A Grill Experiment

Heyyyyy 😀 How are you? Hope you’re having a fabulous night <3

Guess what?! My belly has officially popped!

belly

JK. LOL.

Just a little fun with some summer watermelon 😉

melon

We cut it up to take to the madre’s, along with a glorious grill feast.

melon (2)

My contributions were:

Massage kale salad (wilted kale, lemon juice, olive oil, Nama Shoyu, sea salt, garlic, pepper, organic tomatoes and sunflower seeds)

salad

Black bean burgers (<— Emily’s recipe- it’s perfection)

burgers

Mixed berry crumble

crumble

and 2 bags of Alexia sweet potato fries 🙂

We also brought meat with us, along with buns and toppings. The Pilot got to work grilling his famous burgers, chicken and hot dogs.

pilot

A feast among feasts:

table

+ chips, dip, salsa, guacamole

dips

organic berries, pineapple, frozen grapes

Watermelon eegee’s (that nana brought!)

and a giant plate of cookies that the madre made.

Um, yeah 🙂

My plate:

plate

+ some crumble (everyone else enjoyed it with vanilla ice cream on top)
Also, someone created this little thing:

turtle

A burger topped with cheese, wrapped in bacon with hotdog legs, head and tail… and it looks like a turtle. So gross, and pretty hilare. The Pilot said it was delicious.

Have a lovely night and I’ll see ya in the morning!
xoxo

Gina

Stay tuned for an elliptical + playlist workout sesh! I did it this morning and it was such a blasty and an awesome calorie burner.

Hahahaha adorable! I’m glad you didn’t pop a watermelon. That would have been bad. GUACCC I made my avocado tapenade recipe tonight and it was gone in half an hour. I quadrupled the recipe. Clearly my family likes to eat.

  2. The Healthy Engineer on July 3, 2011 at 11:38 pm

That watermelon is like a grown toddler!!

    I love your hair 😀

  3. Lindsay@LivingLindsay on July 3, 2011 at 11:44 pm

Now I’m hungry! 🙂 But not so much for the turtle burger – yeah, I think I would have to pass on that one. 🙂

  4. Sam on July 3, 2011 at 11:44 pm

That was a huge melon! I wish I got to eat part of this feast…delicious. Maybe not the meat turtle though 😉

  5. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on July 3, 2011 at 11:45 pm

That watermelon looked sooooo good! I hope you don’t end up getting that big. It would be very uncomfortable! And yeah, so gross, that meat animal grill creation. But funny. Your black bean burgers looked MUCH nicer.

  6. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on July 3, 2011 at 11:46 pm

That is a big honkin watermelon and I could probably do some damage on it all by myself…I love watermelon!

Massaged kale salad, the bean burgers (thanks for the tip about Emily’s recipe), and your crumble…oh it all looks awesome. And the guac too! Great feasting going on.

And great pics of you. I love your expression in the 1st pic. 🙂

  7. Sam @ Mom At The Barre on July 3, 2011 at 11:49 pm

The massaged kale salad looks delicious! Must try to make it.

  8. Heather (heathers dish) on July 4, 2011 at 12:03 am

Grilling perfection! I want your plate. Like STAT 🙂

  9. Stephanie on July 4, 2011 at 12:10 am

Mahaha I did the same thing today. I carried the watermelon from the car to the house under my shirt. My neighbour did a double take when he saw me. Ha!

  10. Carolyn (Life in the postcard) on July 4, 2011 at 12:13 am

Thanks for the tip regarding the black bean burger. I have been craving a good veggie burger. I’d be in veg heaven with all the healthy/glorious foods at the bbq. I think I just drooled a little…

  11. Lindsay Loves Veggies on July 4, 2011 at 12:18 am

Wow! Awesome feast! That turtle burger looks like a solid heart attack though! Danggggg!

  12. Katherine on July 4, 2011 at 12:22 am

Oh my! That pic of you with the watermelon is exactly how I feel right now at 37 weeks! You’ll be there before you know it! Ha!

  13. Sara K on July 4, 2011 at 12:38 am

Wow that turtle looks scarily legit (but I agree with you sounds gross). Watermelon sounds perfect though for this insane summer heat

  14. Anna Crouch on July 4, 2011 at 1:02 am

LOL That burger, bacon, hot dog combo reminds me of the bacon and cheese sandwich at KFC with fried chicken as the bread….or as I like to call it, the “heart attack waiting to happen sandwich”. My husband got one once, just to spite me, and said he felt sick after eating it. hahaha Serves him right, I suppose. 🙂

  15. Alicia on July 4, 2011 at 2:01 am

Ooohhh, yes! I have an elliptical and with heat and all three of my boys home with summer its hard to get outside and excercise. I need that! You look so cute in your tank; very flattering.

  16. Yolie @ Practising Wellness on July 4, 2011 at 3:18 am

  18. Crystal on July 4, 2011 at 7:49 am

Lol that turtle-looking burger looks like it belongs on thisiswhyyourefat.com. The watermelon baby was hilarious!

  19. Morgan @ Operation Hot Mama on July 4, 2011 at 7:49 am

This is not going to sound good but large watermelons make me nervous… it just seems like a pain the tush to cut and prepare. Maybe that is the lazy side of me. Perhaps starting with a half melon would better suit my insecurites. Lol… same thing with pineapple. Those little suckers are evil!

Have a great holiday to you and your family!!

  20. Hillary on July 4, 2011 at 8:05 am

That crumble looks like what summer dreams are made of ; )

  21. Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews on July 4, 2011 at 8:25 am

Oh man! Your feast looks amazing. I just bought kale for the first time and am going to try your kale salad.

  22. Holly @ The Runny Egg on July 4, 2011 at 8:34 am

Ok that meat turtle t hing looks pretty nasty, but I’m glad the Pilot liked it!

  23. kaila @ healthy helper! on July 4, 2011 at 9:06 am

Looks like an amazing feast! I loooove grilled black bean burgers and sweet tater fries….nothing better!

  24. Conni on July 4, 2011 at 9:06 am

Hey Gina. Quick question. Every time I try and make a massaged kale salad, it comes out WAY too salty despite the massive number of recipes I’ve tried. Any suggestions??

  25. Cait's Plate on July 4, 2011 at 9:10 am

Ahahaha – that burger turtle IS hilarious. I don’t know if I could’ve watched it get eaten – it’s so cute 🙂 Looks like a fun time – glad you enjoyed yourself!

  26. Chelsa on July 4, 2011 at 9:10 am

Everything looks delicious besides the turtle thing…

  27. Annie@stronghealthyfit on July 4, 2011 at 9:13 am

So funny. Looks like a great feast!

  28. Katie on July 4, 2011 at 9:52 am

That turtle actually looks really yummy. 🙂 It reminds me of something from Epic Meal Time! Have you seen those guys? They make these enormous meals and the main ingredient is always bacon. It’s pretty funny. That watermelon looks delish, too. Hope you are having a wonderful holiday weekend. 🙂

  29. Erica on July 4, 2011 at 10:00 am

The little “creation” looks like something my hubs would make, also, and would DEFINITELY say it was delicious! I look at that and see ‘HEART ATTACK’! lol Clearly, we have a may-jah difference in eating styles here in our house;-) Our feast looked pretty much the same as yours, a little somethin-somethin for everyone!

  30. Carrie@shrinkingcarrie on July 4, 2011 at 10:27 am

Wow! That burger looks like a heart attack on a plate (but Funny)! Looks like delicious cook out. I’ve got to try those black bean burgers!

    • Fitnessista on July 4, 2011 at 1:15 pm

  36. Julie (A Case of the Runs) on July 4, 2011 at 4:13 pm

  37. shannonmarie (rawdorable) on July 4, 2011 at 4:48 pm

Ha ha. You crack me up. You’ll probably won’t even get that big in the end of your pregnancy. You look amazing.

BTW, my nearly 2-year-old daughter wants your watermelon. She can’t get enough of it lately. She’s begging me for some as I type this.

  38. Lisa on July 4, 2011 at 5:07 pm

You will feel like you have a watermelon at full term! Love how the turtles turned out, so funny.

  39. Krystina (Organically Me) on July 4, 2011 at 5:46 pm
