4/12: Friday Faves

-The way Caroline sleeps in the middle splits.

Caro 1 of 1 4

She’s quite an accomplished canine yogini.

-Homemade bubbles. Easiest thing ever- vegetable glycerin, dish soap + water. The bubble queen is a huge fan, and it’s nice to be able to quickly make more bubble mix at home sans chemicals.

[Side note: I have an awesome little concoction coming up next week on the blog using the vegetable glycerin. Stay tuned!]

-Chocolate pudding with ALMOND MILK. Rocked my world.

Pudding 1 of 1

I’m already scheming ways to make my own… unless someone has an awesome recipe? Banana pudding would be great, too 😉

Lunch 1 of 1 4

(greek salad with hummus, chicken, balsamic dressing, 2 amazeballs and pudding packed for work)

-This red lip stain. I love the scent and staying powder of this lip balm, and it’s the perfect pop of color when I skip makeup.

-Our bird condo babies! How stinkin’ cute are they?!

Baby birds 1 of 1

They’ve been having flying lessons with mama bird… it’s pretty adorable to watch.

-Mexican food

G grill

margaritas

and mariachi music.

G grill2

We had an awesome feast at G Grill with Nana and Tata last night. I really love being stationed in Tucson <3

-The fact that my BFF Jeni is coming to stay with us for the long weekend. We have some fun things planned, and I’ve been counting down the days until she’s here! I’m off to grab some fruit and groceries to have on hand, clean up a little bit, and spend the day with lovebug before girls’ night tonight.

Hope you have a very happy Friday!

xoxo

Gina

What are you looking forward to this weekend? Any fun fitness events or races coming up? From now on, I’ll be teaching a Sunday night Zumba Party class at work. paaaaarrrtttttyyyyyyyy!

Oh goodness! I am officially jealous!! Guadalajara Grill is my absolute favorite place in Tucson for Mexican. I lived there for eight years and it was the first place I dragged my boyfriend to eat at when I came back this past fall. Thanks for giving me a happy memory from one of my faves.
Oh, and Caroline is adorable. My Husky does the same thing. We call it his froggy legs. Except when he spreads out it takes up a lot of real estate. Happy Friday!

  2. Aubrei on April 12, 2013 at 11:56 am

May I ask where you got the Almond milk pudding? My little guy has a dairy and soy allergy so that pudding might just be perfect for him!

What an awesome Friday! I love how big the condo birdies are getting and Caroline is soo adorable!! Any luck with the leash yet?

  4. Ashley @ Life and Fitness on April 12, 2013 at 12:01 pm

My dog sleeps the same way except on her back. It doesn’t matter what loud sound goes off, it doesn’t even phase her. I wish I could be that comfortable when I sleep haha. Happy weekend!

  5. Jay on April 12, 2013 at 12:04 pm

    Margarita looks amazing!

  6. Nina @ Too Hottie For That Body on April 12, 2013 at 12:06 pm

What a fun Friday you have planned. It looks like you’ve got the whole balance things down to a science. This weekend we’ll be celebrating the baby’s first birthday… bubbles will be a main event.

  7. Allison @ Train Eat Repeat on April 12, 2013 at 12:11 pm

oh you should see the way my one cat sleeps. its quite hilarious.
as for this weekend, I’m not sure what we have planned.. but I did sign up for my first duathlon! Its on May 4th, so coming up pretty quick!

  8. Liz on April 12, 2013 at 12:14 pm

Man! That salsa looks awesome! If I’m ever in Tucson, I’m going Guadalajara Grill for sure.

  9. Michelle on April 12, 2013 at 12:21 pm

Olivia’s little ponytail is so stinkin’ cute! You’ve got me craving a margarita now. Yum. Have a fun weekend with your friend! We’re escaping the city for Mammoth Lakes. Wahoo!

  10. Lucie@FitSwissChick on April 12, 2013 at 12:22 pm

Liv is so big already! I adore her ponytails.
Here’s my homemade chocolate pudding – or maybe more cream, but still delicious: 1/2 ripe banana, 2tsp cocoa powder, 2 tbsp almond butter, stevia and a little almond milk (add amount approximate to the thickness/liquidness) – mash all together and feast.
Enjoy your weekend with your BFF! I am taking a restweek and have tons of time to knit, walk, read, and photograph 🙂

  11. Lisa on April 12, 2013 at 12:22 pm

Oh gosh, Caroline is too precious.
Looks like a great Friday for you!
I love Mexican food more than anything!:)

The Mexican food does look amazing!
This weekend I’m playing in a hockey tournament! Woohoo!
    Can’t wait.

I love that lip stain!! Lush products are definitely a favorite of mine.

  14. Tara on April 12, 2013 at 12:34 pm

How does Liv feel bout Mariachi? All of my boyfriend’s little nieces and nephews l-o-v-e it!

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2013 at 2:42 pm

      she LOVES them 🙂

  15. Sonia the Mexigarian on April 12, 2013 at 12:45 pm

Lol. Lando lays like that too 🙂

The Grill looks like a fun place. Wish we had something like that around here. All we really have is El Torito ;\ Seriously. You’d think in San Jose we’d have more variety in our Mexican food places.

  16. Amy on April 12, 2013 at 12:55 pm

Homemade bubbles seem easy, but the bottles from the store are even easier! 🙂
I’m so surprised to see your husband in his work clothes so often, especially since it’s a uniform. The first thing my husband does when he gets home is change and he’s biz casual!

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2013 at 2:42 pm

      haha true that.
when we’re out for dinner, he meets us there from work.

  17. Sarah @ Yogi in Action on April 12, 2013 at 12:57 pm

I am so jealous of all your outdoor pictures- looks absolutely beautiful in Tucson!

No exciting plans for me this weekend- except for lots and lots of sleep. Glorious sleep 🙂

  18. Karissa on April 12, 2013 at 1:14 pm

Happy Friday!! Food looks amazing, and I freaking love that pic of Caroline- ha ha my dog sleeps like that, completely upside down, or, more and more frequently, with her little front paws crossed. The picture of your pup made me smile! 🙂
Have fun with your BFF!!! Friend weekend, YAY!

  19. Jessica @ Prayers and Apples on April 12, 2013 at 1:16 pm

Wish my store carried that pudding – i love almond milk! 🙂

  20. Amanda on April 12, 2013 at 1:20 pm

Where did you get that pudding? I’m really contemplating going gluten/dairy/soy free. It’s a little scary to venture out in that direction, but I think I would feel a lot better.

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2013 at 2:40 pm

      whole foods!

  21. Amanda Lee on April 12, 2013 at 1:26 pm

Is that entire dish salsa!? That’s amazingly awesome. We always run out.. that’d be perfect portion size for us. 😉

    Have a great weekend!

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2013 at 2:40 pm

yes, they make it at your table!!!

  22. Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health on April 12, 2013 at 1:41 pm

I love that you make your own bubbles for Liv. That’s such a great idea. And I’m going to be on the hunt for that pudding, it sounds like a perfect weeknight treat. Happy Friday!

  23. Miranda @ Miranda Runs on April 12, 2013 at 1:43 pm

HAHA my dog totally does the same thing as Caroline! Sometimes she sleeps with one leg tucked under her and the other spread wide.

  24. Amy on April 12, 2013 at 1:48 pm

Hi Gina! It´s my first time commenting and I love your blog! I´ve been using this pudding recipe from a Williams and Sonoma kids cookbook for years and it´s perfect and so easy: http://www.williams-sonoma.com/recipe/chocolate-pudding.html I can´t wait to try it with almond milk! Thanks for the idea!

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2013 at 2:40 pm

  27. Amanda @ .running with spoons. on April 12, 2013 at 2:18 pm

Those Zensoy puddings are my absolute favorite! They actually have a banana version that I’d kill to try, but I haven’t seen it in any stores up here so far. And this weekend will have me snowboarding up in the mountains. It’ll probably be my last trip up for the season, so hopefully the weather permits and we don’t get rained out or something!

    Happy Friday!

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2013 at 2:37 pm

ohhhh i didn’t even know they made banana!! on the hunt….

  28. Liza on April 12, 2013 at 2:29 pm

So totally random question, but is it normal for pilots to stay in their uniforms all the time? I have no experience with people in the military so I’m really curious about this. Does your husband wear his uniform a lot? Do his fellow pilots?

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2013 at 2:37 pm

he’s in his flight suit in a lot of my pics because when we go out, he’s heading straight from work to meet us there. i’ll pack civilian clothes for him occasionally, but with all of livi’s stuff it’s on a blue moon basis. it’s not uncommon for him to work 12-14 hour days, so if he can escape from work to meet us, he’ll sometimes have to go back in.

  29. Yin on April 12, 2013 at 2:41 pm

May I ask what the difference between lip stain and lipstick is? I’m trying to mature my look and have been looking for a dark color for my lips. Would be great if you or Meg did a post of your faves!

My weekend will hopefully include some running and a much needed dinner with a friend I haven’t hung out with since January (crazy!).

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2013 at 2:46 pm

sure, i’ll ask meg if she would do one!

      • Yin on April 12, 2013 at 2:53 pm

        Thank you :)!

  30. Jackie on April 12, 2013 at 2:42 pm

    LOVE that pudding.

  31. Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona on April 12, 2013 at 3:45 pm

I love good Mexican food. I’m lucky that there’s a really good Mexican restaurant not too far from me.

I love Lush – they always have so many good things in there.

  32. rebecca on April 12, 2013 at 4:26 pm

FYI, I’ve found that you can take any “regular” (dairy) pudding recipe and sub in almond milk (even if the recipe calls for whole milk). I’ve done this with many pudding recipes and they all came out delicious. My family (who mocks my almond milk) could not tell.

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2013 at 4:39 pm

that’s good to know! for some recipes with a very particular texture, almond milk doesn’t work as well

  33. CourtStar @ StarSystemz on April 12, 2013 at 6:29 pm

Obsessed with LUSH! The best stuff ever I swear! Have you tried the eyeliner? Its AMAZING! Have a great weekend 🙂 Love + Shine CourtStar

  34. Emily on April 12, 2013 at 7:09 pm

Ohh, that pick with Pilot in his flight suit holding Livi is just too. much. cute! And Caro … and the baby birds. You are surrounded with cute right now!

Have a wonderful weekend with Jenn!

  35. Chelsea on April 12, 2013 at 7:15 pm

My cocker spaniel sleeps in that position ALL the time! And I love that lip stain – it looks like a shade you could get away with wearing with anything 🙂 GREAT Friday Faves!

Oh my goodness, Caroline’s sleeping position — too funny!

    Chocolate Avocado Pudding
It’s raw & vegan and made with nut milk although coconut milk is awesome too!

I actually started making my own chocolate pudding (using almond milk) a few months ago. It’s more of a healthy version because it contains flax and cacao powder but it’s still delicious! Here’s the link: http://myrawrecovery.com/2013/03/05/vegan-gf-5-minute-chocolate-pudding/

Ran the Blue Bell 10K this morning! So fun!

And I didn’t know that Lush had lip balm! I will have to check it out next time I’m in Austin.

  42. Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian on April 13, 2013 at 1:16 pm

Those birds are adorable! It must be such fun to watch them in there. One thing I’m looking forward to is getting back into working out after recovering from a cold, and then doing lots of relaxing after a super stressful week!

    Hi Gina,
I know it’s off topic – are there any Zumba DVDs you could recommend for a home workout?
I can’t go to a gym right now, so I’m looking for a way to try Zumba at home 🙂
    Thanks!

  44. Charlotte on April 14, 2013 at 4:57 pm

I have a recepie for chocolate mouse, maybe that will do?

    125 gram dark chocolate
    3 egg yolk
    3 egg whites
1 tbl raw sugar (but it’s fine without it also!)

Just melt the chocolate and mix with the yolks (and put the suger in if you want it), then beat the whites until it’s “hard” and mix with the chocolate. Put it in bowls and cover with film in the fridge for about 4 hours. It’s SOOO good!

I’m from sweden so my english isn’t that good, excuse me 🙂
