Two Candles

Hey hey hey 😀 How was your day? Ours was super productive and bueno <3

After a glorious bfast prepared by the Pilot

eggs

(Eggs and toast FTW- covered in salsa)

we started unpacking frenzy 2011. We got through a ton of boxes, and then took a trip to World Market as a break.

Cushions for 75% off? Don’t mind if I do….

We grabbed some cushions for the outdoor set

patio

+ the balcony lounge chair. I’ve already dubbed it the blog chair 😉 [Also picked up our other 2 dining room chairs that were on hold, since the first location we went to last week only had 4, some teak oil, flower arrangements and candles. World Market has the best candles]

My Dadoo, Stepmom, little bros and Nana came over to check out our progress so far, and brought over a beautiful balcony table and chairs, plus this book:

book

I can’t wait to dive in 🙂

Lunch was way too much Chipoddle.

chipoddle

Vegetarian salad with black beans, hot salsa, pico, and double guac. It gave me heartburn and I’m miserably full, but it was so delicious.

The Pilot is munching eegee’s for dinner and I’ll probably roll with a smoothie later, since I’m still stuffed.

This week’s meal ideas are going to be inspired by some recipes in here:clean eating

Tonight will be a late-y since I have a [fun] project to finish up for tomorrow, but I hope everyone had a lovely Sunday!

See ya bright and early! <3

xoxo

Something to talk about: Totally random but has anyone tried these things?

ear candles

They’ve always given me the heeby jeebies but from the description it’s supposed to be an enjoyable experience. Supposedly you can hear the sound of the ocean while the opposite end of the candle is lit [the other end is.. in your ear]

My madre asked me to pick some up for my stepdad, who has been having some trouble with his hearing. It was hilarious because the way my mom explained it to me was: “remember in Keeping Up With the Kardashians when Khloe put that candle in Bruce’s ear to help with his hearing? Would you mind picking some up?”

Sorry I’m late to the party, but I HAD to comment. As an audiology clinical assistant (aka: I test hearing all day) at an ENT clinic, I have to say DON’T USE EAR CANDLES!!! One, they won’t help your hearing. Two, all of the “wax” that comes out, is wax from the candle, not from your ear, so it won’t actually clean your ear. Three, you can get burned by those, or if inserted too far can damage the eardrum (although that’s unlikely). Four, ear candles will NOT draw toxins out of the ears. Earwax is actually good for the ears (as long as it’s not impacted in the ear canal) and is supposed to be there, it does several things, including cleaning and moisturizing the ear canal. You also should not use Q-tips in the ear for reason #3 that I stated (not burning, but poke a hole in the eardrum). I’ve had a patient that completely lost her hearing in one ear from a Q-tip- it’s scary stuff. If you’re stepdad is having trouble with his hearing he should either go to his primary care doctor, or a better option would be to go to an Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) doctor who can assess the problem and get an appropriate hearing test, or can clean impacted wax out of the ears. I know some people have commented about not doing it, but I just had to put my own two cents in from experience. I hope this helps!

      amen!

I would recommend your stepdad go to an ENT to get his ears cleaned out. I have chronic ear issues and have tried all the home remedies, which usually just end up making things worse. I also went to 2 primary care doctors and one did an ear lavage (sp?) where they shoot water into the ear to clean it out. That also made things much worse and i was SO dizzy during that I don’t know how I didn’t pass out. Eventually I went to an ENT and they have equipment to clean out your ears properly and actually know what they are doing (which in my opinion, primary care docs do not because that is not their specialty).

I was skeptical also. I tried them years ago and my doubts were confirmed. You couldn’t hear any ocean, it did not clean anything out. We actually got black soot in our ears from the candle burning. Also, though I’ve never had it happen my friend was burned by it when wax from the inside of the candle dripped down into her ear. Overall, they were an epic fail.

Hahah, I’ve had friends do this, and they’ve said they had great results. I’m still a bit too skeptical!

I’ve tried them, they aren’t so weird when you do it but I didn’t feel like it did anything. It did pull out wax for me and my husband but we didn’t think it made that big of a difference. Make sure a paper plate goes over the candle to catch the ashes and stop when it starts to feel warm.

yeah, unfortunately those are a scam- i saw someone do it and was like “WOW COOL I WANT SOME!” but then we burned the candle by itself (not while in an ear) and you get the same “wax” out.

I’ve heard good things about these candles and I’ve heard bad things about them too. I’m too scared to try them!

I’ve never bought Clean Eating before. Do you recommend it? 🙂

I have tried the ear candle waxing thing before but I don’t know if it really works and I have read how bad it can be too. Of course there is always a good and bad to everything but I think it made me a little skeptical. The one thing I am into right now is the neti pot. That thing is amazing!

I saw that episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. It was pretty funny but Bruce’s ear wax wigged me out a little. I’ve never tried ear candling but I do remember when it was all the rage. I agree with Meg above about the Neti Pot. I have a similar item, squeeze a saline solution up one nostril and it comes out the other. I was really skeptical at first (and scared–it took me more than a year to try it) but it worked great!

    Did the ear candling work?

no, he still had to go to the doctor, but he had an ear infection apparently

I know I’m way late to this party, but I wanted you to know that I LOVE ear candles. I grew up with constant ear infections and pain. I still have problems if I don’t get them REALLY dry with q-tips after showering. Ear Candles have been a life-saver for me. I only use them like once a year, and they work wonders.
