The Honeymooners

Hey everyone! How are ya??

beach

Hope your day is off to a great start 🙂

Last night, we had a blasty exploring the resort and surrounding area.

Our first stop was the beach.

me

The water here is SO WARM! I’m usually a giant chicken and haaaate cold water, but I can actually see myself swimming  doggy-paddling around in there 😉

It’s pretty exciting because there’s actually a reason why we’re here in the Bahamas- it’s our HONEYMOON 🙂 That’s right, almost 3 years after being married, we’re finally going on our honeymoon. Better late than never, eh?? When we got married, the original plan was to take a low-key trip to Vegas (since our wedding was ginormous), but the pilot ended up having to be at work for training that Monday. Ever since then we’ve either been moving, or the pilot has had military schtuff, so the fact that he got to take some time off and vacay with me is pretty baller 🙂

pilot

For dinner, we went to one of the casual restaurants that faces the ocean and is on the sand, so you can dine barefoot.

We had some delicious wheaty bread:

Share a tuna cobb salad with no cheese:

I munched the Ahi tuna, which came with a papaya and pineapple salsa and bok choy:

The pilot chose the tempura sea bass and asparagus:

bass

It was pretty glorious, and a sweet deal is that the resort is all-inclusive so we don’t see a bill for our eats and drinks while we’re here. (I’ll tell ya’ll where we’re staying on Tuesday)

We laid in a hammock: (where I could very easily spend the rest of the week)

hammock

(My feet are the ones on the right, heh heh)

Did the late-night swim thang:

And the resort had a lovely 10pm CHOCOLATE BUFFET and wine tasting. This was definitely a moment where I was like, “Where am I??? These people want to give me chocolate and wine at 10pm?? Whoever decided to do this is a genius… that’s all I have to say.”

chocolate buffet

The pilot and I shared these little plates of joy:

chocolate

and it was foodgasmic. Our favorites were the fudgy brownies with raspberry on top and the chocolate and marzipan with macadamia nuts on top. YUM.

We came back and called it a pretty early night since we were tired from traveling.

The plan for the day is:

– Insanity (Core Cardio and Balance)

– Breakfast

– Beach/Pool

– The Art of Shell Painting (for real! haha)

– Bahamian Line Dancing (yeahhhhh)

– Weights

– Fancy Schmancy Dinner

See ya later today with some pics <3

So beautiful! We went to Jamacha for our Homeymoon all inclusive is the best way to travel! Have a great trip!

For the summer work out I would like to see an at home work out plan. It is easier for me with 2 young children to get my work outs done at home rather than taking kids to the gym or finding a sitter. My 2 cents!

  2. Beth on May 12, 2010 at 10:51 am

Ohhhhh I’m so jealous! I’m getting married 9.10.11 and can’t wait for the honeymoon!

What do you think of outdoor workouts for the summer shapeup?!?!

  3. Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches on May 12, 2010 at 10:52 am

I want to go somewhere where I can have some crazy adventures that me and my future hubbie will always remember. I think New Zealand would be amazing for that sort of thing. Beautiful scenery + loads of possibilities for outdoor adventure! While I enjoy beaches to a certain extent, I think I would get bored of them for more than a couple days. Brazil would also be cool!

  4. Elizabeth on May 12, 2010 at 10:57 am

Hi Gina. I hope you are having an awesome time. It looks beautiful there!! I am psyched to see what you plan for the summer shape up! You asked about requests …. in some of your recent posts, you had talked about quality over quantity. I would love to see some short, killer routines that could be done at home or at a gym. I never have long to spend at the gym, usually about an hour, so when I try to do routines that are 40 min of cardio and then 40 minutes of weights, I can never finish. Also, being a person with a bad knee and hip, I would love to see routines that do not involve a lot of exercises that are really hard on the joints. The insanity workouts really sound great to me, but as you said, if you have problems with knees, hips …. they are not for you. Sorry for this rambling comment!!!

  5. Cara on May 12, 2010 at 10:59 am

    awww happy Honeymoon!!!

I would like to see more cardio options and a swim workout!

  6. Ryane on May 12, 2010 at 11:01 am

    Awww, Happy Honeymoon!!!!

I don’t know how this would work, but would there be a way for you to do a video as though you’re instructing a Zumba class with US? I don’t know if you have a cap to how long a video you can take with your flip or otherwise… but I know you love Zumba and it’d be fun to have the option to do it at home first before trying it locally…
otherwise I think a combo of gym and home would be sweet… (you should do some pictures of the moves while you’re on the beach, for the summer theme.. haha)

  7. andrea on May 12, 2010 at 11:04 am

Hope you have a wonderful time. Love to see that you are relaxing (a little) on your personal food rules – it feels like it gives me premission to do the same. Hubs and I celebrate 18 years this weekend. Bring on the chocolate!

Reader request – compound exercises please. Love to have shorter workouts that involve more of the body.

  8. Maria on May 12, 2010 at 11:04 am

I just started INSANITY!! Today’s my third day and I love it so far. For summer workouts though, I usually go run outside so this in home workout is new for me.

  9. Mia on May 12, 2010 at 11:05 am

Have fun and savor every moment…it stinks heading back to reality after. My husband and I went to Sandals (all inclusive) in St. Lucia. We were upgraded to the butler service when we arrived. It was FABULOUS! We had our own pool and our suite (more like apt.) overlooked the ocean. I would highly recommend Sandals in St. Lucia. It was some of the best customer service I have ever received. The only thing I would change is not having the AI b/c we didn’t drink anywhere near the amount we paid. We did however enjoy all of the fresh fruits and healthy options.
Congratulations on the honeymoon and have a blast!

  10. Salah@myhealthiestlifestyle on May 12, 2010 at 11:05 am

oh wow you guys are going to have the BEST time! Better late than never to have a honeymoon! I can’t wait to hear more about your time there!

  11. Melissa Strickland on May 12, 2010 at 11:05 am

Hi Gina!! I am glad to see you are having a wonderful time on your honeymoon. I am a lurker and avid reader of your page. I have a question for you, though. I just had a baby and in about a month I will be eager to get into an exercise routine to drop the rest of my baby weight. My job does provide a free, 24 hour gym for employees to use and I’ve been trying to figure out how I can utilize it…if I go in the morning before work or during lunch, I risk offending my co-workers with my post-workout funk…and if I go after work, I will risk being late picking up my daughter from daycare. It seems the best thing would be to work out in the morning before work, but I’m really not sure how to do it without having an offending body odor. There are showers, but they are NASTY. Any suggestions?

  12. Kay on May 12, 2010 at 11:06 am

Glad you’re having fun! I would LOVE to see at home workouts! I am too poor for a gym 🙁 And I would love to see some different cardio options. I am not a runner, but I do enjoy some good cardio. I love the shape ups!

  13. Catherine on May 12, 2010 at 11:06 am

Outdoor workouts, please. I’ve been doing your intermediate weight training workouts for about 2 weeks now, and I really love what weights have been doing for my body. I was in a runner’s rut for sure. 🙂 Thanks so much, Gina!

  14. Christine on May 12, 2010 at 11:06 am

at home workouts, please. just canceled my gym member$hip 🙂

  15. Leigh on May 12, 2010 at 11:07 am

Have a blast! I’m getting married in a few weeks, and cannot WAIT for the honeymoon! We are going to the British Virgin Islands…one week on Guana Island (a private resort island) to veg and recuperate from the wedding, and the second week another couple is meeting us and we are chartering a boat to cruise around the BVI! It’s a trip of a lifetime for us 🙂

  16. Elizabeth on May 12, 2010 at 11:08 am

    Hi, Gina!

I have been following your blog for a few weeks now and I would love to participate in your summer shape up! I live out in the praries of North Dakota and have no gym for miles. An at home workout is pretty much the only way I can participate although I was considering just going through your winter shape up program.

Enjoy your honeymoon! We rented a gorgeous cabin surrounded by 2 ft+ of snow. It was beautiful and perfect for a February honeymoon!

  17. McPinks on May 12, 2010 at 11:13 am

    Happy Honeymoon!!!

I would love to see at home workouts for sure! I cancelled my gym mebership and have been using DVD’s and the “dreadmill” ever since…..Some treadmill programs would be awesome too for when the weather is craptacular. I also agree with a previous poster about shorter workouts.

  18. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on May 12, 2010 at 11:13 am

I think everyone and their mother knows about our honeymoon… but yeah, we went to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and it was THE BEST TIME I’ve ever had. It was gorgeous, relaxing, and the food was fab. I want to know what resort you’re at though… Have a blast!!!

  19. sarah on May 12, 2010 at 11:17 am

Can’t wait to find out the name of the resort! We didn’t take our honeymoon either, but I’m looking into doing that at some point and definitely wanted to do an all-inclusive that has yummy food!

Congrats you two! You guys look like newlyweds all the time anyway 🙂

  20. Whitney @ Whitinspired on May 12, 2010 at 11:18 am

So pretty…Yay for you guys finally being able to take one! Enjoy yourselves! We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon…10 days in paradise. It was absolutely beautiful and we talk about the food weekly. As far as the summer shape up goes, how about free weights. That way I can/we can do them at home or at the gym.

  21. Katie on May 12, 2010 at 11:19 am

can we do some indoor and outdoor workouts? i’d love to get a nice workout in the morning or evening when it’s not too hot and to spend some time outdoors as well! i love the idea of shorter, more intense workouts, too!

  22. rachael on May 12, 2010 at 11:20 am

Awww! Have a wonderful honeymoon! We went to Antigua for ours and it was pretty glorious:)

  23. Bethany @ Not Unless I'm Being Chased on May 12, 2010 at 11:22 am

Our honeymoon was at an all-inclusive in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It was AMAZING. I loved the all-inclusive deal. You’re so much freer to really enjoy the vacation not having to worry about the money situation. I recommend it to all honeymooners — that way you can focus on your honey.
My favorite memory from the trip was the guided waterfall hike we took. You actually walk IN the waterfall up to the top and they stop and take incredible pictures of you. 🙂

  24. Stephanie @ See Stephanie Run on May 12, 2010 at 11:25 am

Your Honeymoon trip looks Amazing! We live at the beach so I doubt there will be any beach tropical honeymoon in my future, but those all-inclusive resorts just seem so convenient and Amazing!

  25. Steph on May 12, 2010 at 11:31 am

I’ve been “stalking” your site for awhile now ~love, love, love~ and wanted to weigh in on your Summer Shape Up. Home workouts! Please.

    I’m very excited about it!

Married last year and no time for a honeymoon yet but I think we’ll get there next year! Your Bahama resort looks like an amazing place for a honeymoon.

    Cheers.

    Happy honeymoon 🙂

Our honeymoon at the end of September is to Piedmont, Italy…we’ll be cycling through the countryside, stopping at vineyards along the way!

  27. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on May 12, 2010 at 11:40 am

Wow! I can’t believe that is all inclusive. Holy moly that looks fantastic

  28. Karissa @ CardioFoodie on May 12, 2010 at 11:41 am

We went to Sandals Jamaica for our honeymoon- it is actually looks very similar to wherever you are staying; we also had a chocolate bar night. Our honeymoon was amazing! Two years later though and we haven’t taken a single vacation!

  29. Ilana on May 12, 2010 at 11:44 am

This. Is so freaking cute. I’m so jealous of that blue blue water – right here everything is gray and cold and raining and I don’t want to leave the house if I dont absolutely NEED to.

Dream honeymoon locale – anywhere with a gorgeous exotic beach. I found the perfect place for a honeymoon when I was in Thailand, but since I’ve already been there, I guess I’ll hafta pick somewhere else.

I second all the above for “at home workouts!”

  30. Emily N on May 12, 2010 at 11:47 am

Not exactly a honeymoon story, but my boyfriend surprised me with a trip to Cuba for my bday. The last two days, I came down with a terrible bug and was confined to the hotel room. The vacay took a turn away from romantic during the time but our sense of humor preserved! There was really nothing to do but laugh.
Have SO much fun! looks amazing!

  31. Mellissa on May 12, 2010 at 11:51 am

Enjoy your belated honeymoon! Better late than never. We went to Italy for 2 and half weeks for our wedding and honeymoon.

  32. erin on May 12, 2010 at 11:57 am

My husband and I have yet to take our real honeymoon – we got married in August right before my school year started so only had time for a ‘mini-moon’ before we had to return to real life 🙁 I’m waiting for the day when we have enough time/money for a glorious honeymoon like it looks like you’re having! ENJOY!!!

  33. Katalina @ GreenLivingNewYork on May 12, 2010 at 11:58 am

Gina I am so so so happy for you!!!! we plan to go in our honeymoon to Figi or Maldives, check on the internet how beautiful it is, well, its like Bahamas! 34. Taysa (Water, Butter and Wine) on May 12, 2010 at 11:58 am

    Your vacation looks amazing!

I would also love to see some at-home workouts. I don’t have a gym membership, so anything I can do in my living room would be great!

  35. Johnna on May 12, 2010 at 12:03 pm

WOW – makes me want my trip to Mexico this October to come quicker!

For our honeymoon (which we were on exactly one year ago this week) we went to Jamaica (Ocho Rios) and stayed at the BEST all inclusive – COUPLES. No tipping, no kids, all you can eat/drink and the best staff. We toyed with going to Italy (Santorini) and France, originally wanted Thailand but then I lost my job due to downsizing and decided to just get hitched/honeymoon all at one place. It was more affordable due to my circumstances and it was wonderful!

As far as summer workouts – We cancelled our gym membership last year and haven’t looked back since. I own a nice selection of videos that I use frequently or we run (outside or on treadmill) & bike on our wonderful bike trails. We also have a wide selection of weights that we use. It was the best decision we made and we are really staying on track with our work-outs. But we could always use some new motivating ideas for kick-a$$ work-outs!!

Have a wonderful time – it looks fabulous, wherever you are in the Bahamas!

  36. Tracy on May 12, 2010 at 12:05 pm

Happy honeymooning! My husband and I went to Punta Cana for our honeymoon 2 years ago. We looooooved it there and are hoping to go back for our 5 year anniversary!
For the shape-up series, I would be interested in some treadmill interval workouts.

  37. Ali on May 12, 2010 at 12:08 pm

Congratulations on your honeymoon! Better late than never is right! I had a very small intimate wedding so we could have a 19 day honeymoon throughout Europe, starting in London and ending in Athens. It was an amazing time, as I’m sure your honeymoon will be too! 🙂

I would like to see home workouts in the Summer Shape Up. I just started to do week 1 from last year and there are a few things I can’t do because of the equipment needed. I’m looking forward to this year’s Summer Shape Up!

    Enjoy your honeymoon!

  38. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on May 12, 2010 at 12:09 pm

Anywhere with a chocolate and wine bar at 10 pm sounds like absolute heaven to me!! And don’t even get me started on that seafood…ahi tuna with papaya? You’re one lucky lady! Enjoy that beautiful place- better late than never!!

I will definitely be going somewhere WARM on my honeymoon. I hate to be cold, so a tropical climate is my only request!!

  39. Katie@ Two Lives, One Lifestyle on May 12, 2010 at 12:15 pm

Looks amazing- happy honeymoon! I think a warm beach location would be a perfect honeymoon. From seeing some friends plan weddings, I’m pretty sure I’ll just want to lay on a beach and relax afterward!

  42. Sarah on May 12, 2010 at 12:33 pm

I would love to see some workouts that involve free weights. I’m getting married next year and we are planning on honeymooning in Napa valley. We both love wine and I’ve heard that the food is also amazing. I can’t wait!
    Enjoy your honeymoon!

Love the warm ocean pictures. Drooling over here.
The husband and I went to Hawaii. Maui and Kauaii to be exact. It was a paradise…almost seemed like a fantasy. *day dreams*

  44. Jess on May 12, 2010 at 12:36 pm

My hubby and I went to Belize on our honeymoon. It rained quite a bit while we were there because a tropical depression moved in. They had record flooding and people we being lifted over bridged the buckets of construction equipment. It was insane! Lucky for us it rained mainly at night so we still got to enjoy the sun.

  45. Catherine on May 12, 2010 at 12:43 pm

I actually just booked my honeymoon last week (it had to be done a year in advance) to spend 10 days climbing Mt Kilimanjaro followed by a safari in Tanzania. So excited!!

I’d love some gym workouts – heavier on non-weight related exercises though. I love running, doing planks & mountain climbers, but weight lifting always makes me bored for some reason.

    • Miriam on May 12, 2010 at 1:01 pm

Wow this a cool idea for honeymoon 🙂

  46. Erin on May 12, 2010 at 12:46 pm

OMGGGGGGGGGG your vaca looks amazing! HELLO, chocolate buffet!!!

This is my first post, I’ve been a bit of a lurker, but I have to say how much I LOVE your blog!
I’m even more excited about summer shape up 2010 b/c I’m actually following summer shape up 2009 right NOW!

I can’t wait to see what you have for us 🙂
I love that you have exercises that incorporate our own body weight instead of using the static weight machines all the time. I also like that you use exercises we can feel comfortable doing at the gym on our own (without having to be uber experienced). Lastly, (definitely not least!) I live by your elliptical interval workout! More ideas like that would be fantastic!!!

Can’t wait, enjoy the rest of your honeymoon 🙂
