And then it’s over

I did something yesterday that I’ve been freaked out about for quite a few months:

(still obsessed with the sweet potato brownies)

went to the dentist.

In the world of medical professionals, dentists freak me out the most, especially after having a really bad experience (being stabbed with the novocaine shot 8 times !!!!! for one filling in college) and another that was a creepy sales guy. A electric toothbrush (which I actually love) and telling me that something was horribly wrong every time I went, which ended in lots of money paid out of pocket. I LOVED my dentist in Valdosta, and when we moved to Tucson I got my teeth cleaned once, got pregnant and no one would take a new pregnant client.

I used the excuse that Liv was a newborn and things were too crazy to book an appointment, but then finally accepted the fact that Liv is almost 6 months old and I can go to the freaking dentist already. Nana came over to stay with her, I went, and it was joyously uneventful. No cavities, no pain, no selling me things or telling me I was dying, just X-rays, cleaning, meet the dentist, referral for Invisalign and that’s it! Apparently my overbite needs some reining in, but I can deal with that.

Lesson of the story: often the anticipation of something is way worse than the event itself. Just get it over with and be happy it’s done! I often say this in my fitness classes, too, especially buff booty. It’s temporary- before you know it you’ll be eating lunch and thinking about how great you feel, or in the car driving home

Since it was dinnertime when I got home, I made some dinner for nana and myself:

Goat cheese macaroni and cheese with roasted asparagus.

I put a plate in the microwave for the Pilot, who flew late again last night.

(I’ll post the recipe when I tweak it a little, but it was pretty good)

This morning is a work day, but Zumba is somewhere in there 🙂

The Tabata Thursday video will be up tonight for all of my early morning workout birds! Congratulations to everyone who is rocking out the Summer Shape Up– keep up the amazing work! (And keep the pics coming- I absolutely love them)

Shout outs to the girls who have already done Workout 3

Caitlin, Beth, Eucalya, Alexandra, Rachel C, Madison, Angela, AJ, Mallory, and Athena, who has been using the workouts for her group fitness class! Great job, friends <3

Hope you have a wonderful day!

xoxo

I think Ryan Gosling at the finish line is just about the only thing in the world that would motivate me to run a marathon! 😉

      I agree, Chelsea! 🙂

i seriously debated running the nike women’s marathon because firefighters in tuxedos give you a tiffany necklace at the end. basically all things that are good

It’s pretty fun, I have to say!

It’s amazing how certain words, thoughts, or phrases just “click” in your head as motivation. When you said “before you know it you’ll be in the car driving home” it was JUST the right thing I needed to read. I read a million inspirational quotes a day on Pinterest, but for some reason that one registered with something in me. You are so right, I should be focusing on the drive home from the gym…. the excitement of being DONE and I can go home now, AND the excitement that I actually did it!!! That drive home for me is the best part of it all.

Drooool….Ryan will get me motivated any day!

My Mom and I HATE going to the dentist as well. Something about metal tools clinking and clanking and scraping teeth. Gives us chills! Glad your visit went well.

I’m so glad that you had a good experience at the dentist! I LOVE getting my teeth cleaned, but I’m also a dental hygienist. I have never heard of a dr. not taking a new pregnant client. Odd… 🙂

I am obsessed with macaroni and cheese, but don’t let myself eat it hardly ever. (Like 2x a year on holidays.) Love that your recipe will probably eb a lightened up version. Cannot wait to see it.

J just went to the dentist yesterday and came home with an appointment to get a filling. I guess an old filling is falling out – it’s a good thing I was going to rake him over the coals if he had a cavity! 😉

I need to be referred for invisalign too. I’ve got an over bite and crowding issues that need to be corrected and I certainly am not going to be a 30 year old fitness instructor with a brace face. No. Thanks.

I HATE the dentist! Right before I went off to college, I had to get two fillings done. One on the top, one on the bottom. The dentist drilled both holes and ONLY FILLED ONE! I got home and told my mom something didn’t feel right. She called the dentist asking if I could come back and he said no and that it was just settling. I had to go 4 months with a whole in my tooth. When I went back to him he had the nerve to say my filling fell out. I yelled at him, put him in his place and told him I would never go back to him again. My family no longer goes to him after both my sister and I had issues with him. We could (and probably should have) sued for malpractice.

I hate the dentist – the thought of booking an appointment just makes me nervous. I’ve been putting off having my wisdom teeth pulled out for a really long time but this post has just given me the motivation to call the dentist and finally make that long over due appointment.

Its so funny that you wrote about the dentist because I just had to go for the first time since my baby was born a few days ago. I was dreading it for weeks and kept putting it off because I didn’t want to go. I was hoping some freak natural disaster would occur the morning of so that I would have an excuse to stay home, haha. Of course it was not at all as bad as I thought it would be. Its so funny how controlling fear can be!
Just did your awesome tabata video for this week, totally out of breath. Thanks Gina!

i’ve been putting the dentist off too, and mainly because of bad experiences. BUT did you know that you can get acupuncture before any type of dental work, without getting stabbed with novocaine 28times? true story. and it works 🙂 but hopefully you won’t ever need that! i should just give myself a treatment if i ever needed to get it done, yet i’m still avoiding it.. hmm…
