10 months: some things we’re loving

I don’t ever want these posts to seem like I think  products make you a “better” parent.

If you’re a regular Family page reader, you know how I feel about things. Loving your baby, providing warmth, comfort and food for your child is what makes you a great parent. That all being said: from my experience so far, kids like toys, books and music. There are also products that exist to make life a little easier or more convenient, and while not totally necessary, they’re nice to have. I love learning from other moms and wish more moms would share the products that they find helpful and that their babies love. There’s so much out there and sometimes the really important purchases are overwhelming to research (like a toddler car seat).

That all being said, here are some of the things we’re loving at 10 months:

-This sign:

Sleeping baby

We’ve had a small note taped to the door bell since shortly after Liv was born, saying “please do not ring or knock.” Usually if someone is coming over, they’ll text when they get here and we’ll open the door -otherwise, Bella goes CRAZY- and we’re cool with packages just being left on the doorstep. The sign is pretty weathered since it’s been up since last February or so, and a couple of weeks ago, the FedEx guy woke Liv up from 3 naps. 3! He banged on the door, Bella started barking like a maniac and that was the end of it. I found the above sign on Etsy, and you can order any color combo you like.

-Her little pusher, *Boikido Wooden Push And Play – Rabbit Wagon I wanted to find a wood version and this one had great reviews on Amazon. She LOVES it. It’s taken her a little while to get the hang of actually pushing it, but she loves to toys on the sides (they make a little maze), putting toys in the pusher and taking them out. Oh, and sometimes, she’ll sit in the pusher.. it’s pretty hilarious.

Pusher

-This CD, *Animal Playground. We borrowed it from the library and the song variety is so unique- lots of children’s songs from around the world. Especially fun: tracks 2, 6 and 7.

Animal playground

-Dollies. Watching Liv play make believe with her dolls may be the cutest thing ever. She always kisses them and will babble as she moves them around.

Dollies

-*Balboa Baby Shopping Cart Cover, Suri. I wasn’t sure how much use I’d get out of this, especially since I wear Liv in the wrap most of the time when we’re out, but it is incredible for restaurant dining. It fits all of the high chairs we’ve tried, and when we get home, I just throw it in the washer. It washes beautifully, has its own strap, she can ride in the carts at stores and it gives her a little extra comfort.

Any products that you and your baby love? Please leave their age in the comment section, too- maybe it will help other moms with holiday gift ideas.

Current favorite music to play?

We’re huge fans of salsa dance party….

Hope you’re having a wonderful Monday <3

xoxo

    Olivia always looks so happy!

Question for you – the stool you have that has her name engraved on it, where did you get it? I mentioned it to my mother as a possible Christmas gift for my niece/her grandmother and she loved the idea of it.

    Thank you!

When my son was about 3 months old, my husband sent me flowers. I had been struggling and finally got my son down for a nap (!) and then the delivery guy rang the bell and banged on the door and totally woke my son up. I LOST.IT….to say that I was, perhaps, less than appreciative of the gift is a serious understatement! He is 12 now…luckily we now laugh about it.

I really appreciated your first paragraph about priority parenting. Loving them is by far the best parenting method, but everyone needs a quick break and the little ones sure do appreciate cool toys! 🙂

OH I like that pusher! Max loves to push things around, especially furniture, and his big giant diaper box (I think it is because it has pictures of babies on it).

We have a little handmade sign for when Max is sleeping and we are expecting someone (or for use on Halloween, haha!). Usually the doorbell isn’t a problem. What has been a problem is DH closing the door into the garage which is very loud and wakes Max up every.single.time.

Max doesn’t really have lots of baby things, so I am unsure of what he likes. He is mostly happy playing with his blocks and some small toys. He plays with this bouncy tigger thing at daycare though

Dancing baby= making my day 🙂

My 8 month old son loves blocks or really anything that stacks and falls. He’s even learning patience, which I hope carries through to the toddler years….yeah right! He was grabbing them when I only stacked 2 or 3. Then he realized that if he waited, I’d stack them even higher. It’s so cute because he just watches and pants and gets very excited, then when I’m done, he knocks them down…and eats them.

He also likes “talking” to his Leapfrog Scout Puppy.

Oh, and my son thanks you for your previous baby food posts. He is LOVING those combos!

Awww <3 her. We, too are fans of salsa 😉 I've got video of Pat salsa dancing with Manus at 3 weeks old -poor little fella has the weirdest look on his face as his daddy was stepping and turning!

I have to put my dogs in their kennels when my kids nap…either wise I have the same bark problem. I had a sign taped to the door saying do not knock but one of my older child’s friends kept knocking and ringing the bell during nap time…she is 7 and didn’t know how to read it!

Oh, I forgot to mention that my daughter’s favorite doll is baby Stella. It is
So cute! The pacifier is magnetic and sticks to mouth. There are tons of accessories too.

My 9 month old loves his Fisher Price musical table, his fake remote control (he loves real ones too),as well as red Dixie cups, Tupperware, and plastic balls.

Did you ever decide on a convertible car seat? We need to get one very soon. 🙂

So funny–we ordered a similar sign from Etsy last night! I go through the same thing with G’s naps and the dogs. It’s driving me INSANE!

    That video is ADORABLE!

Tripp is 5 and a half months and LOVES his jumperoo: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Laugh-and-Learn-Jumperoo/dp/B000WUD83O/ref=sr_1_3?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1352354072&sr=1-3&keywords=fisher+price+jumperoo

I have it in the living room where I can see from the kitchen so it’s super helpful when I’m fixing a quick snack or if I’m folding laundry on the couch. Sometimes I’ll be playing with him on the floor and he just keeps turning around and looking at it like “mama! I want to go over there!”

Oooh I wish I saw that pusher when Avery was learning to walk. So cute!

At 17 months, she is overloaded with toys now, thanks to family. (Not that I don’t appreciate!) Some of her favorites are basically anything with a face so she can share her drinks and snacks with and give kisses to. Also loves Violet (Leapfrog dog that you personalize through your computer). And she’s starting to master the Leapfrog Tag Jr reading books with Violet.

I personally refuse to buy her any more toys for a while. I’ve been trying to find stuff around the house to keep her occupied. Ex: while in a small hotel room for a week, I cleaned/dried out a Vitamin Water bottle. Took the label off, and filled it with all of her plastic forks and spoons. I briefly showed her how to dump them out and put them back in, and she copied immediately. Kept her busy for a good hour or so at a time…and we eventually made a game out of it using colors and counting. Stuff like this is awesome for travelling because it cuts down on the amount of toys you need to bring.
