Still not quite there

Instead of my usual Thursday of teaching and Zumba, I spent the morning testing out the Schweaty November Workout, so it will be ready to go tomorrow! It was certainly schweaty, and please let me know if you have any current workout song faves to add to the playlist.

I took today and Saturday off work, since we have out-of-town guests coming in for the shower –my friend Hayley is staying with us this weekend!- and I wanted to be able to spend time with them. Whenever we have people in town, they like to see the new casa, so we’ll give the house tour and everything.

Which means, I get to show two rooms that still need a little lot of help, and have wickedly awful paint jobs.

Exhibit 1: the baby’s future room (when she’s old enough to move out of the nursery)

room

There used to be car and train decals on the walls… very nice.

Exhibit 2: what will be  the Pilot self-worship room aka the office

office

*shudders*

When you’re military, it’s easy to have at least one room in your house full of boxes that you’ll probably never unpack since moving happens so frequently. Since we’re supposed to be here at least 3 years, it’s kind of exciting to know that we can fully unpack and settle a little bit, before we find out what’s happening next.

 office (2)

Pretty much every pilot I’ve met has a room in their house with their medals and awards, military art and plane models, etc., so this will be the Pilot’s. I think it would be fun to do a vintage military theme in there but before really decorating it, we need a new desk. We ended up dismembering our old one in Valdosta, and putting it out front, along with many other things, and a sign that said “Take me!”

I love the fact that it’s pink right now, even though it’s a BRIGHT and nauseating shade. [And that’s coming from a major pink fan]

We still have work to do on the nursery and master bedroom,

and the only upstairs room that is actually finished is the guest room.

guest

It’s all a work in progress, but hopefully most of it will be done before the holidays? We shall see…

*More house pics in this post 🙂

This morning’s bfast included the return of an old favorite:

tea

candy cane green tea!!!! I hoarded boxes from Trader Joe’s right before they got rid of them last year, and I was so excited to see that it’s back. This would be AMAZING with some dark chocolate almond milk….

I enjoyed a plain cup this morning with pumpkin protein oats, half a GF gingersnap cookie crumbled on top:

bfast

Time to get crackalackin on the to-do list 🙂

See ya later today with a Family post!

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What’s your all-time favorite tea? Candy cane green tea for me, and Tulsi sweet rose is a close #2. Any room in your house that you’d like to makeover? As much work as the office needs, getting the master totally finished is on the top of our priority list.

My Dad was a fighter pilot and in their new house, he has the coolest office/cubby tucked away between two rooms- small but with high ceilings. His brag-wall is the main wall of the cubby and his “stuff” goes all the way up the 15 foot celings, with the F-16 gun barrel in the middle. It is always neat to see how people do theirs, so I hope you share it.

      i definitely will!

Sweet Green Tea – Touch Organics, but it is hard to find now so when I do find it I buy it all! haha
I would like to re-do our basement, we don’t spend a lot of time down there and it has hand me down furniture right now. I think we some new furniture we’d spend a lot more time there.

What will become our nursery is serving as my husband’s office right now. I’m SO excited to find out the gender of our baby and start transforming it into the nursery…although the thought of the two of us (me and the hub) sharing an office is a little scary. I guess we’ll just have to make it work!!

  4. Janine on November 3, 2011 at 12:24 pm

I love the Herbal Wellness Tea “ENERGIZING” Apple Cinnamon! So good, especially on a cold winter day!
And where to start on our house… yesterday I was doing dishes, and my husband flushed the upstairs toilet that sits directly above the kitchen sink… and a piece of the ceiling fell on me!!!?! Apparently there’s a leak in the plumbing between the bathroom floor/kitchen ceiling, and it had finally had enough! So the leaky hole in the ceiling, combined with the 1980’s cabinets… yeah… the kitchens and bathrooms are the first to get remodeled!

Ohh what exciting room decorating projects! I watch way too much HGTV and cant wait to have rooms to makeover! Have fun! I’m sure the pilot will be very excited when his office isn’t pink with flowers! ;p

My favorite all time tea is Good Earth Original, sweet and spicy. I’m drinking it right now! I have it with a splash of vanilla almond milk or soy milk, and it tastes like a chai latte. Yum! I would love to make over our office and make it a little more hang out friendly. Right now it mostly houses a lot of stuff, and it’s not a room we like to spend time in.

Mmmmm I love this tea!!!! I usually get a celestial seasonings one here as TJ’s is not in Canada and thats a special trip I take to shop there 😉

I actually love redoing rooms in the house. In this condo everything was brand new so we didn’t need to do anything, which kinda made me sad…I love a good project!!

    xxoo

We have a spare room that has turned into the ‘everything’ room. It’s where things go untl we can find another place to put them! It drives me crazy and I can’t wait until it’s actually just a room instead of a make-shift closet!

  9. Claire @ Live and Love to Eat on November 3, 2011 at 12:31 pm

I’ve been seeing TJ’s teas all over the internet today – I need to go buy some!

  10. Caitlin on November 3, 2011 at 12:34 pm

I got a really tasty herbal tea mix off a street vendor in NYC. It had white chocolate, coconut, and chocolate in it – mm!

  11. Heather on November 3, 2011 at 12:36 pm

I think I would go crazy having to move every couple years and not know whats happening, way to much of a control freak. The guest room looks great!

  12. Dawn on November 3, 2011 at 12:38 pm

I love Stash Coconut Mango Tea Oolong tea. It is delicious….just smelling it makes me happy!!

  13. Amanda on November 3, 2011 at 12:40 pm

Our 2nd bathroom needs some sprucing up, but we’re renting, so we’re limited in what we can/want to do. I can’t wait to own my own place one day and be able to paint the walls a shade other than white!

My 5 year old self would have loved that pink room. haha

  14. Hillary on November 3, 2011 at 12:43 pm

GAH! I totally forgot about that tea! I went through boxes of it last winter.

  15. Holly @ The Runny Egg on November 3, 2011 at 12:44 pm

I love peppermint tea — although lately I’ve been drinking this Apple Cider tea that I just love — it is probably only a seasonal item which makes me kind of sad.

We are trying to do so much with our house — Jason has lived there for 8+ years and I’ve been there for almost 4 and slowly we’re getting everything to look the way we want it.

  16. kara on November 3, 2011 at 12:46 pm

i stumbled upon this adorable little tea shop on a road trip last labor day (http://www.thewhistlingkettle.com/) and ate/drank there. the biscuits and tea were to die for. i had strawberry pepper and took a pound home with me.. i still have some left and i just love the fruity flavor with bright peppercorns mixing it up. i’m definitely gonna look for some candy cane green in the next few days.. that sounds right up my alley.

  17. Krystina (Organically Me) on November 3, 2011 at 12:54 pm

My favorite tea changes pretty often. I fell in love with a chocolate coconut tea that I found in bulk at a local health store, but I haven’t had it in ages and since moved. 🙁 Sugar cookie sleigh ride is my favorite holiday tea, though.

My apartment needs some work in the decor and color department. I moved in with my BF who has a picture of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and a total BROWN color scheme – brown comforter, beige sheets, brown curtains, brown shower curtain. Gag.

    • Fitnessista on November 3, 2011 at 12:54 pm

i loooooove sugar sleigh ride! totally forgot about that one! the gingerbread is good, too 🙂

  18. Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile on November 3, 2011 at 12:56 pm

I’m intrigued by that tea! I’m not a huge tea fan, but I do love regular black tea, kombucha and passion fruit from starbucks 🙂

  19. Nancy (Beyoutiful Fitstyle) on November 3, 2011 at 12:56 pm

I love reading and seeing how other people decorate their house. I’m still decorating my house too. Our office is just white and blah and I’d love to get it painted soon! Same with our guest room. I really need to decorate my first floor first I think. We have furniture, but the walls are super bare…it still echoes! 😮

  20. Emma Aubry on November 3, 2011 at 1:02 pm

Coffee is my husband, but Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice tea is my dirty mistress. It’s crazy flavorful. Every bit as sweet and spicy as a Starbucks chai, without the added sugar. A coffee shop in my neighborhood also sells the most wonderful roasted almond tea, but I have yet to find another one that comes close. I know you’re an almond fan—any suggestions?

For workout jams, Britney’s “Drop Dead Beautiful” and Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” are literally the only things getting me off the couch right now. Best line of the Britney song: “You steam me like a pot full of vegetables.” Um…YES. So healthy living chic.

i actually think the pilot should keep the pink walls! what? his military buddies wouldn’t laugh at him would they?!

my favorite tea is republic of tea pumpkin spice. amazing steeped in vanilla almond milk.

  22. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on November 3, 2011 at 1:05 pm

Oooh don’t get me started on teas! I just popped out to David’s Tea on my lunch and they just got their winter collection in – I stocked up!! My favourite new flavour is Alpine Punch, but they have a herbal one that I keep going back for time and time again called Forever Nuts – it’s got bits of almond, dried apple, and beetroot in it (so it turns pink) and it tastes So delicious!

  23. Dynamics on November 3, 2011 at 1:06 pm

I love Yerba Mate tea and rose hips.

  24. Megan on November 3, 2011 at 1:09 pm

I’m obsessed with the Tazo Zen tea. It’s a slightly minty green tea. It’s the same kind they use in the iced green tea at Starbucks.

  29. Beth on November 3, 2011 at 1:45 pm

LOVE Celestial Seasoning’s Sleepytime and Tension Tamer teas. The blends are so yummy and comforting.

I’d love to repaint our kitchen, but we just painted it in April. If I paint it by myself, though, the hubs might be more okay with it. The more likely project, though, is our master bedroom. I can’t wait to paint over the pale sky blue and finally hang up some real blinds. (we’ve been using the temporary stick-on ones)

  30. Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life on November 3, 2011 at 1:54 pm

You MUST add “Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO to your playlist. I am currently obsessed with that song and seriously cannot get enough of it!!

It is always the way with new houses, isn’t it? It seems the work of un-packing is never really done. We live in a tiny apartment, and the best part about that is no place to hide anything. All of our things had to find a home as soon as we moved in, or there was no place to put them! I wish you luck with your house making adventures! I have no idea what kind of tea is my favourite, there are just to to many! I tend to lean more towards the sweet fruity or sweet herbal though.

  32. Julie on November 3, 2011 at 1:56 pm

I’m not sure I have an all time favorite tea, I’m pretty much a fan of all of them! In the summer I LOVE Stash’s goji berry green tea and in the winter I love anything spicy. At night I usually can be found with a cup of honey chamomile…See, I don’t discriminate! I’m definitely going to have to go pick up some of that candy cane tea though!! It sounds amazing!!

  33. Emily on November 3, 2011 at 1:57 pm

My favorite tea is Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride! I used to love Gingerbread, but now I’m gluten free and that tea lists “toasted barley” on the ingredient list:(
Can’t wait to see your little one’s nursery!

  34. Olivia @ PeanutButterNerd on November 3, 2011 at 2:04 pm

My fave grocery store (Loblaws, in Canada) has their own private line that does the most amazing foods at holiday time – this year so far they have mint chocolate tea, dulce de lece coffee beans and candy cane coffee beans – I have a feeling I will be hoarding them too 😉

For some reason I love the Women’s Energy by Yogi tea. something about it. . . . granted, i love a lot of Yogi’ teas but that one stands out.

i looove starbucks tazo chai tea, in latte form, i have some in my cupboard. its so flavourful, spicy and just amazing.

  37. Catherine on November 3, 2011 at 2:11 pm

My pilot and I have the biggest fights over his “self-worship room.” (Thanks for that name, by the way – I’m totally going to rip it off!). He continues to insist that he needs an “office” but I am the only one who actually uses it (I’m an attorney, also in the AF)! I love the vintage theme – we settled on that idea, too! I have come to realize that it’s not even worth fighting anymore. My only request: stay OUT of the BATHROOM! 🙂

  38. JodiS on November 3, 2011 at 2:25 pm

    sencha green tea, so therapeutic!

  39. mary on November 3, 2011 at 2:26 pm

Is the pink room to far to be the baby’s room? The blue room would look like a guy’s office with a chair rail over where the wallpaper border (I’m assuming) used to be. The pink is a little pepto bismol but you could sponge paint something more neutral over it in about 10 mins, with a pint of paint. Sponge painting effect is probably as passe as wallpaper borders, though! Maybe you could do a more current faux effect over the pink and the blue, but not if you hate them! There’s a denim faux effect, I think.

    • Fitnessista on November 3, 2011 at 5:12 pm

the pink room is much smaller than the blue room, which is why we did it like that. i think we’re going to scrap both of the paint jobs and start fresh- they’re even worse in real life 😉

We live in an old farmhouse and so far the only room that hasn’t been touched is mine. My sons room has been painted twice, and I’m ready to repaint the living and dining rooms. I would really like my bedroom and bathrpom to be redone next.

  48. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on November 3, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Good luck getting everything organized and getting it done the way you want. The beauty of it is that it will ALWAYS be waiting for you, there’s no rush, and with houses, there’s usually ‘always something’ to work on even if you think you’re done…there’s always ‘one more thing’…but that’s the fun part. Making it just the way you want it 🙂

  49. Carolyn (Life in the postcard) on November 3, 2011 at 4:09 pm

Thanks for the reminder on that tea – I will have to pick up a couple boxes this weekend! My new favorite tea is Celestial Seasons Apple Cinnamon. I love it as my sweet tooth tamer before bed. I am trying to give up coffee since I always take it with cream or some kind of milk and stevia. Now to figure out if decaf tea will cut in!

  50. Jen @familyfoodfitnessandfun on November 3, 2011 at 5:36 pm

That tea sounds delish! I love green tea and I love peppermint tea. I really wish we had a Trader Joe’s up here in Canada!!!
