A time for country

Morning! How’s your Sunday going? Hope it’s been lovely and relaxing 🙂

We woke up bright and early to head to the farmer’s market to pick up some cupcakes I had ordered.

I packed up some iced coffee with almond milk to-go:

coffee

and we left for the market.

Of course, we brought this little nugget along for the adventure.

me and bell

Since we got there ballz early, I thought it would be fun to see everyone setting up for the day. Little did I know, we were way late for the party- farmer’s market was BUMPIN.

market

We grabbed said cupcakes, along with some farm fresh eggs, which were the star of today’s bfast.

eggs

While I cooked we played country music, loudly, via CMT.

I’m not even that big of a country fan, but I believe there are times in life that call for country music:

1) When it’s summer and

2) making Sunday morning breakfast.

It was actually one of our rituals in North Carolina: pancake Sunday, country music and breakfast on the porch. <3

Eggs and potatoes for the Pilot, with salsa on top:

bfast

I was glad I took a photo of his bfast, because mine was a little less pretty.

bfast (2)

Teff tortilla and vomit eggs (1 whole, 2 whites) cooked with salsa. Lots of salsa… and I put more on top. Haha.

We also shared one of these:

cupcake

Best gluten-free cupcake I’ve EVER had. We have two dozen more to share with the fam, and tomorrow I’ll post what the inside looks like 😉

Lots of errands and cleaning today!

See ya later this afternoon <3

xoxo

Today’s tip: Do you have resistance bands to use at home? Not only are they perfect for travel –super lightweight- but you can also add some variety at home with them by using one of these door frame attachments. You put it in between the door frame and loop the resistance band through the attachment– a lot more bang for your resistance band buck 🙂 They’re a very inexpensive at-home workout option.

My husband and I have started a Sunday morning tradition since moving to California – we blast KFOG (our favorite local radio station) and cook breakfast together, then eat on our balcony!

Hope you have a great day! 🙂

i went to the farmers market near my home yesterday morning! we headed out “early” too, and it was definitely not as busy as when we go later, it was still pretty busy! farmers’ market shopping is no joke. 🙂

wishing I could bite right into it through the screen so I can see if the inside is pink or blue!!!!!

I definitely love resistance bands but DEFINITELY make sure you attach them to something that will not give. I had to fix a frontal sinus fracture on a (v. big/buff) guy who had looped it around a bedpost and the decorative wooden globe on top broke off and whipped into his head. And considering that it supposedly takes 1200 lb/in2 to fracture the frontal sinus, I think it must have really hurt.

    • Fitnessista on July 17, 2011 at 1:20 pm

WHOA. i think that’s why they specify door frame and not bedpost… poor guy

  6. Destini on July 17, 2011 at 1:20 pm

Oh I want cupcakes now! SOOO yummy

  7. Kelly on July 17, 2011 at 1:20 pm

I love resistance bands. After an injury, they really helped me gain my strength back. I still use them all the time. The under-the-door attachment thing-y is the bomb. I have muscles in my arms now I never knew existed before!

I love weekend rituals. My boyfriend makes his famous coconut-almond granola and it makes the whole apartment smell amazing!

  15. kate on July 17, 2011 at 2:43 pm

ahhh that cupcake looks to die for amazing!!

  19. Marci on July 17, 2011 at 3:15 pm

So excited that I can hardly stand it! I may need to hit the mall so I can distract myself. Btw, been doing your ab blaster every other day and I think I might die. (I am such a drama queen lately.) Apparently I have been slacking. Have a blast tonight!

    • Fitnessista on July 17, 2011 at 4:09 pm

I love that there are some many creative ways to announce if you’re having a boy or girl now a days! ANd I wish I had the skill or correct icing bag/tip to make the icing on my cupcakes look that good…

Can’t wait to find out tomorrow!! 😀

That cupcake definitely makes up for the looks of your eggs. 😉

I live in North Carolina! Where in NC did you live ? We go to the farmer’s market here almost twice a week. It’s not as pretty as the one in your pictures (with the tents, samples of food, etc) but its local farmers with dirt cheap fresh produce! Love it and hardly ever go to the grocery anymore!

    • Fitnessista on July 17, 2011 at 4:22 pm

that’s awesome! we were in fayetteville for a little while. LOVED trips to wilmington, raleigh and myrtle beach 🙂

  23. Kathy on July 17, 2011 at 4:14 pm

Exciting Gina!! How about a post on new moves with the resistance bands (A Focus On?). I only know very basic stuff and would like to learn how to use them more effectively and also to change things up a bit…

    • Fitnessista on July 17, 2011 at 4:23 pm

that’s a great idea. i learned a ton of new moves from working at the resort- maybe i can do a video post in the next couple of weeks

What I want to know is…are there any names being considered for the gluten-free bun in the oven? 🙂

    • Fitnessista on July 17, 2011 at 4:25 pm

yep we have a list of faves! 🙂

  25. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on July 17, 2011 at 4:34 pm

Wow…that cupcake looks divine! And regardless of how gross you say it looks, I still think your breakfast was delicious! 🙂 xyx

  27. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on July 17, 2011 at 4:48 pm

Best GF cupcake EVER??! That’s high praise as I know you’ve sampled lots and made lots in your day…can’t wait to see the inside and the recipe. It looks divine!

“It was actually one of our rituals in North Carolina: pancake Sunday, country music and breakfast on the porch.”
When we lived in NC & SC, I used to be able to get into the country music they’d play in the bars. If I heard it here in San Diego, not sure if I’d be quite as all over it 🙂

  28. Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance on July 17, 2011 at 4:55 pm

Looking at your eggs & salsa makes me so sad! I can’t eat eggs anymore due to a recent allergy discovery– and they used to be my staple breakfast! 🙁

However, I’m glad someone can enjoy them

  29. Laura @ prettylittlewords on July 17, 2011 at 4:59 pm

I cannot WAIT to see the cupcake reveal!!! I will be obsessively checking the blog tomorrow, so be prepared for a lot of page views!!! 😉

  30. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on July 17, 2011 at 5:09 pm

Those eggs don’t look like vomit!! Just like eggs and salsa. Those cup cakes are SOO cute!! I love resistance bands, you can make them easier or harder without having to get new weights! Awesome.

  31. Jen @familyfoodfitnessandfun on July 17, 2011 at 6:02 pm

  32. Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) on July 17, 2011 at 6:33 pm

That a great tradition! The boyfriend and i have a tradition of getting Thai food and watching a dvd of our favorite show on the last day of our visits (we’re still rocking the long distance thing). It’s sort of comforting and we both look forward to it, even though it symbolizes the end of our trip together.

Hi! I am still pretty new to your blog so this might be repetitive. I love using resistance bands with my clients and give them great hotel workouts with them while traveling. So this leads me to my #1 fav exercise equipment… The TRX (www.trxtraining.com). So amazing and challenging yet lightweight and portable… genius!

  36. Maddy on July 17, 2011 at 9:11 pm

Revealing the gender via cupcake is such a cute idea! I bet you are going to have a bunch of people tearing into those cupcakes and not just because they are yummy!

  37. Brenda @Baby on the Way on July 17, 2011 at 9:26 pm

Sunday mornings are the best! We listen to country music during the long car ride to my dad’s property in the country. Real original, right?

  38. Shaina on July 17, 2011 at 11:30 pm

We do “brunch with Bob” on Sundays! Blasting some Bob Marley is so perfect for hot summer days while cooking. Makes you feel like you’re on vacay in the Caribbean 😉

    • Fitnessista on July 18, 2011 at 12:56 am

LOVE bob marley.. especially out by the pool!

  39. Sara on July 18, 2011 at 5:00 am

I have a resistance band for traveling – Reebok do a variety of lengths, which is important for a short ass like me. I did have one snap on me and whack me across the face. This resulted in a week of looking like my boyfriend had punched me in the eye! From this I gather that you should replace them, say, once every two years.
