the mickeyron to my heart

You know, just hanging out with her BFF.

Livi and minnie

Hi friends! How’s your week going? I hope you had a wonderful weekend and a lovely Valentine’s Day! I’m so happy that you’re excited for the final week of WSU. Keep the check-ins coming.

Our Valentine’s Day was a memorable one, indeed.

The girls

The girls woke up to roses and cards,

Roses

Livis rose

(we signed cards for the Pilot, too)

Livi surprised us with this gorgeous heart garland she made at school,

Heart garland

and we told Liv and P that we were headed to Disneyland. Needless to say, they were pretty stoked about it.

Livi and p rose

It was our first road trip with Miss P, and we wanted to test the waters out now that she’s feeling better, and also see how realistic it would be for a longer car trip to Tucson. The verdict: we all had a blast, and despite everything we had to pack, it was relaxing and wonderful. We went into it with zero expectations, and figured that we’d just enjoy some time as a family. We ended up seeing and doing a ton, while keeping it super low key. One of the best parts: Betsy and her fam were in the LA for the weekend, so we got to meet up with them at Disney.

Liv was in heaven, of course.

Disneyland

Dumbo

We alternated staying back with P -I think the rides would freak her out- and took Liv on her favorite rides,

Scary clown

(can we just talk about the creepy clown in Small World for a moment? Everything is so happy and whimsical until you see the clown of darkness floating ominously in the corner…)

and took pics with the characters. I felt bad for them on Monday because it was a scorcher, and the costumes looked hot and heavy, but it didn’t stop them from being hilarious and 100% devoted to their characters.

Livi and olaf

Olaf sauntered over to the stroller and tried to wake up P from her nap! What a troublemaker, haha.

Fam w olaf

Liv also got to be Minnie’s “special helper” and accompany her through the park to her backstage exit. The pure joy on her face was everything.

Liv and minnie

While we were there, we partook in the delicious Disney food and drinks, including:

this bottomless margarita, which was consumed over P’s head and

Margarita over ps head

the quintessential Mickey-shaped treat. This time it was a salted caramel macaron that was tooooooo dieeeeeee foorrrrrr. Livi took one bite and claimed it as her own.

Roon

(Photo taken before eating one ear, and the rest was long gone haha.)

We’ve already started a list of things we want to do, or do more often, since this is likely our last year in San Diego. (We have no idea where we’re headed next, or what’s going on at all. It’s exciting and drives me bonkers at the same time.) We have lots of beach trips on there, and impromptu Disney road trips. I like how a Valentine’s Day getaway has become a semi-tradition, since one of the times we’ve gone with Liv happened to be on Heart Day, two years ago. Quite a bit has changed since then, and it was so fun to have P there with us. 🙂

This morning, I’m tackling the laundry and unpacking mountain, and then taking the girls to play at the Children’s Museum. I’m excited to hit up the gym tonight after a couple of days off.

Hope you have a wonderful day and I’ll see ya later!

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: Have you been to Disneyland? What’s your favorite ride? What about favorite Disneyland-only treat/meal? I go crazy for the Mickey rich crispies, and the Dole floats.

I adore Disneyland! Minus the clowns. Haha! Is it just me or has Liv grown a foot? She looks so big!

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:37 am

      she is SO big. *sobs*

I always feel so bad for the costumed characters on days like yesterday when it was blazing hot here in So-Cal! I don’t know how they did it!

I love Disneyland! My pass actually expires this week and I’m not renewing it. Sigh. My favorite ride is Pirates of the Caribbean. I think I could ride it every day and be ridiculously content.

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:37 am

ahhh i love that one, too! i’m excited for the day when liv wants to ride it 🙂

OMD those DISNEY DOLE FLOATS. That is all. Oh, and adorable pics. Looks like a great time with the fam! <3

  5. mary on February 16, 2016 at 7:31 am

We watched some old Travel Channel shows about Disneyland last night to cheer up my sad daughter. I think we need to plan a trip. We go about yearly. We love New Orleans Square best.

They have bottomless margaritas??? At CA Adventure somewhere?

I’ve been eating your Nana’s egg dish (lightened up some) for breakfast for the past week and I’m kind of obsessed. ; )

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:37 am

aww i hope she’s feeling better soon <3 disney is always a great way to cheer them up
the margarita was bottomless because we got a pitcher for the table at tortilla jo's. every time i set down my glass it was refilled haha
so happy you're loving the egg dish. it's my favorite food in the whole world <3

  6. mary on February 16, 2016 at 7:40 am

Oh and… where is the macaron from? Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:36 am

it’s from the bakery on main street. they have everything in there!

  7. linz on February 16, 2016 at 7:49 am

So cute! Bottomless margarita you say…? We are going to Disneyland for the first time in May with our soon-to-be 3 year old and love seeing these posts! If you did a write up on favorite rides for little ones, I’d love to see it! (or if you haven’t, feel free to write recommendations!)

liv loves dumbo, the carousel, teacups, and small world. the character rides in fantasyland still freak her out, so we don’t go on a ton of those yet. the parade and disney junior show are also amazing

  8. Liz on February 16, 2016 at 7:50 am

We’re looking at a move to San Diego. Now that you’ve been there for a while, do you have a sense of the best neighborhoods to live in with kids?

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:34 am

it depends if you want to live in the city, or in north county. north county has GREAT schools and beautiful neighborhoods. it’s safe, quiet and you get a lot more house for your money. in the city, it’s more expensive and busier. point loma is my fave area

  9. Amalia on February 16, 2016 at 7:59 am

    So fun!
My husband and I are planning on taking our 3 year old in May for his 4th birthday. Our baby will be 5 months old at that point. Any tips?? I’m a little nervous going with the baby, although I’m sure it will be much easier than wrangling two “big kids”. Did you guys rent a stroller or bring your own?

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:32 am

it was way easier than i was anticipating. one of you can ride the rides with your birthday guy, and the other can hang out in the shade with the baby. we just alternated doing that, and p slept in the stroller or in my arms. if your baby likes the baby carrier, that can be a lifesaver too. we brought our own stroller since p isn’t big enough for an umbrella stroller yet.

I would LOVE to go to Disneyland! One of my hopes is that I can run a race there in the near future!

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:30 am

their races are the best. super crowded, but a lot of fun

  11. Anna on February 16, 2016 at 8:34 am

I loved going to Disneyland as a kid! Space mountain was alway my favorite.

I’ve heard the food has become super allergy friendly with great gluten free options. If you have a food intolerance or allergy, you’re allowed to bring in your own snacks if you declare them when you enter!

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:30 am

anyone can bring in snacks! and you’re right about it being super allergy-friendly. i’ve heard the chefs are really accommodating if you have special requests — one of my friend’s kiddos has a lot of food allergies and they’ve been awesome about it

  12. Samantha on February 16, 2016 at 8:38 am

We lived in Orlando when I was younger and would make day trips to Disney (or even just for breakfast at Epcot). It is some of my most precious memories and you don’t realize how special it is until you’re older (and realize mot people have never been!)! Go as often as you can and make memories for those little ones! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:22 am

that is so cool! you’re right- it makes such awesome memories. we used to go often when i was a kid, and it was always so much fun

  13. Sana on February 16, 2016 at 8:38 am

When I went to Disneyland as a kid back in 1997, I distinctively recall my parents having a BLAST. I am glad everyone can have a lot of fun at the parks.

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:21 am

haha that is so true. my parents always had so much fun with us, too

  14. Julie on February 16, 2016 at 8:42 am

What a great V-Day you guys had! Love P’s big cheesy grin when you told her you were going. 😉 My fave ride is Soarin. Love love love Disney!!!

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:21 am

she cracks me up. i love that ride, too!

  15. Megan Little on February 16, 2016 at 8:43 am

I have never been to Disneyland. I think it would be a blast as an adult though. That macaron looks amazing! How awesome that you can bless your kiddos by creating fun memories on the regular!

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:21 am

the pilot didn’t go for the first time until he was 25, and we had a blast!

  16. Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on February 16, 2016 at 8:47 am

I love Disney World and my favorite thing to do is eat through all the countries in Epcot!

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:20 am

      the best!!!

  17. Cassie on February 16, 2016 at 9:11 am

I am constantly amazed how you zip about with little P. It has helped motivate me a time or two to bust free from the house with my little one!

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:19 am

if tom and i are together, i feel like it’s NBD because we swoop in and help each other. when it’s one of us outnumbered, it’s a little harder hahah. thankfully now that p is feeling much better, it’s a lot easier and more fun to get out and about

  18. Erin @ Erin's Inside Job on February 16, 2016 at 9:54 am

I went to Disneyworld when I was younger and we ended up being asked to be the grand marshals in the parade! It was an awesome time and we got it all on video!

    • Fitnessista on February 16, 2016 at 10:14 am

      ahhh that is so fun!

  19. Erin @ Her Heartland Soul on February 16, 2016 at 10:18 am

What a fun weekend! I’ve never been to Disneyland but love Disneyworld. My husband is visiting Disneyland in a few weeks as part of a work conference. He’s so excited for Star Wars. Haha

  20. Debbie on February 16, 2016 at 11:06 am

Fun Fact: The costumes they were are air conditioned inside. I am sure they still get hot but not as bad as you would think! I love Disney…planning on taking our kids this year for the first time.

    • queenoffitness on February 16, 2016 at 1:22 pm

I’ve always wondered about that…Thanks Debbie!

  21. Jennifer on February 16, 2016 at 12:30 pm

We were just in Laguna Beach for a long weekend and decided against Disneyland for my 2 1/2 year old. I think she would have loved it however between her still having to take naps and still being pretty young I didn’t think the price was worth it at this point in her life. I’m sure we will make a trip there when she gets a little older.
PS. thanks for nightmares I’ll be having about that clown tonight 😉

  22. Amanda on February 16, 2016 at 1:24 pm

I’ve been to Disney World, but not Disneyland- I need to come out to CA!

  23. Karen on February 16, 2016 at 1:37 pm

I’m from Australia but I have been to Disneyland twice and I love it! My favourite ride is Splash Mountain. It definitely is the happiest place on earth!
I like the ice creams, they are huge and delicious. I think the shop is at the end of Main Street where we got them.
I’m glad you and your family had a great time there, lovely photos of you all 🙂

  24. Amanda @ Cheers to the Weekends on February 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm

I have lived in California for 4 years and have YET to go to Disneyland. I have been to Disney World numerous times. I am far away though… all the way up in San Francisco! Looks like fun though! 🙂

  25. Ali on February 16, 2016 at 8:17 pm

Happy Love day to you G! So cool that Livi got to hang out one on one with Minnie – sounds like you all are V.I.P. Love the margarita over babys head – and P’s face in the photo of the two girls!!

I love Disneyland..since I grew up in SD going to Disney was a ritual. I miss it soo much. Although Disney World is awesome..my heart belongs to Disneyland. MY favorite ride hands down is Space Mountain. I love the thrill in the dark LOL. For sure my fave treat is the Dole whips.

I LOVE that pic of Livi and P. Such a sweet one….

Noooo you guys cant leave SD till I move home next February..im hoping to make it out there ending of Jan/early Feb. My daughter will be 2 then. She would love to meet Livi.

  27. Meagan Leanne on February 17, 2016 at 9:28 pm

Dole whips = HEAVEN! I spent my birthday at Disney World last year and I had either 2-3 of them throughout the day. Along with plenty of the chocolate dipped mickey ears ice cream bar… It was my birthday and you know I needed plenty of sweet treats! I can’t wait to get back there. Disney World is one of my favorite places.

  28. Jacqueline on February 21, 2016 at 9:14 am

I went to Disneyland last year and met Olaf… I just about CRIED! He is my favorite character 🙂 I also got to see Belle’s library and try a Dole Whip for the first time (despite living in CA my whole life and going to Disneyland probably ten times haha).
