Valdizzy Noshes

Hiiiiii 😀 How are you?? Thanks so much for your amazing discussion and comments on my “What shaped your eating style?” post. As always, I loved reading your responses. There are still quite a few that I’ll be writing back to over the next day or so- thanks for being patient with me while I’ve been Pilot snuggling and hopping on random internet for the past few days 🙂

So we’re still in Valdosta.

tom tea

We were *supposed* to get on a flight ballz early this morning, but the Pilot still has some work to finish up here before he leaves on Tucson vacay with me, so we got a later flight. It’s funny how nice it’s felt to be back in Valdizzy… for 48 hours 😉

I’ve been able to enjoy being here with my buddy –a welcomed change since I was usually here alone when we lived here- see my V-town friends, and enjoy the Valdosta restaurant treasures.

Most notably:

LOTS of smoothies and juices from the Main Squeeze

smoothie4

(Vega Smoothie Infusion, blueberries, banana and spinach)

and lunch at Bleu Pub with a very good friend.

with lisa

That’s Tinkerbell! (<— the blog nickname I gave her)

I’ve mentioned her about a thousand times before and used to train this lovely lady when I lived here. The Pilot and I got to enjoy a lunch date with Tinkerbell yesterday, and it was perfection 🙂

Sweet potato fries:

(Crunchy, salty foodgasms)

Salad:

house-made vegan black bean burger:

and the Pilot decided to order a fried Oreo.

It was like a donut swallowed an Oreo.

(Sorry for the blur!)

Of course, I had to try a bite and it was surprisingly pretty good! If I’m going to have dessert, I usually want something gooey and chocolaty instead of fried, though 😉 OR a pizookie 😀

Well we’re off to enjoy our last afternoon here and am hoping to visit Jeni and her baby one more time. He is the sweetest, tiniest, cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

Have a lovely day and I’ll see you this afternoon!

xoxo

So happy to hear you are enjoying some time with the Pilot in Valdosta! I am amazed by all the stuff that they fry down here in the south… I haven’t tried any (yet!) but I’m thinking one bite couldn’t hurt 🙂

  4. Marla on March 22, 2011 at 12:13 pm

Hi Gina! I absolutely love your aviator sunglasses in this post! They look slightly bigger than the typical aviator. Do you know what brand/style # they are? If you get a chance, just let me know! If not, no biggie – enjoy the time with your hubby!!!

    • Fitnessista on March 22, 2011 at 1:37 pm

Those would be the target 19.99 variety- I lost my other pair and bought these last week. Love them so far!

  5. Emma (Sweet Tooth Runner) on March 22, 2011 at 12:13 pm

WOAH a fried Oreo?! I’ve heard of fried Mars bars, but never Oreos!! Not quite sure what to make of that!! 😛

And your sunglasses are SO COOL I seriously WANT them!! 😀

    • Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life on March 22, 2011 at 3:26 pm

Oh my gosh, last summer I was at a county fair nearby and they were deep frying EVERYTHING…Oreos, Twinkies, Reese’s PB Cups, Snickers, Brownies…
It was kind of outrageous! :-O

  6. Katie on March 22, 2011 at 12:14 pm

ok I saw your tweet about the fried oreo, it looks good! I really am not a fried girl though, the fried oreo reminds me of when I go to fairs, they have stand with all kinds of fried stuff like that!

Well tinkerbell is a beautiful friend, so great you got to meet up with her, you got to meet up with very great friends on your trip! I bet Jenny’s baby is adorable!!!!! Hope she is doing well too! I know how the no sleep is when having a baby, it can be rough, but all worth it!

Have a safe flight back you guys! xoxo <3

glad you guys are having a good time together, i can feel your good vibes and the happiness through your blog since the pilot is back. i’m lovin it!

you should make chocolate chip oreos, not deepfried, basically an oreo with chocolate chip cookie down wrapped around it and baked. Amazing! and then send me some k 😛

      That sounds out of control

  9. Ashley @ Feeding Ashley on March 22, 2011 at 12:19 pm

I love fried oreos, but if you eat too many they sit a bit too heavy in the belly.

    • Fitnessista on March 22, 2011 at 1:35 pm

I hear ya- a bite was good enough for me

  10. Lisa on March 22, 2011 at 12:33 pm

I had a bite of a fried twinkie once. I’d never eat a twinkie on it’s own (well, if someone paid me I would!)…but that thing was ah-mazing! I imagine the fried oreo may fall into the same category for me!

Glad you’re having fun and getting in your pilot snuggles!

  11. lindsey on March 22, 2011 at 12:33 pm

for such a small town, Valdosta has a ton of cool places! I wish we had a juice bar here 🙁

  16. Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries on March 22, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Can’t wait for Luon For A Cause!! I have a ton of their recent items (as in, within the past year) but I always see people with tops in designs that aren’t available any more. Hoping for some good finds!

I’m so glad you’re having an amazing time with the hubby!!! 🙂

  21. Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table on March 22, 2011 at 1:40 pm

Fried Oreos! They sell them at the Braves stadium. I ate one and had to promise myself I’d never have another – it was like crack. That and fried twinkies. Talk about food with no redeeming qualities… 🙂

  22. Emma on March 22, 2011 at 1:44 pm

I’d love to be able to know how to make sweet potato fries like that! They look delicious, for some reason I’ve never been able to make a good batch!

  23. LisaG on March 22, 2011 at 1:46 pm

I told you my friend makes fried honey buns. Aren’t they already fried, so I guess they are refried!?

  24. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on March 22, 2011 at 2:01 pm

So glad you had time with Tinkerbell, hopefully Jeni and her son one more time, and just seeing and being with all the old people and places in your life. Fun! But now you get to go back to AZ and have fun there too 🙂

The fried oreo…wow! I have seen cookies that have a whole oreo stuffed and baked inside of them, but never an actual oreo that’s been fried. I think I need to try that one day in my lifetime. A bucket list food 🙂

    Safe travels, Gina!

  25. Whitney on March 22, 2011 at 2:04 pm

I agree. Gooey and chocolatey over fried! I’ve overdone it on dessert lately…I’ll be taking a brier hiatus 🙂

  26. Erika on March 22, 2011 at 2:16 pm

Hi I’m responding to a couple posts ago about what changed your eating habits.

First I started training for my first half marathon & see my body change from working so hard I didn’t want to fill it with junk. I read Jillian Michael s book how to fuel your metabolism + her cookbook which I LOVED…then I think what REALLY changed for me was reading Robb Wolf’s Paleo Soloution. I now strive to eat clean but definitely am NOT always perfect…I have my indulgences. I’m training for my 2nd half marathon on May 1st in Orange County, Cali. And have high hopes to beat my first time, I have a BUSY schedule with working full time + a commute to & from, I’m a single Mom to a 3 year old little boy. But you should know, I, like so many of your readers get so many food ideas from your blog & love it. So thank you 🙂 Sometimes I get in a rut & make the same things over & over & over & so your blog helps with that…and I’ve got my Mom & sister avidly reading & trying recipes too. Not to mention I love your personal take on things & think you’re a cute as ever gal. LONG comment sorry lol
    🙂

  27. Meghan on March 22, 2011 at 2:16 pm

I wonder if there’s a way to health-ify the much-loved fried oreo? It might be one of those things that’s just enjoyed as is, like cheese. Try to take the fat out of cheese and you’re left with emptiness of both the stomach and emotional varieties. Gina I love your blog so much, was wondering if you’d be open to doing a link exchange?

  28. suki on March 22, 2011 at 2:16 pm

Ooooh, a fried Oreo? I’m not sure if I could handle that, though I’ve tried fried Twinkies once. 🙂 You look noticeably happier since Pilot’s been back. Not to say you didn’t look happy before, but yeah!

  29. Stefanie @thenewhealthy on March 22, 2011 at 2:29 pm

I tried a fried oreo during the fair over the summer and I agree–it’s totally like an oreo wrapped in a sugar donut! It was good but one bite was more than enough to satisfy! 🙂

  30. NOLAGirl718 on March 22, 2011 at 2:31 pm

I had a fried oreo – once. It was amazing. I hope I am never faced with such a decision again.

I just found your blog and have been devouring old posts. Somewhere you give a shpiel on how to develop your own fitness routine – could you direct me to that or re-post? I’d love to reference it…

    • Fitnessista on March 22, 2011 at 3:19 pm

Welcome to the little blog 🙂
It’s called readers request how to create a workout plan- I’d google for ya but am on my phone
      Hope this helps a little!

  31. ashley on March 22, 2011 at 2:40 pm

I actually seeked out a fried orea at the Del Mar Fair last year just to try a bite and I was disappointed. I agree, something chocolately, melty or creamy (mm…frozen yogurt) is typically much more delicious.

Oh Exception: Fried Banana w/Ice Cream @ Teppanyaki restaurants is DELISH.

  32. marli on March 22, 2011 at 2:41 pm

I just watched your “Pilot Comes Home” video and I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes. I’m so very glad he’s home safely. I’m so appreciative of him and all of the men and women in the military and totally impressed, humbled, and grateful for the tremendous sacrifices they (and their families!) make for this country.

  45. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on March 22, 2011 at 7:00 pm

I’m amazed at the things people think to fry. At a fair last year, I saw deep fried butter! What the!?!

  46. stephanie on March 22, 2011 at 9:41 pm

It was so nice to finally see Tinkerbell! You two are lovely and your hair looks gorgeous!!! Is it easier to keep it smooth with the keratin treatments? My hair is cut fairly similarly and is just as long…now that the spring humidity is setting in I always look frizzy. Do the treatments help that?

    • Fitnessista on March 23, 2011 at 1:12 pm

      thanks girl!
actually, it helped but not as i thought it would with the humidity. it was still quite frizzy!

  47. Ashley on March 22, 2011 at 9:58 pm

Is it weird that I’m so excited for you + the Pilot to be reunited? It gives me warm fuzzies inside…hehehe

      aww thanks friend 🙂

  48. Doc (The Healthy PhD) on March 22, 2011 at 10:12 pm

At least you had all that food to keep you happy while you waited. Looks amazing…except for the fried oreo. My fiance loves stuff like that. I’m not really into the ‘fried’ thing…

  49. Sara @ Baking and Wine on March 23, 2011 at 1:22 pm

Oh man. There was this sushi place in Anchorage that gave tempura fried oreos for dessert. They were insane. It made the oreo a little bit softer and gooier, but the tempura batter was so light and crunchy. Mmm.

  50. Brittany on March 23, 2011 at 3:51 pm

Your Pilot reunion posts make me SO happy! I imagine you’re the happiest girl in the world!! 🙂 The side-by-side pics above are way too cute.

I recently got the same Lulu hoodie you’re sportin’ here; the hood is so fun! In your experience, does it stretch out because of the cotton? I sized up 2 sizes to have it be roomy, but now I’m worried it will expand into a potato sack since it’s big to begin with! Your expert Lulu advice is always appreciated 😉

    • Fitnessista on March 23, 2011 at 5:43 pm

all clothes are pre-shrunk and also won’t bag out or stretch- how they fit now is how they’ll always fit 🙂
