97% of the time… it works every time

Hi friends! So glad you liked Mara’s guest post. She has a knack for creating recipes I would LOVE- can’t wait to make the sweet potatoes!!

Holler from the ATL 😀

airport2

I landed a little while ago, did some airport cardio (walked/explored some terminals) and then grabbed some dinner. On our last flight, I also experienced some of the highest-quality birth control ever: 3 hr 45 min next to a SHRIEKING child. I felt bad for the kiddo (and parents), but it was painful. That experience did a great job of promptly squashing any desire to procreate, for myself and everyone sitting around us. Pain.

Thank goodness for excellent reading material:

and a meditation podcast on the iPhone 😉

Dinner was Moe’s!

I got a question on my last post about toning shoes, and since quite a few of ya’ll have asked me about them, thought we could talk about them tonight.

Do toning shoes work?

new-balance-toning Source

The short answer is yes.

The more detailed answer is that toning shoes throw off your balance, by being a little higher, curved soles, and more difficult to walk in. Since you have to work a little harder to stabilize, you’re engaging different muscles in your legs, which is what they’re intended to do, so technically they *work*. From using the shoes, your legs may see a tiny bit of new definition but nothing drastic (sorry). Also with the off-balance of the shoes, you have a much higher chance of injuring yourself from twisting your ankle, or eating cement from trying to walk around.

Some toning shoes look super cute:

(my nana rocks Fit Flops and they look awesome- she loves them)

and other styles are not so pretty 😉

Definitely use caution with your toning shoes if you decide to wear them, but I have to say that lifting weights will give better results.

Have you worn toning shoes before? Would you?

See ya in Valdosta- I cant wait to see Jeni and her new baby 😀

I have Fit Flops and I love them, though not for toning (I’m with ya on the strength training to build muscle). However, I find my Fit Flops to be extremely comfy, I love the arch support and I think they help with my Restless Leg Syndrome.

I haven’t tried toning shoes, but I have a few friends that like them. I personally just stick with wearing my regular running shoes more. I tend to walk faster, run up stairs, do some impromptu squats or lunges when nobody is around and just in general “Play” more when I’m wearing them 🙂

“highest-quality birth control ever: 3 hr 45 min next to a SHRIEKING child” … I bought the below headphones for my husband who travels a lot for work. He looooves them. Pricey, but totally worth it if you fly a lot 😉

I have a pair of Fit Flops and I LOVE them! I did buy them when I worked at Lady Foot Locker and got 50% off, so I’m not sure if I would have regularly spent $50 on a pair of flip flops… but my goodness they are incredibly comfortable! I agree with your explanation of how they “work”.

I have a pair of fit flops and I didn’t get them because they were toning shoes, I got them because they are just so damn comfortable!! Totally worth the money and super cute too!

I bought some Reebok Easy Tone shoes in the summer because I work at a daycare, and we spent sooo much time walking around that I figured why not? I don’t know if I saw any changes or not, but they are ridiculously comfortable!

    Hey,

Just a quick comment about toning shoes…I loved my Easy Tone shoes at first and wore them allll the time. But after awhile, when I tried to run on the treadmill, I’d notice that my left hip had started to hurt…I’m only 31 – so that was kinda odd…and then it got increasingly worse and worse and worse to the point that it was severe pain that would last for days if I tried to use the treadmill for running (or even walking at this point) so I always had to use the elliptical (which would still somehow cause minor hip pain). Anyway, I finally wised up (duh) and experimented by going back to my old regular workout shoes for about a month and the hip pain gradually lessened and now is completely gone. I think the shoes must have made one of my legs longer than the other or something and caused that awful pain?? Very strange but I can’t recommend the shoes now but of course, everyone will have different experience. Just definitely not worth it to me!

Chic Runner did a nice little review of some toning shoes: http://chicrunner.com/toning-shoes-review/

My mom has a pair of them – she definitely feels that they work different muscles…but a noticeable difference? no.

Okay, those FitFlops are pretty cute, but most of the toning shoes look like space alien footwear to me! 😉

I have Fit Flops and I love them for recovery after long runs because they’re super cushy!
