“Watch out, she’s a hugger”

Hi friends! Thanks for the awesome feedback on the Schweaty September workout! Hope you love it 🙂 Also, would you guys like it if I started publishing my playlists on iTunes? Let me know what you think.

So, how was your Pumpkin Spice Latte day? I may have to treat myself to a short soy one before Zumba 😉 <— I will throw a party the day Starbucks starts serving almond milk

I may have to get an iced latte since it’s still shorts and tank weather over here…

[It was *only* 100* today] 😀

It was also a roon kinda day.

roons

I had a lot of roons to make, so I cranked them out this morning and now our house is filled with a lovely sweet coconut aroma.

Blonde:

and chocolate:

chocolate

Some eats:

fruit cup

Fruit cup with organic kiwi + plum and mango from the farmer’s market. That mango rocked my world- I’m so glad I saved half of it for tomorrow 😉

A very tall [leftover] beast:

salad

Everything from last night, minus the Pilot’s insane grilled salmon.

I kind of have a *thing* for anchovies right now… I added two minced ones to the salad beast:

salad (2)

So salty, so good.

Just don’t look at them.. they’re a little creepy… but from my experience anchovies > sardines 😉

In between the hustle and bustle of the day, my madre treated me to a pedicure.

tools

[The nail tech lets you take home the files and buffers she uses]

I don’t know what tipped my mom off to the fact that I needed a pedicure. I usually do my toes every week, but since it hurts to reach them, I haven’t this week and they were looking a little rough.

Also, I rarely get pedicures because:

1. I have no prob painting my nails at home (or will just go get a polish change instead of a full pedicure)

2. If I’m getting a spa service, I roll with facial or massage every.time.

3. A nail tech in Valdosta stabbed me with the scraper-thing. I bled. It was not fun.

This pedicure was HEAVENLY. She used a raspberry scrub on my legs and feet and my nana said she could tell I was trying not to fall asleep or drool. Hawt. {Nana got her nails done right before me, so we got to hang out}

It was cute too because when I left, the nail tech hugged me. It kind of surprised me because I myself am a huge hugger. If you’ve ever met me (like at HLS or another event) chances are that I’ve hugged you. It’s a big part of my culture and family- we hug. Everyone.

Well, I’ve tried to restrain my huggy ways because I’ve realized that some people don’t like to be hugged. I met a man at a family gathering and went to hug him and he said “I’m not a hugger. I shake hands.” Sorry, man.

Are you a hugger? Or notsomuch?

I’m about to go hug a pumpkin spice latte and head to Zumba.

xoxo

Gina

I’m a hugger!! I’m a hair stylist and hug all my clients 🙂 I often think that sometimes they think i’m weird….. but i don’t care 🙂 lol I hear you! YAY for pumpkin spice! I’ve been trying to hug one for 3 days because i hear everyone else has had one… not me 🙁 sad face! Enjoy yours!

  3. Leslie Wingate on September 6, 2011 at 9:27 pm

Nope…not a hugger. I’ve been working on it. I hug my husband and children, of course. Just now started hugging mom and dad. It’s just not our thing. We also have a HUGE family so it would take forever to hug them all so we just shout, “BYE! LOVE Y’ALL!” 😉

  4. Lindsay @ The Gluten-Free Baker on September 6, 2011 at 9:28 pm

I’m definitely a hugger!! I had a pumpkin spice latte today and it was glorious 🙂

  5. Mel on September 6, 2011 at 9:30 pm

Sounds like you had a great time with your nana 🙂 I think this world needs more (((huggers))). I am definitely a hugger!

  6. Suzanne on September 6, 2011 at 9:32 pm

I had my Pumpkin Spice Latte this morning! 🙂 Yay!

And I’m a hugger too! I never used to be, but now I am.

Hope you enjoy your Pumpkin Spice Latte!

  7. RachelG on September 6, 2011 at 9:33 pm

My first instinct is always to shake hands on the way in and hug on the way out. The awkward/uncomfortable faces are just a bonus. 😉

  8. ashley on September 6, 2011 at 9:34 pm

    “Brother’s don’t shake hands….brothers gotta hug!!!” Favorite.Tommy.Boy.Line.Ever!!!

  9. Holly @ The Runny Egg on September 6, 2011 at 9:34 pm

I’m a hugger with family but that is it — I never say “I’m not a hugger” but you could probably tell if you gave me a hug — it is the equivalent of someone giving you a limp handshake.

  10. avery on September 6, 2011 at 9:35 pm

I’m a hugger for sure! It always makes me feel special when someone goes in for the hug!

  11. AJ on September 6, 2011 at 9:36 pm

I’m totally a hugger. The funny this is, I actually turned my family into huggers, because none of them really did it. Ever. So now, they all grudgingly hug me, because they know it makes me happy.

I’m really excited to try the Schweaty September workout tomorrow! And please do post more of your playlists! I always like new music and seeing what other people workout to! Also, I went to my first Zumba class tonight. It.was.amazing! I’m hooked! 🙂

  12. Lisa @ Fresh Spinach on September 6, 2011 at 9:36 pm

I grew up in a very non-huggy family, so when I started dating my soon to be hubby, I was in for a shock because his family is very huggy and cheek kissy. It grew on me and now I’m very much a hugger!

  13. Kristina @ spabettie on September 6, 2011 at 9:36 pm

pedicures are one of my favorites, but I only go to a handful of people I know!! they know my quirks (no hand massage – just get it done, no credo blades – illegal in some states, no clipping) and I KNOW there are horror stories!

I am totally a hugger, and my main nail tech hugs me all the time!! 😀 I hug just about everybody if I know they don’t mind…

  14. Krissy on September 6, 2011 at 9:38 pm

I would LOVE it if you would post your itunes playlists, that is one of the hardest parts of my workouts!

ps. I’m with ya on the hugging thing 😉

  15. cathy on September 6, 2011 at 9:40 pm

i am a hugger but not a kisser. you know the european or french double kiss on the cheek? i can’t do that! never sure if i should actually kiss the person’s cheek or air kiss…so i’d rather just avoid it. but i love hugs!

  16. allison @ thesundayflog on September 6, 2011 at 9:43 pm

HAHA. i am definitely a hugger! i always say, “hugs all around!” when im meeting a group of people. i dont know why, but that man’s comment reminded me of the time i went to pass my niece to a family friend who has 3 daughters of her own and she holds up her hands and goes “sorry, im not a baby person.” WHAT!?

  17. Dani @ RunFitMama on September 6, 2011 at 9:44 pm

    Yup, I’m a hugger, too.

  18. Dani on September 6, 2011 at 9:44 pm

That would be awesome if you’d post your playlists on itunes! Do you think you could even throw a spin playlist in?

  19. jennyv on September 6, 2011 at 9:45 pm

HUGS all the way… my dad’s side of the family is hugger/kisser family… my mom’s side of the family is a pat on the back type of family. I think my maternal grandpa is still overwhelmed when I give him a big ole bear hug 🙂

  20. bobbileigh on September 6, 2011 at 9:46 pm

That salad and roons look amazing, drooling on my screen. I am so not a hugger unless I feel I know you well enough and even then its a bit iffy. My company is FULL of huggers (when I interviewed I went to shake one of their hands and she said we dont shake here we hug and went in for the full hug) so I have gotten better but its still hard for me if I dont feel I am on that level with you.

  21. Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf on September 6, 2011 at 9:47 pm

I’m a HUGE hugger! Though, I’m a conscious hugger. I don’t initiate hugs with people I don’t know really well, and I don’t initiate hugs with people unless I’m absolutely certain they’re into hugs as well. I do this because I don’t do fake hugs. If I fake-hug someone, it’s because I don’t want them touching me, but they initiated the hug. If I’m going in to hug someone, I’m going ALL in! Boobies and all! WATCH OUT! 😉

I’m pretty sure I’d be a cheek-kisser too if my husband felt okay with it. Hah!

  22. Sana on September 6, 2011 at 9:47 pm

It depends on the mood, sometimes I go overboard with the hugs!

  23. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on September 6, 2011 at 9:48 pm

I really want a pumpkin spice latte, but it’s so hot here too. I think I’m just going to go for in and drink it in the heavy A/C!

  24. Katie @ Plates and Paste on September 6, 2011 at 9:52 pm

Yes, please publish playlists! That would be super awesome. I like hugging, but never know if other people do…I try to feel them out before I go for it.

  25. Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) on September 6, 2011 at 9:52 pm

“I met a man at a family gathering and went to hug him and he said “I’m not a hugger. I shake hands.” Sorry, man.” UMM what?!?! how rude! If you feel that way, just commence with the awkward, one-sided, one-armed back pat. Believe us, we’d never try to hug you again!

We’re huge huggers too. And double-cheek kissers. But we save the kisses for other Persians, because most people would be skeeved. But who wouldn’t want that from a pretty girl, anyway?

  26. Allie@LiveLaughEat on September 6, 2011 at 9:55 pm

Haha I WISH I was more of a hugger!! Maybe I’ll consciously try to be a hugger this week 🙂

  27. Haley @ Fit, Young, and Fabulous on September 6, 2011 at 9:56 pm

My family does lots and lots of hugging. After hugs go around, no one can remember who all they’ve hugged. So then comes round 2 of the hugfest. Then once everyone gets in their cars, our family members wave and wave and honk until they can no longer see the host. It’s a long process. But totally worth it since all of my cousins, aunts, and uncles do not live close together. (:

  28. Nicole on September 6, 2011 at 9:57 pm

I hug more now than I used to.

When you said you’re a hugger, it made me think of Danny Tanner from Full House. He loved hugs!

  29. kathleen @ the daily crumb on September 6, 2011 at 9:57 pm

i’m a total hugger! mainly to avoid awkwardness : ) i feel like if you go in for the hug right of the bat, no hesitation, there’s not that awkward “uhhhh….” moment!

  30. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on September 6, 2011 at 9:58 pm

Depends on who it is whether I hug or not 🙂

Being stabbed with the wooden stick or nipped with any of the metal tools…yes, has happened to me…lots. I always think, and I’m PAYING for this?!

But in recent years, I honestly haven’t gotten any salon pedis. I just do it myself. Skylar and I do our nails together at home. It’s fun being girly together. One day you and the Nugette will be doing the same!

  31. Marguerite Miller on September 6, 2011 at 10:02 pm

I’m a hugger, but not a big one!

I had a pedicure a few years ago, and the trimmed the sides of my big toe with something. A year later I had 2 ingrown toenails! I have never had ingrown toenails! And I let them go, so I wound up with 2 very infected toes! Not fun! I haven’t had a pedicure since the surgery for the toenails a little over a year ago!

I was hoping to get one this week, but I am car-less for a while!

  32. Nicole on September 6, 2011 at 10:05 pm

If I know your name – we are hugging. No question. Haha
Love your iPhone case. I have the reverse – black polka dots on a white background. Love it!

  33. Kiah on September 6, 2011 at 10:07 pm

HUGGER! All the way, any day 🙂

  34. Laura on September 6, 2011 at 10:08 pm

So I have to ask where you got your salad bowl at? My hubby and I went out to dinner awhile back and he loved the bowls which look just like the ones you have.

I have never had a pedicure and I don’t really care to ever have one. I just can not stand the idea of someone touching my feet. Totally freaks me out. I’ll just stick to manicures and facials 🙂

    • mary on September 7, 2011 at 9:42 am

I don’t do pedicures, either! My dad insisted I try and bought me a cert. and I hated it! The mean lady actually tsk-tsked me for the shape of my feet! Now I take care of them daily at home, though.

I’m not a hugger, either, though my daughter is. My family makes fun of me for it but respects it.

  35. Courtney on September 6, 2011 at 10:08 pm

So not a hugger, but my mother-in-law is determined to make me a convert!

  36. Beth on September 6, 2011 at 10:09 pm

    Let’s see the toes!

  37. Emily on September 6, 2011 at 10:10 pm

Are the pumpkin spiced lattes dairy free with soy milk??? If so I am going to be all ON THAT tomorrow 🙂 I always drool over your ‘roons whenver I see them here. I have a dehydrator too, maybe I should get on that too…

  38. Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance on September 6, 2011 at 10:14 pm

Yey for pumpkin spice! And boo for Starbucks not catching the hint and getting almond milk yet 🙁

  42. Kristin @ Wounded Fawn on September 6, 2011 at 10:27 pm

I am a hugger too. I don’t really hug complete strangers but I always greet people I know with a hug and often cheek kiss. If they are from Holland three cheek kisses! I wasn’t always this way but now I embrace it!

    HUGS FOR EVERYONE!

  43. Kristen on September 6, 2011 at 10:30 pm

I have serious hugger-envy. I have a small family and I do hug all of them (well, both of them…), but with friends, I’m never the one to hug first. Maybe I will work on this. 😉

  44. Steph on September 6, 2011 at 10:34 pm

I am a hugger! Glad to hear when someone else is, too. 😀 Your salad beast looks delish!

  45. Allison @ Food for Healing on September 6, 2011 at 10:35 pm

i want those ‘roons, and i want that salad!
i have never had a pedi before, or even a mani. I’m poor and lame i guess haha
I’m not a huge hugger at all, but sometimes hugs are good and appropriate! I’d hug you! lol
I need to get my pumpkin spice latte on asap, i’ve been waiting since they left me last year. yummmm

  46. Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries on September 6, 2011 at 10:37 pm

I’m totally a hugger! I, too, have to remind myself that not everyone is as “huggy” as I am. 🙂

Also, side note, you live in Tucson, AZ? Is that correct? The hot temps you mentioned reminded me of it. I’m from Phoenix area and my sister is at U of A in Tucson, so I was just curious!

  47. Sarah on September 6, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Definitely had my first PSL of the season today, yay!! I am currently in a pedi-phobia stage, after the last person “exfoliated” my big too so hard it bled! Not cool, not even a little!

  48. Barb on September 6, 2011 at 10:39 pm

iTunes playlists would be great!!!!! Lurve!!!! I am definitely a hugger!!! It just seems so right. The roons look yummo!!!

  49. Heather (Strong Smart Healthy) on September 6, 2011 at 10:40 pm

I’m a hug convert. Hated hugging growing up and now I’m all about it!

  50. Catherine C. on September 6, 2011 at 10:46 pm

I love hugging and we like to hug some roons! 🙂
