Stop messing with me, run

Helloooooo 😀 How’s your day going?

Mine has been bueno- especially since I conquered an 8 miler with Meara. I expressed my anxiety via Twitter, and was so thankful to see tweets of motivation flowing in—ya’ll are amazing! I don’t know why I’ve been getting so nervous about long runs lately. Last night, I was a jittery nervous mess.

My dinner erred on the side of random.

Hummus and cucumber after Zumba before my training appointment:

hummusandcuc

And an obligatory salad:

balssalad

While I waited for these bad johnnies to finish cooking:

bnutfries

And comfy carob:

comfycarobdrink

All I wanted for dinner was fries and a carob drink but felt I needed a little more substance in my life, especially after teaching. I could eat b-nut fries and drink comfy carob all the livelong day 😉

I crawled into bed, read for a while and thought about how lame it is that I can’t see my husband, and crashed out.

The puppers and I woke up early for a walk and I made some mesquite oat bran before meeting Meara.

mesquiteoatbran

1/3 cup oat bran cooked in 1 cup water, 1/2 smashed nanner, 1/2 pack of Stevia, 1 T mesquite, cinnamon, pinch of sea salt and 1 T almond butter.

I packed up the ol’ Camelback with some HEED powder and water –if you’re an endurance athlete, I highly recommend HEED. The orange flavor tastes like heaven and it only contains natural ingredients- and some Shot Bloks in case I needed some carb replenishment.

I’m not really sure why I was so nervous, because our run was amazing!!! The weather was beautiful, we talked the whole time, little Mitch slept in the jogger and we did 8 miles in 1:12. Then we walked around .3 miles to cool down and then hopped in her husband’s truck and drove our route to check the miles, because we’re ghetto like that and don’t have Garmins… yet 😉 (Birthday hint… Pilot, ya there?? Haha)

After our glorious run, I came back to the casa and spent about 5 quality minutes with the foam roller 😀 Hurts sooooo good!

Snack/Lunch:

halfnanner

The other half of this morning’s nanner smeared with AB

Salad:

skull salad

And 2 eggs + 1 egg white, covered in a blanket of salsa and an Ezekiel tortilla to “pinch up” the eggs

eggandtort

My nana informed me that I missed Dia De Los Muertos (I’m a bad Mexican) so that’s why I busted out the skull plates I love so dearly.

Husband and wife:

016

Gloooooorious.

Here’s what today is looking like in the casa de Gina:

– make artichoke dip (from ED&BV) and store in fridge until I bake it tonight

-prep cheese plate

-buy parsley and POMtini supplies

-meet Jeni for juice

-walk the puppers

-yoga

-get ready for a ridiculously awesome girl’s night

I probably won’t have time to post tonight –and you probably wouldn’t want me to, haha- but expect a full re-cap and lots of pics in the morning 😀

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo,

Gina

Congrats on your run!! That sounds so awesome…The butternut squash fries look so tasty. I haven’t made them in awhile and it reminded me that maybe I need to make some for dinner tonight. And the carob drink. Delish!! Have a great day and congrats again on the run! =)

    Hey!

Your meals look amazing. I made a breakfast cookie w/ vanilla protein powder and raspberries this morning…a-mazing!

I was wondering where I can find Mesquite. I’ve looked everywhere for it! Also, what’s carob? Where do you find it and how do you make it?

    Thanks so much!

so glad you liked the bfast cookie!
you can find mesquite at most health food stores– i use the navitas naturals brand which can also be purchased online
carob powder is ground up from the carob pods and has a similar taste to chocolate, without the caffeine. it has a milder flavor than cacao

Glad the run went well 🙂 I always get a little nervous before long runs! Your dinner last night looks awesome to me. I am kind of in the mood for a random platter tonight. Have fun with your girls

Way to kill that run!!! It’s so much nicer with someone else.

I’ve got to find carob powder so I can make your comfy drink. Ain’t nothing wrong with fries and hot carob goodness for dinner.

Enjoy your girls night! Can’t wait for the recap tomorrow!

  9. Molly @thevegandorm on November 3, 2009 at 1:13 pm

I am so curious about mesquite! I haven’t found it yet but when I do – watch out! 😉

  10. Allie (Protein Girl) on November 3, 2009 at 1:24 pm

Great job on the run!! I have to do 8 after work tonight, so you’ve inspired me!!!

  14. Teresa on November 3, 2009 at 2:07 pm

I knew you were gonna rock your run this morning. Indeed! Ooooh and I’m going to have to make myself some Comfy Carob (once this weather finally dips below 80).

I always use google maps to calculate my mileage, but come to think of it I have no idea how reliable it is.

When does the Pilot finally get home?

  15. Amanda on November 3, 2009 at 2:07 pm

Nice run! I always get nervous about a run when it’s been a little while since I’ve been out there. Usually after a minute or so once I get into the groove, I feel great!

  16. Lauren on November 3, 2009 at 2:23 pm

Great job on the run! What is a carob drink?

  17. Abby (Abbys Vegan Eats) on November 3, 2009 at 2:24 pm

    Good job on your run!!

    Comfy carob sounds delightful!! 🙂

  18. Joelle (The Pancake Girl) on November 3, 2009 at 2:28 pm

Good job on the run.. i hear you on being nervous, but remember you only have to run as far as you can, when you can! 🙂

  19. Alexis on November 3, 2009 at 2:28 pm

Mapmyrun.com is a good tool to figure out run mileage if you’re running on roads.

Also, how is the mesquite prepared? Is it just ground bean pods? I ask because my mom has tons of mesquites on her place in AZ and if I can make it on my own, that’s even better.

  20. GirlonRaw on November 3, 2009 at 2:31 pm

Nice work on the run! You go girl 🙂

  21. Tay on November 3, 2009 at 3:10 pm

Congrats on your long run, woman!! Go you 😀

  22. Kris | Iheartwellness.com on November 3, 2009 at 4:02 pm

I am so happy to see that you eat lots of greens!! Greens are important and I did a post on that today 😉

Ahhh a carob bevy would be delightful right about now. Instead I am sipping water…….All I keep wanting is hot stuff becaue of the cold weather 🙁
    Enjoy your Tuesday Doll!

  23. Katie on November 3, 2009 at 4:22 pm

I was psyched out about my long runs too until I rocked Nike. Now I’m a changed girl and run way of the run then I used to! Yummy hot carob (for me chocolate)! If I hadn’t ate a cupcake totally would be enjoying. Have fun wild woman and if a little blonde butts in it’s just me wanting the delicious food 😉 Too bad I’m not closer!

  24. simpledaisy on November 3, 2009 at 4:46 pm

I love Heed and Hammer gels!! They got me through a 75 mile bike ride!!!
I get nervous about long runs too!! I have found that if I tell myself I am just going out for 3 miles and I can turn on my route to go longer *if I feel like it*!! I always end up going the distance and I don’t get nervous about it!!

  25. Ashley on November 3, 2009 at 4:50 pm

Congrats on your run! I was wondering if you ended up using the clif shot blocks and if so, how you liked em?

    • Fitnessista on November 3, 2009 at 4:56 pm

i didn’t need them today, but have used them before– i LOVE them. i usually have a couple in between aerobics classes or when i have a long run and they’re perfect 😀

  26. Shari B. on November 3, 2009 at 5:09 pm

Nice job on the 8 miler, speedy G! You must be feeling better, yay! No more sickies!

Have a blast at girls’ night! I am in awe of the prep work you’ve done to cook for it… I’d be all lazy, shopping for snacks at Whole Foods! 🙂

  27. Lauren @ Let Them Eat Lentils on November 3, 2009 at 5:17 pm

Really looking forward to getting the recipes and seeing the pictures for your girls’ night. You’ve really inspired me to set something up with my friends and make a fab-u-lous meal for them!

  28. Brittany on November 3, 2009 at 5:22 pm

Can’t wait to see the photo and recap from girls night! I’m still wishing I could come. 🙂

Also, random question- what kind of ketchup do you use?

    • Fitnessista on November 3, 2009 at 5:43 pm

i wish you could come, too! if you ever want to drive down to v-town, let me know 😀
i either use the annie’s ketchup or the whole foods 365 brand. right now i think i have the whole foods one.

  29. EDK on November 3, 2009 at 7:58 pm

how do you make your butternut squash fries?

    • Fitnessista on November 3, 2009 at 10:42 pm

  30. Melissa (Melissa Likes To Eat) on November 3, 2009 at 8:07 pm

Congrats on the run!!! I have days like that where I get super nervous about a run and then when I’m doing it….I’m loving it!!!

  31. Melissa S. on November 3, 2009 at 8:49 pm

I do the same thing with my car to figure out the mileage!!! we rock like that. but i also use gmap pedometer to map out my course distances. it’s like map my run, but better!

and congrats on the run!!! such a great time with awesome company!

  32. Heather McD (Heather Eats Almond Butter) on November 3, 2009 at 10:25 pm

Love your skull plates, and I eat my pizza the same way…scrape off all the toppings and then enjoy every last bite of crust. Yum.

Hope you enjoyed your night with the girls. I bet they went crazy over all your amazing dishes, and I bet a recap tonight would have been hilarious.

I’m on a hunt for mesquite.

  33. Light Delight with TouTou on November 3, 2009 at 11:09 pm

The Ezekiel tortilla looks like they are made straight out of the whole wheat – so healthy.
btw, those skull plates are really cool:-) adds so much fun for those pairing dish.

  34. Tina on November 4, 2009 at 9:18 am

Ah I’m so jealous looking at your bnut fries and Ezekiels!! I’ve had a squash sitting on my desk for a few weeks now. And I’ve decided…next time I’m at WF I’m making the splurge for the tortillas 😀

    • Fitnessista on November 4, 2009 at 9:36 am

yes, do it! so worth it 😀

  35. Carolyn on November 4, 2009 at 9:37 am

If you have or have been wanting a smartphone like an iphone, Blackberry, or Android phone most of them have apps that will use the GPS on your phone to map your run. The Android market has one called CardioTrainer that will audibly tell you your distance and pace. It can’t tell you your HR, of course, but for me it didn’t make any sense to spend a ton of $ on a Garmin when my phone (that also cost a ton of $) can tell me most of what I need to know.

    • Fitnessista on November 4, 2009 at 9:40 am

good to know! i have a crackberry, i’ll have to check into that. the bummer is that it’s so bulky to run with– i’d have to figure out a good place for it because i don’t think it will fit in my camelbak
