angry Bell

Hey! Happy Monday! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. We enjoyed an awesome dinner with cousins, went to see Minions, tested out the new BODYPUMP release, and my mom came in yesterday!

For our date night, we went to Whisknladle, which is located in La Jolla. They serve modern twists on comfort foods -it reminds me very much of what used to be The Abbey in Tucson- and the cocktails and desserts are especially fantastic. Lately when we’ve been going out, I just ask for “a mocktail” and enjoy being surprised by whatever the bartender’s mocktail specialty may be. This was a lovely blend of pineapple and pomegranate; it was slightly tart and very refreshing!

I was boring and ordered the chicken, which was anything but boring. The skin was crisp and flavorful, with savory veggies and bread pudding.

We also shared some desserts:

Sadly, I can’t remember the name of this one, but it was like an angel food cake meets a pound cake

and this chocolatey devil in a jar. Must recreate ASAP.

Some more pics from the weekend:

a trip to the chiropractor on Friday,

(I’ve been having some intense round ligament pain, and this has been a lifesaver)

followed by an acai bowl and juice date with my best girl.

We went to the Mad Beet, where they were dropping mad beats. I’m sure it was Livi’s first encounter with loud hip hop music, and she was dancing in between acai bites and coloring. So good.

Saturday was Super Saturday at our gym, and BODYPUMP 94! I didn’t teach for this launch as they rotate the instructors that teach launches, but really loved the new release; the triceps and squats tracks are my favorites. My shoulders are still a little sore from the new track, too.

Lunch at Tender Greens, followed by Minions movie night with friends (which was hilarious)

Livi and nana cece

and MY MOM IS HERE! Livi giggles so much whenever her nana is in town. She’s in heaven. We picked her up at the airport, and headed straight to Broken Yolk for brunch. After a hiatus from Mexican food, I made my way back with some breakfast tacos.

This morning I’m off to teach BODYPUMP and then we’ll see what type of adventures we get into.

Angry bell

(Liv got a new wand-controlled Palace Pet yesterday. Bell was not impressed. She studied it for a good hour before trying to pounce on it.)

See ya later today with a Summer Shape Up recap + a throwback spin playlist.

xoxo

I coach for Beachbody and am so mad that we no longer are carrying Bodypump programs! I’ve never taken a live class, but I would love to try one!

did you hear the other news, though?!

  2. Carrie (This Fit Chick) on July 13, 2015 at 7:28 am

I haven’t seen the movie yet! My boyfriend wants to too- he loves them, haha! What a delicious weekend of food!

The Minions movie looks so good! I’ve been looking forward to it for awhile. Sometimes you need a movie that’s just kind of silly and makes you laugh.

I saw the Minions! I loved it but I’m also Minion obsessed. I honestly felt it was a letdown compared to Despicable Me 1 & 2 but those are some of the cutest movies in the world to me.

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2015 at 9:42 pm

i agree, but still thought it was hilarious

  5. Cassie on July 13, 2015 at 7:50 am

Both my husband and I can’t wait to see Minions… and we don’t even have children yet! Haha.

Hi Gina! Delicious eats! I have to be totally excited about a movie to go to the theatre! I just never go. Are you teaching BODYPUMP 94 yet? I am launching BODYATTACK 89 tonight! And since I’m traveling for BlogFest this week. won’t be launching BODYPUMP 94 until I get back. It’s a good one though. 🙂

I went to a “no kids, please” wedding with my mom over the weekend, and my little guy was SO SAD that I got to spend time with Grammie and he couldn’t come. 🙁 Grandma’s are the best!

BodyPump is probably one of things I miss most about having a gym membership! Class schedules haven’t been working out with my life schedule, so I’ve been working out at home (often with your YouTube videos! Your barre videos are my favorite!).

  8. Christine T on July 13, 2015 at 8:21 am

My gym membership just ended and though I really dig Pump, not sure if I want to re-subscribe, especially with an Orangetheory opening here next month …

I raced in the Life Time Triathlon in Minneapolis this weekend and was happy to land in the top 20% of female finishers! It always feels good to complete the race and be able to ease up on the training schedule… although Ragnar is in a month. Have you ever done a Ragnar relay?

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2015 at 9:42 pm

no! some friends asked me, but i was too creeped out about running through the dark

  13. Rebecca A Meier on July 13, 2015 at 9:04 am

I wanted to see Minions so bad this weekend with my little guy (he’s a month younger than Liv). But we have some friends staying with us and were busy all weekend, so there just wasn’t time. But we promised him a movie date w/mom & dad next weekend to see it. That’s one of the super awesome things about having kids…you can take them to see ALL the kids’ movies (that you really want to see) and not look like a creep going w/o kids….although NOT that there’s anything wrong with going to an animated film w/o kids….I’d probably do that myself! LOL.

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2015 at 9:41 pm

haha i totally agree! i liked seeing kids movies way before i had kids

The photo of unimpressed Bell and the evil toy cracks me up. “Seriously Mom, what do you think this is??!”

What amazing desserts… too much goodness to handle! After watching inside out, I don’t think any other cartoon will compare, however all this talk about minions is making me want to go watch it!

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2015 at 9:41 pm

inside out was much deeper. minions is just silly and fun

No workout highlights for me this weekend! I actually relaxed and took it easy because I was still so sore from strength training on Thursday and Friday. looks like you had a great weekend. Enjoy the time with your mom! That new dog toy is too funny!

  19. Jessica C. on July 13, 2015 at 11:02 am

Ha! I love that little angry face Bell is making. She’s the cutest!

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2015 at 9:40 pm

thank you! i’m convinced she’s a person, not a dog

  20. Jen on July 13, 2015 at 12:21 pm

Minions was really cute, though I agree with the previous poster who said it wasn’t as good as Despicable Me 1 & 2.

However, an unexpected surprise to me was a trailer for an upcoming movie “The Secret Life of Pets” – have you heard about it? I almost died of cry laughing during the preview. In fact, I’d venture to say the preview was even better than the Minions movie. As a pet owner, I’ll bet you’d crack up too 🙂

    • Erika @ Barbells & Bookends on July 13, 2015 at 7:52 pm

I totally can’t wait to see The Secret Life of Pets!

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2015 at 9:40 pm

YES. the preview made it look hilarious! i can’t wait to see it

  21. Elizabeth Beil on July 13, 2015 at 12:49 pm

We are going sometime this week! Can hardly wait to see Minions! Sounds like a great weekend! I tried a new to me hill for some hill repeats. Holy calfs!

Ahh Bell is so cute! I hope to check out Minions soon…also, Inside Out.

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2015 at 9:38 pm

OMG Angry Bella- SO FUNNY! She looks seriously insulted. I have a crabby, bossy, pekapoo and know the face well.
