Teaching machine and Indian partyyyyy

Hey everyone! TGIAF!!! Hope some of you have long weekends off work for the holiday. The pilot does, which I LOVE, and an Orlando weekend is definitely going to happen. Megan and her pilot are coming, too and I know it will be a blasty 😉

The round two of aerobics (spin and Zumba) were great but I think it had a lot to do with the fact that a few of my friends were at my classes last night. It definitely kept my energy up even though my poor leggies were definitely dragging by the end!

I had a pretty awesome reward for getting it through 3 aerobics classes:

Dinner at Passage 2 India 😀

003

There were 12 of us, and it was a a lot of fun. As usual, the food rocked my face off.

Pappadum (I had a lot of these- I was starving!)

004

Dippers:

005

I had the usual spicy Baighan Bhartha:

007

Red vino:

006

And whole wheat naan (tandoori roti) with a bite of the pilot’s salmon:

008

Outta control deliciousness. I would eat Indian every day if I could 😉

We stayed at the restaurant until pretty late chatting with everyone and when we got home, I couldn’t shower and get those jammies on fast enough. I sprawled out on one of the couches, passed out, and was carried up the stairs like a little baby by the pilot 😉

I woke up this morning, decided not to walk the puppies so I could do a little yoga –I’ll take them on a short walk this afternoon- because my muscles are in need of serious stretching!

I had a fruit bowl with a chopped apple and a pear:

009

And a nanner on the side:

011

I don’t have all of the supplies to make a green juice, so I’m going to do yoga and then pick one up from the juice bar and take one to Megan 😀

I have 5 training appointments today (and this isn’t even the busy season!) so I’m going to spend a little time this afternoon reading by the pool before heading to work.

I’ll see ya tonight!
Have a wonderful day <3

xoxo,

G

reese- YES! i'm dead today and definitely moving a little slowly this morning. i'll be fine by this afternoon though 🙂

  12. Diana on July 2, 2009 at 10:42 am

Whoa – I guess I shouldn't be surprised that your training schedule gets heavier seasonally – am I right to assume you're busiest at New Year's? Seems like ideally you wouldn't be busier at one time of the year or other, but I guess that's how it works. 🙂

Oh and re: your previous post, I think I have probably MEMORIZED Center Stage. I LOOOVE dance movies and my tolerance for really bad acting is way higher when I watch them. ;D

I totally woke up this morning realizing that I should have made a comment on your proper fueling/metabolism post.
Based on the experiences of a couple friends, if you are eating healthily and exercising and start gaining weight, you may also want to get your thyroid checked.
I have 2 friend's who have had them removed. One definitely had about a 10 pound difference depending (prior to thyroid removal) on how well her thyroid medicine was interacting with whatever her thyroid was doing- although her weight has always fallen into the "normal" category. Now its out and she's on thyroid medicine alone, and her weight is healthy and stable.
My other friend was very overweight with no obvious reason and had triglycerides that were so high the Dr. was surprised he hadn't had a heart attack. (He was 30). Once his thyroid was removed and he began taking medicine he lost so much weight.
The bottom line- since you were able to make changes that corrected the problems with your metabolism you were seeing, it is probably unlikely that you have a thyroid issue. But if someone is having stubborn weight gain or loss for no obvious reason, they should see a Dr. before writing it off as just their metabolism. It could stem from a number of medical issues including a malfunctioning thyroid. 🙂

Hi Gina, sorry to leave such a long comment but I couldn't find your e-mail.

I was hoping I could get some advice from you. I told you a little about my situation in one of your recent posts. Recently my cardio has been increased from what was my standard of 45-50 min. a day to 75-90 min a day and I've gone from burning 400 calories daily to closer to 700-800 (I wear a polar). The increase in my cardio has been for a variety of reasons, including training for an event, and due to the fact that I'm studying for my personal training certification and plan on teaching classes I will likely always have long cardio days.

I've gone from eating 1700 calories a day (About) to 1800-2000 since the increase. I'm also 5'91/2 (123pds) typically, small framed, and recently I noticed my jeans were getting tigher around my thighs in particular. I then stepped on the scale and found I gained 2-3 pounds! Knowing that you went through the same thing, I was hoping I could get some advice on what you did in this situation. I don't know if I should decrease my calorie intake and cardio, increase it, or what. I don't want to gain any more weight.

I really, really appreciate your input, thank you.

I LOVE dance movies!!! They are the best…now I just wish I could get my boyfriend to enjoy watching them with me 🙂

Hope you have an awesome long weekend in Orlando!

  21. MarathonVal on July 2, 2009 at 12:34 pm

My sis was just telling me that she likes Zumba – do you have to be coordinated? It sounds fun but I stink at the dance classes where you have to be coordinated with your feet and steps and ahhhh I am getting dizzy just thinking about it!

  22. Christina on July 2, 2009 at 1:00 pm

Dinner looks so great! How have I not gotten to an Indian restaurant yet?!

  23. Nerd Girl on July 2, 2009 at 1:41 pm

  24. Joelle (Chasing Pavements) on July 2, 2009 at 1:42 pm

You know, i have never eaten Indian food before, but that Naan looks simply amazing!

  25. runjen on July 2, 2009 at 1:53 pm

What is the update on Megan's blog? Wasn't she going to start one awhile back?

Have a fabulous weekend with your pilot!!

  26. brandi on July 2, 2009 at 1:55 pm

ooh, you guys should have a fun weekend! the Indian looks great as always. I need to look for a good Indian place here.

    enjoy your day!

    Enjoy your pool time!

Have a blast this weekend, too! 🙂

  28. Fitnessista on July 2, 2009 at 2:42 pm

decayed gentlewoman- that is an excellent point, thanks for bringing that up!

ashley- from what it sounds like, you aren't eating enough or as the comment above you indicated, it could also be a sign of a medical issue or thyroid problem. it's definitely hard for me to give advice about this because i've never met you, don't know your body fat percentage, exact eating habits, etc. but personally, i think it sounds more like your body could be in starvation mode because you are burning way more calories than you're eating. i'd say add in an extra snack or small meal (about 200-300 calories) and see how your body reacts.

marathonval- you should totally try it! it's so much fun!!!! and as far as the coordination goes, a lot of the dances repeat the same moves- you'll catch on

nerdgirl- i've also tried and loved the goa shrimp, channa masala, veg jalfreezi (sp?) and a black lentil dish i can't remember the name of. also, if you like chicken, back in my meat-eating days i would always get chili chicken or the chicken tikka masala.

runjen- she's still planning on it but her life has been a little hectic lately (her pilot is going to be deployed soon and they're moving out of their apartment). she's going to eventually though and you guys will be the first to know 😀

I don't think I have ever commented before but I have been reading for AGES! I am a huge Indian food fan and everytime I see it on your blog, wish I was heading out to a restaurant instead of eating at home, lol. I think I need to break my restaurant-free streak with some dahl!

  32. Anonymous on July 2, 2009 at 3:57 pm

Hi, I'm an admirer of your blog. You inspired me to try Baignon Bhartha & naan. Yummmmo. You're awesome!!

  33. Ashley on July 2, 2009 at 5:01 pm

Thanks for all your help Gina! I just had one more question for you, in order to repair your metabolism did you have to take a week off from exercise? Also, Another reader asked this question a couple posts ago but maybe you didn't see it. did you just add more calories and find that you lost weight?

  34. Erica on July 2, 2009 at 10:18 pm

I have seriously never eaten at an indian restaurant lol. I will have to check one out. And I just was going through your blog and realized you are from Arizona! Yayyy! I live in Phoenix actually. I know I am pretty far from Tucson, but maybe you know of some good Indian restaurants in Phoenix? And thank you for the response to my other comment, I cant wait to see the "healthy eating on a budget" blog, that will REALLY help me out.
