The Bfast Cookie

Heyyyyy 😀 Hope your Monday is treating you well!

I thought I’d start the morning off with a how-to video on the little breakfast beauty I came up with a couple of years ago. Since my eating style has changed over the years, this new breakfast cookie includes my current modifications, but please alter it to suit your nutritional preferences and needs.

Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients:

-1/3 C oat groats ground into flour (or 1/3 C old fashioned oats)

-1/2 scoop protein powder (I prefer Sun Warrior but back in the dairy days, it was all about the Designer Whey)

-cinnamon, pinch of sea salt

-1/8 C – 1/4 C milk of choice (I roll with almond)

– 1 T nut butter of choice (raw almond butter is the fave here)

-1/2 smashed banana

-mix-ins!!! Mesquite, cinnamon, cacao, maca, goji berries, pumpkin, dried fruit, whatever you’re feeling

bfast cookie

Have you tried a breakfast cookie? What’s your favorite combo???

It’s WORKOUT TIME (wahoo!!!) then tax time over here *shudders* See ya this afternoon!

xoxo,

Gina

This was great! Thank you. I cracked up at “Seksi Pilot Media.”

A couple of suggestions, on a nerdy tech note:

You have the OpenSky intro video posted on your breakfast cookie page where you want this video (I think!) to be instead.

Also, you might consider filming your next video without background music. It’s nice and all but it sort of interferes with your voice, in my opinion. Dubbing it over afterwards as a soundtrack is another story.

You have such a wonderful presence and energy. I’m looking 4ward to the next Fitnessista production!

      thanks melissa!
i changed my link snafu- thank you for letting me know 🙂
all of your tips were extremely helpful <3

        You are most welcome! 🙂

Ugh, the husband is doing our taxes halfway round the world right now thankfully!

Love the vid, love breakfast cookies. In fact, my elder and I ate two for breakfast today (my wee is sick).

My spiralizer just came yesterday and I’m so excited to use it after seeing so many bloggers recommend them.

hope you’re feeling better and the workout is great!

Great video. You have a knack for TV!
Quickie question: I have some brown rice flour in the pantry…will that work for my first b’fast cookie attempt? Or should I wait until I get to the store to get some oat groats? Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on March 15, 2010 at 9:29 pm

ehhh i don’t think it would taste as good. definitely try it with some kind of oats for the first time 🙂

I loved the video! I’ve made breakfast cookies a few times, but I definitely picked up tips from your how-to video 🙂

  5. Diana @ Fit Girls on the Go on March 15, 2010 at 6:45 pm

Thanks for the video! I’ve made breakfast cookies before but definitely picked up a few new pointers, like adding milk before the banana!

Using organic pureed pumpkin instead of banana makes for an awesome pumpkin pie breakfast cookie. Some pumpkin pie spice and extra cinnamon makes it extra delish!

What a wonderful cinematographer you have 😉

you live in Georgia? Im going to be in Ga. from 4-23 til 4-25 Id love to take one of your Zumba classes!!

    • Fitnessista on March 15, 2010 at 9:28 pm

yup, i live in georgia. sadly, i teach on the air force base here though- not to the public :/

  9. s on March 15, 2010 at 8:15 pm

    lolol seksi pilot media 🙂

i make these all the time but i don’t think i’ve been adding enough almond milk now that i see how they’re made (mine always end up kinda weird textured haha). thanks for the video!

  10. katelyn on March 15, 2010 at 8:45 pm

what do you think the nutritionals are for that cookie?

    • Fitnessista on March 15, 2010 at 9:27 pm

the one i made was 360 without the chia goodness about 400 with it 🙂

  11. Allie on March 15, 2010 at 10:41 pm

love the video- it was very informative. thanks! and the credits had me laughing.

  12. Jean on March 15, 2010 at 10:54 pm

Thanks for the video! It helps to see how the bfast cookie goddess makes hers. 🙂 But my ADD kicked in w/the background music (distracted). I always think about having a cookie in the morning – too late then…I’m gonna go make one now!

  13. Gena on March 16, 2010 at 8:14 am

    YAY!

Loved watching your video, beautiful lady. And though I have yet to make a brekkie cookie, rest assured that it is on the agenda!!! xoxo

  14. mmclaughlin on March 16, 2010 at 6:23 pm

I’ve made them several times! My favorite mix-ins are a little orange extract (or fresh orange juice), dried sweet cranberries, and almonds. Amazing, and very fresh tasting!

  15. Michelle on March 16, 2010 at 7:25 pm

Great video! I tried making a bfast cookie a couple weeks back and the consistency didn’t seem right. Do you always ground your oats? Maybe that’s the difference. I hadn’t thought of that. What are your thoughts??

    • Fitnessista on March 16, 2010 at 8:18 pm

nope, you can use regular rolled oats but i liked the smoother texture

  16. Katie on March 16, 2010 at 8:39 pm

I love the video! And the credits are fabulous! I love breakfast cookies. My favorite mix ins are vegan choc chips and dried cranberries.

  17. Alison on March 17, 2010 at 11:24 am

    Hi Gina,

I tried making a breakfast cookie the past 2 days and both days it was still mush in the morning and I had to eat it with a fork. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks for all your tips!

    • Fitnessista on March 17, 2010 at 11:33 am

you always have to eat it with a utensil– sorry i should have added it in there! it gets a little firmer, but still slightly mushy

      • Alison on March 17, 2010 at 12:26 pm

I see – I thought you picked it up and ate it like an actual cookie! It was still delicious, more like breakfast cookie dough!
        Thanks!

        • Fitnessista on March 17, 2010 at 12:32 pm

hahah yes, more like dough than an actual baked cookie 🙂

  18. Aya on March 17, 2010 at 11:17 pm

Hey, I totally dig this video! I always see the lil breakfast cookie around this blog (and some other blogs as well), and I’ve been dying to try it.

    Is it possible to do this without the protein powder? I think I can round up the other ingredients and be able to use them in other things, but I feel like I would neglect the protein powder. >___<;

    • Fitnessista on March 18, 2010 at 9:49 am

yeah definitely. i just like the protein for the nutritional reasons 🙂

  19. Dana (www.eatsleepgetfit.com) on March 21, 2010 at 12:16 am

Thanks for posting this video! I am totally going to try and make one now!

  20. Kari on April 6, 2010 at 3:35 pm

i made a breakfast cookie for today following your recipe almost exactly and it turned out awesome! i can tell this is going to become a new breakfast staple for me 🙂 thanks for the video!

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2010 at 3:42 pm

i’m so glad you liked it! <3 xoxo

  21. Desi on July 21, 2010 at 7:06 pm

    HI Gina!

I just discovered your site and I really like it! I want to make this breakfast cookie, and I just had a question about the protein powder. Which flavor do you use? Vanilla, chocolate, unflavored? Also, which is your favorite for making protein shakes? I’m just curious because I currently use Nutribiotic vegan rice protein (chocolate), and I love it, but I’ve never heard of Sun Warrior before and I’m anxious to try it!

    Thanks so much!

    Desi

    • Fitnessista on July 21, 2010 at 10:12 pm

i prefer vanilla because if you want to do chocolate, you can add cacao powder
if you like nutribiotic, you will LOVE sun warrior. it’s far less chalky and tastes amazing 🙂

  22. Rita on October 14, 2010 at 9:42 am

Hi Fitnessista. I LOVE your blog. How do I cook the breakfast cookie? The video won’t play on my computer for some reason. Thanks.

    • Fitnessista on October 14, 2010 at 10:06 am

there’s a tutorial post on the page, too 🙂

  23. steffy on June 1, 2011 at 2:03 pm

  24. steffy on June 1, 2011 at 4:52 pm

hey sorry to ask another question. i run in the morning is it ok to eat this after you run or before?

    • Fitnessista on June 1, 2011 at 10:12 pm

either! you can have it before, or have half a banana before and eat the cookie after 🙂

  25. Kenda on August 26, 2011 at 10:00 am

I am studying to be a nursing assistant and I start my clinical in a nursing home tomorrow. I have to be awake very early and I just made this for my breakfast. (now I can wake up later and eat breakfast while I’m driving!!! I love my sleep a little too much!)

  27. Natasha on October 19, 2012 at 2:00 pm

    Hi,
I love all your recipes but why don’t you ever put any of the nutritional information? I would love for you to add that as well. It just always makes me feel so much more comfortable knowing the calories, fat, barb, protein and sugar content.
Thanks and keep up the great work!!!

    • Michelle on October 24, 2012 at 4:41 pm

I agree. I use to be a raw vegan, but now I’m a pescotarian. Gourmet raw foods such as this breakfast cookie recipe are loaded with calories, sugars, fat and sodium. I’m really big on clean lean foods. On the flip side, it does look really tasty :p

I came here from your e-mail. I’ve been following you for a couple years. Thanks for being such an inspiration. I loved the Seksi Pilot Media at the end. Have a great day!
