Let’s Do it Again

Hey guys!

(The *work* face)

I’m back, after a lovely evening of early sleep and generous guacamole.

chipotle

Thank you, lady at Chipoddle, for being so heavy-handed with the guac. Usually I ask for double guacamole, but in her case, that would have been an entire burrito bowl full Winking smile  I loved it.

So I’m trying this blog-from-the-netbook thang again. I exchanged the dinosaur at Best Buy for a new one, and from what I can tell so far, it’s sooooo much faster!

And it’s blue Smile

netbook

My new bag has a netbook compartment in it, so I think it will be pretty easy to stash it in there and blog from work.

Something else I’m trying again?

Running.

Yup, I said it Winking smile

As you guys know, running and I broke up after the last Princess Half Marathon. We’ve been casually seeing each other, went on a couple of dates, and yesterday, we had a rendezvous on the treadmill Winking smile And it felt GOOD.

I think I realized what the prob with running was: he made me want to be something I’m not. I really loved 5ks and 10ks (15k was pushing it), but the Type A competitive person that I am was convinced that I needed to keep adding distance on. So I ran a half marathon (which was fun.. when it was OVER, haha) and then another one, and injured my knee. Doing higher distances, even though deep down I wasn’t crazy about it, was what took the fun out of running. I’ve realized I’m a shorter distance kinda girl, and I’m gonna stick with that. The awesome thing is that there are SO many races in Orlando, so I *may* be signing up for a couple Winking smile

I also think the beautiful weather has lit a running fire under my booty. The dogs are happy too, because we’ve been going on a lot more walks.

Sometimes, instead of doing her biznazz, Viesa stops and puts her nose in the air to smell October.

Little nuggets Smile

Here’s today’s packed lunch for work:

lunch

Kamut bread with hummus, lettuce and cucumber

mediocre miso dressing

organic apple

lunch (2)

+ a Larabar and goat’s milk yogurt to snack on

I’m off to do the work thang and then tonight we’re going to a movie theatre with couches, wine and black bean burgers. In other words, my dream come true Smile

Have a great day!

xoxo,

Gina

Yay for getting back together with running- and negotiating the relationship on YOUR terms 🙂 Sounds like a keeper! I totally would have hugged that Chipotle lady, btw.

glad you’re all rested! i’m going to start running again too…actually more like jogging. lol. i pulled my quads two months ago and now they’re back in biz. my sis just gave birth 4 weeks ago and eventhough she already lost 25 lbs of baby weight (she only has 9 lbs to go), she is aching to run. so we’re doing a half-marathon in april. eeek! i’m scurrred!! but as with everything in life, if you work hard at something, you will be rewarded… 🙂 cheers! have a great saturday!

  3. Hotchick on October 9, 2010 at 3:55 pm

That’s a really gorgeous pic of you. That theatre sounds awesome, my husband brings his own alc to the theatre, I’m pretty sure people around us can smell it though:p

  4. Jaclyn on October 9, 2010 at 4:08 pm

Does that *movie theatre* mean your couch, with wine and black bean burgers?? 😉
Running: you have to just roll with what you feel! Personally, I’m a hot yoga kinda girl! 😀

  5. Sana on October 9, 2010 at 4:13 pm

Crazy idea, but running a short distance is OK!

So I was saving Chipotle for date night with the boy. BUT AHHH! seeing the guac on your bloggy is killing meeee!

  6. Kristina @ spabettie on October 9, 2010 at 4:53 pm

we call it Chipoodle too. 😉 we LOVE that place. NOM.

Portland has a theater like that, called The Living Room. very cool and fun. Have a great night!!

  7. Heather (Heather's Dish) on October 9, 2010 at 5:14 pm

chipotle has the best guac next to homemade. i LOVE that stuff! and i’m glad you came to that realization. running can be so great when it’s done in a context that we enjoy!

  8. holly @ couchpotatoathlete on October 9, 2010 at 5:52 pm

We almost went to Chipotle for lunch today — that guac is looking mighty tasty 🙂

Good for you for starting to run more. I recently did the same (fell back in love over a 10 mile last weekend) but I’m considering another marathon next year, so I haven’t given up on distance yet!

  9. gigi on October 9, 2010 at 5:58 pm

I think we have the same dream 😉

  10. Chelsea at Striking Balance on October 9, 2010 at 5:59 pm

I’m glad you enjoyed your “night off”!! Sometimes you just need one!

Your new relationship terms with running sound great. My body is just not made to run (I’ve had multiple injuries, and a few surgeries), so long distances will never happen for me, and I’m finally coming to terms with that! 🙂

  11. Food & Other Things on October 9, 2010 at 6:12 pm

I feel the same way about running…I’m all about the shorter distances (pretty much nothing over 10Ks)!

  12. BIOCHEMISTA on October 9, 2010 at 6:24 pm

I think running shorter distances is a great idea. 5Ks and 10Ks are my favorite races 🙂

  13. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on October 9, 2010 at 6:25 pm

“a movie theatre with couches, wine and black bean burgers.”–ive been to movie theaters that serve wine and real food, so nice! And much handier than smuggling your own in…which I have been known to, ahem, maybe do 🙂

Running in Orlando…best race of my entire life was the Disney Half w/ Scott. I loved that race, it was magical and you are so right, 5 & 10ks are nice, anything longer and it can really tax one’s body. 10k is my fave racing distance but for my normal day to day life running, anything longer than 2-3 miles and seriously I dont want to do it. If I cant do it in 20-30 mins, I dunno, I just dont want to anymore. Becuase you’re so right, injuries happen! And I am trying to live life with less cardio, not more. I love the mental head clear of long-ish runs but my body doesnt. So like a 5k distance is a good day to day distance for me.

Glad to hear you’re back in biz with both running (and yes tons of local races I’d surmise in O-Town!) and your new netbook! YAY for both!

    🙂

Boo for work but HOORAY for chipotle 🙂 I love the stuff! Hugs!

  15. hippierunner on October 9, 2010 at 6:31 pm

That movie theatre sounds amazing. Black bean burgers?! I’m insanely jealous! Have fun! 🙂

  16. caroline on October 9, 2010 at 6:44 pm

Love the lulu bag! Just got the backpack and your black one in oasis! LOVING IT!

  17. LisaG on October 9, 2010 at 7:09 pm

We saw Life as we Know it at the movies then had your favorite salmon dinner at Longhorns. I was thinking about you. I even had a big pom margarita in your honor!

  18. Cara Craves... on October 9, 2010 at 7:12 pm

Sounds like a fun movie experience!
    Enjoy!

  19. Alissa on October 9, 2010 at 7:32 pm

I just did my first half at Disney’s Wine and Dine. Running has never been my friend, I hate it. After finishing the race I hated it even more, but the next day I fell in love with it. I might have missed it while I was gone, but what bag is this one? I LOVE IT!

  20. Jessica @ Jessica Balances on October 9, 2010 at 7:54 pm

I totally understand what you mean about running – I did one half, and I think that might have been enough for me (for a while, anyway)! I just think what we do for workouts needs to be FUN first of all – that’s what is important, to me, at least. And I think it’s good for workouts to come and go in our lives… if we did the same things all the time, we’d get so bored!

  21. Errign on October 9, 2010 at 8:57 pm

I think shorter distances (up to around 5-7 miles) are my thing too. I’ve never run longer than that, but I’ve never wanted to, either.

FYI, on my computer, your smiley faces are showing up with a little grey box around them – dunno if you wanted ’em like that. 🙂

  22. Whitney on October 9, 2010 at 9:05 pm

I’ve found I just can’t do too much of one thing when it comes to exercising. I get bored easily. I schedule a race, train for it and then take a break. I’ll never be one of those life long marathon runners…it’s just not in my make up. Weird random side note, but I noticed in the first picture you have one of those dog covers for your backseat. I have one too…it’s awesome and it really saves the leather 🙂

  23. Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat on October 9, 2010 at 9:12 pm

I definitely support you reuniting with running! I agree with you about the distance–running isn’t always about getting to the marathon distance.

Love the pictures of the pups!

  24. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on October 9, 2010 at 9:27 pm

I want to go to a theater like that!

  25. KimLivesHealthy on October 9, 2010 at 10:27 pm

So glad to hear you’re back into running! Orlando has tons of races, if you check out Track Shack they do one almost every 2 weeks and also have a list of regional events. We also have some great trails to go running on outside if you want to get away from the elliptical. I hope to see you at a race this season!

  26. Molly on October 9, 2010 at 10:36 pm

I love the “mediocre” dressing 🙂 Your lunches always look so healthy and delicious!

  27. Brittany on October 9, 2010 at 11:38 pm

When I read “little nuggets” under Bella’s picture all i could think of was small dog poop – although I’m not sure that’s what you were going for – I got a kick out of it. 😉

I almost bought that exact lululemon bag today until I found out a 15” laptop won’t fit. boo!

  28. Stefanie @thenewhealthy on October 10, 2010 at 2:59 am

I just bought my son a netbook for his birthday and it was extremely slow at first, until we cleared off some of the pre-installed programs, then it sped right up! 🙂

  29. Jess @moderngirlsguide on October 10, 2010 at 5:13 am

Glad you had a nice chillax. I’m craving guacamole now!!! Loving the new netbook

  30. Lisa on October 10, 2010 at 6:38 am

That sounds so funn! I hate movie theatre seats, so I would be all over that one! =)

  31. Heather on October 10, 2010 at 6:59 am

    Love. This. Post.

It rings true for me too Gina! Us Type As sometimes feel like we always need to do more and be the best. So not the case!

I went through a similar situation with running and now, we are GOOD acquaintances. I realized I love the atmosphere of group exercise classes like spinning and kickboxing so much more. When I want to clear my head, running is my main squeeze (next in line to weights of course!).

  32. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on October 10, 2010 at 8:28 am

I had the exact same problem with running! I love running 5Ks but when I started to push myself to go farther, I stopped liking it as much. Exercise is SO much less enjoyable when we push ourselves to do something we don’t truly want to do. I’m glad you’ve realized what works for you in terms of running! 😀

  33. Dani on October 11, 2010 at 6:25 am

Im a shorter distance running kinda gal. I think I could happily do a 10km and maybe stretch it to a half marathon but thats it!

  34. Clare @ Fitting It All In on October 11, 2010 at 3:26 pm

I’m kind of the opposite…I don’t like running UNLESS I’m training for something! I won’t make myself do it…I’ll just do some half hearted magazine cardio instead:) Races make me push myself and I love it!
