A new racing buddy

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for the sweet comments on the Summer Shape Up re-cap – congats again to the winners and participants! *****I’ve gotten a few comments/emails asking if I would put all of the workouts into one post so they’re easier to find—I’ll be working on that for ya this week 😀

Since I didn’t post last night, here’s a re-cap of some of the eats:

Pluot:

001

Little Ezekiel tort with some organic butter:

002

Nanner w/ AB:

003

Chocolate chia pudding with hemp milk, chia seeds, raw cocoa powder (from One Lucky Duck), Stevia, vanilla extract, sea salt, cinnamon, almond butter and nanner:

004

I munched it while we watched Defiance… quite a disturbing movie. Very sad and traumatic yet uplifting at the end :/

Close up:

005

ROON!

006

(Are you sick of seeing these yet?? Haha)

I went with some friends to Longhorn, Marble Slab and the movies last night. At Longhorn, I got the usual shrimp and double veggies, a kid’s size double chocolate ice cream and we saw The Ugly Truth which was HIGHlarious. I guess it got bad reviews, but we all loved it. And Gerard Butler is super hot 😉

As far as the ice cream goes, even though I’m a huge chocolate fan, I wasn’t too crazy about it. Last time I got it, I really enjoyed it but this time I was just “meh”. Of course, I ate it because all of the other girls were eating ice cream, but I didn’t really want it. Does that ever happen to you guys?

This morning I had a lovely sludge before walking the puppers:

007

Mango, banana, two scoops Vega smoothie infusion, hemp milk, sea salt, vanilla, cinnamon and Stevia.

And a little kiwi:

009

I walked the puppers for about a half hour, leaving them tuckered out and well-behaved.

They alternated sleeping in one of the dog beds:

008

Which is way to small for Viesa, but she is not aware of her size:

010

(For those of you that have asked, Viesa is a Shiba Inu. She’s a Japanese dog and is very independent, intelligent and knows she is the supermodel of the family)

I also worked on a playlist for my spin classes:

image

I’m about to get ready to train a client, weigh and pinch my Shape Up group with the calipers, teach spin, teach Zumba, back to the other gym to train one more client and then having a cookie-making party with Megan 😀

Hope you’re all having a wonderful day! I’ll see ya tonight with a delicious lunch, slow cooker recipe and some thoughts on food combining.

xoxo,

G

Exciting news! The pilot agreed to run a 5k with me at the end of August! I don’t know if I’ve told you this before, but back in the day the pilot was a hardcore runner. He’s ran a few full marathons (one with no training at all and the other with a 40lb bag of sand on his back.. I told ya he was crazy!) but he doesn’t do much cardio anymore. I’ve been begging him to do a little cardio for his heart (since he has a freakish metabolism and doesn’t need it to maintain his weight) but he much prefers to pump iron. I’m way stoked that he’s going to do a race with me!

Do you work out with your sig. other or are your workout routines totally different/separate? The pilot and I will do abs together, but other than that we’re usually on our own

Don't ever get tired of the macaroons…I just need to try one so I can appreciate their deliciousness 🙂 Love the new haircut….looks sassy and shiny…very healthy! I love how a great haircut can change your mood. Hubs works out with me a lot. Before we got hitched in Mexico he was doing spin class 2-3x week, but now not so much 🙁 He's a weight dude too…with an equally enviable metabolism, but I've been after him to get his heart in shape as well…not for the weight loss, but for the cardio benefits 🙂 He's doing boot camp with me every thursday and I'm making him hike and walk with me all summer! I'm such a slave driver 🙂

Love the pupper pics (as always) – and the image of your playlist? Nice! Yay for your new running buddy! 🙂 Me and my husband don't work out together – we're doing good to be in the same gym at the same time! I think it would be fun though!!

  3. Amanda on July 27, 2009 at 2:24 pm

    Adooorable pups!

My boyfriend was never really into running, but after watching me train for and run a half-marathon, he agreed to join me in a 10 mile race this past May. We trained and ran together, and it was so much fun! Even if he doesn't stick with it, at least he understands what I am going through now!

  4. buffmuffy on July 27, 2009 at 2:36 pm

that is so awesome! my boyfriend and i walk together and he says he wants to run with me but i think he is too shy to do so … lol.
i dont get tired of seeing your 'roons, i just wish i could try one! lol!

That's awesome! Have fun running together!

My fiance and I ran a marathon together last year. It was so much fun! I really miss running with him and having 1-3 hours together with no distractions, but he is DONE with running! Haha

Maybe you can talk him into more after the 5k!

  6. tonjatoi@hotmail.com on July 27, 2009 at 3:07 pm

I beg my man to come to spin or run a 5K w/ me. He wont even consider it. Honestly I tell him and I firmly believe he is afraid I will smoke him.

  7. EatRunLitigate on July 27, 2009 at 3:14 pm

My boyfriend and I go to the gym together 3-4 times a week. If I have running to do that day we usually run side by side for the first little while, but then he goes and lift and I do other things (including lifting, just not with him).

I've been trying to get him to run a race with me FOREVER but I think it's hopeless.

  8. Danielle C. on July 27, 2009 at 3:17 pm

I love your dogs, so cute!

I wish my husband would workout with me, he asked for a gym membership a few months back which he has probably used FIVE times (yes, this is the subject of a few disagreements). I try to cut him slack because he's working two jobs right now (one is pretty physical). Hopefully some day.

  9. Ada on July 27, 2009 at 3:18 pm

Yum, that chocolate chia pudding looks super delish! I cannot believe the Pilot ran a marathon with a 40lb sand bag on his back! How on earth did he manage to do that????

  10. Lindsey on July 27, 2009 at 3:19 pm

Can't wait for the slow cooker recipe!=) And I just love your blog!!!
My hubs and I run together Sat and Sun mornings, but during the week he usually lifts and I do videos. But we walk after dinner together too which I enjoy.

  11. Erica on July 27, 2009 at 3:23 pm

I agree with everyone else- I'm not sure I'll ever get tried of seeing your macaroons mmmm. Bummer about the ice cream. I'm not a huge chocolate ice cream fan. I prefer vanilla or fruity flavors. Hope training/classes go well!

  12. SLJ on July 27, 2009 at 3:25 pm

Love your blog! I've been lurking around for a while but think this is the first time I'm commenting… I am not getting tired of the macaroons, every time I see them I just think I NEED to make them! The only time my hubby and I work out together is when we are playing flag-football together or golf (if you call that exercise). Other than that he wants no part of working out 🙁

  13. roseyrebecca on July 27, 2009 at 3:35 pm

Your eats look great!! Working out so much has motivated my boyfriend to work out with me!! It's so much more fun to workout together!!

  14. Amy on July 27, 2009 at 3:54 pm

My hubby and I leave the house together on our runs… but thats about it! He's 6'4 and has a much longer stride than I do.

He runs a couple blocks ahead of me, while I stare at his bum! lol

  15. Low on July 27, 2009 at 4:14 pm

Does your Sheba get along well with your other dog? My brother has had two but they were both extremely aggressive with other dogs. I thought it was largely due to their breed, but maybe we just didn't train them right? She is so beautiful! I think they are such a unique looking doggie!

  16. Katie on July 27, 2009 at 4:24 pm

    Hi,
I'm new to your blog and am enjoying it! I was wondering if you've ever done a post where you list your "must haves" for your grocery list. I'm guessing almond butter is at the top 🙂 but what else do you stock up on every week or two?
    Thanks,
    Katie

  17. redhead75 on July 27, 2009 at 4:33 pm

Both of your dogs are super models 🙂

Hubs and I workout seperate. He is a runner and i'm a mule. I like to lift heavy weights too and he's not that into weights.

  18. Katie on July 27, 2009 at 4:33 pm

Yay, I'm so excited that you're going to discuss food combining! I've been trying to practice it for about a week now and really paying attention to how my stomach feels during the process.

  19. Julia on July 27, 2009 at 5:26 pm

awwww yay for Pilot racing with you! I cannot imagine 26.2 miles with 40 lbs of weight. WOah.
My BF and I usually go to the gym together, but do separate things. But now, I got him to start training for both a half and a full marathon with me, so I am stoked! It's nice to have a running/racing buddy/eye candy!

  20. cassi rash on July 27, 2009 at 5:30 pm

thanks for the playlist. i love adding new songs.

  21. Jennifer @ His N' Her Health on July 27, 2009 at 5:32 pm

A race with the pilot, How fun! the boy and I go to the gym together but we do our own thing. usually we have opposite cardio days too.

  22. K from ksgoodeats on July 27, 2009 at 6:17 pm

I will never get tired of seeing those macaroonies! They look delicious!

Oh Gerard, he is gorgeous! I feel ya on the ice cream situation – I don't really like that much sugar to begin with so I hate having the explain myself when I pass on desserts.

YAY for a Pilot/G$ race!! You guys will kill it!

  23. ChickPea on July 27, 2009 at 6:51 pm

Haha, my dogs are just like Viesa–completely unaware of their actual size. My Lab likes to think that he is a lap dog!

  24. shelby on July 27, 2009 at 7:14 pm

I want to see that movie so badly! It looks really funny, I'm glad you liked it =)

  25. vegetarianontherun on July 27, 2009 at 7:42 pm

Haha I didn't even see your first dog on the bed! It's like Where's Waldo. Also, tortillas with butter was a college fave of mine…two years later it is still 'too soon' to go there again!

  26. She-Fit on July 27, 2009 at 8:11 pm

This is probably a really stupid question that I should know but what is "AB" that is on your banana? It looks like its peanut butter.

  27. Gena (Choosing Raw) on July 27, 2009 at 8:32 pm

sigh, how I wish I could be at that party!

  28. carolinebee on July 27, 2009 at 8:35 pm

fun night!! I don't have a sig other, but when i dooo i hope he is health conscious and fit- i don't need a work out partner but it's good to have the same interests and priorities 😀

  29. Lauren on July 27, 2009 at 8:42 pm

I thought The Ugly Truth was so hilarious as well. I love Katherine Heigle and I agree, Gereald Butler is a stud!

So glad to hear you had a great weekend hun!

  30. MandyKat on July 27, 2009 at 8:45 pm

My husband & I used to run together. I loved it! Now he's very serious about his training, so we can't run together.
We have a training room at home with our own bike trainers. Sometimes we will use them together.
We always swim together on Sunday mornings, though, and sometimes we do the same triathlons. He helps me with my warm-ups but otherwise we race separately.
We also enjoy yoga classes together, or we do yoga DVDs at home. I bought him a mat and bought Rodney Yee DVDs so he can see a man doing yoga.
He is the opposite of your husband. He will NOT do weights because he likes to keep a low body weight! (Strange for a guy)
Your questions are fun! I like reading the responses.
PS I agree with you about the ice cream. If I don't want it, I just say I don't like it, and I drink water.

  31. Fitnessista on July 27, 2009 at 9:13 pm

low- yes, viesa doesn't like many other dogs. she gets along well with bella now, but it took a lot of training and a few times when she tried to eat her.. it's definitely a sign of the breed. we worked really hard training her (and enrolled her in classes) but she still doesn't get along with everyone.

  32. Anna on July 27, 2009 at 10:10 pm

Your dogs are such cuties- and no, how could we get sick of macaroons?! Although they do make me a wee bit jealous, because I've never tried one of yours!

  33. AnaVera on July 28, 2009 at 1:41 am

My boyfriend always says he's going to work out with me, and then never does, but it's always the standing promise! It's really quite frustrating because I'm dumb enough to let it affect me so much. Hmmmmm… he promised tomorrow morning, so we'll see. I'd love it if he did, though.

  34. Girl on Raw on July 28, 2009 at 5:50 am

I wish we could work out. My schedule is a little crazy being a Flight Attendant so I work out usually when he is at work. Also living in a Muslim country the gyms are separated for men and women….the only time we can work out together is if he comes with me of an evening to walk/jog with the puppy but even then he is either getting back from kitesurfing or it's too damn hot! Sheesh 🙂

  35. britt on July 28, 2009 at 9:22 am

the pudding and macaroons look amazing. i NEED a dehydrator and some chia seeds! now if i could only convince my husband of that 🙂

the hubby and i try to workout together on the weekends but sometimes life just gets too hectic. we either do circuit training at the gym or krav maga at home. i'm not really into the krav maga but i know it makes him happy to teach me and it's a great workout!

  36. TavoLini on July 28, 2009 at 11:14 am

This is interesting to read about husbands and wives working out together–we don't at all! We usually run one 10K together every year and that's about it. He's way faster than me, but hates running 😉

  37. Emily on July 28, 2009 at 12:30 pm

That's so cool about your upcoming race with the Pilot. Brian and I do workout and run together – especially since he broke his leg last summer and I can keep up with him still (for the time being, hehe). I love being able to have a reliable workout buddy. 🙂

  38. ShoeZQ on July 28, 2009 at 4:36 pm

I thought Viesa was a Shiba! My hubs and I got a shiba pup when I first moved to Omaha to be with him. He's an Airforce vet. 10 years and then got out. Love your blog.

  39. Angie (Losing It and Loving It) on July 28, 2009 at 9:12 pm

Gosh those macaroons make my mouth water. I wish I knew how to make them!

Oh and yes Kevin (hubby) and I workout together when we go to the gym. We do spin classes on the weekend and cardio during the week. I do in-home workouts by myself though.
