all the hummus

Hi guys! How was your weekend? Hope you’ve had a great one so far <3

Mine has involved lots of hummus. Always a good thing, right? 😉

First, we had an amazing night out at Meze, a Greek spot downtown. Lots of hummus was consumed, along with the most beautiful grilled salmon, fluffy rice and seasoned vegetables. We knew immediately that we have to take Liv with us next time; they have bellydancers! (Livi always says “I want to see the belly-dancing princess” haha)

Us after meze

This one took it over the top. Not only was she a gorgeous dancer, but also had this sheer cloak-thing with tiny sparkling lights.

Belly dancer

Oh, and she touched fire. Hashtag pure talent.

It was a great evening, and then I came home to relieve our wonderful babysitter while the Pilot met up with some friends for a guys’ night.

Saturday included Zumba,

Shoez

editing extravaganza,

My office

making cookies (used this vegan recipe)

Baking cookies 1 of 1Baking cookies 1 of 1

and a glorious dinner at True Food, which is probably in my top five restaurants ever.

True food

More hummus:

Dat hummus

plus the best kale salad, grilled chicken, sweet potato hash and Malbec.

Kale salad

My little heart, talking her phone.

Me and livi at true

We introduced her to the glory that is Menchie’s after dinner, and also taught her how to yell “MENCHIE’S!!! MEEEEENNNNNCCHHHHIIIIEEES” as we drive up. We get really excited about froyo.

Since I got my stitches out and can go in the ocean again, we’re hoping to try paddleboarding tonight. Dinner: jalapeño burgers on the grill, sweet potato fries, and celebrating National S’mores Day.

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

xoxo

THAT KALE SALAD LOOKS LOVELY!!! As does the sweet potato hash! But let’s face it….it’s pretty hard to mess up sweet potatoes! Love all the humus too! Is that a watermelon radish I spy for dipping???

  3. Chelsea Anthony on August 10, 2014 at 8:43 pm

My mom is coming to Tucson this week for my baby shower and we’re taking her to Cafe Poca Cosa. Can’t wait!!

True Food is definitely one of my favorites too! I just went there Friday night and had the bison burger, protein style. With half kale salad and half sweet potato hash on the side. The best! I used to be a hostess at the Santa Monica location where I live, but it’s wayyy more fun to be a diner than it is to be an employee. Haha! Jalapeño burgers sound amazing, by the way. Post the recipe!

Hummus is the best! I just got some of TJ’s jalapeno cilantro, it’s probably my favorite! A belly dancer with lights?! Fun 🙂

Happy Sunday! This week I’m teaching a few Les Mills classes, including BODYATTACK and BODYPUMP, I’m taking yoga, and I’m working out in the weight room at least three times. I usually have my workouts planned ahead for the week in my calendar.

As far as food prep, this week will include overnight oats for breakfast, hearty salads with grilled chicken for lunch and cottage cheese for snacks. Already portioned out in tupperwares.

I love Greek food as well. Have you heard of Taverna Opa? It’s a chain, but always a good time. Have a good one!

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2014 at 12:45 am

I LOPE OPA! they have one in orlando; such a fun place!!

  10. Ashley on August 10, 2014 at 9:53 pm

My #1 fave will always be Chuys – the one in Texas that’s been expanding East-ward. NOT to be confused with the “ick” biker-type restaurant of the same name in Arizona/California. Same name, same spelling but not at all related (I used to work at the Austin Chuys back in the day, so I know this to be fact). If anyone finds themselves in Austin/Dallas/Houston (and I believe they’ve expanded into Louisiana), you must order a Texas-tini (like a Mexican Martini) and ANYTHING smothered in the “boom boom” sauce (a spicy queso). Freaking MMMMMMMMM!!!!!!

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2014 at 12:44 am

hahah i read that and immediately thought of the tucson chuy’s! i like it but not in my top 5 😉 i’ll definitely have to try your fave chuy’s one of these days- that boom boom sauce sounds dreamy

  11. Laura @FitMamaLove on August 10, 2014 at 10:05 pm

We’ll definitely be enjoying more heirloom tomatoes topped with feta cheese, good olive oil, oregano and salt & pepper. We had so much of that this weekend and it is the most delicious combination. Other than that I have no idea what I’ll be eating. Not much of a meal planner here.

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2014 at 12:44 am

that sounds amazing! i may be copying you on that one 😉

  12. Jacquelyn on August 11, 2014 at 12:11 am

Gina, where did you get your black dress in the top pic with the pilot!?! I love it!!!! U look cute as always! Xoxo

Looks like such a lovely weekend you are having! My fave restaurants? That is actually a tough decision!

  15. Pua on August 11, 2014 at 2:49 am

I love the fact that you and your man find time for date nights. I wish we did that more, but we’re such homebodies that we always end up staying in. Such old bores! LOL I don’t do too much meal prep, but I’ve been into cooking more this summer. On the menu this week is turkey meatloaf muffins, oven-baked panko shrimp, and probably a chicken dish. Of course, banana bread and baked oatmeal will show up at some point! 🙂

  16. Lucie@FitSwissChick on August 11, 2014 at 3:03 am

OMG, while reading your posts I am getting more and more excited for my trip to San Diego next May! I need to try all these restaurants!!

  20. Katie on August 11, 2014 at 8:51 am

I love Meze! I ate there with co-workers on a work trip. We wandered around the area for an hour trying to find a place with a menu we liked that wasn’t $$$ and that didn’t have a super long wait time. Meze to the rescue! The house made hot sauce was AMAZING! They actually sell it buy the bottle, but I traveled with only a carry-on and it was to big to fit.

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2014 at 10:45 am

i didn’t know they had house-made hot sauce!! must go back

  21. Vicki L. on August 11, 2014 at 9:09 am

Just an fyi, but those sheer things that the bellydancer had are called Isis wings.

      • Vicki L. on August 11, 2014 at 9:55 pm

No prob! I only know since I did bellydance when I was in college, though I never used them myself).

I have to agree with you on True Food! I love it SO much and that salad is to die for (especially with the salmon).

I also love to see that you go out for fro-yo after your healthy dinner. I do this…probably way too often. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2014 at 12:26 pm

i like it even better with salmon too, but had salmon the night before so i was trying to switch it up!

  30. Tracy on August 11, 2014 at 1:35 pm

So hard to pick favorite restaurants!! I think my list is constantly changing. Cafe Gratitude opened here in Kansas City and I have yet to try it. I need to get there soon! I’ve heard great things.

    Have a great week 🙂

  31. Sue Faunt on August 11, 2014 at 2:40 pm

I seriously just drooled a little bit. I have to check out those restaurants…

  32. Rachelle on August 13, 2014 at 6:22 pm

    Hi Gina,

I’m in San Diego for work and am staying downtown and would love some restaurant recommendations! I tried Searsucker last night which was amazing and I highly recommend it if you haven’t been yet. I went to Pulpo for lunch today for fish tacos and they were amazing. Where could I find a good acai bowl in the area?

    Thanks so much!

    • Fitnessista on August 13, 2014 at 11:41 pm

i haven’t had acai downtown yet! if you make your way to ocean beach, check out tiki port (it’s only about 10 min from downtown). searsucker and meze are the only spots downtown i’ve tried so far! (and loved both)
      have fun in SD!
