Back in the spin of things

Hey! Happy almost-Friday! What are you up to this weekend?

Succulents

(Succulents runneth over. Thinking it’s time to clip and replant?)

I got to teach cycling last night and am STILL feeling the endorphins. This week I’ve taught Zumba, barre and cycling so far, and surprisingly, cycling felt the best even though I haven’t taught in at least a year. It was a fun little blast from the past; cap it off with an Indian Food Wednesday dinner and we’re right back to 2008 😉

Class was packed, the energy was fantastic, and it was a blast. It’s amazing what a killer playlist will do, along with convincing yourself that it’s just like riding a [spin] bike. You hop back into it and pick up where you left off. I’m pretty sure I haven’t been on a spin bike for an hour in a while, so the legs are definitely feeling it today.

Spin2

It looks like Zumba, cycling and barre are going to be in the usual teaching rotation until I get my BodyPump certification finished up. If you’re in San Diego and would like to take a free BodyPump class that I’ll be filming for certification, please let me know! It will probably be the weekend of July 10th.

Dinner was my uncle’s famous bolognese sauce + pasta

Bolognese 1 of 1 3

+ roasted broccoli (that was still cooking when I snapped a couple pics).

The sauce was put together during nap time,

Bolognese 1 of 1 2

so all we had to do was roast the broccoli, boil the noodles and uncork the wine.

Today I have a meeting and then am off to take Summer Shape Up pics for Week 3! Don’t forget to check in with your workout today here (<— click to enter!) for this week’s giveaway. It’s an awesome prize pack with fun gym near + a Jawbone Up.

Something to do: this stretch series. It’s perfect if you’re following the week 2 schedule and taking an off day!

Two random things about today:

-It’s NBA draft day, and I’m super nervous/excited for two of my favorite U of A players from last year: Nick Johnson and Aaron Gordon. I’m predicting Celtics and Lakers, respectively.

-Apparently it’s National Chocolate Pudding Day. Let’s celebrate!

I hear ya on those spinning endorphins Gina! Whenever I teach, they always make me feel fabulous in the hours/day that follows. Good luck with your Body Pump certification! When I did my RPM cert, I didn’t love the video part but it definitely makes you see what some of those little things are that you do unknowingly when you teach. I’m sure you’ll ace it!

i’m borderline horrified but excited to get it over with 🙂

  3. Debbie from WBL on June 26, 2014 at 8:23 am

Do you have the recipe for the sauce?

    • Fitnessista on June 26, 2014 at 10:43 am

kind of. i watched him make it, so i know how to replicate it, but have yet to measure everything. i can ask him for the exact measurements to see if i can post them!

      • Debbie from WBL on June 26, 2014 at 5:22 pm

Would love to try it out, if he’s willing to give up the recipe!

i forgot how much i missed it!

  7. Jessie on June 26, 2014 at 9:03 am

    That sauce looks amazing!

What method of barre did you train in- Pure Barre, BarreAmped, etc? There seem to be so many options.

Good luck with your Body Pump certification too!

    • Fitnessista on June 26, 2014 at 10:39 am

you have to be trained at the studio where you want to teach, since each place has their own unique method. i did barre body, so they trained me in their method, but it was a little easier since i’ve taught barre for a year and a half. when i taught barre at the resort, we were trained through a workshop.
      thank you!!

  8. Emily on June 26, 2014 at 9:17 am

Woot! I haven’t been to a spinning class in forever. It used to be a staple, and a killer playlist always makes it better.

  9. Livi @ Eat, Pray, Work It Out on June 26, 2014 at 9:46 am

I love spin!! It definitely gets those endorphins going!

So glad to hear another lady is super excited for the draft. I set it up to record on the DVR a week ago! We can’t wait to see where our favorite player from Creighton University, Doug McDermott will end up! 🙂

I’d love to take the class! Keep us posted!

  15. Alex @ Kenzie Life on June 26, 2014 at 11:07 am

The Celtics are my team and I’m really hoping we get some good picks! It’s been a rough few years losing Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, KG, and Doc Rivers. And Rondo didn’t play for a good chunk of the season so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this next year is way better!

  16. Laura @ She Eats Well on June 26, 2014 at 11:10 am

I did the Summer Shape Up workout week 1 on Monday night one final time and my legs are STILL feeling it. Oye!

  17. Julie on June 26, 2014 at 11:20 am

Is it bad that sometimes I forget to water my succulents and cacti… like in weeks? Once I killed them all because there was a terrible rainstorm.

  18. Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries on June 26, 2014 at 11:33 am

Way to rock your spin class! I love that feeling of awesome energy in a class!

I’m working on getting ready to film my BODYPUMP assessment video in the next few weeks too. I kind of hate being on camera, so it’ll be a huge relief when it’s all over! Wish I could come take your class! Do you have a gym you’re planning on teaching BP classes at yet? I know you said the SD area can be pretty competitive!

  19. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on June 26, 2014 at 12:00 pm

Happy national pudding day!! Haha I wonder if that includes tapioca? I love that stuff.

I love spinning. Its been a while since I’ve done it.

  20. Jackie on June 26, 2014 at 12:06 pm

    Love spinning!

  21. Tracy on June 26, 2014 at 12:50 pm

Wow! Your succulents! I think you’ve always had a green thumb…you just weren’t aware it was specifically for succulents 😉

  22. ilovefetacheese on June 26, 2014 at 1:41 pm

Do you still use gluten free pasta? I still can’t find a type I like…Trader joes was a bust…tasted off.

  24. Angela on June 26, 2014 at 3:12 pm

Love teaching spin! I used to take some good classes in SD. Hey- is Racho’s still in OB? That was one of my fav Mexican places!

  25. Laura B @ FitMamaLove on June 26, 2014 at 4:21 pm

I wish I could take your BodyPump class! I think I should get certified to teach a cardio class to help balance out all my Pilates teaching. That sounds like a good mix of things to teach!

  26. Lara on June 26, 2014 at 4:55 pm

I used to be a BodyPump junkie…would love to take your class in SD! Let me know the details 🙂

I know it’s draft day….but did you watch the USA World Cup Game??

  31. Kristen @ Vitamin K Girl on June 26, 2014 at 8:09 pm

Ahh I wish I could be a fitness instructor but, while I am excellent at motivating 2nd graders, I just don’t think I could have a strong command over a class of adults:)

  32. nicole on June 26, 2014 at 8:11 pm

can you post your bodypump certification video on youtube so i can pretend i’m taking a class with you but i’m really in my living room? 🙂

I freakin love spin! I hadn’t taken a class in like 10 years cause I thought I hated it. Finally tried it again this year, hooked! Biggest endorphin high. Would love to see your play list. I always find good running songs from spin playlists.
