“Watch out, she’s a hugger”

Hi friends! Thanks for the awesome feedback on the Schweaty September workout! Hope you love it 🙂 Also, would you guys like it if I started publishing my playlists on iTunes? Let me know what you think.

So, how was your Pumpkin Spice Latte day? I may have to treat myself to a short soy one before Zumba 😉 <— I will throw a party the day Starbucks starts serving almond milk

I may have to get an iced latte since it’s still shorts and tank weather over here…

[It was *only* 100* today] 😀

It was also a roon kinda day.

roons

I had a lot of roons to make, so I cranked them out this morning and now our house is filled with a lovely sweet coconut aroma.

Blonde:

and chocolate:

chocolate

Some eats:

fruit cup

Fruit cup with organic kiwi + plum and mango from the farmer’s market. That mango rocked my world- I’m so glad I saved half of it for tomorrow 😉

A very tall [leftover] beast:

salad

Everything from last night, minus the Pilot’s insane grilled salmon.

I kind of have a *thing* for anchovies right now… I added two minced ones to the salad beast:

salad (2)

So salty, so good.

Just don’t look at them.. they’re a little creepy… but from my experience anchovies > sardines 😉

In between the hustle and bustle of the day, my madre treated me to a pedicure.

tools

[The nail tech lets you take home the files and buffers she uses]

I don’t know what tipped my mom off to the fact that I needed a pedicure. I usually do my toes every week, but since it hurts to reach them, I haven’t this week and they were looking a little rough.

Also, I rarely get pedicures because:

1. I have no prob painting my nails at home (or will just go get a polish change instead of a full pedicure)

2. If I’m getting a spa service, I roll with facial or massage every.time.

3. A nail tech in Valdosta stabbed me with the scraper-thing. I bled. It was not fun.

This pedicure was HEAVENLY. She used a raspberry scrub on my legs and feet and my nana said she could tell I was trying not to fall asleep or drool. Hawt. {Nana got her nails done right before me, so we got to hang out}

It was cute too because when I left, the nail tech hugged me. It kind of surprised me because I myself am a huge hugger. If you’ve ever met me (like at HLS or another event) chances are that I’ve hugged you. It’s a big part of my culture and family- we hug. Everyone.

Well, I’ve tried to restrain my huggy ways because I’ve realized that some people don’t like to be hugged. I met a man at a family gathering and went to hug him and he said “I’m not a hugger. I shake hands.” Sorry, man.

Are you a hugger? Or notsomuch?

I’m about to go hug a pumpkin spice latte and head to Zumba.

xoxo

Gina

I was going to wait for your morning post to ask, but I will probably forget so – do you take daily vitamins on top of those fabulous smoothies? And is protein powder necessary for someone like me who does not work out daily? The more I see them on your blog, the more I NEED to have some healthy, delicious, funny colored smoothies in my life.

Love this!! I’m a hugger and totally just bought this “I’m a hugger” t-shirt the other day so people know what to expect 🙂

I grew up in a very affectionate family so I’m definitely a hugger.

I’m also a PSL lover. I went to my local Starbucks this past weekend and they let me have the pumpkin spice early!! I got an iced coffee with soy milk and 2 pumps of the pumpkin juice (instead of the normal 5). Soooo good!!

  4. Sam on September 6, 2011 at 11:04 pm

You should definitely post your playlists. I am actually checking out the songs you listed in the september workout right now to get some more running music!
Also jealous of the pedicure. I haven’t had one in two years!! yikes. As for being a hugger, I am definitely NOT one! I am cool with hugging people who hug me…I just feel awkward initiating the hugs. Funny stuff. My boyfriend is french and his family hugs and kisses both cheeks! I almost died the first time.

  5. Tamara on September 6, 2011 at 11:16 pm

I blogged about pumpkin spice lattes today, too! <3 Great minds think alike.

  6. Katiesgettinfit on September 6, 2011 at 11:20 pm

    Total hugger!!

  7. Danielle (Shrinking and Studying) on September 6, 2011 at 11:33 pm

I would LOVE to see your playlists. I listen to the schweaty elliptical playlist *all* the time and I’m always on the prowl for new music. 🙂

I am SO excited for PSL’s again. I haven’t had one yet, but it’s only a matter of time. I might try making my own since my budget is a little bit tight this semester.

I grew up in a really non-huggy family and as a result I’m not a hugger at all. Hugging used to make me REALLY uncomfortable and I still kind of shy away from it if I don’t stop myself. It’s growing on me though and I’ve gotten better at hugging my family & close friends. I blame my boyfriend since he is ALWAYS hugging me. It took a little getting used to at first, but now I love my hugs. 🙂

Posting your playlists on iTunes is a great idea! Also, I am a hugger too:)

  9. Tabi on September 7, 2011 at 12:08 am

HAHA I love it. I am suuuuch a hugger. And it’s only a recent realization that I’m kind of an ‘inappropriate hugger’… I just go in for it without thinking first! It’s my first reaction! Hah. Thankfully I know a lot of fellow hug-lovers but I do have one girlfriend who has told me that she feels strange if I hug her… too funny 😀

  10. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on September 7, 2011 at 12:20 am

I love that you are a hugger, I always wish I was, but I am not! I am way to protective of my personal space. My mom tells me I was like that even as a baby! She said that when I was fussing, she couldn’t even cuddle me, I would just squirm! I am glad your manicure went well and blood free.

  11. jessie ann james on September 7, 2011 at 12:36 am

mmm mm mm mmm I want those roons! they look delicious! its still shorts weather over here too! 100 degrees today in vegas!

  12. amy @ lovetotrain on September 7, 2011 at 12:44 am

ooh playlist please! its always great to get some new music ideas!!

  13. Gillbear on September 7, 2011 at 12:56 am

Wish I was a hugger! I’m a really awkward person especially around new people. A lot of my friends in the UK were huggers though which made me happy 🙂 Science says hugs help! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/4131508.stm

I haven’t been reading for awhile due to insane work hours, and boy have I missed out!!! I came back for a lil’ (or a lot) of your good inspiration and advice because i’m at a major-weight loss plateau. I know i’ll find something here to kickstart me! 😉

I love the look of the blog, so sophisticated! I have a LOT of catching up to do!!!

Anyway, I am a hugger. Anyone who is not is missing out IMHO.!

Great to be back reading!!! 🙂

  15. Ali on September 7, 2011 at 1:05 am

Oh, I’m definitely a hugger, but I gotta keep it under wraps at work! (as a woman in construction, big trouble!)
I would love it if you posted some workout playlists on itunes, I don’t have much time to check out music and am always looking for a change from the same old same old.

  16. Claire @ Un Bello Aperitivo on September 7, 2011 at 7:05 am

I’m definitely a hugger, too! Sometimes you can tell when someone else isn’t a hugger, but sometimes you can’t and then things get AWKWARD…haha.

  17. Shannon on September 7, 2011 at 8:13 am

I’d love a baby-bumpin Gina hug! 🙂 That sounds nice!

    I’m definitely a hugger too!

  18. Jess @PinkChilli on September 7, 2011 at 8:28 am

I want a dehydrator soooo bad!!!

  19. Becky @ Fit Chick on the Fly on September 7, 2011 at 8:32 am

    I’m a HUGGER, but I wasn’t always one!

I’ve grown up in Miami / South Florida my whole life and as a part of the culture down here everyone kisses on the cheek when they meet or greet someone, whether you know them or not. Well when I moved away to college in South Carolina I had no idea that people outside of south Florida didn’t kiss on the cheek when they met. People in the “south” are way more conservative, so that’s when I decided to be a hugger instead 🙂

  20. Meghan @ CarmanClan on September 7, 2011 at 8:48 am

I am a hugger too, unless its my Mom’s boyfriend! I’ve had some bad experiences with nail salons too, I got a pedi right before our wedding and ended up with a infection on my big toe. Talk about uncomfortable walking around Ireland on our Honeymoon!

  21. chely on September 7, 2011 at 9:23 am

I’m definitely a hugger! Yes, it would be great to be able to check out your playlists on itunes 🙂

  22. Aly on September 7, 2011 at 9:26 am

I will throw a nationwide party when Starbucks …. and EVERY coffee shop starts using almond milk. It will seriously be the best day ever – and really kick off the already awesome almond milk revolution 🙂

  23. Chelsa on September 7, 2011 at 10:15 am

It does feel kind of awkward to hug people that I don’t know but I don’t mind it at all. One thing that really makes me feel super awkward is if someone kisses me on the cheek (hello or goodbye) . It’s not that it bothers me really but it’s a strange situation for me.

  24. Stephanie @ Love Life Project on September 7, 2011 at 10:50 am

I’m definitely a hugger! I just hate air-kissing. My cousins have taken up air-kissing over the last few years. Maybe they think it makes them look refined? It doesn’t. It’s just goofy. If I’m going to kiss you, you’re going to get a big smack on the cheek.

  25. Liz @ Southern Charm on September 7, 2011 at 11:15 am

I can’t wait to join you in the Starbucks party the day that they begin serving almond milk. Can’t believe I missed Pumpkin Spice Latte Day!! Must go immediately and get one.

Glad you enjoyed the pedi and the hug! I love hugs 🙂

  26. Katy @ HaveYouHurd on September 7, 2011 at 11:35 am

I would love to see your workout playlists! I’m not a big music buff but I’m ALWAYS looking for new tunes to pump me up and get me active. Also, I’m so excited about my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season. I’m trying to hold out though a little longer…eek!

  27. deva (voracious vorilee) on September 7, 2011 at 11:41 am

i am a hugger, but I am also shy – if I am not sure if the person I am meeting/seeing is a hugger, i’ll refrain.

i have not jumped into pumpkin spice lattes yet – i am trying ot hold off! it is hard, though, as it is 62 degrees and raining where i am (cincinnati).

  28. Alex on September 7, 2011 at 11:44 am

I’m such a hugger, and I hug everybody. I’ve never had someone outwardly reject a hug, but I can tell by the hug I get back if someone isn’t a hugger. When I hug, I don’t run up to the line and stop, my hugs are deep and meaningful. Ha.

When I was 6, I met my best friend’s grandparents at a barbecue for her birthday. They went to shake my hand and I said “I don’t give handshakes, I give hugs” (which is funny, because it’s the opposite of what that man told you). I learned it from my dad. At my father’s memorial service, a man came up to the podium to say his piece about my father and recounted a time that my father was so happy to see him, that he hugged him so hard he broke his rib. Oops! I don’t hug that hard, but sometimes, with my family/husband/closest girlfriends, I come pretty close.

  29. Alex on September 7, 2011 at 11:45 am

Oh! and where do you get your mani/pedi? I’m in search of a place in Tucson that will play nice with my digits.

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2011 at 4:07 pm

i got it done at trehcol from linda, and she was AMAZING

  30. Dani on September 7, 2011 at 11:53 am

I love that you’re a hugger! I’m always happy when people hug me and think we should all do it more often. I think it’s super rude that that guy said that to you!

  31. Rachel on September 7, 2011 at 12:04 pm

Hugs are way awesome and people should give and receive them more. It’s like a short vertical snuggle!

  32. em on September 7, 2011 at 1:17 pm

Since there quite a few people on the bandwagon – has anyone thought of emailing sbux corp to ask if they will test almond milk? If they get enough emails you never know what might happen..
    Worth a try right?

It begins with one : )

I love PSL but living in Fl – its like AZ it needs to be Oct before I start drinking them. The heat is still around…

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2011 at 4:04 pm

that’s a great idea! we should petition 🙂
it’s super hot here too :/

  33. Allie Q @ Fit Geek on September 7, 2011 at 1:49 pm

Interesting that you brought up the hugging thing. If I’m not mistaken, you’re of Hispanic/Latino descent, right? I live in Miami and just about everyone is Latino, and the commonly accepted greeting is kissing people on the cheek. This used to freak me out but now I’m used to it. But I’ve also realized that people from other parts of the country probably aren’t used to this kind of greeting. As for me…I usually do the kiss thing since it’s what everyone here does.

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2011 at 4:04 pm

yep i’m hispanic- we hug and kiss everyone 🙂

  34. Megan on September 7, 2011 at 2:17 pm

I love hugging people, but I’m also a shy person, so I don’t initiate it as much as I would like. I should be more gutsy about it, though, it’s a great way to express your love to people!

You go girl, on the sardines, those are so healthy. I would do it if I could stomach the fish but still in that first trimester right now :).

  35. Marie on September 7, 2011 at 2:32 pm

Oh, I’m SUCH a hugger! My kids are, too, so they will hug people they’re meeting for the first time, and people love it! 😉 That’s so cute that you are a hugger! 😉

  36. wandak on September 7, 2011 at 2:39 pm

    I hug EVERYONE!

Someday will you please, please, please share your ‘roon recipe?! They look so wonderful!!!

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2011 at 4:02 pm

*when* i get a book deal, it will be in there 🙂

      • wandak on September 8, 2011 at 10:18 am

I can’t wait until you get that book deal!!

  37. Angelle on September 7, 2011 at 2:48 pm

Yes yes, I’d love to see your playlist! I am starting to increase mileage and NEED, yes NEED more music!!! Thanks. Also I’m a hugger and double cheek kisser!! lol (: My stepmother is from Belgium (Europe) and she has helped raise me since I was 9 years old.. Her ways kinda stuck with me!

  38. Megan on September 7, 2011 at 2:57 pm

I wish I could have a Pumpkin Spice Latte!! Even the soy ones still have milk products though, so it’s a no no :(. BUT I found a link to one I could make myself (although I haven’t yet): http://kblog.lunchboxbunch.com/2010/10/vegan-pumpkin-spice-latte-not-starbucks.html

    I’m a hugger! It’s a part of me I’ve squashed, so I don’t hug much anymore…but it’s trying to make a comeback 🙂

    • Fitnessista on September 7, 2011 at 4:02 pm

      oohhh thanks for the recipe!

  39. Julie S. on September 7, 2011 at 4:39 pm

We are definitely huggers in my family, too! 🙂

  40. alexe on September 7, 2011 at 6:13 pm

I think it’s so cute that you would hug anyone. 🙂

I’m not a hugger at all (I feel awkward when I do it) but I don’t mind them if someone wants to hug. It’s just not something I would do naturally. In Quebec, we greet by kissing on the cheeks (two kisses) or, if it’s more formal (or between to man), a hand shake is best.

  41. Jenna on September 7, 2011 at 7:37 pm

Mmm. ‘Roons. 🙂 But, yea, I’m not a hugger either, I feel awkard, partially because I feel like it’s usually insincere. Also, I’m a “personal spacer,” lol.

  42. fiannafritz on September 8, 2011 at 11:19 am

I’m not really a hugger. I like it when other people are – if they’re congenial, and I know them decently well. Hugs are more acceptable from acquaintances I don’t know well if they are female rather than male. Mainly, I don’t like to invade people’s personal space – it makes me nervous – do they really want a hug? will they think I’m weird? My husband gets annoyed because if he comes and tries to cuddle, I’ll squirm if I’m not expecting it. Sometimes I wish I was more of a hugger. I’m just awkward around people.

  43. Ananda on September 8, 2011 at 12:20 pm

I”m totally not a hugger but I think it’s because I’m soooo tall. I never know how to do it: bend over at the waist? bend the knees? stick your butt out? Plus I think then I do hug, it’s too hard because most people just air hug or barely touch, which seems really fakey. Just don’t prefer it, I guess.

  44. Janiek on September 9, 2011 at 9:34 am

Haha, check your e-mail because today I went to starbucks and…. well, I think they have a little suprise for you…
