Also the french toast…wow!!

I like hot yoga and classes that are more intentse but I am not much of a sweater! My sister can never believe it when we go to hot yoga together. I went to TJ’s myself last Sunday and it was pretty zen. 🙂 Have a great Tuesday!

I’m obsessed with Podcasts. I just downloaded the Posh podcast because it sounds amazing, and they gave you a shoutout in the latest episode!!

  6. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on February 3, 2015 at 4:56 am

Oh yes, I am most definitely a sweat fan when I work out! This sounds exceptionally gross but the more the better! As for podcasts, I absolutely LOVE them and will check out the POSH podcast today!

  7. Kaila @healthyhelperblog! on February 3, 2015 at 4:58 am

I love reading while working out! I am a magazine girl myself on the cardio machines though….books are to hard to keep open! LOL

  8. Amanda @ Slimplify Life on February 3, 2015 at 5:24 am

I’m a sweater baby. But I feel like it’s detoxing in some sense so I have no shame :).

    Liv’s french toast looks amaze.

  9. Lindsey @ Simply Lindsey on February 3, 2015 at 5:27 am

That pizza looks heavenly!! I need to find a good gluten-free pizza place here in Charlotte!

I’m not a big sweater, but my face gets purple & red when I run. 😛

egg + pizza is such a good combo!

  11. Brynn on February 3, 2015 at 5:38 am

I don’t sweat much so I love to take spin and hot yoga as a great way to really drip! Haha!

  12. Rachel on February 3, 2015 at 5:38 am

Omg, that pizza..yum! I just tried making pizza with egg for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I was always intimidated by it, but it was simpler than I realized! Looks absolutely perfect with those fresh tomatoes.

  13. heather @ fit mama real food on February 3, 2015 at 5:56 am

LOVE how spin brings out ALL the sweat! Great way to start the morning.

  14. Linda @ The Fitty on February 3, 2015 at 5:56 am

What? You can customize your pizza and ask for extra egg in the middle? All I can do is choose from selected toppings and eggs are not one of the options!

Sometimes we all feel a little blah until we are stimulated by our senses. 🙂

  15. AJ @ NutriFitMama on February 3, 2015 at 6:00 am

I am a profuse sweater. Seriously- 5 minutes on the treadmill and I am dripping. It’s absolutely ridiculous! BUT, I definitely always feel/look like I just got in an awesome workout 😉

  16. RachelG on February 3, 2015 at 6:00 am

I have that same TJs olive oil in my cabinet at home. 🙂

OKAY, first of all you are my ultimate hero for mastering the Kindle during running!! How long did that take? I mastered magazines on the elliptical back in high school but I remember it making my dizzy at first =P Must learn treadmill!
PS. I was at Wholefoods during super bowl and it actually took less than 5 min in line for the first time eva. Win!

Good call on the TJ’s trip…we went on Saturday and it was crazy. I am definitely a sweater during workouts, and I get really red-faced…lol. My gym just got spin bikes and classes are starting this month…super excited!

  19. Debbie on February 3, 2015 at 6:28 am

I sweat a ton during cardio classes, especially when there is no fan, but am usually cold during yoga. I still have not mastered reading and running. I have trouble glancing at the tv and running, so I just listen to my iPod and zone out.

  20. Paula on February 3, 2015 at 6:29 am

I get DISGUSTING when I work out hard. I don’t mind except when it affects my grip — like when the sweat pours down my arms and I have to do kettlebell swings or anything on the pullup bar. One day I will weigh myself before and after a summer workout here just to see exactly how much water weight I sweat out.

  21. Gianna @ Run, Lift, Repeat on February 3, 2015 at 6:40 am

I am the sweatiest person ever when I workout and love it. Something about a good sweat just makes me happy and feel accomplished.

I watch shows on my kindle but reading is dicey – it depends on where I can rest the kindle on the treadmill if I have to look down too much I just can’t do it. The kindle has kept me occupied through many double digit treadmill runs in bad weather!

  22. Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries on February 3, 2015 at 6:41 am

Haha! Love what you said about the players fighting during the end. That made me laugh because I totally responded the same way. 🙂

I’m a major sweater when I workout! Like, it’s gross! But, I do appreciate an awesomely sweaty class … it means everyone is working hard!

  23. Michelle on February 3, 2015 at 6:48 am

I would love to hear any tips you have for mastering the Kindle while running! I keep trying every so often, but usually give up.

I like to do a quick 20 minute interval run before Body Pump, and I’m usually pretty stinky and sweaty after that. I feel badly for the other people in the class.

  24. Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious on February 3, 2015 at 7:48 am

We steam up the windows often in the summer when it’s monsoon. Our spin instructors always reminding us she wants to see steam meaning work harder. The Super Bowl was insane. I can’t believe they were really fitting.

  25. Jessica @ Fit Talker on February 3, 2015 at 8:20 am

I was never a sweater and always wanted to be. I remember being in college and wanting so badly to be a “visible sweater” because I felt like it showed that I worked hard.

I guess I should be happy because now I am truly a visible sweater. Sometimes it’s gross but I still kind of love it. I tell my members (I teach spin) that it’s like a badge of honor when we leave the spin room all sweaty.

Unfortunately though, I sweat just as much from heat, so it’s kind of a pain in the summer. Got to take the good with the bad though, right?

  26. Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on February 3, 2015 at 8:48 am

I go through the same thing you did on the way to classes … I’m just not feeling it. The second I put on my mic and turn on the music everything changes! And yes, I’m a sweater. And yes, I love to sweat in hot classes!

  27. Autumn (@Beautifully Gray) on February 3, 2015 at 9:12 am

That picture definitely put me in the mood for pizza!

  28. Haelena Bondi-Camacho on February 3, 2015 at 9:16 am

You should totally post some tips of how to read while running! I’ve always wanted to try and make it work and get some extra reading in but couldn’t manage it. Your tips and tricks would be very appreciated!

    • Julie on February 3, 2015 at 10:30 am

I would love to hear some tips, too!

  29. Char @ Run Happy on February 3, 2015 at 10:24 am

I hope you don’t fall off the ‘mill now!! haha. I used to read mags on the treadmill, but now I bring the iPad, and what I love about it, is that you can make the font as big as you want, which is totally amazing when something is in small, fine print haha!

  30. Tracy on February 3, 2015 at 10:59 am

I read my kindle on the elliptical and stairs no prob, but running? You rock! You must have very good eyes AND balance!!

Sweaty workouts are the best! I think that’s why I love hot yoga so much.

Crunchy broccoli?? What and where? Please tell me more!

  31. Kate @ www.socalrunnergal.com on February 3, 2015 at 11:13 am

Can you share how to read while running!? I have an iPad mini for reading but I never even thought to read while running! You don’t get dizzy?

  32. Natalie on February 3, 2015 at 11:44 am

Totally off topic, and not like you need a reason to do some shopping (lol) but juil.com is having 50% everything and free shipping! (Im the one that one the shoes awhile back :))

  33. Emma @ Life's A Runner on February 3, 2015 at 12:10 pm

I just discovered how to read while running this past December and it changed my life as well! I was determined to because I had to read a book for my English class and just sitting still for hours drove. me. nuts. The key (for me) is to just do it on easy-pace runs where I’m not thinking about anything.

  34. Britt@MyOwnBalance on February 3, 2015 at 1:07 pm

I can’t believe you can read and run at the same time! I think I would get dizzy.

The fighting in the Superbowl was so unnecessary. I mean come on guys!

  35. Cindy S on February 3, 2015 at 5:07 pm

Trader Joe’s crunchy broccoli is the BEST!! I hope you bought a lot. We were at the Chicago TJ’s last Monday and they were sold out. The salesman told me they wouldn’t get it back in until MARCH because they underestimated its popularity in their warehouse. Wah!

  36. Masala Girl on February 3, 2015 at 6:13 pm

how do you read and run?!

  37. Kelly Scott on February 4, 2015 at 4:39 am

    That pizza looks amazinggggg!!!
