Welcome back, shrimp

Hey hey hey 😀 Happy Monday!

Thank you so much for your sweet comments about the house. I talked to the Pilot this morning, and while he said he needs a little time to think about it, it looks favorable 😉 We should know for sure by tomorrow!

kitchen

(LOVE the open area and gas stove- we would stain the cabinets, build an island and put in granite countertops)

After I got home last night, I reunited with one of my all-time faves:

shrimp

How I love ze little shrimp.

I didn’t intentionally ditch shrimp, I’ve just been loving on salmon and eggs more than usual. It hit me last night at TJs that I haven’t had shrimp in SO long!

I sauteed some shrimpies in olive oil with sea salt, red pepper flakes and pepper

and made a caesar dressing using *this recipe* with goat’s milk kefir instead of cashews:

dressing

with goat cheddar shavings for *garnish* 😉

cheddar

Salad beast of my dreams:

caesar

Every shrimp bite, a foodgasm.

salad

With a full belly, I settled onto the living room floor with a cup of tea (I’m a floor person- I’d rather sit on the floor than anything, especially when I’m working) and *tried* to get some blog stuff done. Html is a little punk, let me tell ya. If you know an awesome web designer who is familiar with WordPress, please let me know! I’ve contacted 3, all of whom are too busy with other projects. The blog is jonesing for a makeover 😉

For b-fast this morning, I broke out the juicer:

juice

juice (2)

and enjoyed my cup of green with some gluten-free waffles.

waffles

(with goat cream cheese and blueberry sauce)

I’m off to work!

Today’s plan:

-Work

-Target, post office, tailor

-Little bro’s bday dinner

See ya later this afternoon!

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What’s something that you’ve *wanted* to learn, but for whatever reason, it hasn’t happened yet? I’ve wanted to learn more about web design and blog stuff (usually I just call Mara crying and she fixes whatever I broke). Another thing I’d like to learn more about is photography… maybe I’ll read my camera manual one day? 😉

Something to think:

“If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. It’s very important to be aware of them every time they come up.”

I love your blogspot so much. Your adorable!

      thanks girl!

I really want to learn how to make crafty stuff so I can do crafts with my baby when she’s older, but I think she’s going to be stuck with a mom who just knows how to add glue and glitter to pieces of paper 🙂

You have some expensive dreams for your potential kitchen! Although, I do love the extra storage space from having an island. We still have the formica countertops though and probably will until I go back to work when the kids are older.

Sauteed shrimp is the besttttt…looks delicious! I’ve wanted to learn more about web design as well- I’m actually taking a computer science class now where I’m learning HTML and Javascript 🙂 I also realllllllly want to learn to read and write in Arabic (since I can speak it) so hopefully i’ll be doing a program this summer where I can finally gain those skills 🙂

  4. Katie on March 7, 2011 at 11:23 am

Those shrimps look so yummy! 🙂 I’ve always wanted to learn to drive a stick. Especially because when I win the lottery I’m buying a Lambourghini Diablo and there is no way you can have one of those and have it not be a stick! 😉

    • Fitnessista on March 7, 2011 at 11:25 am

      that’s good motivation to learn!

  5. Emma (Sweet Tooth Runner) on March 7, 2011 at 11:23 am

Your posts make me want to invest in a juicer really badly!! Must add to Wish List…! 😉

And I TOTALLY need to learn more about photography!! I am AWFUL!! Your photos always look really good I think- much better than mine anyway! 😛

  6. Natalie @ Will Jog For Food on March 7, 2011 at 11:26 am

Gas stoves are awesome! We have one in our home now, and I had never used one before. So much easier and heats much better.

The shrimp salad look SO good 🙂

That looks like a really nice kitchen! So spacious and bright. I have really been wanting to learn how to snowboard! Hopefully I can do that before the season is over. And now that I’ve started blogging, I DEFINITELY want to learn more about that too. There are some things I’m struggling with for sure! It’s all a process!

Beautiful Deepak Chopra quote! It’s so wonderful to have little reminders like that. Thank you for sharing 🙂

Now, I have to tell you about my coffee this morning! I was inspired by the Chocolate Macaroon coffee that you had yesterday so I decided to try and whip up something like it. I made espresso and then heated up some coconut milk with a tbsp of cocoa powder, a tsp of vanilla, a tbsp of coconut extract and some stevia and then mixed it with a shot of the espresso. It worked! It was totally chocolatey macarooney! Yay!

WHOA> that sounds outta control!!! i need to try it 🙂

I love your breakfast- looks so yumm! My web designer is great, and isn’t too pricey- what was it you were looking for? Let me know 🙂 P.s. I ADORE shrimp….you’ve made me hanker a cravin’ for it now…. haha

    • Fitnessista on March 7, 2011 at 11:33 am

i just want a re-vamp of the blog. new custom theme, new header

  9. Mindy on March 7, 2011 at 11:33 am

I just talked hubby into buying the Jack LaLanne power juicer when we were at Costco yesterday. We LOVE it! Had fresh orange-carrot juice yesterday, and this morning I tried to make a green juice with green apple, some spinach, and then half an orange…it was good, but I think the green apple was too sour. I’m excited for juicing!!

I’ve always wanted to learn dance – belly dance, hip hop, a choreographed Bollywood dance, but never really committed to it. Usually it costs $$ to sign up for these classes and extra time in a regular schedule, so I’ve only done the Bollywood dance, but it was more of a workout. Some day…

Good luck with the house! That’s exciting!!

  10. Leanne on March 7, 2011 at 11:40 am

Very random, but I read a book recently (& loved it… seriously LOVED it) called The Mastery of Love and thought you would like it. It’s so insightful & beautifully written 🙂

    Love the kitchen!

  11. jen @ taste life on March 7, 2011 at 11:43 am

I definitely would like to learn to use my camera beyond the basics. I’m not sure what else, though? I think in my case I’d like to get more arts and crafts stuff back into my life. I know how to do it, I just don’t do it.

  12. Leila on March 7, 2011 at 11:43 am

Hi! I’m new to your blog and am loving the posts! Keep it up!

Maybe I haven’t found the blog where you explain yet, but why do you choose goat cheese, etc instead of regular cow’s milk? I am a vegan and don’t consume any dairy products.. but I didn’t know if there was something about goat’s milk that I haven’t heard/read/learned or if you just preferred the taste?! Please explain (or direct me to the post where you already have!!) Thanks! 🙂

  13. Moni'sMeals on March 7, 2011 at 11:45 am

Great hous, great space I agree.
I too want to get more into photography. I also wanted to really get into Tango and Salsa and the good news is I am! Tango WITH the husband too, it is unheard of, he loves it though.

  14. Jessamyn on March 7, 2011 at 11:45 am

All of the food you made looks so delicious….and absolutely perfect for my dinner and tomorrow’s breakfast. 😉 I’ve had gluten-free waffles hiding out in my freezer for months- time to bust them out!

  15. Ashlei on March 7, 2011 at 11:52 am

Lol maybe I’ll read my camera manual one day too. It’s just too dull.

  16. Tessa on March 7, 2011 at 11:57 am

I hardly ever comment but I’ve been a faithful reader for almost a year now. I LOVE the house you guys are looking at. I agree with the stain idea, and the granite counter tops. I am so very envious of that gas stove!

P.S. Goat cream cheese is now a staple, I am a regular TJs shopper and I have never noticed it until you posted it. It is my new lova! Especially with homemade spelt english muffins and raspberry sauce.

  17. Ashley on March 7, 2011 at 11:59 am

I love my juicer but its way to difficult to clean to use it daily. I’ve always wanted to learn how to do web design stuff too. I’m working on it through the university of google 😉

  18. Ashley on March 7, 2011 at 12:11 pm

The house looks amazing!!! Good luck girlie. Just going through this process, I know how stressful it can be! Let me know if you want to chat about any of it. 🙂 xo

  19. Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries on March 7, 2011 at 12:13 pm

I can’t wait to hear about the house! I’m glad the Pilot gave you a promising response 🙂 I have wanted to learn sign language forever, I just haven’t had the time!

  20. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on March 7, 2011 at 12:20 pm

Aw, I can totally help you with your redesign 🙂 We’ll talk later I’m sure.

  21. VeggieGirl on March 7, 2011 at 12:21 pm

Fingers crossed all goes well with the house!

Shrimp = coming back to me soon 🙂

  22. Valerie @ City|Life|Eats on March 7, 2011 at 12:30 pm

    Your blog always looks lovely.

I have a juice question for you – I just bought a juicer (after 18 months of lots of green smoothies I needed a change) and I love it, but am not sure when is a good time to have a juice. I know that sounds silly, but for me green smoothies generally serve as breakfast, but when I have just juice for breakfast, that’s not enough. I keep reading how you are supposed to have a juice on an empty stomach and then not eat right after, but that does not work for me either. Do you generally have your juice with a meal or before the meal?

  23. Ashley on March 7, 2011 at 12:36 pm

photography! I’d love to take a course at a community college, but I haven’t the time nor the spare money for all the fancy camera equipment!!

  24. Sable @ Squat Like a Lady on March 7, 2011 at 12:36 pm

I desperately need to learn how to dance. I need someone to teach me! My husband is too embarrassed to do so 😉 Seriously though. I just sort of wiggle around like a wet noodle. (Volunteers?!??!)

    Also: the house is BEAUTIFUL!!!!

I have always wanted to learn how to surf. My brother got to learn, but since my skin is too sensitive to go in salt water, I’ve never been able to learn 🙁

  26. Gina on March 7, 2011 at 12:38 pm

I would love to also learn photography and more crafty stuff. I love to do arts and crafts type things but I never know where to start or how to do stuff.

  27. Allison @ Food For Healing on March 7, 2011 at 12:38 pm

i want that kitchen! a big nice kitchen is definitely something ill be looking for when i start house shopping.

my bf did my blog design, but unfortunately he is too busy as well. bummer. I’d do it, but have no idea how haha.

i haven’t had shrimp in an insanely long time too, i’ve been actually kind of craving it lately, all sauteed up!

  28. Mo on March 7, 2011 at 12:38 pm

Regarding your question about learning something new . . . years ago my husband bought me a mandolin. I already play guitar, so I don’t think it would take too much to learn what I need to know, I just haven’t had the time to find someone to teach me!
I would also love to learn how to box well. Yes, my dreams are to be a mandolin playing boxer. Take care – good luck with the house.

  29. Melissa @ Chocolate & Kisses on March 7, 2011 at 12:39 pm

Those shrimp do look tasty! I happen to have some on hand, you might have inspired my dinner tonight! I’m with you on the photography front. Just bought a new camera which is so much better than my original (Kodak from 6 years ago!). I need to read the manual as well!

  30. Kirsten on March 7, 2011 at 12:42 pm

Do you know Pasta Queen aka Janet Fulda? She does blog web design stuff, and it’s really nice imo. Plus she seems like she’d be great to work with!

I’ve always wanted to learn the violin, but I’m not musically inclined at all, so I’m scared!

  33. Mandy (theamazonprincess) on March 7, 2011 at 12:45 pm

haha, so funny about the floor! I am sitting on the floor as I type, my poor couch never gets sat on. 🙁 But I would love to learn all about photography too! I have always had a knack for capturing really cool photos ever since I was little. I think I have “the eye.” 😉

  34. Kirsten on March 7, 2011 at 12:51 pm

*Jennette* Fulda. I don’t actually know her, but i love her blog and her portfolio.

  35. JRM on March 7, 2011 at 12:53 pm

Do you remember how much goat milk keifer you used to make your dressing? If you just eyed it, that’s fine I can do that too, just thought I ask in case you measured it.

The floors in that kitchen are gorgeous!

    • Fitnessista on March 7, 2011 at 2:21 pm

      i don’t remember- maybe 1/2 c? i’d eyeball it 🙂

  36. zoe (and the beatles) on March 7, 2011 at 12:59 pm

i’m such a floor person, too! my roommate and i sold our couches because they were an awkward size for our (small) apartment and said we would buy new ones to replace the old ones…but we have yet to do it! and it’s been like, six months. there’s just so much more room now (for things like yoga! and pow-wowing!) and we love the floor so much (and out lease is up in may) it just seems pointless.

also, those waffles? i want. !

  37. Kayla on March 7, 2011 at 1:02 pm

I’m with you on both web design and photography. I took a photography class in high school, and I loved it, but I was more fascinated with developing my own film and exposure in stuff. I know a little HTML, but I could never redesign my blog — let alone design a header in PhotoShop. I just am not that visually creative, I don’t think. I really want to learn to knit, though — give my hands something to do while I’m watching TV. 🙂

  38. Sarah S. on March 7, 2011 at 1:02 pm

Things on my To-Learn List: graphic design (InDesign, PhotoShop, Publisher, etc..), use a fancy camera (must purchase one first!), get more into yoga (so many of my fellow lulus are very devoted to their practice so I need to go with them), not be scared of CrossFit.

Oh, and cooking. Must be more adventurous with cooking.

  39. Lauren on March 7, 2011 at 1:03 pm

I love your soon to be new kitchen! The windows by the sink are great!

I also would like to learn more about photography. I started an online class but never finished it, but I have a bunch of friends that took classes on this website and take awesome pics now. The website is JessicaSprague.com Click on “classes” and you’ll see where to click on “photography”.

  40. Errign on March 7, 2011 at 1:09 pm

    Hey Gina,

I bought the custom css package for wordpress for my blog & I know a bit about it (I’m by no means a web designer), but if you want to email me, I might be able to help ya out a little?

    • Errign on March 7, 2011 at 1:10 pm

But I can do headers & color changes, etc, if that’s whatcha lookin’ for?

    • Fitnessista on March 7, 2011 at 2:21 pm

i need to hire someone to do it for me.. there’s no way i’m going to brave it myself haha

I love shrimpies too! I actually recently made an amazing meal with them – Basil and Tomato Shrimp with Orzo (http://eatspinrunrepeat.wordpress.com/2011/03/02/recap-try-something-new-tuesday-46/) and it was THE BOMB!

I’d also love to learn more about web design. A photography class is another one on my bucket list! 🙂

  42. Beth @ DiningAndDishing on March 7, 2011 at 1:16 pm

I’d love to learn more about SEO – I haven’t the slightest clue how it all works! Just bought a book about it so I should get to that soon :).

As for your wanting to learn more about photography… I just took a class and it was SO helpful! I feel like the manual was just too intimidating to be learned on it’s own. I have a much better idea of what I’m doing since my class finished!

  43. Karen on March 7, 2011 at 1:24 pm

I love your blog! I think you have such a great “voice” and always look forward to seeing your current workouts and eats and I wish you luck with the new house! I am also in the househunting trenches and it is so exciting!

  46. Brittany on March 7, 2011 at 1:31 pm

I really want to learn more about healthy eating and exercise. These have been put on the back burner lately with school. I’m going to school for photography and I need another spring break! Also, the house looks wonderful, especially the kitten wallpaper haha 🙂

Good luck with the blog stuff — I’m in the process of switching my blog name and making the change to self hosting 🙂 It sucks but it is kind of exciting!

There is so much I want to learn — lately I have been really itching to learn another language. I took German in college but have always wanted to learn Spanish.

  48. Stefanie @TheNewHealthy on March 7, 2011 at 1:39 pm

  49. Christine (The Raw Project) on March 7, 2011 at 1:47 pm

The salad looks good and I need to break out my juicer more. Love the kitchen!

I’ve wanted to learn more yoga and Spanish, but have been short on time.
