At-home Cardio and Weights Workout

Hi friends!

Catching up from the weekend?

My ZOOMA 10k race was Saturday, and now I’m relaxing and enjoying the sights at Canyon Ranch in Lenox (why I’m here, food pics and pics from the day).

Property 3

This morning, I’m off for a run, then getting ready to head to the airport. I’ll see ya this afternoon on the Family page, but in the meantime, here’s a 5-minute Cardio and Weights Blast:

Sweat and burn circuit1

-Warm-up for all least 3-5 minutes before starting the workout. Complete up to 3 times to get in a nice sweat sesh (even though I was sweating after filming it!)

-I give some modifications, but if you have any injuries or health considerations, please be mindful of those and modify as needed.

-As always, check with a doc before making any fitness changes.

-I got a massage right before filming this, so if I look or sound like a noodle at any point, that is why.

-Somehow skipped triceps, so feel free to add in some tricep extensions or diamond pushups.

Enjoy <3

How’d you do?

Safe travels! It looks like such a beautiful resort, I’d love to visit it sometime. If only KY wasn’t so far away…

I hope you enjoyed your time here in Massachusetts. We have had some beautiful weather the past couple of days.

    • Fitnessista on September 24, 2012 at 11:34 am

      the weather has been perfection

  3. Rachel on September 24, 2012 at 11:30 am

I’ve been thinking of adding weights back into my routine 🙂 I’ve backed off a bit for health reasons. Would you be able to do a circuit workout for those of us who are only allowed to use 2-3 pounds weights? :p

    • Fitnessista on September 24, 2012 at 11:33 am

you can use those for this exercise- any weights you like

  4. Brittany on September 24, 2012 at 11:38 am

I was so glad that the weather has been bueno. I hate when I go away for a short trip and the weather is horrible!

Oh so excited to try the cardio and weights circuit. I have found that I enjoy doing a 5-10 minutes strength or core circuit in between miles at the gym for a change up. I feel like it really ups my HR, burns a few more calories, and, oddly enough, helps me run my second half faster.
Thanks again for the workout inspiration.

How did you do anything but sleep after a massage? Also, weren’t you slicker than a greased pig? Did you feel like a male muscle model working out all lubed up? Please tell me you used the “Ah-nold” voice the rest of the day.

    • Fitnessista on September 24, 2012 at 12:35 pm

      You know I did baha

I am a weight fiend! Thanks for posting this circuit; am definitely going to try it this week. Would you consider writing out the workout breakdown in your workout posts? Just an idea! So much easier than the “play, pause, scribble, play, rewind, pause, scribble” method 😛

ALSO: I am blown away by the 10 Foods with Shocking Origins article! Whoa. Mind=blown. A lot to think about and look into….

I love your booty burner workout and quick ab videos.. they made me ridiculously sore and are perfect for my short attention span. Can’t wait to try this one, thanks for making these!

Congrats on your race! I loved reading all the recaps on your weekend adventures, and seriously hope to visit one of the beautiful Canyon Ranch resorts one day. The resort looks absolutely blissful 🙂

Love that you put plie squats in the workout!! They burn so good. 🙂 As for workout requests, I sprained my ankle about a month ago and am still having trouble with jumping/running – if you have any suggestions to keep my workouts fun and effective, I’d really appreciate it!!!

Also (unrelated to this specific post), I just wanted to thank you for blogging. I’ve been following along for a while but never really commented, but I thought you should know how motivational and inspiring you are! It’s a plus that you’re an Arizona blogger – I live up in the Phoenix suburbs. 🙂 I just started my own blog and would be so excited if you stopped by to take a look. Thank you!!

Nothing like relaxing after a 10K – much deserved too!

I have been getting significant knee pain the more weight training I’ve been doing. I’d love to see some workout modifications for people with common injuries (knees, backs, wrists, etc…)

    Another Tabata workouts!!

I love your post on Canyon Ranch Lenox! I was at CR Miami in June and just fell in love. Couldn’t swing the trip to Tucson so we did a shorter trip down the FL coast. It was wonderful. The instructors were inspiring and the food was delicious. Can’t wait to make it to the other properties.

  19. Suzanne on September 24, 2012 at 11:22 pm

This was the perfect Monday workout. I had ambitious hopes when I got home from work and wanted to do an intense cardio workout, but I felt the Monday blah’s and decided to go shorter and lighter. This workout was fun, quick, and effective. Thank you! 🙂

Canyon Ranch looks amazing. I’m on the East Coast and would love to try it for a mini-vacay.

I wish I had seen this work-out this morning! I can’t wait to try it tomorrow! Thanks for the great work-outs Gina

  21. Lindsay on September 26, 2012 at 8:35 am

I haven’t tried this workout yet, but I know I’ll love it because I love all of your workouts. Keep ’em coming! I also don’t have any workout requests, but I’ve been struggling with my body image lately (really since I had my son 7 years ago…he was big and left a lot of loose skin–think a milder version of Kate Gosselin before her tummy tuck), and wonder if you could post some tips on boosting confidence and self-esteem.

  22. Jaclyn on September 26, 2012 at 10:54 pm

    Hey Gina!
Sounds like CR was incredible, I am definitely jealous 🙂

I had the at home vid tagged to do today but it’s now private?? why?

  23. Anne on September 27, 2012 at 12:17 pm

what happened to the video? I went to try it this morning and it said private “/

    • Fitnessista on September 28, 2012 at 12:11 am

i took it down. i was feeling pretty crappy when i made it (plus the cleaners were vacuuming outside the door and kept looking in), and you can tell. sorry about that :/

      • Amy on September 28, 2012 at 8:22 am

Bummer, this was my workout plan for the day. 🙁
