Acu love, lavender latte, and PiYo lower

Acupuncture this morning was DREAMY. To my local friends: this was an awesome spot. Brent was kind, knowledgable, didn’t hurt me with the needles (this needle-phobe is so thankful) and very affordable. He specializes in pregnant women, and said most of his clients are expecting. His wife is a midwife, so he’s really tuned into this kinda thing. (Also, he doesn’t know I have a blog or am giving him a shout out or anything like that.) He’s the third acupuncturist to tell me to “go eat a steak.” So there’s that. I asked him if he would help out with my allergies -I’m still sneezing no less than 100 times a day, and the poor baby moves around after my violent sneeze like “WTF mom?”- and the baby’s VSD. Anything that’s in my hands, I’m trying to do while remaining as calm and hopeful as I can. During my daily meditation, I envision the tiny hole in her heart closing. 

After acupuncture, I floated on my Zen cloud to Newbreak for a lavender tea almond milk latte and some writing. I’m cranking away on Post Baby Bod and can’t wait to share it with you this fall! (Be sure to get on the newsletter here if you want first dibs!)

Liv and I went to Sprout’s for a couple of groceries, and then home for soccer in the backyard, and Play Doh and popsicles on the patio.

Summer, I love you.

Lunch was one of those quick and simple creations, and a flashback to my college days. When I lived at my dad’s house, I made a quesadilla for lunch EVERY day.

This one had manchego, leftover chicken, guacamole and sriracha. 

Quesadilla  1 of 1 I taught a barre class tonight, and then came home for dinner and PiYo Lower Body. It was such a lovely mix of stretching and strengthening. Chalene is magical, so I’m always looking for techniques she uses to keep her energy strong without being annoying. (<— Always one of my goals as an instructor. I personally don’t like it when I take a class and the instructor’s personality or energy feels artificial.) While I loved the workout, it felt SHORT to me -it was only 20ish minutes- so I’m excited to see how the program progresses.

    Some of the Piyo workouts are definitely short, and I usually supplement and do something else on those days. I can’t wait for your post baby bod series!

      that’s perfect! i love that they’re short enough that you don’t feel like you need a huge time commitment. you just roll out the mat and go

    I used acupuncture when I was pregnant too! I used it for nausea. I’m not sure if it helped or the nausea jut went away on its own but I did enjoy lying there.

    I really enjoy the PiYo DVDs but they are all pretty short. I often combine them if I want an entire workout.

    Love acupuncture! Would be super interested in hearing more about your experiences with it. I get acupuncture for anxiety and it’s really interesting how some of the points just feel SO GOOD. (My body actually sucks in a couple of the needles on my stomach because I’m in such a need for energy work there! My acupuncturist has to tape them down, haha.) I also find it so fascinating that acupuncture is rooted in cell biology. Science for the win!

    And so true about the instructor being authentic – that’s #1 🙂

    I love acupuncture! I always feel so loose and free after! I would love in on the PiYo FB challenge! I was the same way when I started, but it does get better!

      the iron. my last acupuncturist told me i had a blood deficiency too, meaning that my blood is lacking nutrients and beef would help. he said it’s why my hands are so vascular

    My naturopath started me on acupuncture to help heal my tibia fracture from the car accident. I’ve been trying to envision my bone healing. I have no idea if that really helps or not. It’s hard to focus though because she always places a needle above my thumb joint and it aches so bad! She said this represents pain in the body. I’m really curious if this will help me heal better.

    I just started PiYO on Monday and I agree the lower body workout did seem really short, I’m following the calendar that came with the DVDs but I think I might add some extras next time to that workout.

    I’ve been really interested to try acupuncture, but never really felt like I had severe enough issues to go through with it. Now I definitely feel inspired to try it! I love your reason for relaxing and picturing the baby’s hole closing in meditation. Such a beautiful image. Sending light and love and prayers your way

    Quesadillas are a fave in our house, we actually have that on the menu for dinner tonight! With shrimp, bell peppers, and topped with guacamole. Yummm

    Ah summer, I love you, too! Why does it go by so quickly?!

    Can you elaborate on the “eat a steak”? Do they think you need more meat? Red specifically? Just curious because I don’t eat meat but sometimes teeter on whether I should go back to meat eating…

    I love your meditation visual! I often do the same while meditating. I think it’s very powerful!

    I wasn’t aware that acupuncturist could spot iron deficiencies, interesting! Out of curiosity – do you know of/why the acupuncturist recommended steak over other types of meat? I know that you don’t any eat red meat so I’m curious why they thought you needed that specifically over other sources of iron like chicken, fish, eggs etc.

    I just started PiYo this month! I’ve been combining the upper and lower define days with cardio sense they’re so quick. Sweat, buns and strength intervals are more intense! How do you join the challenge group?

    I had a hole in my heart that was discovered during my mom’s third trimester, and the doctor told her that the chances didn’t look good (she chalks this up to terrible bedside manner). However, it quickly closed up within 24 hours of my birth, and I haven’t had the slightest issue with my heart thus far. Truly hoping everything works out the same for you, as I’m sure it will!!

    I just went to get acupuncture for the first time last week. I had no idea there was so much nutrition to it. I walked in hoping he could help me with my being always cold and left with a new lifestyle. I thought he would just put a needle somewhere and get some good blood flowing, but instead he wants to warm me up from the inside out – no cold drinks or cold food (even salad) which will be really hard, a little red wine at night, lots of cinnamon, turmeric, pepper, beef because those are warm inducing, etc. I don’t know – maybe I’ll keep wearing light sweaters ??

    Hi,

    I’m intrigued by acupuncture but am such a wimp about needles!
    It’s fascinating that he detected an iron deficiency without drawing blood!
    Dates & spinach helped me up my iron when I was low.

      in chinese medicine, they call it blood deficiency, which is different from iron deficiency but can have a lot of the same symptoms. i’ll definitely have a couple of dates today 🙂

    Have you looked into essential oils for your allergies? My friend is really big into them and I started looking and researching them more. I’m at the point where I’m getting super stuffy at night so I bought a diffuser/humidifier on Amazon along with some essential oil that helps clear up sinuses and stuffiness. I can’t wait to try it out! I’m also researching essential oils that help with L&D and post partum.

    Your acupuncture place is in my ‘hood. If you haven’t been yet, take Liv to the Princess Del Cerro Park after grabbing something from the deli at Windmill Farms, which are in the area, too.
