9/9: Weekly Meal and Fitness plan

Most nights of the week, especially if the Pilot is home, I look forward to making dinner. It’s a nice way to unwind from the day, and I’m usually excited to try out a new recipe. After a full day of work yesterday, and a fun afternoon with friends over watching the football game, I just wasn’t feelin’ it.

“You want Mexican?”

“Is the Pope Catholic?”

Sometimes it’s nice to have someone else do the cooking… and the salsa made at the table to your spiciness preference, while the mariachis sing away.

“Hey girl, want a chip?” haha

Me and liv3

I’m really excited about this week’s meal ideas, because I ended up eating a ton of sugar last week. After days past of dieting roller coasters (and a metabolism that finally recovered, thank goodness), it’s not a big deal when days/weeks don’t go as planned. I know that in the grand scheme of things, I eat the foods that make me feel good, whether it’s a salad or a brownie at that time.

I’ll have a few days each week when I eat extra treats, but it ‘s been a little excessive lately. I’ve been a little more tired, and a lot more stressed out than usual. Sometimes I’ll write about stuff like that, but this is a positive space and good distraction for me when things are going on. For energy or comfort, I sometimes jump on the sugar bus. The funny this is that it sometimes makes me feel even less energized than I did before. There’s a nice high, but then there’s an awful crash.

I’m a big believer in moderation, but too much of anything isn’t a good thing and my body’s saying “uncle.” We’re off to brunch at my nana’s, so I know I’ll have dessert there, but am ready to dial back the sugar and up the veggies this week.

Here are some of the recipes we’ll be trying out:

-BBQ pulled chicken with spinach and homemade baked beans

-Warm fall salads

-Sweet potato and black bean bake

-Miso salmon with stir-fried veggies and quinoa

Prep:

-Buy groceries for the week

Steam eggs, make amazeballs, banana-almond muffins, chop veggies

-Make baby food

The tentative fitness plan:

Sun: OFF

Mon: Runday (practice 10k- it’s gotta happen)

Tues: 1st Crossfit?! <– just typing it made me nervous

Wed: Teach Zumba

Thurs: OFF

Fri: Weights

Sat: Teach World Beat and Zumba

How are you prepping for success this week? Anyone want to join me for some extra clean eats?

See ya later on the Family page!

xoxo

Gina

Hi Gina! Just wanted to say that I love your page and your posts about your Pilot! Though I found your page through other healthy living blogs, I have to say, your stories about cooking for your military man are my favorite! My fiancee is a former Marine; I used to schedule my most exciting meals around his homecomings, too! Just wanted to wish you guys much luck!

Hey Gina! I’m a big fan of yours, but have never commented. Don’t be afraid of Crossfit. It’s just applying all the knowledge you already have to lifting heavier things, jumping, and running. It’s definitely not Zumba. But it is fun and challenging. Also, keep in mind that styles vary from gym to gym, just like any other form of fitness. So, try not to judge the entire sport if you’re not crazy about your specific gym or coach. And, most importantly, HAVE FUN!!

I love baked beans but need to find a recipe healthier than the traditional brown sugar and bacon; I would be interested in seeing yours! I vaguely recall you posting it before but I’m not sure and I can’t find it 🙁 As for crossfit, have fun!! I started crossfit 6 weeks ago and I LOVE it. I was not in great shape before I started and have never really done any strength training, so I was really intimidated/nervous before I went, but I went with a friend and it ended up being fine. Crossfit has been awesome at making me do things that are good for me in a fun and safe environment.

“Is the Pope Catholic?” Ha! Made me laugh out loud. It’s great that your blog is such a positive place and you don’t dwell on the “less than perfect” weeks of eating, but it’s also nice to hear that you sometimes struggle with sugar cravings too! I can easily overdo it with sweets as well, and it’s a similar story. Nice little high, but I end up feeling worse after. Much better to focus on satisfying healthy meals!

I hear you on the need for cleaner food! I also tend to want more sugar when I’m stressed and in the long run it really doesn’t help. Hard to avoid.

I’m doing a clean eating week too! My husband and I went out for Mexican saturday night and after too much margaritas and chips, I told him Sunday morning that I was going to eating very clean and focused this week 🙂 Love that picture of you and Liv, so cute!

I so wish we had a Zumba class here! There was one for a bit and it didn’t gain enough clients and was canceled. Bummer.

    Excited about the clean eats!

After this weekend, I need a week of clean eats! I’ll be joining you for sure.

I also want to see if I can get some walking into my routine. I’ve been wanting to do this since I came back from Europe last week and did TONS of walking. I’m hoping to get about 3 miles in after dinner.

Totally with you on the sugar overload! I had a super stressful week so I totally overdid it. Can’t wait to get back to some greens 🙂 Have a great week!

Thanks for putting your weekly plan on line. I do a similar thing, not really for others, but if I post it, it will force me to plan.

Keep up the great work and I like the new web design.

    best,
    Amber Genise
