the vitamix tango +meals/fitness/who knows

Weekend, feel free to stick around a little longer. Not only have we been living up our last few seconds of time here in Tucson, but I’m ok waiting until the unpacking begins (even though let’s be real, it will be nice to get it over with). A funny story: Livi thinks our base hotel is California. We walked out to the parking lot on the first day and she said, “California! I can see it! Oh, I can’t wait!”

It’s a little better than the base parking lot, kiddo 😉

Yesterday, we were at the BX picking up some necessities right before naptime and Livi said, “I want to go back to California for my nap.” Cracks me up every time.

Base parking lot 1 of 1

(California! Except not at all.)

For workouts and meals this week, it’s all up in the air. I’m excited to eventually get my kitchen tools back and start cooking again, but for now, we’ll probably be going out to eat and exploring. Our household goods shipment keeps getting pushed back…and pushed back… so who knows when we’ll really be putting the house together.

The day that Vitamix comes out, I’ll be dancing with it around the kitchen 🙂 I REALLY miss homemade smoothies, especially now that the weather’s been warmer!

Whole Foods made a rather lovely one yesterday:

Smoothie 1 of 1 4

When I’m not going to be cooking so much, there are some staple meals that I tend to fall back on. These are great traveling meals, especially when we’re gone for longer than “vacation mode.” This is when the novelty of restaurant meals has outworn its welcome, and I’m craving anything with resemblance to homemade food.

Easy hotel meals:

Breakfasts:

Eggs and fruit (and if I have access to one: a brown tortilla to make a burrito)

Oats with protein powder, nut butter and/or berries

Out to eat: scrambled eggs, fruit and breakfast potatoes

Lunches:

Salad with protein and veggies, sweet potato

Burrito bowl with protein, greens, guacamole and salsa

Banana and almond butter roll-ups with yogurt

Goat cheese quesadilla with salsa

Dinners:

Protein, veggie, sweet potato

Turkey burgers + sweet potato fries

Any fresh ingredients to make a salad

Snacks:

Fresh juices, trail mix, bars or fruit

Snacks 1 of 1 4

Pretty simple. While I like the convenience of planning and prepping, we’ll still have access to lots of fresh and healthy options. The good news is that even when things are weird (especially during this moving transition-limbo phase), I feel more inspired to eat healthy meals when I have my little monkey-see-monkey-do with me. She always wants what I’m eating, so I’ll grab a healthy option first, knowing that she’ll end up eating most of it 😉

For fitness this week, I have no clue how it’s going to go.

Here’s what it’s tentatively looking like in my brain, but I’ll be going with the flow based on where we’re staying, what day(s) we spend unpacking, etc.:

Sunday: Total body circuit and HIIT (done!)

Monday: OFF

Tuesday: Ballet Beautiful workout or yoga podcast

Wednesday: Beach run (omggggg) + at-home weights

Thursday: OFF

Friday: New fitness class?!

Saturday: yoga

I’m already so excited to check out all of the yoga options in our new neighborhood 🙂

Something I WILL be doing: plank challenge!! How is it going for all of you?

Are you planning for the week? What are some of your staples when you’re away from home for a longer amount of time? Favorite healthy restaurant meal?

Hope you have a very happy Sunday!

See ya later today with some weekend pics <3

xoxo

Gina

I miss the runs on CA beaches. I worked there for two years and had the best of both worlds. Working in CA during the week and in AZ for the weekends. It was glorious!

I’ve been missing my Vitamix like crazy! That, my food processor, oven and juicer. Can’t wait to be back in our house!

  6. Katie @ Live Half Full on April 6, 2014 at 1:55 pm

I always make sure to focus on greens and protein when life is crazy- those two things help to keep me in check when I can’t control much else.

Here’s my meal plan for the week!

Awww that is adorable 🙂 I am sure California will look a little better than the base parking lot 🙂 Kids are funny!

  10. Traci on April 6, 2014 at 3:35 pm

Good luck adjusting! I always like to grab fruit for breakfast, or a snack. Other than that, I just try to practice balance when away from home and relying on restaurant meals.

  11. Livi on April 6, 2014 at 3:41 pm

Nut butters and granola bars definitely help when I’m away from home!

    Hi there!

I always travel with apples and nuts, so in case hunger strikes I don’t end up in a convenience store. However, I live in San Francisco and have found you can get plenty of healthy options on-the-go here.

My go-to restaurant order at lunch is a salad and at dinner is a fish and veggies … that way I can save room for dessert.

My husband’s parents just moved to San Diego a couple weeks ago and they are loving life. I’ve never been before but am excited to go visit them down there.

    Good luck with the move.

    Best,
    Ashley

A smoothie sounds REALLY good right now. And I’m so not into making them at home. Love those little Illy drinks! They are so convenient and Illy is the best!

      my fave, too 🙂

  15. Kristen @ Vitamin K Girl on April 6, 2014 at 5:42 pm

I really want to try Ballet Beautiful! I don’t have Amazon Prime though:/ My husband and I are in talks to move to CA within the next 2 years from St. Louis (we’re kind of just done with the winters here). I hope you like your new home!

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2014 at 7:19 pm

      thank you!!! <3

  16. Emily B on April 6, 2014 at 5:43 pm

I’ve actually been keeping up with the plank challenge! Even if I don’t get any other serious workout done, I make sure to do that very manageable plank!! It’s so quick, it’s hard to find an excuse NOT to get one in

And oh Livi! You’re in for a wonderfully amazing eye widening experience! So glad she is adjusting well.

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2014 at 7:18 pm

      so awesome!!!
haha and yes! i think she’ll like the real california much more

  17. Kim @ FITsique on April 6, 2014 at 5:47 pm

I just wrote an article about what kinds of foods to bring with you when not at home! I typically rely on oatmeal, protein powder, homemade protein bars, mixed nuts, tuna packets, and anything else that travels pretty easily!

  18. Emily on April 6, 2014 at 5:58 pm

I am so jealous of your new moving adventure! I just love moving to new and cool places, like SD! 🙂 Running on the beach, double ahhhh!

I so admire your mindset and planning to eat healthy. I’ve been in a total food blah these days. “Healthy” food seems not worth the effort to procure or make. I’m hoping I’ll find a little inspiration soon to get back into salad beast mode, maybe all the new spring produce coming in will perk my interest!

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2014 at 7:18 pm

i’ve actually felt blah from all of the restaurant food lately! the good news is that with liv, she’s automatic encouragement to eat healthy since she wants whatever i have 🙂 i definitely think the new spring produce with be good inspiration

    Beach run!! That’s fabulous!
My workouts for the week will include a couple spinning classes (finished one this morning), a body pump class and then my own strength training mixed in there too.

  20. Mari on April 6, 2014 at 7:20 pm

Your daughter’s comments about California were hilarious!! I was laughing so hard when I read that!!

  21. Shaina Anderson on April 7, 2014 at 12:17 am

Welcome friend!! So excited to have you here. 🙂 Liv, it’s WAY better than the parking lot haha.

  22. Pua on April 7, 2014 at 1:47 am

I’ve been all about the smoothies, too. Imagine all the possibilities when you get to Cali! I can’t wait to see what you’re gonna be sipping on and making. 🙂 Nothing major planned over here… I just wanna make it through the week because I’m looking forward to next weekend!

  23. Lucie@FitSwissChick on April 7, 2014 at 4:54 am

So many great ideas to stay healthy during on the go!
I LOVE beach runs – they are brutal, but fun and beautiful!
I love to have grilled meat or fish at restaurants – or giant salads.

  24. Joy on April 7, 2014 at 6:56 am

I’ve been all about the smoothies lately (though I’m drinking them wrapped in blankets because apparently massachusetts has decided highs in the low 50s is warm enough) so I’ll be here jealous of your running (1 month down 5 to go) esp on the beach and your warm weather! I will live vicariously through you and Liv

  25. Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork on April 7, 2014 at 8:33 am

I’m keeping up with the plank challenge! Print-out lives on the front of my fridge!
Salads with protein are always a go-to for me, as are protein bars, portable fruit (apples, bananas), eggs, yogurt, and oatmeal.

  26. Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment on April 7, 2014 at 9:09 am

Some easy go-to options for me include salads, Kind bars, nuts, greek yogurt, eggs, fruit and veggies.

  27. Jeana on April 7, 2014 at 11:31 am

Enjoy your new home! Hoping your Vitamix gets to you soon!

  28. FitBritt@MyOwnBalance on April 7, 2014 at 12:16 pm

Oh my gosh! The fact that Olivia thought the base was California is priceless! So adorable!

  29. Angie on April 7, 2014 at 12:21 pm

Ahh Livi is sooo cute. she wants to nap in California….ME TOOO!

You HAVE to walk run on the seawalk from Belmont Park to the pier and back. That is one of my favorite places to run when i am home. I cant wait to walk/run there next month. The view and smell of the beach is amazzzzzzinnnnng!

Also, everyone of my friends and family say hiking at Cowles mountain is the best!

Well you can always hit up Whole Foods in La Jolla or Hillcrest for smoothies OR my favorite JAMBA JUICE!
